Mirko Cro Cop: 'I'm not going to end my career soon'

ufc70crocopgonzaga.jpg
Props: Mirko-CroCop.com

Quoteworthy:

'I did think of [retirement] the night after my last defeat, but I'm not going to end my career soon. I will have 5 or 6 fights at least. Maybe even more, who can tell. Every fight could be your last one. You can suffer from a fatal injury, you can break your leg or arm. If I'll be able to fight I'll fight, it's my life and my choice and I enjoy doing it. I have a very strong motive, especially beacuse of number of 'wise' Internet users saying that I'm done. I will prove they were wrong."

UFC heavyweight fighter Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic refutes talk that he will retire after two straight disappointing losses. The Croatian boasts a losing record inside the Octagon (1-2) after a much heralded and highly publicized defection from then-rival PRIDE FC earlier this year.

Kongo Vs Jardine

Kongo Vs Jardine

Or maybe they are in different divisions.

Anyway, I would love to see CroCop come back strong. In fact, lets kill two birds with one stone, at least as far as recent articles on this site go; Put CroCop against Arlovski. I would also accept Vera or Herring.

Most of the people that are gonna reply “awesome, good luck”, are the same people that were dogging him when he lost to Gabe and Kongo….I have always been a big Mirko fan (hence DeathbyHighKick), this isn’t new….Cro Cop has much potential left, and I’m gonna be happy as hell when he comes back!!!

lets see it crocop. just be sure to wear your crocup. ha ha.it would be great if he could put a good mma game together in the octagon. he seemed so confused his last two fights.

by COR on Nov 9, 2007 8:03 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

cro cop vs arlovski seems like the obvious match up. Arlovski’s been out for a while and hasn’t looked much in his last 2 fights (He was TERRIBLE when he fought on the same card as crocop when he lost 2 gonzaga in Manchester.).. It would be a good match up for 2 fighters now struggling for confidence. It could be the wake up call these 2 need, who really wants it more??? A defeat for either would surely mean the end of any world champion asperations.. Personally i think crocop would take it.. Arlovski has lost his balls.. Come on UFC give us Arlovski vs Crocop.

by MMAmad on Nov 9, 2007 8:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Music to my ears. Cro Cop brings that old Tyson excitement … your flinching everytime he steps.. anticipating that leg raising… Arlovski would be great…or is his contract up? m-1 bound maybe?

WELL, nevermind. I should have scrolled down first. Guess the fight is possible.

He just needs to go back to the drawing board, work on his weaknesses and gain his confidence back… if he’s true championship caliber, he’ll comeback,,, sometimes I have my doubts about these guys, years go by and they don’t improve in the areas they need to the most… it amazes me… I hope Cro Cop isn’t one of those guys.

Go mirko you got full support from MMA fans in Calgary.

by egor on Nov 9, 2007 9:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I would like to see Mirko drop to 205 and fight in the light heavyweight division since he is a small heavyweight, but I doubt he would because he has always insisted that his natural weight class is heavyweight. But with the way guys are dropping weight and the fact Mirko doesn’t cut a lot of weight prefight, it would be an ideal proposition for him.

He would be among the bigger LHW’s in the UFC and certainly a force to be reckoned with. Besides who wouldn’t want to see another Cro cop vs. Silva, or the possibility of him fighting Chuck? I reckon he can be a dangerous addition in that weight class much like Brandon Vera would be at 205.

by liukangstoupee on Nov 9, 2007 9:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

i agree to some.i would definetly like to see him back.but dont put him in with Arlovski.Arlovski will just end his career.he does’nt need another highlight reel made of him(not by him).but would love to see AA vs CC.they need to throw him another Eddie Sanchez type of fighter to boost his confidence, but whatever.dude has made some killer highlights.

I say….TWO DIFFERENT WEIGHT CLASSES!

by jjdnb on Nov 9, 2007 11:06 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

regardless of how good he’s done in the past, lets not forget that he is a totally one dimensional fighter and that will not and has not worked well for him in the UFC. I think his main problem is his head. He needs to be mentally prepared to make a comeback even if he is getting beaten, not just fall asleep and let a brazilian jui-jitsu finish you with a head kick

by jjdnb on Nov 9, 2007 11:09 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I would LOVE to see Cro Cop drop to 205. He’s simply to small for the HWD. I predict a head kick KO soon out of Mr. Cop.

Cro Cop Arlovski anyone?

by Lance on Nov 10, 2007 12:17 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Cro Cop Arlovski anyone?

No way, as far as Im concerned Arlovski is in title contention, Cro Cop has lost two straight. Although the fight would be nice, the results would be devastating to one or the other’s career. I would think to give Cro Cop maybe Jeff Monson or Brandon Vera. Im not even sure if Monson fights for the UFC anymore either.

by c-war on Nov 10, 2007 1:01 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

CC needs a comeback fight that nets him a win 100%, because if he lost after making all the claims, he might just retire at that point. He’s already admitted he’s considered it.

SO, i suggest.

Cro Cop V. Brad Imes. CC win…
Gonzaga v. Cro Cop II CC Win…
Tim Sylvia or Arlovski V. CC…win.. too the champ at time.

I am most interested in the first two suggestions. I think if CC is back, truly back, he needs to address the Gonzaga loss promptly to untarnish a slighty tainted, but otherwise sterling rep.

CANT wait to see Mir-Lesnar… im not taking it totally seriously yet… but interesting none the less.
Maybe CC could meet the winner here too….HW is deep.

by rubberDUCKman on Nov 10, 2007 2:38 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

IMHO, Crocop needs to start mixing things up instead of always stalking with his left leg cocked (and his straight left punch). He seemed really predictable against Kongo. His kicks are lightning quick, but still. He needs to expand his game into more dimensions.

by Googan on Nov 10, 2007 3:11 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Cro Cop needs to divide and conquer at 205, seriously how tight will it be if CC and Anderson Silva jump in the 205 mix?

Cro Cop is too small for heavy. And Andersen should look for Hendo. But CC 205 is a NICE thought!

by KINGKONG9 on Nov 10, 2007 3:30 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Arlovski, liddel, Irons… There are a lot of guys still trying to prove there dominance after past performances and I think through him straight in there with a tough guy even lesnar and see what happens. There are so much exciting match ups. I don’t think he should blame the fans about his losses either, He still hasn’t proved himself as a force in ufc and that’s where you need to prove yourself.. If he doesn’t beat a big name soon a belt will never come, and fans will drop. Good luck to him though.

I dont want to see CC v AA any time soon – i wanna see these two guys absolutely tear the HW division apart, taking out big tim, big nog , lesnar especially and of course old man randy, the fraud fighter who thinks hes on top of the ufc jus cuz he beat a bad back timmy and a shit scared GG. CC and AA reign supreme

He came out really strong against Kongo. He looked sharp an was in control, till he broke his rib. I know I have broke a rib, it is hard enough to breath and do basic little things, let alone fighting.

I find it amazing how the internet fuels these guys fire. Thye really take it to heart. It is cray that a bunch of computer nerds can set these guys off and
push them this hard. I love it, hopefully he can leave the UFC with a winning record…

I agree that Mirko should drop to 205 lbs. However he has said that there isnt any room in his body too cut weight. That statement is bullshit. Yesterday I sat in, toked some trees and spent the day watching all my Pride events and I noticed that when Mirko fought Kevin Randleman at Shockwave, Mirko weighed in at 213 lbs. That doesnt seem like a big cutt to me….but I dunno Cro cop is stuborn as a mule and I see him comming back strong.

Cro cop vs. Arlovski that I want to see, winner gets his swagger back!

Also I watched the ryo Chonan vs. Anderson Silva fight like 3 or 4 times yesterday and man Chonan can take a shot. I know Hendo KO him but if Hendo connects with one of his wild rights he KO’s anybody. But chonan was very impressive, he actually outstruck anderson Silva for a little over 18 minutes damaging silva’s legs with ruthless leg kicks and striking very efficiently with his hands. He took a lot of big combo;s from silva that did not seem to phase him before finishing him with 1 of the greatest submissions ever performed in mma. Karo might be in for some trouble at UFC 78. Karo is a great young fighter, but he doesnt finish fights too often and chonan is one tough dude to finish. If Karo is to win it will have to be by a decision, but I wouldnt be surprised if Chonan steals the win. Chonan is a very seasoned, tough, game fighter, he doesnt get intimidated or rattled and he has all the tools to win. Karo vs. Chonan is going to a decision dont be surprised if Ryo steals the show

Crocop would have to lose 7.5 pounds per leg to drop to lhw. He just wouldn’t look the same. I would miss those huge ass legs……………and no I am not gay.

Cro Cop vs. anyone sounds sick to me… and I’d love to see Cro Cop prove the TUF boys wrong. By TUF boys I really mean the people who think the UFC is all that counts (the people who said Nogueira hasn’t earned a title shot… Anderson Silva is invincible… etc.)

…. ok buddy we all believe you… anyways i think he is a bit overrated, the ufc has stacked up the HW’s so i’d say the only way hes gonna get away with a one dimensional game is applying for a tuf veterans show like season four :) cro cop needs to learn that kicking leaves him quite vulnerable to take downs and that leads to …. getting his ass kicked on the ground LEARN JIU JITSU!!!!!!!!!!! i want to see him succeed but even dropping to 205 wouldnt make him dominant because rampage would take him down

I’m anxious to see who his next opponet will be.

Cro cop should definately mix his fight game up. He should also focus more on his true strengths and punch alot more and use his kicks more. I think in his last 3 fights he might have thrown a total of 6 or 7 kicks. Thats not enough. I also think he would be coming back to early if he wants to fight in Jan. He should look to come back in early March so he gets use to his New weight, and should NOT fight in England ever again!!! Bring it on Mirko. Bog i Hrvati!!

I would love to see Mirko improve his wrestling. If he can keep his opponent guessing he will be very difficult to beat.He has an advantage like no other with his high kicks. No other fighter has a weapon like that. Its almost a guaranteed victory if he lands it.I would like to see him fight Arlovski.

Can I please take you up on your bet, for like $1 million. Gabe beat the shit out of Cro Cop in their first fight when Cro Cop had this big scarey mistique about him. After Gonzaga knocked his head off, he was dominated by Cheick Kongo. There is NO WAY that Gabe Gonzaga would be SCARRED to fight him, that is just ridiculous!!!!!!!

Cro cop get strong ass hell. Work on your strength training this is the heavyweight division gain pounds gain muscle. work on your punches you have greate punches you just need to work them more and use them more. Use your punches to set up your kicks. when you fought Aleksander you were punching a lot same when you fought Vanderlei Silva. You punch hard! you can’t just try to win a fight with a kick all the time because everyone expects that. work on your Knees, Elbows . let your hands go! if you are trying not to get knocked out instead of concentrating on punishing your opponent chances are you will get knocked out or loose. REMEMBER THE POINT OF A FIGHT IS TO HURT YOUR OPPONENT NOT JUST TO WIN.
