Frank Mir: 'I'm Back' with Brock Lesnar fight at UFC 81

Props: FrankMir.com
Quoteworthy:
"Brock is an excellent athlete and had an unbelievable collegiate career where he simply dominated. I am looking forward to the challenge.... I will be working on my ground game, stand up, and conditioning for this fight. My opponent is an outstanding athlete so I will have to be prepared for anything and everything. It's MMA. Anything can happen and often times things happen fast so proper preparation is a must."
Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir shares his thoughts for the first time on the recently announced fight with Brock Lesnar at UFC 81 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on February 2.

I’m a loyal fan of Mir since he submitted Tank in like 20 seconds. Dude’s been through some sh&t, though. I hope he puts it down like the old Mir. A perfect jump to a title contender for him. His BJJ suits him for this particular fight, but he very well could be over muscled. Great fight, anyhow.

This would be a good fight for Mir to win. As long as he comes into the fight in great shape (pre-bike crash) form, he should do well.
Hopefully Mir takes this fight seriously.

this is a good fight for both, regardless of experience.. more importantly it’s a great fight for the fans..

The heavyweight division needs more excitement and this fight will go a long way towards reestablishing this division after the loss of Randy “Take the title home and destroy its prestige” Couture. I personally cant wait for Mir to try a triangle and get the old “multiple powerbomb into F-5” combo knockout. And NEVER forget that Brock beat Hogan clean with a bearhug. If Hulkamania cant stand the force of Lesnar, NO ONE CAN!

This looks like a lesnar win 1st round. You know lesnar will get the take down… It’s just a matter of not getting caught in a triangle or arm bar. I hope brock is carefull on the ground and takes this one out.

I have been a big and loyal fan to Frank Mir for a long time. I think this is a big challenge for Mir, because he might gas if Lesnar is on top of him, and Mir will challenege for submissions non-stop, and Lesnar might come in tip-top shape because he knows what lies ahead.
I think in all honesty, if Lesnar wins in Dominating fashion, I could see Dana giving Brock a title shot. I don’t agree with it, but since Brock is the most hyped heavyweight right now, its not that insane to think Brock could be a title shot contendee after this fight.

I think this is a great selling perspective for the ufc. If Brock wins they can gain a large influx of pro wrestling fans. If Brock looses they can advertise the real deal of true mma athletes and that nobody not even a pro wrestler can just come in here and get the job done.

Im glad they didnt give him a smaller HW , Mir is big and strong and as long as hes in good shape I think he will win by armbar or triangle.. I dont doubt brock can get it too the ground but I think once he does he will mess up and Mir will capitalize and put him away fast.
I love watching Mir fight , great bjj.

If Lesnar can get a hold of a chair right outside a cage and beat Mir with that he has a pretty good shot. If he jumps off the cage and suflexes him…he can also be real dangerous. Camel clutch, figure four..
Mir takes this one because unlike the WWF crap, the UFC does drug test. Sorry Lesner….1 fight – 1 yr suspension.

I think the only way Mir is going to pull this one out is if he decks Lesnar right in the face. He is not going to out wrestle him, he definitely not going to out muscle him, and Lesnar is going to be very prepared for Mir’s submissions, so I doubt he will get submitted. Mir’s only option now is just to beat his face in and maybe wear him down with kicks. Lesnar wins this via GnP

I know what your thinking…Arnold forgot something…something that should have been on his list of greatest things, a Kimura by Fedor.
All I have to say is Fedor v. Randleman, if Kevin Randleman had to do that over again, I bet he would have done something different.
I heard God came done and told Randleman he would have to suffer a biblical plague. God gave Randleman 2 choices…
1. Become seriously infection with a antibiotic resistant strain of a flesh eating staph bacteria infection, that will chew its way so deep into your armpit that when the pictures show up on the internet people will vomit into their mouth a little bit, but swallow it and not tell anybody because they were too embarassed to admit that they puked and then swallowed….
OR,
2. Suffer another kimura by Fedor.
Randleman chose the former.

This is all promotional work from Dana White. He sees that Brock attracts interest and is a big name but probably wont be able to live up to the hype in MMA. This is all just to guarantee a big ppv ratings which mean more money for him. Mir will win, hes too experienced and has many threats for Brock. Brocks only chance is to try and ground and pound Mir. After a few fights Brock will be forgotten in UFC. Having said that ill still order it.

Brock is a farm boy like Hughes. He’s been built since at least college: http://www.pub.umich.edu/daily/2000/feb/02-23-2000/sports/photos/brock1jpg.gif
I doubt that he was training for looks while competing in the NCAA. Unlike new pro wrestling idol John Cena, Brock is a real athlete. He almost made it to the Minny Vikings as a walk-on. The coach said he’s an NFL-calibre athlete, but he needed to learn more details about the game.
Here’s the video of Brock training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTczMKtmvdQ

I hope Mir watches himself in there and doesn’t get seriously hurt. Since the comeback he has been as cool as a cucumber, a little too cool I think, he was so calm and composed against vera he just watched the knee fly up to his head. He needs to be cautious right from the get go and try for submisions. I’m a fan of both these guys. If Mir brings intensity this could be a good fight. If he stands there like he did against vera I think it will bee 1st rnd ko. Can’t wait to see it though, there’s not that many good HW fights at the mo…

I love how everyone is posting vids of Lesnar in fake wrestling matches but nobody is posting vids of Mir in real MMA fights. Unlike WWE, that was actually a 265 lb. man’s arm getting snapped in the Tim Sylvia fight, and that was Pete Williams actually screaming in pain and tapping out from the shoulder lock Mir put on him. If anyone thinks Lesnar’s arms are “too big and strong” for Mir to submit him with an armbar you are insane. That’s 250 lbs. of Mir using all his strength of his entire upper body pulling on one joint. Not saying you can’t pull out of an armbar, but if you get rolled over, then goodnight, no matter who you are. Lesnar better be training jiu-jitsu like mad, because the only way to get comfortable with all the transitions that take place is repetition.

Bas Rutten called Lesnar “the most gifted athlete” he has ever worked with. He says Brock is coming along at breakneck pace, his work ethic is second to none and he learns extremely fast. I am not convinced he will beat Mir but I guarantee a better fight than most of you are expecting. Mir may well be past his prime. Brock could very well be the future of the HW division. my prediction is ether Mir by submission or Lesnar with the lay and pray.

Man the pressure on the guys. Brock coming in with all th hoopla, big time name, Mir doesn’t have the recognition in mainstream but well respected in mma circles, this was the future of the heavies in UFC, a big guy with BJJ when no one else has that level although Gonzaga now does and Andrei supposedly as well. For Mir, he was starting to get his roll on somewhat, but to be the first guy to be “fed” to Brock…I don’t know, I guess that’s what’s good about boxing, if you’re elite talent, and Lesnar certainly is that, you take your time to build up properly and not be fed to such an experienced guy, those who have followed Brock’s “career” know this guy is ultra confident, bordering on “cocky” and it wouldn’t surprise me that he’s wanting the “shortcut” to mma fame without fighting guys he doesn’t think are the athletes he is. A good beatdown is in order for him, this fight reminds me of Mir v Tank, tank came out raging, full on attack mode, only to get submitted in a about less than a minute. Long term: would not be surprised to see Brock hold heayweight gold.
