UFC Quick Quote: Liddell not concerned about third straight loss

chuck liddell

"That's not playing as big in my mind [a third consecutive loss] as a win would put me back in contention for a title.... I'm approaching it as a fight that I need to go out and win like all my fights. I can't wait to get out there. I try and leave the future out of everything. We could talk about it, but when I'm preparing for a fight, that's not part of me preparing for it."

-- Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell (via FightHype.com) is optimistic that he will not lose his third consecutive fight when he returns to action against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79: "Nemesis" on December 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. "The Axe Murderer" is also riding a two-fight losing streak. The stakes are high.

You better come out like you did against Babalu – a crazy Iceman not a cautious one

Chuck needs a win, but so does Wandi. The fight is 50:50. Should be good, hopefully

Ive been watching Liddell for a long time. I have never seen him so cautious since the bell rang against Rampage Jackson. Hes has been way to over cautious. Both these guys better come out flying or this could be the most anticipated belly flop of a fight in the history of fighting. To be honest i cant say who’s gonna win. Wandi got KOed by Hendo recently and Liddell by Ranpage after both of em were on a long streak. then they both lose the next fight. its do or die for both. i hope it lives up to the hype.

This will be a great fight. I like both fighters and hope both fighters don’t hold anything back. Silva hasn’t fought in the UFC in a long time, but looked great in Pride. Any UFC fan knows Chuck, but Silva is a great addition to the UFC and Chuck won’t be his only good match up. Win or lose, both fighters still have a lot of fight left in them. This may be the first fight in a series of fights for them.

the diffrence in this fight is that,, if wandi looses then .. hed starts from the middle of the ladder..but if chuck looses then he will need to start at the botom.. wandi is definetly a more expirienced fighter.. and is starting a new carreer with the ufc and just moved to vegas to start a new carrer.. chuck has been doing the same shit his hole life…and that puts more preasur on wandi to fight, train harder than ever because he needs to show that he is in america to prove a point.. but the point is .. chuck is past his peak and aint no way he is getting it back .. henderson got lucky with the spining back fist against wandi…. cro cop is a HW .. whats chucks excuse for jardin and rampage.. seriously .. by by chuck..

Chuck does not have to be concerned about a thrid straight loss, fourth straight loss heck even fifth straight loss, when you have Dana White backing you up 100% and when you are one of the most popular fighters, you dont have to worry. I mean whats the worst thing that can happen to Chuck Liddell? He stars in Nickleback’s music video Rockstar Vol II?

You gotta love Chuck’s attitude and perseverance. He truly is a fighter. He seems to care about nothing except going in there and knocking the guy out. Whether you think he’s one dimensional or over-rated….you just gotta love him. Im really not concerned at all if Chuck loses because if he does…he will just say Im dissapointed and ready for my next fight, and everyone will still come to watch him. Why? He is just a lovable fightin’ guy.

Some of the people on this site kill me. “If Chuck or Wandy lose they are finished.” What a crock. Has it ever occured to you that now that the best fighters are in the same organization that every fighter at the top is going to start losing some fights. If you think that the loser of this fight can’t beat 99% of the other guys in their weight division you are nuts. I would say that the loser of this fight should probably get ranked at 5th, at least. That’s not to say that the loser could not beat the champion in his next fight. Both of these guys are tough as nails.

I’m going to have to go with Wanderlei on this one. Chuck looked horrible against Jardine.

Someone told me that supposedly Dana White sat down beside Wanderlei during the second round of the Jardine fight and goes “I think Chuck is going to lose” to which Silva goes “What are you talking about Chuck is killing him”. Silva must have been pretty deluded.

I do think that the above story sounds a little dubious but it is funny.

Very well put, KO King, I have to go with Chuck on this one. He definitly has the range to pick Silva apart. The height will help him, plus I can certainly see Wanderlei getting frustrated mid way in the 2nd round, coming at Chuck a little too aggressively, and he’ll wind up sleeping soundly.

chuck is going to punch silva’s face into the crowd. where it will land in the lap of a horrified shogun. who will then cry himself to sleep on his pride pillowcase.

henderson got lucky with the spining back fist against wandi….

In no way did that win Henderson the fight. There was zero luck involved in that fight. You can blame it on Wandi being sick with Strept throat days leading up to the fight, but luck? C’mon now.

by ViolentMike on Oct 30, 2007 3:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Silva’s style is tailor made for Liddell. Liddell will win this fight. Jardine and Rampage were tentative and it frustrated Liddell and he lost those two fights, since Liddell didn’t stick to his game plan. Liddell will for sure stick to his game plan this time around and win this fight by knockout.

I just want to see it… enough of the yapping!

Any fan of both fighters will know that there is no way you can predict the outcome of this fight except to say, I doubt we’ll see one takedown attempt and bombs will be flying.

I just hope both fighters are in shape and don’t gas out early! In my opinion thats the “potentially” worst thing about this fight being 4-5 yrs overdue.

My “guess” ….Wandi by demolition

I cannot guess at a winner here, although I would like to see the following>>>
If Chuck loses:
Feed him to Shogun
Let him duke it out with Alexander
Or watch him poop his pants against that kid Griffin

If Wandi loses:
Feed him to Shogun
Let him duke it out with Alexander
Or watch him make that kid Griffin poop his pants

I’m shocked that you would think that Wandi would fight Shogun, I’m sure 98% of the people on here know their past history and the countlesss times they have said they wouldn’t fight eachother.

However, i do agree with you on the houston fight…that would be nuts…

Difficult fight to call this looks like a toss up. Chuck had to be cautious against Rampage and Jardine, those guys are pure strikers with knockout power, and on the night they were the better fighters. Tito, Randy, Babalu, Horn are not strikers so Chuck could afford to take more risks and be more aggressive because he knew without doubt that the superior striking was with him. Chuck and Silva both have the ability to knock each other out, so it will be a case of who has the toughest chin on the night. Wandi is one of the most aggresive fighters out there and can some times be a bit reckless which is ideal for Chuck who waits for an oppening to counter punch. I am going for Wandi in this one though, because I think he might have the slightly tougher chin and he seems to display more of a variety of skills when he fights than Chuck does. Before Jardine and Rampage Chuck had not fought many serious strikers in a while and he could get away with waiting for that one punch, and has not really needed to use much of his other skills, but I think because he has not had to use his other skills in a long time is what will work against him. Chuck has lost to the last two strikers he has fought and I think Wandi will be the third. Either way we all know this is not going the distance, one of these two is going to get knocked out. It could all be over in the first round. I’m looking forward to it.

Big news. Dan Henderson announced possibly fighting on the UFC 79 card @ 185. I tried to post the link and source but keep getting blocked

FFL: This news is a fabrication.

1st off, Dan Henderson is a BIG name fighter. He is a HUGE asset to the UFC because he can headline any pay per view card at either 185 lbs or 205 lbs. This is Henderson’s last fight on his current UFC contract. With that said, I believe that the UFC will put him up against another Big name opponent.

He WILL NOT be fighting at 185 lbs in december because there aren’t any big name opponents at 185 lbs that would be ready to fight in December. Franklin and Silva just fought, as did Okami and Mcdonald. That leaves only one possible opponent for him to face in that division, Nate marquardt. In my oppinion, I do not think Marquardt has a big enough NAME to entice Hendo into fighting him.

Also UFC 79 NEMESIS is already a stacked card, with Serra vs. hughes for the title and Wandy vs. Liddell. No way in the world that cheap ass Dana white includes Hendo on that card. He will never give us 3 main event worthy matches on the same card. It would be nice, but it would be bad business on the UFC’s part, and I can respect that.

Fighters that could be ready to fight in January or Febuary against Hendo are:

Shogun(if his knee heals by then)

Tito (Hendo doesn’t want to fight Tito because tito isn’t on his level and a win against Tito does nothing to get Hendo back in title contention.. I agree with that)

Machida (Personally, I hate Machida and I wouldnt rank him anywhere near the top 10, but the guy has millions of fans on his nutts because of his performances in other fights outside of the UFC…so his Name might be big enough to challenge Hendo)

Forrest Griffin (His heart alone gives him a chance against anyone)

Jardine (comming off a big win against the Iceman, a win against Hendo will have Jardine very close to a title shot)

or a fighter people always forget is part of the UFC roster Arona

by john on Oct 31, 2007 10:10 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ViolentMike: Excellent post. I agree strongly with everthing that you said.

If chuck wins, I suspect Shogun will want to avenge wandy’s loss. A fight against Shogun (who is also comming off of a loss makes sense)

If wandy wins, it has been made public that wandy wants to avenge Shogun’s loss to griffin… so wandy vs. Griffin would make sense. Winner gets Rampage

There are many fights left for both wandy and Liddell win or loose. Both Liddell and Silva would be interesting to watch against:

Houston Alexander (if he continues to win)

Dan Henderson (Wandy and Hendo each hold a win against each other, a 3rd fight is inevitable, and Hendo would have fought Liddell if Chuck would have beaten Rampage)

Arona (a 3rd fight between Arona and wandy would be interesting because they each hold a win over the other, and its always great to see Chuck fight against top caliber wrestlers like Arona)

Forrest Griffin

Winner of Rashad vs. Bisping (eventhough in my oppinion the winner will be seriously outclassed against wandy or Liddell)

Machida because i wouldnt mind seeing Liddell or Wandy knock his freakin head off of his neck

One of Wandi’s last two losses was against Cro Cop (A heavyweight) Wandi is still on his game. Watch out Lidell….. youre retirement is right around the corner.

I think this is the perfect fight for the iceman, he got caught against rampage, although im not saying he would have won! He would certainly have gave a better account of himself. Jardine was a crap fight for liddell and in my personal opinion it was a lose lose fight for liddell, and he wasnt up for the fight!! I think he will beat wandi, get a rematch with jardine and pulvarise him before a rematch with rampage!! Cant wait tho, great fight! And i wish all of you who want liddell to retire will eat your words, simply because the division is stronger than ever and liddell is one of the reasons for that. Cmon liddell!!!!!

CHUCK VS WANDERLEI

BEATDOWN

Since this fight will basically all be standing, I will rank their kick boxing skills

Punching Power: Chuck Liddell (Can knock out people moving backwards)

Kicks: Wanderlei seems to use em alot more, but Chuck does have decent power on his feet.

Thai clinch/knees: WANDY!!! WANDY!!!! WANDY!!!

Boxing: Chuck has good counters but blocks punches with his face alot. Wanderlei avoids punches well

Aggression: Wandy, definetly.

Stamina: Wandy

Overall: Mr Silva will be taking this one by 3rd round TKO
