UFC Quick Quote: Andrei Arlovski is still waiting

andreiarlovs_dec20.jpg

"[Andrei Arlovski] has not been forgotten. We want him back in the mix ... he's kind of just sitting on the sidelines right now."

-- UFC President Dana White comments on the status of former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski during a recent teleconference. "The Pitbull" has not fought since April 2007 -- a "boring" (according to White) unanimous decision win. Arlovski has one fight left on his contract and White is eager to ink an extension with the Belarussian if the two parties can come to terms.

AA would be a great next fight for Brandon Vera. They are both trying to rebuild, and they are both great strikers. It would def be a more exciting fight then horrible Tim Sylvia. I really think this empty slot in the HW division can be filled once again by AA, if he really wants it.

LOL, Dana said his last fight was boring? They had him in there against Werdun, what did they expect. AA has the potential to put on a really good fight, it’s just up to the match makers to line it up, kind of like they tried to do with Cheik vs Filipovic.

I well wanna see GG or HH V Arlovski – all need to raise their rep. After the one fight Arlovski you should leave the UFC if they dont give you exactly what you ask for – dont let them get their leg over!

by Insain on Oct 26, 2007 1:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I Don’t think it would be smart for him to fight Vera he doesn’t really gain anything from it. He is coming off two wins one by knockout the other by borefest but still a win. Now that there is no Fedor and there is a chance they could lose andrei in three month(his contract expires) they want to utilize him in a hw division thats getting weaker by the fight. Cro cop flopped nog wasn’t impressive(but will be better I am sure) nobody likes timmy and randy retired. That leaves Vera who hasn’t beaten any top talent kongo who is a big question mark and the others who are just above average. Arlovski is still a huge draw with credentials they need him know more then every in that division. If they have him lose to say Vera or anyone percieved to be below his talent level it takes away from the whole divisions depth. If he loses to Big Nog who cares everyonr does except for fedor.

Dana needs to sign him before he leaves and signs with someone else. I would like to see all the top fighters stay in the UFC, but some are jumping because of their contracts.

Oracle seems to be broken. AA is as talented a fighter has the HW has in it; up until the last fight with Tim, EVERY fight was exciting and explosive. He has good hands, standup, and even ground skills, if it ends up there. To judge a fighter on just the past few fights is narrow sighted. First look at the boring fights. First, anyone who fights Tim has a boring fight, and the two fights after that have been against jujitsu and submittion experts. He did what it took to win the fight, attempted to engage stand up, Werdum wouldn’t have any of it. Everyone, myself included, wants a knockout, stoppage, or submission; but matchups make fights and the style conflicts made the fights boring. Abottom line is that He has beaten quality, skilled opponents. Seems as though we have a either a new fan or someone short on MMA knowledge.

On a side note, talking in the third person is usually reserved for idiot celebrities, athletes and conceded d-bags.

It seems like AA will definitely be benefitting from Randy’s recent departure. All of the sudden the heavyweight devision goes from being stacked to being in trouble. AA has more leverage now that ever in negotiating a new contract.

Arlovski should fight Gonzaga, Cro Cop, or Vera, and Kongo should get one of the two Arlovski doesn’t fight. If I were to pick I’d make it Arlovski vs. Cro Cop, Gonzaga vs. Kongo, and Vera could fight someone like Heath Herring. I’m not sure where Frank Mir fits, I don’t think he’s that close to a title shot.

i want to see arlovski fight kongo and the winner get the first shot at the new champ(sylvia or nog, probably nog)…the ufc needs to hurry up and get this new deal done with arlovski already, every time there is new news about him its always, “we’re trying to work out a deal with him, he has one fight left on his old deal, blah blah blah” quit saying it and do it already we’re all ready to see him fight again

Dont mean to be a UFC hater but I hope AA goes to M-1. I actually hope alot of fighters from UFC and other organizations start going to M-1 so there can be some competition for the UFC. I’m really getting tired of watching Dana White bully fighters around.
Its funny that he called Randy “Hollywood” when its always Dana that is trying to be in the spot light and talking trash about other organizaions, other fighter, his own fighter, managers, and even INTERNET FORUMS!
Screw Dana White!

yes good point,i dont know why more people here didnt really get rid off about AA’s last fight, yes he didnt knock werdum out,but he fight nicely, you will see it if you understand MMA well,& not just a fan looking for an exciting fight (koncout, submission) but how you will going to do that in a dangerous guy like werdum? maybe AA can make that fight with a bang, but what if he made a big mistake & werdum caught him w/ a submission??? AA ry try to make that fight excitingly but with less risk,so thats how it goes

thing about it folks, fight excitingly but a big risk,or fight intelligently w/a win…

Liddell is making tons of money and he hasn’t done squat in his last two fights. I don’t know about you guys, but I almost fell asleep during the Liddell and Jardine bout. The AA vs. Werdum wasn’t all that exciting, but AA apologized right away. Get him in the ring! Dana, how much freaking money do you need? I hope you make some smart choices….soon!!!!!

Let’s be honest. Three fights with Sylvia would turn anybody into a boring fighter! He still has it. But he sure isn’t going to prove it sitting on the sidelines. Gonzaga would be a great start. Even Cro Cop would be good. He would have a legitimate shot at beating both and GG and CC would not let the fight get boring. Arlovsky would have to bring it!!

Ridiculous!!! Sherk is anything but a boring fighter…as is Huerta…

AA should be fighting Nog, Vera, or even Gonzaga. Those would be exciting fights. I can’t say I see Kongo at their level yet, he’s far too one dimensional. Kongo beat CC (remember the low blows), but that was more about CC’s decline than Kongos greatness.

Sorry folks, but it’s only a matter of time before Sylvia wins the HW belt back. He’s too much for the current crop of heavyweights. That is until Lesnar gets some scraps under his belt. Anyone who thinks Lesnar won’t be champ needs their head examined. He’s an absolute maniac…

Dudes, Christmas came early last year for Sylvia when he caught Arlovski. The next fight, I honestly thought the decision was up in the air. Sylvia does not stand a chance against the pride fighters, Nog & CC, and I see AA matching them pretty well. CC would chop Sylvia’s bird legs down. Even Wandi said that Cro Cop has a lot going on right now, serving in the Croation Parliament, which is up in November this year, and I think Wandi would know cuz Cro Cop looked like a machine against Wandi in the 06 Grand Prix fight. I want AA fighting…PERIOD. Sylvia’s days are numbered. I wish DW wouldn’t be such a dick to the fighters when they lose or don’t match up well in a fight. DW should be kissing AA and Couture asses right now. What do all of Tim Sylvia’s fights have in common? They’re all freakin boring, except for when Couture kicked his ass. AA and Huerta sure as all aren’t boring…I don’t know which UFC you’re watching. All of Tim Sylvia’s fight = BORING…even when AA is in the ring.

Yeah Lesnar could be champion no doubt but thats pretty much just wishful thinking right now. He has ONE MMA fight thus far a win over some plug who knows what will happen in the octagon. Pretty tough to be predicting champions before he has even stepped into the UFC I don’t care how knowledgable you think you are or what Lesnar has done in the past in wrestling but you can KTFO at any time GSP vs. Serra, Cro Cop vs. Gonzaga, And the list of upsets goes on. Anyone who thinks they can predict outcomes like that might want to plan an appointment to get their head checked as well.

I think Lesnar can almost whatever the hell he wants physically, if he could just figure what it is he really wants to do. Lesnar could’ve been an Olympian if he wanted to (he went into pro wrestling right after college). Or if had dedicated himself to football, he would’ve probably had a respectable NFL career. mate, if lesnar ever becomes champ, the world of mma should have the piss taken out of it – think about it, you think lesnar could be whatever he wants to be, an olympian, NFL star or whatever, but to be a champ in MMA you have to be focused in all the game aspects, not just wrestling – Anderson Silva would absolutely kill Lesnar – even Sherk would mangle him. Lesnar will never hold an MMA belt!..

Okay, Sherk would get run over by Lesnar. Sherk is a great LW, but how exactly is he gonna beat a monster like Lesnar? Sherk’s not a natural striker. His game is wrestling, and Lesnar would ruin him in that aspect. Yes, Anderson Silva would tee off on Brock Lesnar right now. Big deal, a guy with 1 MMA fight can’t beat the best striker in the game. Lesnar is raw and full of potential. Do you think after his first MMA fight, Anderson Silva could’ve won the UFC belt?

Brock is huge, but he doesn’t train like a bodybuilder. He trains for strength, explosiveness, and muscle endurance. Also, he’s very fast and agile, as well as having great balance. Some Tim Sylvia fans give the excuse that he can’t possibly be mobile at that size, well guess what, Brock is.

Brock is quick for his size, but not as fast as AA for example is for his in my opinion. Whatever the case, I don’t see him as being worth half the hype he has gotten, until we see some results in the cage.

Oh and about his training, this is MMA buddy, what’d you expect? That kind of training is at least a standard, you act like this is unique to Brock, as if EVERY other mma fighter out there doesnt train for endurance and strength and explosiveness.

Arlovski vs. Brock. If AA wins he will be even more famous and prove he is one of the best in the world, after his carrer was tainted from the silvia trilogy. If Brock wins he will cement himself as a giant threat and force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. This would be a great match and would also answer all questions about how brock will fare against strikers… I would pay generously to see that match up and hope it happens in 2008. You guys agree???

If AA fights Lesnar and wins it would not prove he is one of the best at all – Lesnar isnt even a proven solid MMA fighter – big waste of Arlovskis time

That would be an awsome fight, I think CroCop would welcome that fight as well His last two losses were to very large heavywieghts. Fighting AA cro cop wil be the physically larger and stronger fighter

Crocop sits at 230 and cuts to 220 or so for fights. Arlovski sits at 245 and drops to 230 or so for fights. Arlovski is bigger than Crocop. Don’t let those huge thighs fool you the man is not that big.

Why is everybody so big on brock? The ONLY thing you can go off of is looks? Cuz he is big and looks buff? Damn doesnt take much to impress you guys.
Even if you look at his resume, he is a very accomplished wrestler, ok, so is KOS, he is not all that succesful relative to champions, what makes you think Brock will be any different?
I mean i’m not saying he wont be, but it seems like everyone is going off nothing but physical appearance, ridiculous.

Whatever the case, I don’t see him as being worth half the hype he has gotten, until we see some results in the cage.

i too believe in brock(live in MN :) but i have to disagree with pat how can tim sylvia’s fans say he is slow because of his size when he doesn’t have any fans???? rethink that before you post again :)

Uhhhh… Sylvia is 6’8. Lesnar is 6’2… not an equal comparison by ANY means. Sylvia’s long, awkward body type is why people say you can’t be mobile at that size.
