Jardine rocked him, everyone forgets that. Plus he has no cardio. He’s gonna get rocked and if this goes past the first round he’s done. But he does hit pretty hard, so I guess he still has a chance.

Houston is a gentleman outside the octagon and a machine in the octagon!!!! Can’t wait to see him fight in Nov……the only reason why I’m thinking about buying this card!!!!!

Are you kidding me Alexander’s a monster. How do you know he has no cardio if he has never been past the first round in the ufc. Plus he was able to recover from the punch, against jardine

by matt on Oct 23, 2007 9:32 AM EDT reply actions

you have to be in great shape to get rocked like that and rebound like he did. why do you think he has no cardio? just because he starts fast and finished people quickly doesn’t mean he doesn’t have stamina. he sure looks like he is in shape. He may have more “amateur” fights than any fighter in the ufc, and I’m sure he’s been the distance many times. my biggest problem with him is he is too classy and doesn’t talk enough shit. that guy interviewing him was trying every way to get him going but houston kept shutting it down.

He can barely speak in his post fight interviews! “Go…Ne…bras….ka.” Yeah he recovered and ended up winning, but I still think he has holes in his game that people don’t recognize because he hits so fast and so hard. Just my opinion, I’d like to see him get tested past the first round.

No cardio? LMFAO!!!! If you only knew what Mick Doyle put Houston thru everyday!!!!! Trust me Houston is in the best shape of his life right now…..cant wait for his fight in November!!!! NEBRASKA IN THE HOUSE!!!!

I wanted Houston to fight a top.10’ LHW, but this should still be a good fight.

agreed – he can only deal with what is put in front of him and he pretty much blew away Jardine and Sakara, classy out of the cage and was great with the fans at the O2 arena…
Win or loose you know this guys going to bring it, looking forward to the Silva fight.

I love watching him fight, Tank Abbott mentality of knocking someone out. Makes fights exciting, even if he loses.

Have you heard of adrenaline? Tell me you wouldn’t be a little excited after beating someones ass in one minute.

Gonna be a shame to watch ex-champion Hughes completely destroyed in the first round. HA is a monster that sure looks like he’s gonna destroy everyone in his path.

Too bad we didn’t get to see him in his 20s…

by Mattski on Oct 23, 2007 10:40 AM EDT reply actions

He won a decision at Downtown Destruction 1 against Demian Decorah after 5 3 minute rounds. The guy does have cardio. Going 5 rounds against anyone in a Pro/ametuer MMA bout proves that. Even if Damian was tomato can, HA was still working for 5 consecutive rounds.

Can’t wait for this fight, always look forward to a HA fight. Chuck him against a top 10 if he wins this, a fight against Forrest Griffin or Wanderlei would be insane.

by JayBoyo on Oct 23, 2007 11:03 AM EDT reply actions

I gotta agree.

Im not saying he has bad cardio but dudes right’ he does sound exhausted after his 1 min bouts.
I would like to see him tested agiansted a top10 LHW.
..none the less Houston puts on a good show, and i am looking forward to this fight.

Like someone else said….ummm have you ever heard of adrenaline?

by mmafan13 on Oct 23, 2007 11:13 AM EDT reply actions

NO CARDIO??? Are you on glue? maybe do some homework, find out how “no cardio” he puts into training, it’s completely sick! oh, and if you don’t have the time, take a look at him, tell me he doesn’t train for many rounds, he’s got like no body fat, he’s definantly prepared to go the distance.

by GodDamnMike on Oct 23, 2007 11:14 AM EDT reply actions

I don’t understand why people don’t want Houston to succeed. He’s been nothing short of amazing in his two fights. If those 2 KO’s had been Shogun’s debut in the UFC, everybody would be talking about how amazing he is and how he’s the greatest fighter ever.

I get the fact that we haven’t seen Houston’s ground game/endurance/perseverence vs adversity, but that doesn’t mean he’ll fail in all those catagories when tested. We just haven’t seen it. I’ll reserve judgement for when they are on display. I believe he’s proven that his striking and clinch work are dangerous enough that he only has to be passable on the ground (a la chuck) to be a contender.

Hope this guy does well for himself – at 35 and 6 kids his life seems pretty hard – he doesnt have long, i think he will only ever see 2 title shots in his career – but i cant see him ever being top of the chain for some reason unknown

by Insain on Oct 23, 2007 11:34 AM EDT reply actions

Were looking at a future LHW champ right here. I wish he would stop trying to represent Nebraska though, is that even possible?

by Yoububg on Oct 23, 2007 11:34 AM EDT reply actions

Exactly how the fcuk do you know all the garbage you just wrote?

by Lycan on Oct 23, 2007 11:36 AM EDT reply actions

I wouldn’t exactly say that Houston was rocked in his first fight. It was a glancing blow and he tripped trying to get out of the way, as he said in the interview after the fight.

Houstons on monster, wouldn’t say he’s ever going to be champ, then again anythings possible. He’s a very exciting fighter and the Ufc needs to get him fighting some top 10’s so we can really see his skill level.

Houston wins his next fight by KO 1st round!!!

by ppwwpp on Oct 23, 2007 12:25 PM EDT reply actions

Houston vs Thiago is a better Main Event fight then Bisping vs Evans.

Couldn’t agree with you more Phil I think they both prooved in both of their last fights that they are both boring fighters. For the record I hope that Bisping gets knocked out so the judges don’t have another chance to give him another bull shit descision!

by jimmy_dean on Oct 23, 2007 1:08 PM EDT reply actions

its hard not to be impressed with alexander, the dude is a monster, but i love thiago silva, i have to go with silva in this fight…both guys like to end fights obviously, but i think silva will fight a little more cautiously in this one, we’ve never seen houston past like the first 2 minutes and we’ve never seen him on the ground, i think silva is going to try to use the first round or two to expose those things and then look for a late stoppage in the third…

by tha spida on Oct 23, 2007 1:17 PM EDT reply actions

First of all, I’m surprised nobody’s said anything regarding the embarrassing comments that the interviewer here made. “Chillin’, chillin.” “That’s wassup.” Ugh. What a jerk.

Anyway, I like Houston. To suggest that he has no cardio is stupid. I could go in there, with no cardio training whatsoever, and fight for 30 seconds without tiring out. He’s pumped up: that’s all.

With that being said, I’m going for Thiago here.

by Ben! on Oct 23, 2007 1:44 PM EDT reply actions

I call HA winning by KO in the 1st round…If I was a fighter, my style would be exactly like Houston’s….go balls to the wall and dont let up until your oponent is KO’d. Saying he doesnt have cardio is just ridiculous….who knows about his ground game but to be honest I dont give a shit if he has one or not, I’d rather see him KO people and if he never goes to the ground guess what? I DONT CARE!

by Chadx23 on Oct 23, 2007 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

I agree….this is a better fight than the main event. I love Houston Alexander’s killer style. We need that back in the UFC!

So what does it mean that Jardine “rocked” him? That makes it even worse for Jardine cuz he gave Houston his best shot and the guy came right back at him and destroyed him. So all that tells me is that Houston can take a shot just as good as he can dish it back out and Jardine cant.
Jardine is a good fighter and a good guy but dont try to discredit a solid win for Houston

Yeah I agree, he sounded SO winded it’s not even funny. But his chin was tested when Jardine “rocked” him, and he handled that pretty much no problem. He is a force either way. I to want to see him tested and past the first round. BUt I don’t think that will happen until they give him a big name guy. Having said that, give him somebody LEGIT already!!!

by The Anomaly on Oct 23, 2007 2:45 PM EDT reply actions

Thiago is legit. And don’t say “give him somebody legit already,” as if the guy has been on this streak for a year. He beat two guys.

by Ben! on Oct 23, 2007 2:59 PM EDT reply actions

Some people will just always be haters. If somebody hates a fighter, when that fighter is put up against a contender, they’ll say “He doesn’t deserve that opportunity, who has he beat?”. And if that fighter is put up against a non-contender, the haters will say “He’s fighting another can”. Whatever, haters keep hatin’.

by Pat on Oct 23, 2007 4:16 PM EDT reply actions

Love how he gets that suck-up interviewer to shut up. You could sense that Alexander doesn’t want to get pulled into trash talking. Interviewer begins with the retarded, “Well, since you PWND Keith Jardine,” but Alexander respectfully backs away from such talk. Side note: I would love for that interviewer to quit reporting and stick to Internet message boards and putting the beat down on young kids on Halo 3. PWND.

he knocked out Skara in what 1 minute then like 5 minutes passed by and he was being interviewed and he was breathing really really hard never was it in a crazy fast pace nor did he recieve any damage, I agree he hits hard but, so does Chuck and If Houston doesnt connect he will loose because he has no cardio if he fixes that and fights for a 3 round war then he will have my respect other than that I think he is just a hard hitter

dude I train myself in MMA and I can hit the bag for like 3o minutes with combos for a fast pace with some flurries and shit and ive sparred hard with some pro mma fighters with like 3 or 4 fights on their belts but still pros and i went 2 5 minute rounds and was kinda tired but after like a minute my breathing is back to normal now I understand that the exitement and the pressure and adrenaline all combined make you breathe harder but damn look at Forrest look at other light heavies and even after a hard 3 round war dont breathe that hard, I think alexander could be a force if he ups his cardio, if not the first guy that can move well in the ring will rope a dope him and beat him

ITS CALLED BEING NERVOUS ON CAMERA… like you said one minute he just knocked some guy out and the next he’s being interviewed by joe rogan on camera live in front of thousands in the arena and millions on payperview.. It Was He Second fight in the ufc.

by Sour Diesel on Oct 23, 2007 5:59 PM EDT reply actions

We really don’t know what Houston’s cardio is like, only a long fight will tell the story, some athletes have a hard time developing cardio and some are more natural than others…

However, Houston just moved up on my list of likeablity’ he spoke highly of the other fighters, seems like a good guy.

by Thorazine on Oct 23, 2007 6:29 PM EDT reply actions

Houston will ko Thiago in mere seconds….Thiago got rocked by James Irvin and Houston hits even harder!!

by jae_1833 on Oct 23, 2007 6:57 PM EDT reply actions

If Alexander knocks this guy out. He wiil go for a title shot after this.A fight between him and Warderley woul be very exiting. They both have the same style. Dont tell me Wandy is ko him because in this sport no one knows what will happen.

by Ysa on Oct 23, 2007 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

He handled himself well in this interview.
From what I’ve seen from his fights in the UFC, his technique doesn’t look very crisp/polished, but boy does he hit hard. But with all that muscle, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him gas in the later rounds. Either way, I’m looking foward to seeing how his career develops in the UFC.

by Googan on Oct 23, 2007 9:41 PM EDT reply actions

Ya’ll are getting way too upset. Just because I said I’d like to see him get tested, or that he got rocked, is not me trying to discredit a win. I know he’s a good fighter, I know he’s exciting to watch, I would just like to see him get tested past the first round. I’m not a hater, I’m a realist. If he’s going to do well in his division, he needs to be prepared to go the distance.
