UFC 80: Sam Stout vs. Terry Etim

ufc 80 sam stout vs terry etim

Update: Stout is now booked to fight Swedish mixed martial artist Per Eklund. For more details click here.ÂÂ

FightNetwork.com has confirmed with Sam Stout (12-3-1) that the lightweight will return to the Octagon to face Terry Etim (10-1) at UFC 80 at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England .

The event is penciled in to take place on either January 19 or 16.
Stout has back-to-back UFC losses against Spencer Fisher (unanimous decision) and Kenny Florian (submission). His rematch with Fisher at UFC Fight Night 10 back in June, however, has to be among the candidates for top fight of 2007.

Here's a snip from "Hands of Stone:"

"Right after my last match with Spencer, Dana told me that if they ever have a problem finding an opponent for me, they've always got Stout-Fisher III in their back pocket."

Stout has been busy outside of the UFC, rattling of three wins under the TKO banner as its lightweight champion since his loss to Florian.

Etim -- a native of Britain -- will look to get back in the win column after dropping a unanimous decision to Gleison Tibau at UFC 75 "Champion vs. Champion" in London last month. He also holds one win inside the Octagon, submitting Matt Grice via submission at UFC 70 "Nations Collide" last April.

either etim wins that fight by submission or stout wins by (T)KO, either way i don’t see it going to a decision…

This is great, I am a big Sam Stout fan and I think he has alot of potential to be good, he just needs to work his way up. Sam Stout is an awesome fighter to watch, and Terry Etim is no joke either. This fight should be a great way to start off 2008, along with Jess Lauidin vs. Marcus Davis.

i love sam stout, the guy is such a good striker (rogan and goldberg were soo bias during stout-fisher II) and his ground game is ever improving, also team tompkins which was out of london ontario moved to extreme couture so i see him being a huge force in the lightweight division in a year or so

Wait – I thought Terry Etim was just what Sam Stout calls himself when he shaves his head. They aren’t the same fighter?? :)

“Fisher has been busy outside of the UFC, rattling of three wins under the TKO banner as its lightweight champion since his loss to Florian.”

Should say: “Stout has been busy outside of the UFC…”

i was just talking to sam in a bar in london the other night. i was askin’ him who he was fighting.. he says.. umm i dunno, one of those english guys, can’t remember which one. lol pretty laid back, i think he’s starting to feel a place coming into being a ufc veteran, almost. good luck to him, he’s training with some really good guys right now like tyson griffin etc. he should do well

Etim definitely has the reach advantage, but Stout can take a punch (understatement) and has a lot of power. Should be intense.

Etim will look to take this fight to the ground, no doubt.

I like this fight, a good fight I hope it’s a main card fight.
I’m a fan of both fighters for sure.
But I’m going for stout on this one, I like him more, I know him better and he’s from about 2 hours from where I live same area code.
STOUT

rumored under card bout, Marcus Davis vs Jess Liaudin? WHO? Davis should be fighting a guy in the top 10. He’s great and needs to be tested. I dunno who Liaudin is, but at 12-8 sounds pretty scrubby.

Stout is a great fighter he and spencer fisher are tailor made for each other their 2 fights are freakin awesome but Fisher is slightly better than Stout although Stout is young and can be a better striker in the future my advice when fisher retires he should be Stouts training partner damn Stout would be a monster

UFCMania,
I believe you mean either January 19 or 26 (it currently says 19 or 16)

Davis should be the gatekeeper for the WW top 10. If a guy is rolling and wants to take on someone like Kos, Karo, Diego, or Fitch they should have to go through Davis first.

The only thing anyone can say about Liaudin is that he is European so the UFC hopes he can drive some support for the event overseas. And he hasn’t lost in two years(at least until he goes against Davis).

liaudin is 2-0 in the ufc but davis is on a tear winning his last 5 and in impressive fashion.
I agree Davis should be fighting someone well known and established by now.
Maybe the ufc must be waiting for the welter weight division to weed out a few guys first before they push davis.
Meaning with Hughes possibly retiring soon/sanchez rumored to drop down and if st pierre wins the tile who know what matt serra might do.

Stout has evolved as a fighter and I can see him winning this fight. He’s a few tools short of becoming a great fighter

Glad to see Stout back in UFC, both his fights with Fisher have been great.

Also another thing since UFC 79 will be on December 29th and UFC 81 will be on February 2nd that leaves too little time inbetween for UFC 80 to also be a PPV. My guess is that this event airs on SpikeTV.

i say spike tv also,
good fight i like sam, glad to see him back but i don’t think this will be a main card fight

I hope this fight does happen too.
I think it would be a good one. I think Stout would win aswell, but anything can happen.

..btw, A little biased Jesse?(liking stout better)i wonder why? I myself am from Ontario, and I like Stout better too.

I like Sam Stout, especially as a fellow Canadian. Although I think he lacks the aggression to finish a fight. Not sure where he got the “hands of stone” from, I’ve yet to see him KO anyone. I’ll be cheering for him nonetheless.
Davis? Awesome. Love watching him fight. He’s come a looooong way from TUF. I don’t think he’s ready for Kos or Parisyan yet, but just wait. He’ll be a force pretty soon. He’d better get a move on though, he’s already 34 yrs old.

He fights alot in TKO and has a bunch of knockouts there.

Terry Etim is a walking skeleton. He’s 6"1 and he makes 155! Still nothing on Corey Hill though. Imagine having Sherk and Hill staring each other down, that would be funny. Quick question, how tall is Nate Diaz anyone?
