UFC 78: Official site up ... almost

Props: 78.UFC.com
Check out the site above often for more content. Several folks huff n' puff that this fight card is weak. Perhaps an argument can be made for the main event; however, there are numerous competitive bouts booked for the November 17 pay-per-view (PPV) event from Newark, N.J., at the Prudential Center. I'm going.

Bisping getting a title shot is laughable..after barely coming out alive agaisnt Hammil..fighting Eric Shafer..Elvis..I don’t know who else..to get a shot???
Evans is better fit for a title shot I just feel not now..Rampage would eat both of them in the cage..This fight shouldn’t even be a Main Event. Fine the UFC wants to keep things rolling..but what about the LW division..and WW division..its like a title fight a year..Anderson Silva is the only Champ really putting it on the line all the time..The UFC needs to be more consistant with all divisions.

78 has a pretty weak main event, the undercard is stacked though.

Dana just called and said that if Bisping and Rashad ‘no contest’, I’m next in line for a title shot.

anyone complaining about this fight card doesn’t know what they’re talking about. The fight card for UFC 77 was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY worse than 78! 78 looks like Star Wars Episode 7 by comparison.
Evans – Bisping will be okay, although it’s clearly not main event worthy. (oh, and honestly, who believes that report about Bisping potentially getting a title shot with a win over Evans? There is NO WAY that report is accurate.)
Alexander – Silva has definite promise.
Parisyan – Chonan will likely be quick due to the fact that Chonan’s green in the Octagon. but still exciting.
Edgar – Fisher is going to ROCK. has Edgar ever put on a bad show?
Terrell – Herman could be a good match, even though i think he’ll cruise due to Terrell’s ring rust.
Lauzon – Reinhardt (YAWN), but it’ll be nice to see Lauzon get another win.
Alves – Lytle, okay probably boring.
Aurelio – Caudillo, we won’t even see it, so what’s it matter.
McCrory – Gono could actually be good. Gono’s experience vs. McCory’s…barncatness?

If you think that Parisyan can finish somebody in the octagon that is just silly talk.

I think the problem is that nobody likes these 2 fighters that are headlining the main event, Rashad just came of a draw to Tito and everybody knows Tito won that fight but, that point off made it a draw and Bispings a bitch!! he almost lost to sinosic that knee rocked him and he hasnt been impressive in any of his fights since he started in UFC maybe the season finale but, after that hes barelly beat every opponent hes had and he lost to Hamill, truth is Rampage would beat them both at the same time

Lets be honest about 78, its lacks a punch but when the hell is the UFC ever around this area. I live in Philly and have my tickets already!

I cant wait to see Karo/Ryo, and I think Herman/Terrell will be a gooder, but I too, am very unimpressed with what the UFC is doing these days, should throw in some more Title fights. Also, that other guy is right, get more MW and WW bigger names on, I am dissapointed, I might have better plans on Nov 17.

What sucks about this card is the Main Event, I mean what a sorry ass main event, that is a joke!! Anyhow about the LHW division
Shogun, Forrest and Hamill are out with surgeries.
Silva Vs. Lidell at UFC 79
Henderson wants a top 3 opponent
where does this leave Keith Jardine? Tito Ortiz?
I think if Houston Alexander wins at UFC 78 he’ll get either Jardine or Ortiz. Who knows
by Lycan on Oct 22, 2007 11:35 AM EDT reply actions
I guess that means that Tito should get another title fight too because Tito can tie both of these guys with a bad back. :)

The fight is a great undercard fight. I think they are both great fighters coming off two crap performances. I think one will come out looking spectacular. But title shot? Cmon, Forrest! The guy beat the number one lghthvy in the world!!!

The cool thing about the main event is that since SOooOoooo many people are dogging it out – it’ll turn out to be fight of the night or something and make the darlings of the UFC overnight or something crazy like that.

Not just anyone, but Ryo Chonan. He dominated Anderson Silva. There is no way Karo finishes him early.

lol, we shouldnt make fun of dana white, he makes these people work for their title shots, look how much he made poor old bisping work to get where he is.
he had him go on a reality show, knockout a hippie crackhead, then a guy he already just tapped in 2 mins who nearly “smashed his face in”, then beat a fat dude who dropped from 330lbs to 170(155?) and got Beat along the way, in the finale.
Then he had to fight a hungry wisconsin cheesehead who has a taste for shin, then an Austrailian dude with a fat ass who has more losses than wins, and finally give him a controversial split decision against a guy who wrestles cows and has been training mma for 3 years.
AND ALL HE NEEDS TO DO IS WIN ANOTHER FIGHT AND HE GETS A TITLE SHOT?!?!?

in no form or fashion did ryo chonan dominate anderson silva. have you ever seen that fight before? Silva was not dominated. chonan just pulled a flying submission out his ass and won. if the fight would have gone to desicion the spider would have won. plus he was fighting with a broken foot. great submission by chonan, but it was domination.

at 1st i wasnt happy bout the card but there is gonna be some really good fights .. I just think the main event is a good main event for a fight night not a PPV. I got tickets already i just like to wacht it live. but i dont think i would pay 40$ to watch it on TV.and i heard the winner gets a shot at Rampage.thats just crazy.neither of them deserve a shot at the title yet. Both promising fighters but neither ready for Rampage especially Bisping. He shouldnt have even one against Hammil. But Dana knows know matter what he throws out there as long as it has UFC on the ticket there will be people standing in line to make him even richer

Well why shouldn’t Rampage get an easy title defense? After that war with Hendo I’m sure he appreciates it.

I was watching the ad for 78 thinking ‘damn this undercard looks pretty good, I might buy this after all’. Then they announced the headline fight with two “undefeated” fighters. They both lost their last fights, IMO. I’ll be watching this online Sunday.

just not worth the 200, 300 or 500 that it will cost for decent seats.
It went from BJ Penn for LW title, to Hendo vs Ortiz, and then they came up with Evans vs Bisping.
for a return to NJ (NorthEast Coast)you would think they would at least have one headliner. They supposedly fought for 2 years to get the show here and this is what we get. I guess they dont really want to come back.
At least Bisping might get his ass whooped at airport for talkin smack.

dominated Silva, dude you must of just seen the 6 seconds of the flying heel hook because the whole fight was being won by Silva, Chonan is a badass for landing that near impossible submission on one of the best fighters alive but he was not winning at all

Well Chonon was on top of the spider in his guard for much of the fight so he was controlling the action. But i would agree not dominant cause it was in danger of being stopped at any point before that crazy submission.

i’m looking forward to the Spencer Fisher fight. the last fight Fisher had, he was quite impressive, throwing punches from all angles and even some elbows when he got in close. i love watching him fight and he seems to be getting better with every showing.

i’m excited about seeing Chonan fight! but it seems like there are many conflicting opinions about the fight. if you watch the fight in english, Bas/Mauro? says that Chonan put the finishing touch on what would have been a win, Chonan was doing very well. In the Pride Decade tho, Barnett said it was a great come from behind. personally i think chonan was ahead

dont forget that Titi lost the point for grabing the fence and preventing a TAKE DOWN 3 times. if Titi for taken down 3 times that would have allowed Evans to win those rounds. im sure if he didnt grab the fence Tito would have LOST not won

I think many people have lost sight with what is really important in this sport. Everyone is focused on who’s fighting rather than weather or not it will be a good fight. Granted neither Evans nor Bisbing diserves a title shot but this fight has the makings of a war as do many of the undercard bouts including Ryo Chonan, one of the 4 men to beat Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva with an unreal flying scissor into a heal hook check it out @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2XRZsNQb7U, vs Karo Parysian. I’d rather see an exiting fight between guys I’ve never heard of than see than watch a boring fight with super stars. True it’s fun to see big name guys but don’t wine when you don’t.

by jimmy_dean on Oct 23, 2007 8:10 AM EDT reply actions
The funniest thing about this Main Event, that it is actually better than the Main Event of the last event on the East Coast, UFC 55 at Mohegan Sun. That main event was Andre Arlovski vs Paul Buentello. And what did Buentello do to earn himself a title shot? He had 2 fights in the UFC defeating Justin Eilers and Kevin Jordan.
A main event should always be for a title, with VERY few exceptions. One exception that I can think of would be Chuck/Wandi. They can have a PPV with that being the only fight, and every mma fan would still order it. Right now, I really can’t think of another exception, unless Randy and Fedor were to fight and it wasnt for a belt… The UFC has 5 weight classes. They have about 1 PPV per month. I don’t understand why they can’t have 1 belt defended at each event. If they rotated, then the champ would have to defend once every 5 months, which is 2 times a year, 3 occasionally.

i think he would get killed in LHW and will continue to lose in MW so then if he cant go to ww he should just retire

ADIERSON SILVA!! jumping up to 205lb! As much as I love the junk yard dog. The spiders going to dominate this division. At 6.2 and walks around at 215lb is a easy fit. I don’t blame him for going up in weight……….there’s no one left in his division!
