Randy Couture to hold press conference at X-Treme Couture

randy couture
From a press release just issued:

"MMA Legend Randy Couture will hold a national press conference at Xtreme Couture Martial Arts on October 25 to address his reasons for resigning from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in every capacity. Randy will respond to the comments made by UFC President Dana White. Additionally, Randy will respond to Yahoo! Sports report that he makes between $3.25 million - $3.75 million per fight, which they continue to stand behind. Afterwards, Randy will make himself available to answer questions concerning his relationship with the UFC, future plans, MMA as a sport or anything else pertaining to his resignation."

This should be interesting.

Remember, Fedor Emelianenko is also holding a press conference today at 5:30 p.m. ET to announce his future fight plans. Jesse Holland from UFCmania.com will be in attendance and we'll pass along the scoop.

This is just a reminder -- the Couture and Emelianenko press conferences are unrelated at this time.

i for one hope he announces that he made a mistake and is staying in the ufc. wishful thinking on my part but you never know. i hope he also adresses the fact of the money and exposure he made in the ufc, not just his base salary. i hope someone asks him if he would even be in the movies making the scorpion king if it wasnt for the ufc.

I dont think that Dana will allow Randy to fight in some other organization because he and the UFC would rather have all the revenue and reign supreme amongst all other organizations and with M-1 wanting to share fighters and have other fight in their home it will comflict with the UFC to be the top org

What if Fedor vs Randy was an exhbititon..like the type on TUF show that don’t go on ur record..I’m sure there can be a loop whole in this thing..that Randy can use for his benefit.

HOLY INTERESTING LINK. Thanks Lycan. Can’t wait to hear about that press conference. Its just going to lead to a whole bunch of legal BS in my opinion.

Mania, or anyone else,
What time is Randy’s press conference, anyone know? Also, neither of these press conferences will be streaming live on the internet, will they?

randy negotiated his contract himself, he should be a man and honor it, bottom line. dana is a douchebag but would make a bad business decision to let him out of his contract. it would set a precedent for others to follow. i think the fighters should be paid more but no one forces them to sign with them, and there are other organizations out there if they aren’t satisfied. i used to be a huge couture fan, now all i can say is fuck him!

My guess is Randy is just going to repeat what he’s already said. This is probably going to go back and forth until it ends up in court.

A bomb is going to be dropped today. The UFC really, really screwed this one up.

Obviously the UFC did more then what was neccassary, Fedors managers have said from the start the UFC was offering the most money by far. You cant blame the UFC for not wanting to hold events in russia and give revenues away or letting him take the chance of getting hurt in Sambo after paying him a boat load of cash.

As far as Couture goes he could have asked the UFC to restructure his contract if he didnt like it or better yet not call the UFC and sign a new one at all, the Couture thing is comical and makes Couture look like a ass, Fedors situation is buisness, Fedor wanted certain things it happens.

PLEASE ask Randy about when he said this about Tito:

“Holding out for more money and shooting movies is disrespectful.”

Please, please do it.

Has anyone heard that Mark Cuban is trying to buy M-1 and he is supposed to be talking to Randy about setting up a fight between him and Fedor. Sorry don’t have the link but it was on www.chron.com that’s The Houston newspaper website. I know it may not happen this way but Mark Cuban has the money and he would make sure they are both well paid.

If Dana doesn’t make money and make sure that UFC thrives as a business, none of us will have any fights to watch monthly. I’d love to see him punched in the face, but he’s right. Did he force Randy to sign with him? Of course he wants to hoard all of the good fights and top fighters! Show me one good business that doesn’t operate this way? UFC is a business and must make money. For years it struggled and is just now starting to make it bigger. Dana must juggle treating the fans, treating the fighters, and making money. If these things don’t jive then he has to make a decision, but the money is the most important thing. I agree that if he didn’t hold onto Couture’s contract, it would set a dangerous precedent. I don’t particularly blame Couture either, I’m sure he has good reasons. I’d think better of him to finish his contract, but to each their own.

Any organization in or from Russia is controled by the Russian Mafia. I hope Randy dosen’t get mixed up with that bunch. If you do, they OWN you, contract or no.

Dana, find a way to make the fight happen. But only in the UFC

Dude I dunno why all of you hate on the UFC and Dana so much. Dana made the UFC what it is today and although I do occasionally watch other mma promotions, the UFC has the most to offer. Quit jumping on band wagons you douche nozzels. Dana made mma more than anyone else could have.

I was really disappointed to hear the resignation of Randy Couture, man he was on a roll there beating Silvia and Gonzaga, his decision comes at such a bad time considering Liddell just lost his second bout. On the other hand anything can happen and anything is possible. Fedor said he would be honored to fight Randy down the road, so if Randy and Fedor want that bad enough, I have patience and I am not worried that it will never happen. The ball is your court Randy and Fedor. Hopefully you both make the right decision and are you ready are you ready get it on. Quick note The UFC better start recruiting some middle weights, cause wow Anderson Silva is on fire, that guy looks unstoppable, and I hope the old Chuck Liddell returns and does fight Wanderlai. Money should never be the issue when it comes to doing what you love, but it is understandable if you get screwed over to take a break and consider your options especially when there is lots of pressure. Dana pay Randy the money, believe it will pay off, you will see some great fights and more fans will roll in. How often do you see a 44 year old kick some ass.

I second this for the most part the sport would not be where it is today without dana and the UFC. I agree that Dana is a little annoying to listen to at times but guess what, the UFC is a business and it survives and brings us a monthly pay per view because Dana has put together a such a good product. Now with the WEC they have the best minor league system there is. Shit who out there has it like this. Those other orginazations will have a limited talent pool. The UFC and the WEC has the greatest fighters right now. They will keep the big names, Dana is not dumb, annoying but not dumb.

I do dislike dana, but i will have to agree with this…But the ufc still needs new managment in my opinion.

No one has answered the question yet – when is this press conference being held??

And, at the moment, with the current facts at play, Randy is definitely the douche in this situation so he definitely has something explaining to do to his fans. After watching Dana’s interview there’s absolutely no LOGICAL way you can argue with his facts. Some of you might think he’s annoying (I actually think he’s hysterical and has a great “bigger than life” brash personality that’s great for the sport) but you can’t deny he’s in the right and still be considered a mature and sane person.

So I’ve got a question. I’ve heard that Randy’s contract with the UFC is up in 9 months, but Dana didn’t mention that is his p.c. he kept saying that Randy has to fight his last two fights before his contract is up. Does anybody know if Randy’s contract has any sort of time restraints?

i got mixed feelings about this.i think randy should honor his contract but the ufc and dana should pay up.randy is one of the most talented fighters ever.even when odds are against him he prevails.big names should get paid big money.the ufc is is not hurting for money.i say take care of your fighters and they will take care of you.beside money is a big motovator to preform well.
