UFC Quick Quote: Tito Ortiz to fight in early 2008

tito ortiz

"Right now I am totally focused on training. I have always had a reputation for being the best prepared fighter in any match I've ever entered, and I intend to maintain that reputation. I'm currently working very closely with the UFC to plan my next fight, which you can be sure will not disappoint my fans. It looks like I will fight again in early 2008, and when I do I will be 100% prepared to crush my opponent."

-- Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz today issued a press release about his next fight in which he indicates that it will be sometime in early 2008. There was no mention of an opponent.

Tilto would be cool if can do his thang again. But he’s an ass, and some not all but some people like that. He’a with a nice lady, and he’s the Former LHW champ. It would be cool if he could fight again. But for me, i don’t like his style or hisantics. Oh well, hope does good anyways.

I hope its against a top level guy instead of someone near the bottom trying to make his way up.

That’s strange. That compltely contradicts the last public statement he made, and it was a thread here on mania a few days ago. It said that Tito was going to be taking a good amount of time off and rest so all of his nagging injuries will have time to heel, and he can fight like the Tito of old again.

Now he says that he is back to training and ready to fight in early ’08. This does not make any sense when compared to what he said just a few days ago. But then again, when does Tito Ortiz make sense?

by ViolentMike on Oct 11, 2007 11:48 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Is Dana not going to hold him to a rematch with Rashad? Or has Tito realized his self-promotional garbage is wearing thin and needs one last big-name mega-match? A fight with Henderson (which he does not deserve, by the way) would be a PPV main event fight. A Rashad rematch would maybe headline an Ultimate Fight Night. There is probably a big difference in the money for those situations, and Tito is about nothing more than money and his clothing line.

I would still prefer the Dana-Tito match up. I don’t see Tito beating any top-tier fighter anymore.

Tito and only beat half assed guys. He’s outclassed. I wish Dana would ship his ass off to WEC!

Why can’t Tito come back and make some noise? The dude is ALWAYS in top condition and fights his ass off. He may be a bit one dimensional in this day and age but he’s a top dog for sure. If he wasn’t so outspoken, everyone would be rooting for him. I actually think he showed alot of class on TUF and has matured.

Tito would destroy Houston because he has the perfect style to neutralize him. Plus he is a lot bigger. It wouldnt be a good fight either because Houston wouldnt know what to do on the ground and Tito would probably just take the mount and elbow his enourous skull.

Would be interesting only for the fact that these two guys have the largest skulls in the UFC.

Tito vs Henderson

If Tito can win..then the winner of Chuck vs Wandi..the next fight can be

Tito vs Wandi part2
Tito vs Chuck part3

Henderson vs wandi part3
Henderson vs Chuck.

Houston can be placed into the mix to stir things up.

Where’s Richardo Arona @ ?

Off the subject: Can anyone confirm this?

Dan hawley went to the set of Jerry Springer with Wes simms, b/c simms stole Hawley’s $2000 fight earnings from the Bodog NJ fight, and spent it on hookers, video taped it and sent hawley a copy.
simms convinced hawley that he wanted to pay him back, and that he wanted to sort it out, and that it would be fun to do on springer. so on sunday 10/7/07 they both flew they both flew to chicago, for the tpaing monday, and while in their seperate green rooms, hawley got bored and convinced one of the girls that works on the set to let him into simms’ room.

hawley asked simms for his money and simms sd that he wasnt gonna pay him back so hawley
punched him, landed an upper cut and knocked simms out, he proceeded to jump on top of him and pound out simms face and the went for a heel hook, he popped simms out and started screaming when he came to.

needless to say springer’s crew ushered them out of the building pretty quickly and didnt tape an episode (they said it was b/c simms was bleeding too much).

and 20 min later hawley was back on a plane to buffalo.

Tito needs to start winning against some good competition. Point blank. Tito is a southern Californian like me, but I can only support a dude so much when he clearly doesnt have his shit together. Ive been pullin for him the past couple of years. I hope that he makes something happen soon. He’s shown good things in different parts of some of his fights. He look great against Griffin in the first round. Bustin him up and then slipped up as the fight went on. Looked great against Shamrock, but then again what LHW wouldnt look good at Ken’s state, and held his own in the second round of the Liddell fight before trying to bang with Chuck and got caught in the third. Didnt look good against Evans but I think would have won the fight had he not grabbed the fence. He is in desperate need of a big win. He needs to go for broke and step in there with a big name. If he cant win, then he doesnt need to be there anymore. Maybe coaching is his thing??

not everyones in it to win it my friend – its the buzz you get only from a real fight that keeps you wanting more – coaching is for the guys who cant compete anymore – randy couture pure example of this

Hell yeah I would love to see him beat wandy now. Tito talks to much trash and he can not back it up. Even Hendo would kill him.

im sure.. tito will come back stronger than ever. i hope tito get his belt back. but with the talent in the LHW now, the chances are really thin. but hell, tito ortiz is the man. it may not show in his last few fights, but im sure when he’s healthy and conditioned. he will be the same tito again.

It is strange, he didn’t mention what was injured or how much time he was taking off. He sure made a fast announcement once Rashad inked to fight Bisping. He needs to come back strong no matter who he fights, or hang it up. He’s had a couple of good rounds over the past few years. Other than that, if he thinks he’s the best prepared fighter, he’s wrong.

as from sherdog.com:

‘The Caveman" Dan Hawley KO’s Wes Sims

Chicago, Illinois

In an ironic turn of events, the 135lb Bodog fighter, Dan “The Caveman” Hawley reportedly knocked out his promoter, former UFC Heavyweight Wes Sims Monday afternoon. Sims and Hawley had traveled to Chicago to film an episode of The Jerry Springer Show. Wes Sims had allegedly never paid Hawley for his last fight in Bodog, and the topic of The Springer Show was to be “Promoters Who Stiff Their Fighters.” In an exclusive interview on Tuesday, Dan Halwey told us that he had agreed to fly out to film the Jerry Springer show, only after Wes Sims had agreed to pay him the money he was owed upfront – before they filmed the episode of Jerry Springer.

Backstage at the Jerry Springer Show, the featherweight Dan “The Caveman’ Hawley confronted the 6’10” 265lb Wes Sims, and demanded the money he was owed before they went on stage. According to eye witness accounts, Wes began verbally taunting Hawley, and a David-vs-Goliath—like shoving match ensued. When the set security finally arrived on the scene, Wes Sims was unconscious, lying on the floor and bleeding profusely from his mouth and nose, Hawley apparently holding him down with an foot lock.
After viewing set video surveillance police determined that Hawley was defending himself and no charges were pressed on either fighter. One of the officers commented, “I guess that will teach Mr. Sims to steal from his fighters, no matter how much bigger he is than they are.”

In all honesty it look legit, but its very odd though. Couture still had some good match ups, like Nog for instance. That would be a great fight.

Do you honestly think Randy would write dana a letter??? Look – Randy knew that the UFC didn’t sign Fedor a long time ago – this signing of Fedor to M-1 is not news to Randy. Yes he’s filming a movie now – but remember he’s nursing a broken arm from the Gonzaga fight – the article seemed disrespectful and completely uncharacteristic of the natural. I’ll be the first to say that it is a fake!

Fedor is a homo..How on earth do you walk away from the greatest possible MMA fight of all time..to go and fight is some backyard in siberia..that is buttcheeks.

Couture..God Bless You..You’re the all time greatest heavyweight MMA Champ.

by Likwidfox on Oct 11, 2007 3:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I certainly hope this is not true. I can understand wanting to fight the best, and Couture really is in a league of his own in the UFC now, but I think a Noguera Couture fight would go the distance and Vera would give him a difficult time. (Randy has said Vera is one of the most naturally talented fighters he has ever sparred with). I strongly wish him to stay at least for the last two fights on his contract
