Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale: Clay Guida vs. Roger Huerta

Clay Guida (22-8) will fight Roger Huerta (19-1) in a lightweight showdown at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 Finale on December 8 at The Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Guida confirmed the clash with Jesse Holland from UFCmania.com this afternoon, saying that the bout agreements for the main event were inked last night.
"I'm going to train for this fight like no other because I know a win over a competitor like Roger in front of a national audience puts me near the top of the division," said Guida. "Roger is a friend, but when that bell rings it's going to be all business."
And even though Guida has had some recent trouble stopping opponents, "The Carpenter" says that trend will end against "El Matador."
"I'm going to finish Roger," said Guida. "It's already in my mind that I'm going to make a statement with this fight."
Guida -- known for his seemingly endless amount of energy -- has put on a show during each of his four fights inside the Octagon. And even though he has a deceptive record (2-2) in those contests, he's proven that he is among the top 155 pound fighters.
In his most recent bout, Guida earned a split-decision win over Marcus Aurelio at UFC 74: "Respect" in August.
Huerta is undefeated (5-0) in the UFC since his arrival in 2006. He's also been one of the busiest fighters in the organization -- this will be his fifth fight in 2007.
With a win over Guida -- his stiffest test to date inside the Octagon -- Huerta will no doubt be knocking on the door of a title shot come early 2008.
Talk about a great match up.

Definitely a hard one to call. Both have endless cardio, great submission defense, and good chins. I don’t think either are very well known for having very heavy hands or being super great sub artists, though. Seems like something that would go to a decision. They could put this one in a rocky movie for sure. I’m putting my money at mmaplayground on Guida. He’s faced tougher opponents so far and most of his losses are questionable. Roger has finished more of his marks in the octogon but they’ve all been virgins.

About freaking time that Huerta goes up against a solid guy. This is going to be an AWESOME fight. This will throw either fighter into contention immediately. I hope Guida finishes Huerta. I hate the pretty boys that get royal treatment in the UFC. About time for Huerta to step up ….. only for Guida to knock him back down. haha. (that was so cheesy)

A good fight for sure I am looking forward to seeing huerta in a fight against an established opponent.
A win would be good but a finish would be really good/big for huerta or guida
I’m goiing for Huerta.

oh hell yeah, this is great news! finally a chance for huerta to prove if he belongs at the top of the lw division…i’m gonna pick guida to win, i think he’s got more experience against tougher competition, he’ll be ready from the opening bell, and he never gets tired, he’ll out work huerta and make more of an impression on the judges, i don’t think he’ll stop huerta like he says, i think it’ll go the distance…theres a lot of pressure on huerta in this fight, people are gonna be saying this is his first real test, he needs a win here or his other ones aren’t gonna be worth as much and he’ll fall right out of contention for the belt and be back where he started, this is a big big fight for him…for guida its a chance to take roger’s spot in line for the belt and he knows it, he’s proving that good showings against top competition are almost as important as wins…

The worst case scenario for this fight is if it’s a great fight, with Clay Guida clearly winning but not dominating the fight, and the decision going to Huerta.

Guida will bring a fight all the way to the third but we’ve seen that in everyone of his last ten fights. He is a ferocious fighter with a severe need for a trainer to show him how to finish top talent beyond a split decision. This will be a tough competition. I thought by now Huerta was ready for the next level and this fight will not put him near a contender spot for at least another 2 or 3 fights or well into December of 08. He still must fight a top 10 fighter and this fight only delays what hopefully will be the inevitable rise to a battle with the likes of Ken-Flo. And by the way, Guida was robbed on that Griffin decision.

The NSAC that will not allow fighters to fight more than once in the same night, but I don’t see why they couldn’t do it over multiple events. 1 whole card 8 lightweight fights and a main event, next card has 4 fights, next has two and then you have a monster main event that everyone is excited for because thay have been watching it build up for a year. i’m not sure if you’re saying tyson griffin doesnt fight anybody good or if you’re saying there’s some kind of conspiracy and he only wins fights because the ufc allows him too, but either way thats crazy…his last three fights in the ufc have been against all respectable fighters, including guida who’re you’re hyping up, so thats kind of a contradiction, and i understand you think clay might have got robbed in that fight, but there is no conspiracy, if there was i think guida would have been given the win, he seems more marketable doesn’t he? the fact is it was a close fight and tyson brought the fight to guida just as much if not more than guida brought it to him, and he left a fight that could have gone either way in the judges hands, i remember when that fight happened a lot of people thought guida won, but i will always say that decision was the right one, i’ve watched that fight like 5 times and everytime i come away thinking tyson not only won, but possibly won all three rounds, guida made an impression with his attitude and cardio in that fight, but he was outworked by tyson from every position, from the bottom and on the feet, tyson had some sick takedown defense in that fight, was awesome from his back and won the stand up throughout the fight…don’t get me wrong, i like clay guida a lot, and i’m picking him to beat huerta too, but there’s no reason to bad mouth tyson griffin, that dude is a beast…

I’m looking forward to this one. The lightweight division has so many energetic, frenetic fighters out there that it puts most of the other divisions to shame. Whenever I see guys like Clay Guida, Tyson Griffin, or Roger Huerta on a card, I know I’m going to see some fireworks. These guys can teach all the people who are new to the sport that sometimes fights that go to decision are a lot more exciting than those that end in a KO.

Now that the UFC has all the best fighters under contract there are not enough events to keep these fighters active. This will be a very interesting fight with a furious pace. Clay Guida is one of the more exciting fighters to watch in the UFC. Roger Huerta is one of the most tallented fighters in the lightweight division, but his fighting resume is divoid of a big time name, Guida is absolutly the big name Huerta needs. If Huerta wins this fight it will put him right in the picture for a title shot. Guida is no walkthrough, he gave Tyson Griffin a tremendous challange in a fight I thought was one of the best I’ve ever seen. Many people, as well as myself, thought Guida won a very close decision. No question this will be an entertaining fight, but I’m picking Guida in a Unanimous decision.

The LW and the FW divisions kicks ass, Granted you might not see as many knock outs but the fights are generaly faster paced and the fighters don’t gas as frequently. They make the best main events.

Think of how awesome that would be a weekend long event or over the course of a month. Starting with a top 10 or 12. If the NSAC won’t allow, couldn’t they bring it to another state/country if need be that would allow it. Wow a who’s, who’s night or weekend of just absolute contenders. First time in his UFC career that Huerta won’t be fighting a UFC newcomer, and the first time in his UFC career that he won’t be fighting a 1 dimensional fighter. A true test to see if Huerta is the “Golden Boy” or the “Poster Boy”. I see Guida winning by decision, or knockout in the 3rd if Huerta tires from Guida’s crazy pace.

What are you talking about? Travis Lutter in a Main Event? You do remember the last time he was main event, it was for the world title and he couldn’t even make weight? Lutter is a tool and I hope I never have to watch him fight again, ESPECIALLY in a main event. Big Nog will not fight on a TUF Finale – he is WAY too big of a name. Werdum – you think he can bring more excitement to a fight than Guida/Huerta???? Mike Swick in a Main Event? He hasn’t even had his first fight at WW yet. Swick is PPV prelim material, not main event anything. And PLEASE don’t even get me started on Arolvski….

UFN 10 Main Event = Spencer Fisher/Sam Stout = LIGHWEIGHT
UFN 9 Main Event = Joe Stevenson vs Melvin Guillard – LIGHWEIGHT
So that last 4 free events on Spike feature LW’s in the Main Event. Why wait until now to complain? No on else is complaining, ESPECIALLY about Huera/Guida. If that fight doesn’t excite you, you just just stop watching mma immediately.

UFC 70 and 75 were also free. Putting a heavyweight main event(cro cop vs gonzaga) and a light heavywight title fight (rampage vs henderson) so if you dont like lightweights your getting yours too. Even though LW are the most exciting with WW a close second.

wow this is gonna be an awesome fight, ive been enjoying the lights lately they are so very technical and fast and just damn exciting. i know how good guida is but i just think roger has all the tools to be champion. hes just gets better each time, and i havent seen anyone lately that he hasnt steamrolled. i believe weve seen guidas best already, and he has a problem with his temper which can alter performance in fights. also he looks a little sloppy sometimes or maybe a bit lazy, roger is always switched on and ready to go. roger is continuing to improve and knows how to finish a fight too, which guida has had trouble with. roger is the better striker and has a sound ground game. roger is 18-1 and still being called a prettyboy that says to me that hes good enough not to take any dammage to the face, that will be the decider. so in short huerta will finish the fight in the third or fourth tko or referee stoppage due to strikes. i like clay but roger is the future of the the lightweight division and i cant see him being stopped, well not by the carpenter…

About time we get to find out what Huerta is really made of!!!
I think that Guida will hand him his first defeat in the UFC. Huerta is a pretty boy, who the ufc is using to crack into the ever-expanding Latino market. Whyelse would they give him all fights where his opponent is making his UFC debut? He is part of the marketing apparatus as Bisping was to spread the UFC into the UK. Personally I’d just like to see the best fighters, fight one another. Let’s see Huerta fight Frankie Edgar, and last past the first round.
