UFC Fight Night 11: Fighter paydays and salaries

UFCmania.com has received the fighter payouts for UFC Fight Night 11 from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for the event held on September 19 at The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The big money winner? Luke Cummo. Good for him -- put some of that scratch on the side for diapers for your soon-to-be child ... you're gonna need it.

Nate Diaz -- The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 5 winner -- brought home the next highest purse with $30,000. And Thiago Alves banked $28,000 after a nine-month layoff from competition.

Not too shabby.

Here are all the UFC Fight Night 11 payouts:

Kenny Florian — $22,000 ($11,000 to show, $11,000 to win)
Din Thomas — $16,000
Florian defeated Thomas via submission (rear naked choke) in round one

Chris Leben — $20,000 ($10,000 to show, $10,000 to win)
Terry Martin — $12,000
Leben defeated Martin via knockout in round three

Nate Diaz — $30,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 to win)
Junior Assuncao — $6,000
Diaz defeated Assuncao via submission (guillotine choke) in round one

Nate Quarry — $20,000 ($10,000 to show, $10,000 to win)
Pete Sell — $10,000
Quarry defeated Sell via technical knockout in round three

Luke Cummo — $32,000 ($16,000 to show, $16,000 to win)
Edilberto "Crocota" de Oliveira — $4,000
Cummo defeated "Crocota" via technical knockout in round one

Cole Miller — $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win)
Leonard Garcia — $6,000
Miller defeated Garcia via unanimous decision

Gray Maynard — $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win)
Joe Veres — $3,000
Maynard defeated Veres via knockout in round one

Thiago Alves — $28,000 ($14,000 to show, $14,000 to win)
Kuniyoshi Hironaka — $10,000
Alves defeated Hironaka via verbal submission (strikes) in round two

Dustin Hazelett — $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win)
Jonathan Goulet — $6,500
Hazelett defeats Goulet via submission (armbar) in round one

Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. For example, fighters receive bonuses for "Submission of the Night," "Fight of the Night," and others.

The total fighter payroll for the UFC Fight Night 11 was $273,500.

Still seems low for these guys, glad to see Leben make 20K and Diaz make 30K. those two looked great. How the F did cuommo make the most last night? I’m still pumped about last night though! Great card!

Wow..Luke Cummo has a good contract..his fight was an undercard and he made more than every winner except for Ken-Flo.

by PhilQNY on Sep 20, 2007 12:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Should’nt Florian be in line for an extension? Dude fights some bad asses and only makes 11 and 11? That seems crazy to me, same with Din as well. He is a 9 year vet, beat the former lightweight champ(Jens), and current WW champ(Serra) and only makes twice as much as TUF 5 guy’s? Somebody help me figure this out. Isn’t Luke Cummo like 6-4 as well? Wow…

by Brandon on Sep 20, 2007 12:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

luke cummo is fun to watch, i wanted to see his fight, thats crazy he’s making more money than florian in a main event win when his fight didn’t even get shown…they definitely could have squeezed the cummo fight, the maynard fight and the hazelett fight into the show last night…

by tha spida on Sep 20, 2007 12:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah, the maynard fight only lasted like 10 secs or some shit, they couldn’t cut out the soundless segment on spinal fusion and throw that fight in there? I’m definately not complaining though, i’ll say it again, great f’n card!!!

Kenny will be getting a pay raise when he gets a new contract…I wonder how many fights are left on his contract?

I wish I got to see the Cummo fight too..I love that nerd lol..he is always getting better with each fight he should be on a main card soon enough

it says cummo made 32K, florian only made 22K. that just doesn’t make sense to me. Cummo took home more than anyone last night? well, hopefully Leben got KO of the night and Diaz got sub of the night!

What fight do you guys think the fight of the night was? I give it to Quarry/Sell. That was a slug fest. The KO was sweet with the blood spraying!

Wow dana W is a cheap ass… Look, I dont know what these guys are making in their contracts but these paydays are tiny…

by BustYourFace on Sep 20, 2007 1:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Quarry vs Sell would win fight of the night in my book..but Leben vs Martin..was a better KO finish in my book..that exchange was nasty..To try and debate and pick fight of the night..is great..shows how good this card was..UFC FightNight’s with the last Fisher/ Stout are becoming better then the PPV events..let’s see if UFC 76 on Saturday can us debating on who should get fight of the night.

by PhilQNY on Sep 20, 2007 1:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Kenny is making crap for a guy who already competed for a title and is undefeated in has last 4-5 fights.

by Stafo on Sep 20, 2007 1:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

some of them are tiny, yes. but you can tell they’re getting better…look at cole miller and grey maynard. Those guys were making their ufc debuts and they got 16,000 to win, say for example cole fights 4 times this yr and wins them all (maybe not likely but it could happen) multiply 16,000 by 4 and you get 64,000. Add any bonus money he makes on to that and thats a pretty decent living.

Who got KO of the night, Quarry or Leben? I was pulling for Martin over Leben, but after taunting him the way he did after knocking Leben against the cage, Martin deserved to get KTFO.

They are still fighting under their TUF contracts. The Tuf contracts have gotten progessions larger. Florian was on
TUF 1 and Cummo was in season 2.

How does it behoove Spike to NOT show the undercards?? At least run those tonight or something. This undercard thing drives me crazy. Boxing never shows undercards because NO ONE CARES. MMA fans LOVE UNDERCARD FIGHTS!!!! It’s frustrating to me that we can’t even BEG Spike to watch their channel.

that is rediculous that cummo made more than leben and kenflo, i am glad leben ko’ed martin, he talks too much $hit and from what ive seen there isnt a whole lot to back up his mouth, except for lebens left

It’s tought to call. Both were great. I personally like Quarry’s better. Sure the exchange with Leben was a nice added suprise, but the blood shooting from the mouth of Sell was priceless. Possibly Maynard would get KO of the night. We didn’t get to see it but he KO’d the guy in 9 seconds with a left hook that dropped the guy followed by a 3 punch combo. I want to see that!

Raise these guys pay! Not to the millions but I think for the work and effort, and risk, not to mention the popularity of the sport. I could justify doubling these payouts. Din thomas pay will probably be spent on his injury. It sucks to think these guys fight 2 – 3 – 4 months and some are not even pulling down what I make in two weeks. Its crazy!

What fight do you guys think the fight of the night was? I give it to Quarry/Sell. That was a slug fest. The KO was sweet with the blood spraying!

The Quarry KO was definately sweet, but my vote is for Leben, basically due to the fact that he about got his head torn off by that wicked Martin right, Martin proceeded to taunt Leben and CL came back with a flury and ultimately got the KO with a left hook that looked like it came from Arizona!

my vote for fight of the night, KO of the night and possibly FOY goes to Leben, because of the aforementioned, plus the fact that Leben changed up his game so effectively and really looked like a well rounded fighter!

HUH, what were you looking at and reading. It clearly shows that Luke got $32k and Kenny got $22k. Thats pretty crazy. It also looks like the UFC got Leonard Garcia locked up to a shitty contract. He went from getting $3k to $6k. Big Whoop. Yeah, he lost to Cole, but I never seen a boring Garcia fight.

I just watched the Cummo/Crocata fight, and I’m STILL laughing. Crocata gets introduced from his corner while wearing a beaten up straw cowboy hat, and he stomps his fight like a bull. If you like the bull-like footstomps, then keep watching. He appearantly like to take the center of the octagon and stomp his fight like a bull, or to try and cause it to rain in doors. Wierd dude. Then like 20 seconds into the fight, he starts to see ghosts, and he literally waves to a person that isn’t there. Then he counters a Cummo punch “with a right hand and a scary face”. Then he reaches in the air with each of his hands like 4 times, like he is tyring to catch invisible butterflies, or fireflies. Then he gets rocked and hears a ghost talking to him. So instead of paying attention to the person trying to knock his head off, he keeps looking at his newly found friend, Casper, and then gets knocked out. This is one of the strangest fights I’ve ever seen. And here it is:

That’s correct, dailymotion has those 3 fights. I woulda been mad if they had the Miller/Garcia on there, because that would have meant that I wasted 2 hard earned dollars. Well, actually not too hard earned, seeing I’m at work right now, and since I’m still hourly for some reason, I made much more than $2 while watching the fight. Some things just work out!

Dustin Hazelett is sweet at BJJ, WOW.

What a nice kid too. Guolet seems like a jerk for the most part, always talking crap over the computer about what top fighter he can destroy. I wouldn’t have been upset if he broke his arm – GREAT sportsmanship on the part of Dustin.

by ViolentMike on Sep 20, 2007 4:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I REALLY want to see more of this Dustin Hazelett kid. He is extemely talented, especially for being 21. He said he has been training strictly BJJ for years, I wonder how many – he’s not very old.

I only found 1 other fight of his. Its funny too because after watching him vs Goulet, I was wondering how is striking is. Appearantly, its pretty decent, just ask Chad Reiner!

Plus, Cumo actually went to the finals. Florian did not. Right? They didn’t do two weight classes in TUF 1 did they?

Anyway, I thought Cumo could have beat Joe Stevenson if he had fought a smarter fight. I garante you he knows that. Would he beat him again if they fought a rematch? Probably not…. But the point is Luke IS a good fighter.

My God! These guys need a raise! Im sure there is a lawyer out there reading this. They need someone to get these fighters what they deserve. MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world. UFC is just screwing em..

some of them are tiny, yes. but you can tell they’re getting better…look at cole miller and grey maynard. Add any bonus money he makes on to that and thats a pretty decent living.

That’s not a good living. Sure, $60k isn’t bad if you’re sitting behind a desk all day with medical benefits and physical longevity, but if you’re earning the same money by bashing your body and brain, that kind of money is ludicrous. You’re living year to year, if not month to month. What kind of job is that, with this kind of risk? I have no idea whether the UFC covers medical expenses of fighters, but can you imagine how much PPO coverage for a professional MMA fighter over the age of 30 would be? I would imagine that it would be comparable to the rate for a 65 individual, which I believe is like $800 per month. In four months that’s $3,200. Garcia netted about $3k for this fight. Do the math.

One big surgery — even with insurance — could easily cost you $15-20k out of pocket. I personally know of someone whose surgery cost him $100K (yes, $100,000.00) AFTER INSURANCE. So let’s take Din Thomas for example. He earned $16k for his fight. After taxes let’s assume he nets about $10k, depending on his write-offs. If knee surgery costs him $5k or more out of pocket, then his winning is shit. I have no idea whether the IRS lets professional fighters call medical expenses business related expenses, but I hope they do.

What, are top tier professional UFC fighters supposed to live with their parents? After they’ve just fought in front of 1.5M people?! Do you think you could live independently off of Garcia’s UFC pay?

At the end of the day, this money fucking sucks. I mean, Jesus, the main event should at least be paying a six-figure sum to the winner out of fucking respect. Call these free shows a loss or break even. They’re great for promoting the PPV’s, where all the big money is anyway. I’ve heard that sponsors mostly offer free gear or pay for some of fighters’ expenses, which isn’t real money to me. It looks good to have the name on your shorts, but what does it mean when you have to take your wife or gf on vacation, or buy your kid some back-to-school clothes?

I feel sorry for these guys. Sure, there are Liddells and Ortiz’ out there, but 99% of these fighters are living hand to mouth. That’s sad, when you see Dana White driving around in Lamborghinis and flying around in private jets. Doesn’t seem right to me.

I think the UFC WW and LHW champions (their two most popular divisions) should be earning EIGHT-figure purses, or at least eight-figure incomes if they fight and win twice in one year. In this market I think that’s what they deserve. When Georges St. Pierre fights, he brings PPV money with him. He brings in Canada, for Christ’s sake! Chuck made millions per fight, but he was doing the low seven-figures. With his draw, he should have made no less than $5-10M per fight from the UFC alone. If De La Hoya can earn over $50M for losing in a withering sport, then Liddell can earn $10M.

People are not buying PPV shows just to watch that stupid gladiator in the beginning and get hard watching Arianny in a bikini, they’re buying them for the fights (ie., the fighters). So that means the top UFC brass are making their millions off of these fighters’ blood and pain. Fuck that. That’s just wrong.

by Doug on Sep 21, 2007 3:52 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Cummo is by far not the best fighter on that card though, which means he should not have made the most money! they should make thier pay based on thier skill set and ability to finish!

Hold up! Fighters are underpaid but Tito isnt one of them. He is a terrible mixed martial artists. He takes u down and tried topund on you from inside his opponents guard. He doesnt even try to pass guard, thats pathetic. That crap might work against Shamrock, but what will happen if he fights a tough fighter with a strong ju jitsu guard (like shogun). He will gret his arm riipped off! All it takes is good wrestleing (to keep tito from taking you down) or a strong guard (ju jitsu) to beat tito. TITO is without a doubt the most overpaid fighter in mma. For as much of a puss (im using Dana white language) as Tito is and for how much he is overpaid, he should fight is friends, his brother and his mother.

Fighters are grossly underpaid, however Tito is not one of them!!!!!!!!1

Are u kidding? Im gonna have to watch that fight. Sounds entertaining.

By the way Luke is a better fighter then he gets credit for, he is only 26 or 27 years old, the guy has a great work ethic, he has a great diet (although the urine therapy is a little extreme), he is an intelligent dude, with crisp Muy Tai, and always improving ju jitsu. Cummo is like Florian, a talented Nerd, with a warrior spirit. You gotta respect that!

I just watched Alves vs. Hironaka ~ man what a total domination! i don’t know much about Hironaka, if he’s a gamer or not, but Thiago tore him a new ass! completely dominating performance by Alves! Hironaka looks to have a solid chin though, he got nailed by so many shots square in the jaw, I think the numerous leg kicks that he ate definately slowed him down!

Props to Alves!!

Bad camera work on that, barely saw the KO punch, but sweet. I wonder what the official time of that fight was.

Does it have anything to with it being in England?

some of them are tiny, yes. but you can tell they’re getting better…look at cole miller and grey maynard. Those guys were making their ufc debuts and they got 16,000 to win, say for example cole fights 4 times this yr and wins them all (maybe not likely but it could happen) multiply 16,000 by 4 and you get 64,000. Add any bonus money he makes on to that and thats a pretty decent living.

yes but out of that 64k are many expenses and also fed tax thats a crappy amount of pay cause he maybe keeps 2k a month probably less, my bet is diaz brothers still live with mom and dad.
