THATS WHAT MAKES ME RESPECT THIS GUY, HE DOES HAVE DRIVE TO BE ONE OF THE BEST, HE GOT A BAD CALL ON THE TITO FIGHT, I THOUGHT HE WON THAT FIGHT ( NOT MEANT TO STUR UP MORE CONTROVERSY) --HE DOESNT WANT TO FIGHT ANYTHING OTHER THAN TOP TIER FIGHTERS, AND EVENTUALLY IF PEOPLE A LONG TIME FROM NOW PULL UP HIS STATS THEY CANT SAY HE LOST FIGHTS TO NOBODY’S BUT HE DID FIGHT SOME TOUGH TALENT. HE IS NO FLASH IN THE PAN, I LIKE THIS GUY AND DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS ABOUT HIM. THE ONLY FIGHT I CAN SAY I WASNT IMPRESSED WITH WAS THE HECTOR RAMIREZ FIGHT, HE FOUGHT NOT TO WIN THAT ONE. BUT AS AN UNPOPULAR OPINION I GIVE HIM A CHANCE AGAINST SHOGUN

I think that Shogun should take this fight convincingly but does anyone else have any thoughts about all the upsets in the past few months? I can’t get those thoughts out of my head so I was just wondering if anyone else has that going on. Nog was pretty much beat, Cro Cop was beat, GSP, and so on, blah, blah, we all know how it goes.

Shogun should take this fight 90% of the time, but that 10% seems to be really bothering me lately.

Forrest is great. He, along with Stephen Bonnar, are among the top reasons why MMA is where it is today.

I’m happy to see an All Access Forrest Griffin – it will be entertaining FOR SURE!!!

But the thing is, everybody already knows who Forrest is, and everyone knows he trains at Xtreme Couture. I mean, he was even shown in Randy’s most recent All Access. I think that the UFC could have possibly gained some more interest in this fight to the casual fan, by having Shogun featured in the All Access. However, it would be difficult because of the language barrier. I don’t recall there ever being an All Access on a non-English speaking fighter.

I look forward to sharing some laughs tonite with Forrest at midnight.

Agreed,
we all know Shogun should take this but, it seems that there have been way to many big name upsets in the past year to count anyone “OUT”. i just hope it’s a good battle, don’t really care who wins but i’d like to see Shogun do well in the UFC (which he will)

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE BEST FIGHTER WIN PERIOD, I THINK SHOGUN IS THE BEST ALL AROUND FIGHTER, BUT I DONT COUNT FORREST OUT, I KNOW IN THE MINDS OF TRUE MMA FANS, NOT FANS THAT HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE SPORT RECENTLY DUE TO THE TUF SHOW OR SPIKE TV, BUT MMA FANS IN GENERAL. NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE WHO WATCH THE UFC KNOW WHO SHOGUN IS UNTIL RECENTLY WITH THE PROMOTION OF 76. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE FORREST PULL OFF THE UPSET BECAUSE I THINK HE HAS LOTS OF HEART AND TALENT AND BALLS MADE OF STEELE, AND A LOSS FOR SHOGUN WONT HURT HIM AS BADLY AS IT WOULD FORREST. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING FORREST CONTINUE TO FIGHT TOP TIER FIGHTERS AND IF HE LOSES TO SHOGUN I AM AFRAID WE WILL SEE HIM FIGHT GUYS BELOW HIS LEVEL JUST FOR WINS, AND IT WOULD BE TOO LONG BEFORE WE SEE HIM FIGHT TOUGHER APPONENTS AGAIN. I’m a huge Shogun fan but I suspect Forrest will put up a better fight than most people think. He is also a great character. His all-access should be funny and I’m pumped to see what his training regimen is like.

I think this is a great matchup, not so much even, but great. Both very respected fighters. We should expect an all out brawl. Shogun is top 3 in my book, but the attitude of the underdog is what makes me pull for Griffin. I’ll bet on Shogun, but root for both. See you in Aneheim.

..they had an all access Babalu..in Rio..they can for sure do one for SHOGUN..well maybe because he has never fought in the UFC b4..I don’t recall ever seeing an UFC all access on a fighter who still hadn’t had his first fight in the UFC.

They shoulda did the all access show about Shogun. Anyone that has ever watched the UFC knows who Forrest is. Im surprised that the UFc isnt trying to introduse him to the UFC fans that dont know who he is.

In the commercial for UFC 76, they show all of shogun’s PRIDE highlights. I dont know why they dont show how he destroyed Rampage in the commercial. For those who dont know who shogun is, the ass whooping he put on Rampage will make you an instant fan of his.

Shogun is got a great chin, and supperior ju jitsu. With that said I dont see any ways for Forrest to is

BWAHAHAHAHA! KO power cuz he knocked out Elvis? Who hasn’t? Also, Shogun’s stand up defense is SO bad that he’s never been knocked out. Now that’s awful. What a glass jaw…

C’mon know. Since coming to the UFC, Forrest has 7 fights with 1 KO. He’s not exactly known as a knockout artist around these parts. Shogun has 13 fights in PRIDE FC, and only has 1 loss to HW Mark Coleman where he suffered a freak broken arm when getting wrestled to the ground in the first minute of the first round

Well I have to say I was a big fan of PRIDE. But so far the PRIDE fighters have really not done so well. I think you also need to factor in the octagon as well. Forrest needs to keep his head and he’ll be fine. Shogun won a whole lot of fights via foot stomps which we won’t be able to do in the UFC. But the guy is dangerous in everyway?

What has happened to Mark Hunt? Maybe he’ll wind up in Cuban’s camp.

ummm…Mr Jitters…2 former Pride fighters are current title holders, even though Hendo fought in the UFC long ago he is mainly know for his Pride performances, the only 2 guys who have done bad is Mirko and Herring. Now Shogun has fought in cages before under real close to UFC rules…when he fought Babalu….so he shouldn’t be too new to it like Mirko. I still want Forrest to win though because a lot of Pride fans are obnoxious!!!

The UFC isn’t marketing the Shogun fight to its best potential. Out of all the Shogun highlights they show in the UFC76 commercials, they dont Show Shogun destroy Rampage. If I didnt know who Shogun was, showing me how he demolished Shogun would definitly get me to buy the Pay per view.

The only thing I can think of, is that Rampage is a UFC posterboy in the making, and maybe they dont wanna tear down is aura to market Shogun.

The only thing I can think of, is that Rampage is a UFC posterboy in the making, and maybe they dont wanna tear down is aura to market Shogun.

When they marketed Mirko Cro-Cop the only thing they showed of him, was his croatian flag with his name infront of it. At least they are showing Shogun Rua in a clip.

They reason why they are pushing Forrest over Shogun, because the new era of MMA fans do not know the face of Shogun Rua. They know and love the face and personality of Forrest, so if they push him, they also push Shogun.

Also it is very hard to market a guy who does not speak english. Look at the champions today. Randy Couture and Rampage are the most well known champions, then Sean Sherk (for the wrong reasons) then Matt Serra because of his underdog victory, his apperence as a coach on TUF and his fued with Matt Hughes.

Then the last one Anderson Silva is the least markatable fighter because he does not speak english. Anderson Silva is one of the most exciting fighters in MMA and the fans are now on the Silva bandwagon like crazy, but since he does not speak english it hurts his marketing ability.

Same with Shogun and Wanderlei. They are not strongly marketed because they do not speak fluent english. Its hard to market somebody when you have to hear a translator in the back. Shogun might get pushed when he fights Jackson if he wins, just because it is a rematch. But Rampage will be more marketable because everybody loves Rampage.

Forrest has a real good chance of defeating Shogun. If it makes it out of the 1st round.. Watch Out Forrest. The fight always starts off on the feet, and Forrest looked very cautious and he picked his spots.

Plus look at all Pride Fighters (with the exception of Anderson Silva) all of them has had Cage Fright.. Shogun might get it too infront of a crowd in America, because he is going to want to please the fans and put on a performance and might over train and might get sloppy and might get caught.

forrest is going to have to train his ass off,the last i heard from the couture camp forrest was at 240lbs.shogun has never shown outward signs that he’s ever been on steriods so i don’t know what you’re talking about.shogun has had plenty of big fights and wins besides rampage. i also would’nt call a ko against sinosec,ko power or even any big deal at all. as far as bonner goes,he should have also lost the decision to jardine,so a win over him is no big deal.it seems obvious to me that you might have seen maybe one shogun fight. Forrest is a tough guy with a good chin but he has never fought the likes of shogun and he’s going to regret calling him out. i like forrest alot, but a couple decisions over bonner, a ko of sinosec and i believe he should have gotten the decision over ortiz but that still doesn’t prepare him for a fight with shogun. i hope forrest learns alot from this fight, because that and abig loss will be all he takes from this fight with shogun!

do you even know what the outward signs are to look for when someone is juicing?just because they didn’t test doesn’t mean the fighter is juicing. most of them actually care about what they put in their bodies. we’ll see after he beats the shit out of forrest and then gets tested. shogun doesn’t display the normal outward signs of being on steroids.

Out of 16 wins he has 13 knockouts. How much more of a killer do you have go be? Did you see him go through Rampage like he wasn’t even there? Griffin’s skills are way below Shogun’s and I don’t see him getting past the second round. But he has a punchers chance like any fighter does. My prediction is Shogun by ref stoppage due to strikes in Rd 2…but in this crazy year nothing would really surprise me.

You would think by now that you guys would understand that ANYTHING can happen. How many favorites have been beaten in the past year alone? The unstoppable Cro-cop has been humiliated twice in the past six months! On paper, Shogun should dominate this fight…But they still have to fight the fight. I’m a Shogun fan as much as many of you, but I still respect Forrest enough to know that he has a lot of heart and could catch him. Will it happen, 95% not, but Gonzaga was not supposed kick Mirkos’s head off either.

I also remember silva killing Rampage, but so what, that was then, this is now.

The one guy I can see hyping up is Fedor, that guy is a beast, but then again. Put him against cotoure or better yet before he gets that fight, put him agianst the “PitBull” and see how he manages or even Kongo.

I just watched the Shogun/Rogerio Noguiera fight…Wow! That was a war! I have seen several of Shogun’s other fights, but never seen his chin tested like that. He took numerous hard shots during that fight, and even went down from a couple, but he just wouldn’t quit.

I don’t really like Shogun, simply because I’m a big fan of Rampage…but I have to give it to him, the guy is a bad ass. However, Little Nog did show that Shogun’s punch defense is not very good. He just relies on hitting you more than you hit him. I think that Forrest’s only shot is to keep the distance and out-box him. Forrest does NOT want to end up on the ground with this guy.

I think Forrest could suprise everyone. The pride guys don’t have a great record of coming into the UFC and having a great showing their first time out. Even Rampage looked like crap agaist Marvin Eastman on his first UFC event. Then CroCop loses, Dan Henderson loses.. Sure Nogueira beat Herring by Unanimous Decision but that fight was another stinker.

If I was going to have to fight a top pride guy I’d want to be their first fight inside the cage, I think it gives you a far better chance.

I’m not saying Henderson / Rampage wasn’t a fight, I’m saying that the track record of Pride fighters and their first fights inside the UFC have not been fantastic.

As for the Herring / Nog— seriously, that fight went the distance.. not being able to put away Herring don’t earn Nog any credit with me.

Even Herring, another Hyped Pride fighter lost his first fight in the UFC to Jake O’Brien—

If I’m wrong and anyone can think of a Pride Fighter who came into the UFC and dominated their first fight please remind me.

Anderson Silva knocked out Chris Leben in 46 seconds.

Ok, I’ll give you that one, even though Silvas last fight in Pride was in 2004 some time, against Ryo Chonan, in which he lost. He didn’t come to the UFC until Mid 2006, after fighting for over a year on the Cage Rage cards before coming to UFC. I guess my arguement is Cage Fight expierence helps.. Its totally diffrent than Prides Ring, which I think can throw off even the most seasoned fighter. Silva was dominant, but he didn’t come from Pride, he came from Cage Rage.

JUST BECAUSE RAMPAGE HAS A COUPLE OF FIGHTS IN THE UFC IT DOESNT MEAN HES FROM THE UFC HE CAME STRICTLY FROM PRIDE. NOT THAT I LIKE HIM OR ANYTHING JUST TRYIN TO PROVE A POINT.

Exactly. For some so-called MMA “fans”, anything that happened before TUF 1 does not count.

Just to point out, SHOGUN IS ONLY 25!! He’s younger than GSP for goodness’ sakes! I doubt he goes undefeated in the UFC, but he has the ability to have a Tito Ortiz-like run in the LHW division.

I never said Rampage was ‘from the ufc’ in fact I pointed out his first UFC fight he looked like crap against Marvin Eastman. My point is simply that. Fighters who came directly from pride, meaning there last fight was in pride and there next fight was in the ufc, their first fight inside a cage has not gone well for any of them, with the possible exception of Anderson Silva, bue he did have a year in Cage Rage to adjust to fighting in a cage.

I don’t really care where they got their start, I’d say anyone who has only had fights in a ring will require a period of adjustment to fight well in a cage. Pride Fighters have have been showing that their first fights after leaving the Ring for the cage have not been impressive showings.

I love the fact when anyone tires to point something out someone always dismisses it with “anything that happened before Tuf 1, blah blah”.

ANDERSON SILVA!

chris leben said,“i’m going to send anderson silva back to japan where the competition might be a little easier.” leben lasted how many seconds, 14 or close to that! then silva destroy’s franklin, then he destroys, lutter and marquart. i’d say ANDERSON SILVA is a former pride fc who’s had success and made an immediate impact on the UFC, wouldn’t you say? also there’ll be more, possibly FEDOR,SHOGUN,WANDERLEI SILVA. time will tell, give the pride fighters time to fight in a cage, with totally different surrondings, and with such high expectations placed on their shoulders.they’ll show alright!

Mirko Cro Cop only had one good fight in the UFC, and it was in his FIRST fight.

Rampage also had a KO win in his first fight in the UFC, but he did have just one fight inbetween PRIDE and UFC. He fought in the WFA against Matt Linland. But he basically came from PRIDE.

And Shogun looked very impressive in his KO win over Forrest.

Oh wait, that last one didn’t happen yet.
