Diego Sanchez: 'I'm going to attack' Jon Fitch at UFC 76

Diego Sanchez
Props: Houston Chronicle
Quoteworthy:

"He's never fought a guy that's going to press the pace that I'm going to press Sept. 22. I'm going to cut him off. There will be no running. There will be no chess game. I'm going to attack like you've never seen me attack before."

Diego Sanchez is ready to attack (like a lion?) his welterweight opponent, Jon Fitch, at UFC 76: "Knockout" on September 22 from The Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Fitch is going to have a hell of a time against Sanchez. He’s coming off a loss and he looked pretty determined during the GSP/Koscheck fight.

I DONT BELIEVE IT! HELL THE ONLY ATACKING YOU DID AGAINST KOS WAS AT THE WEIGH IN!!! If Diego does decide to attack Fitch hes gonna get submitted or beat down realy early!! Even if he does try to attack, once Fitch defends it over and over, Diego’s gonna get frustrated…stop attacking..and get his ass handed to him like a little BIOTCH!!

Diego realized that he lost to KOS because he didn’t atack. Fitch is going to have his hands full. Diego has beaten some quality fighters and is ready to be back.

lol. Im rooting for Fitch. Diego is such a tool. The guy claims to be this mind, body, and spirit guy and then shoves KOS at the weigh ins. What a bum. He cant fight. His boxing is still the worst even after taining with some of the best boxers EVER IN HISTORY!!!! If that doesnt help you diego nothing will.

I hope Fitch knocks him out making Diego cry again, and then Jon Fitch proceeds to bang his ring girl feonce in the middle of the cage on top of Diegos out cold body. Diego should really go to WEC or maybe stick with smaller shows like at the local ringling brothers show or something.

Just the thought of Diego succeeding in MMA gets me steamed. Guy is trash.

Fitch has beaten Thiago Alves, Josh Burkman and Brock Larson, who are all pretty impressive guys. Admittedly not on the same level as Karo or Nick Diaz, but certainly better than Brian Gassaway and John Alessio. This is probably going to be a nasty, knock-down, drag-out affair that’s got “Fight of the Year” written all over it. Nobody can seriously think they can intelligently predict the winner of this fight. Can’t wait.

Diego beat Florian when florian was a mismatched welterweight. Karo was a close fight and Riggs was his most impressive fight. Now to say Fitch has not fought any notable opponents is [incorrect]. Not only has he fought them but hes won in impressive fashion…Roan Carneiro, Luigi Fioravanti, Thiago Alves, Josh Burkman, Brock Larson, Shonie Carter, Kuniyoshi Hironaka. Plus Fitch is on a 13 fight win streak.

I’m calling it, this fight is going to steal “Fight of the Night”.

by AT on Sep 10, 2007 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

he almost talks like a robot like "im going to attack, im going cut him off, there will be no running, there will be no chess game, i will destroy him – diego, what are talking about? jon fitch is the type who doesn’t run off and what do you mean there will be no chess game? this is ufc/mma, not some guys fighting on big ass chess board in the cage. if you keep thinking like “im going to destroy him” without focusing on the gameplan, this could lack your confidence which is bad and could lead to mistakes. don’t underestimate fitch, he is a strong and tuff motherf*cker to fight, i heard kos training with him and he said “he’s very strong” so i believe he is stronger than kos. you lost that fight to kos and now fitch is much stronger opponent to fight than you did with kos, so i think fitch will win this one.

by gorelord on Sep 10, 2007 4:21 PM EDT reply actions

This probably will be the fight of the night and be another controversial decision, I could see it being close and going back and forth.

For those who point to Diego’s loss to KOS, remember he had staph. So badly, in fact, that before they knew it was staph they were about to throw in the towel on his career. External staph infections are easier to spot for obvious reasons. You get a staph infection inside of you, good luck. It’s a good thing they caught it. It didn’t just save his career; it saved his life.

To say that Sanchez will walk through Fitch is silly. But to say that Fitch will walk through Sanchez is just as silly. Both guys are tough as nails.

This will be a great fight. Can’t wait to see it. I’m looking forward to this fight more than any of the other fights on the UFC 76 card.

by MMACrossfire on Sep 10, 2007 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

Diego will beat Fitch hopefully so he can avenge his loss to Kos. Let’s see Kos beat him when he’s not half dead from staph infection. Anyone who thinks that was the true Diego fighting against Kos in that fight has obviously never seen him fight before. His boxing is way better than that, next time he’ll force Kos to take him down and just like last time he’ll take Kos’s back in like 2 seconds. War Diego!

by Ixian on Sep 10, 2007 4:27 PM EDT reply actions

I hope this is the old Diego. Don’t know alot about Fitch, but do know that if the “true” Diego is in there he’s gonna be next to impossible to beat. IMO

i can’t wait for this fight, i love diego and am a big fan of fitch’s as well…i’m gonna be pulling for diego, i think he has what it takes to beat fitch as long as he does what he says and stays on the attack…this fight can certainly go either way, i see it going the distance and being a close decision…i’m gonna say diego wins 29-28

by tha spida on Sep 10, 2007 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

If both guys bring it, its gonna be a similar fight that Diego/Karo was, up and down… Diego’s striking sucks, but his dirty boxing is underated… Fitch is decent at standup, and good on the ground, but im sure he’ll try to keep it standing for this one, Diego is too slick on the ground and is attack is vicious… All I want is a great fight from 2 of the top guys out there… to tough to call, and too good to miss… with Diego, love him or hate him, your probably gonna watch because he [usually] makes the fight exciting.

This fight is too tough to predict. It can easily go to a decision. I will definetly be rooting for Fitch. But for some of you that think Fitch will submit Diego r out of your minds.
Fitch might ground n pound diego, but no way will he submitted, and this is comming from the biggest Diego haters in America.

I hope Fitch beats the crap out of Diego and if Diego brings those mariachi’s out with him, I hope Fitch beats them up too!

All jokes to the side this will b a war. I dont know who will win but I know hwo Im rooting for.

diego beat florian when they where middleweights you retard. and diego was on a 17 fight win streak. do the math, its better than 13.

by sparxx on Sep 10, 2007 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Since the staph was such a huge factor (according to most of the Diego lovers here)in his loss to KOS, then do you think it did any permanent damage to Diego? If so then Diego may never be the Diego of old. I think Fitch is on a roll and that it will take a lot more than a mad charge in round one to defeat him. That’s not much of a plan Diego. I’ll go with Fitch. Yes, fight of the night, all the other matches are lame.

by MrFye on Sep 10, 2007 7:34 PM EDT reply actions

Well he’d better do what he says after that fight with Kos, that is if wants people to keep supporting him.

by jae_1833 on Sep 10, 2007 9:10 PM EDT reply actions

Diego is going to come out all over the place and get caught. Fitch can physically impose his will on him IMO.

I don’t feel too bad for Diego getting his second straight loss. He’ll have Ali at his bedside in the hospital.

by Silo on Sep 10, 2007 9:30 PM EDT reply actions

Diego is going to win this fight. Fitch looked like crap in the first round of that fight with Carneiro. He almost got choked out like 10 times. However i dont think that Diego is going to walk through him,I’m predicting split decision and fight of the year.

Two words…

Karo – Diaz.

Those are one of my two favorite Diego fights.

The ground game in those fights was nuts. Diego beat Diaz handily. What blew me away was the Karo fight. I thought for sure that Karo would Judo and ground his way to a victory but Sanchez went as far as to knock his tooth out…Crazy.

THIS is the Diego Sanchez I hope to see. If this Sanchez arrives at UFC 76, Fitch is done for. He has yet to fight anyone at this level.

If Diego’s to exhausted after pounding Ali, then that is a different story. :) Lucky bastard.

Fitch didnt exactly look great on the ground against Carneiro, BUT He definitely has better hands then Diego AND Fitch maintained his composure better then 90% of the fighters out there after losing the first round pretty bad last fight against a TOP TALENT in the JJ world. Im going with Fitch, but not by much. Diego can lay and pray if he can control Fitch… Its like I said though, shame this isnt a 5 round fight. This fight is prolly going the distance.

by Luppers on Sep 11, 2007 8:09 AM EDT reply actions

when diego is “on” he is one of my fav. fighters due to his action. Fitch is another one of my favorites. that being said, the drama that will play out if sanchez wins is greater than if fitch wins. it would bring sanchez one step closer to facing the guy that ran him out of his own town—GSP. From a marketing stand point expect a close decision to go to sanchez.

Man you have some serious hate, your not Koscheck or an ex boyfriend of the girl he dating are you?
I have never had s problem with Diego, he’s weird and a bit wacky at times, but I find it entertaining and harmless. To say he cannot fight is ridiculous. He is one of the best and most exciting fighters to watch in the division. The hate you have for him seems to be clouding that fact. I cannot stand Koschek becuase of his arrogant manner and attitude, but I would never say he couldn’t fight when it is blatantly obvious the guy has talent and skill.
I am a big fan of Diego’s, the Karo and Diaz fights are two my best fights ever. He is relentless in the octogan and is always out to do damage and try and put on a good show. I am not really new to MMA, but to be honest I do not know much about Fitch at all. From what I’ve read it should be good fight. I am hoping Diego wins, and continues to put on some great performances like he has done in the past.

by ade on Sep 11, 2007 8:32 AM EDT reply actions

maybe you haven’t seen any of the other diego fights, its funny guys like you like to judge fighters on their worst fights instead of their career as a whole…

Funny that is exactly what I was thinking. I am not a huge Diego fan especially after he beat Karo and Diaz, who are two of my favorite fighters. A game Diego like after he won the Tuf show, I think is an incrediblly gifted, natural fighter. IMO had he came out like that Diego of old and the minus the Staf, against Kos the last time we would all be singing a different tune, and I dislike both of them for the most part. You know his wins have been against A LEvel Fighters. To comapre Fitch’s wins, all B-Level fighters, to diegos is nuts. Diego has beat a whos who in that division in his short career with the UFC. I am not talking away from Fith either because I do like him and hoping he wins this fight. Even Koschecks road to the top of that division was against a bunch of B-level mma fighters, compared to Diegos road to the top. A fighter has one poor showing and all of a sudden that becomes the base for his career. Amazing like GSP. He beat everyone, Trigg, Hughes, BJ Penn, and Karo, makes a mistake to Matt Serra reulting in a Flash knock out, and everyone is ready to pack it in on him. GSP is Done, he is no longer the future, USA USA go MAtt Hughes. People need to look at the big picture when looking at a fighter, not just one poor performance. I think Diego’s loss to Koscheck was an eye opening experience, and he is coming back like a caged animal to get back atop that division again…

by Monkey on Sep 11, 2007 9:14 AM EDT reply actions

I would love to see the old Diego show up but I am afraid he will pull a bisping and be over-whelmed. No doubt this is the fight to watch that night.

I wanna see either one pull out a decisive win, but I dont think thats gonna happen. I will be on the edge of my seat.

I would like to see fitch win then go for Karo… With the winner getting a shot at the title.

Josh Burkman and Carter are no jokes and anyone who beats Them is worth being up fighting top guys. I wonder if the UFC put this fight together to Pump Fitch or to give Sanchez a easy rebound… If they thought the latter they are mistaken.

I really hope the old Diego shows up. The one prior to the Koscheck fight. Diego fought a very, very conservative fight. He was not pressing the action and chose to counter the entire fight. IMO, he was giving kos’s wrestling too much respect. He needed to trust his JJ and not be afriad to mix it up. IMO, he has learned from his mistake. Expect a much more determined Diego to come after Fitch from the opening round,ie Nick Diaz fight.

I know Fitch is an animal himself. I expect a back and forth battle, but the Nightmare will reing supreme and cause all you haters to change your tune.

Fitch has got the fight of his life coming up and somehow I don’t think he realizes just how tough diego is, he definitely isn’t just another opponent and will be by far his toughest to date. Diego will be more determined that ever before, one loss is terrible to him…. two in a row, unthinkable, he’s going to fight like he’s fighting for his life in this one, guaranteed.

Fitch is a bigger/stronger guy. He finishes more fights.

Fitch is a better wrestler and a better striker than Sanchez as well.

If Diego puts out this relentless attack, Sanchez can leave himself open to be KO’d.

Sanchez is kind of a weird guy but I really think he’s one of the top contenders even though he lost to Kos. It’s also a big chance for Fitch to go up against a top contender and establish his place in the weight class. Both guys will be well prepared and determined and both guys will bring it.

I can’t wait for this one! It’s going to be close.

My money would be on Fitch.

Anyone who thinks Diego will walk through Fitch garners no respect from true fans. I think Fitch is going to give Diego the beating of his life, but I would never predict that as a certainty. Fitch is bigger, stronger, better on his feet, just as good on the ground and never underestimates his opponents. Diego’s a great fighter (I’m not a Diego hater like many are by the way), and that’s why it’s a big fight. NO EXCUSES if Diego loses!

Man,
I am absolutely astonished with the way Deigo goes after opponents like in a street fight, with the toughness of a champion, but Josh Fitch is not Joke. I seen him fight, hes a real stud. Diego let down a million-trillion fans by not just using that Killer Brutality and trying to go for a early 90’s De La Hoya knock-out that never happened. Diego is an AZTEC worrier by heart, nature, and evolution. Josh is a good fighter but will be mentally broke down with Diego’s furiousity. Plus, Deigo doesn’t get tired. I’m predicting a all out bloody war between the two that will end with a the Ref stepping in to stop Josh from getting too many hits to the dome that could end his career. It’s fun to beat an opponent down to the grown. I should now, ask some body.
