UFC Quick Quote: 'Expect an absolute barn-burner' between Babalu and Heath at UFC 74

"I think you can expect an absolute barn-burner. Babalu doesn't have much back up in him and I don't have any in me, so you're going to see two guys go out there very hungry and try to do their thing.... Hopefully I can get a knockout in the first or second round, but I'm perfectly fine if I don't. I'm perfectly happy to go out there and have a long, nasty fight just to prove that I can fight with a guy like that."
-- David Heath talks with MMAWeekly.com about his upcoming light heavyweight showdown with Ranato "Babalu" Sobral at UFC 74: "Respect" on August 25 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las vegas, Nevada. This match up is not guaranteed to make the pay-per-view (PPV) portion of the telecast.

Hmmm… if ONLY there was like an extra 30 minutes on the UFC PPV where there were no fights airing that they could squeeze this fight into. =\
I mean AT LEAST air the unaired fights on Spike just after the PPV or something. I mean that would have to give Spike tons more revenue dollors in the middle of the night that they wouldn’t have. It doesn’t even have to be produced well at that hour. You can watch on UFC.com two weeks later but then we’ve already heard who won and the excitement is gone. Plus, if I want to watch on the computer I’d just download the PPV for free illegally if they are forcing us in that direction. Give us the undercards on TV and give them to us in context of the PPV so we don’t have to hide from every fight article that tells us who won until it comes out on UFC.com.

Just look at the pictures of these two guys. How can anyone think that Heath will win? Babalu looks like a straight up serial killer, and Heath looks like he just took a sip of sour lemonade in the bathroom after getting out of the shower and flexing in front of the mirror.
As long as Babalu doesn’t put his hands down, look straight down at the matt with his head down, and run blindly towards his opponent, I see him winnning this fight. Babalu doesn’t lose 3 straight fights.

If Sobral can get it to the ground, it’s a win. If he makes the mistake of standing, even for a minute (like against Liddell) he could very well get knocked out, or in a bad position that will lose him the fight.

I’m pulling for my Gracie Barra Brother Babalu..its going to be a battle of wills..styles..aggression. I would love to see this fight aired..as well as alot of the undercard matches..can’t they just cut out some prefighthypestuff..you know all that talk..and keep action following..damn..at least show clips..highlights..fight ending moments..when there is that break in between matches.

Poor Babalu… He used to be considered a dangerous kick boxer, and now no one has any respect for his standup. I hope he goes out there and ktfo that slow mofo!

I really want Babalu get back to his winning ways. This is a tough fight to call. I’m unsure who to pick.

They may be using Babalu’s mug shot from when the cops dragged him out of a bar in the wee hours of the morning.

Babalu is gonna chew him up like bubble gum.

I agree that once this fight hits the ground that it will the end of the fight in favor of Babalu. I don’t see Heath being able to stop Babalu from submitting him in this fight.

I didn’t realize that this match wasn’t going to be aired until it was mentioned in this thread. That sucks balls man. They should cram as many of these fights in as they can. I hope we don’t have something like last time where they all went the distance and we saw minimal (4 or 5 i can’t remember) fights.

I love watching Babalu fight, but I think Heath might take this by decision.

I know Heath is the underdog here, but I have picked him to win by KO. If Babalu comes out as aggressive as his last two fights, he is going to lose very quickly. His last two fights, he lost against two very good strikers, and Heath is no slouch. It’s definitely going to be a nice payday Sunday morning.

I agree Shadyone, the last Ufc was somewhat of a disappointment. i got Heath taking it in the first minute of the first round by knockout, but that’s just the Oklahoman in me dreamin’

This fight will be very similar to Babalu vs. Wuiff. Submission by Babalu in the 2nd round.

Heath should be fighting at 185 lbs. He has a big gut on him. It would be in his best interest to go on a diet and move down a weight class.
Babalu will not lose this fight.

Hey, I like Babalu. He’s just a better submission specialist, and lacks the physique to utilize his kickboxing skills to their utmost, especially against some of the other strikers in the division. I think he has it in him to be Heath, though, somehow. I’d like to see him against Hendo or Rampage, after they get beaten by Shogun.

I REALLY think that Babalu would have to do a lot more after coming off a 2 fight KO losing streak, that he would have to do ALOT more to earn himself a fight against either Henderson or Rampage. Hendo and Page are fighting in two weeks for the first ever LHW Championship Unification bout. Do you really think that the loser would fall so far to fight the winner of an undercard fight. I sure don’t!

I don’t know if there are many wwe fans on this site, but doesn’t Heath look like a chubby Randy Orton in that pic

Yeah, Heath isn’t an underwear model and would probably do better in the thin MW division, but the guy can bring it. As much as I like Babalu, I’m not putting any money on this fight. Heath’s got too much of a shot to win.

Yeah, well that’s why they fight AFTER the staredown. Babalu would be world champion if this was just a contest of looking mean and nasty.

Does the UFC look at the polls on this web-site, because I would really like to know what fights they decide we get to see. I agree with the poll Clay vs Aurellio, this is the fight that I think will be most entertaining!!!!
I do like the idea of showing the untelevised undercard on Spike, the could call it “UFC: RELEASED!!!!”.

I would feel more confident if Babalu hadn’t been arrested. That made me wonder how seriously he is taking this fight. I hope he wins and wins decisively.

Now that the UFC is getting all these pride guys, there is little room at events for bullshit matchups. We r seeing the preliminary fights become better an better as every event passes. We r gonna miss some great fights this weekend, and it will keep happening until something changes. This is a real problem for me…. I dont chase the big names around, I am a fan of the sport, I wanna c every single bit of action from the 1st prelim to the main event. Only options is to buy the DVD or go to the show Live. This has got to change.
Aurelio is a tough fighter, and can be come a dangerous force in the UFC. I think he is a marketable fighter. But how will they ever market him, if they wont let anyone c his fights?
I used to hope for long drawn out wars when watching UFC pay per views. Now the prelims are so good, that I find myself rooting for quick knock outs in major fights, just so that hopefully they will squeeze in an extra prelim or 2.
Something needs to change cuz this sucks!

sick and tired of paying for events and not getting all the fights. Don’t know about down south but in Canada there is always one hour of dead time before the replay. This is one of the better undercards in some time. I’d rather pay more and get more. This sport is hard enough to follow avidly without the UFC keeping us from watching all the fights!

I am really rooting for Babalu. His career is at the point where he can either nosedive or start to claw his way back up the latter. THe man has fought the best of the best. Its a shame he made a horrible mistake in each of his last two fights, but I don’t want to see him crossed off. He definitely needs this win more than Heath, who never was anything special and never will be.

I’d like to see Babalu win a few and fight RUA again. That was a killer fight last time and Rua’s only true loss. I’ve got a feeling he’s love to advenge it.

And I think that Shogun would have a easy time avenging that loss. Both fighters are much different now. Babalu has been on a downslide, and Shogun has been on a meteoric rise.
The only way I see that fight ever taking place is if Forrest beats Shogun. Becuase otherwise, if Shogun wins, he gets a title shot. I really don’t think we will ever see Babalu in the title picture again. So if Shogun wins the title, these 2 would never fight again.

Now isn’t Heath a “gate keeper” kind a guy, if you can beat him you deserve to fight someone in the top 10-15. And Babalu is another for the top 5.
by UFC_FAN on Aug 24, 2007 10:37 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Babalu “used to be” top 5 “gate keeper”.

babalu is a great fighter to watch.. he has many skills that are sometimes underrated. i think that the skills he has compared with his drive to get another shot at the title will give him that extra rush.. but heath is a kind of guy that just relies on his experience and keeps babalu out of his mind.. thats an advantage too.
Can’t see a dominating point at both fighters, this is goin to be a nice fight to watch, hard to predict.
ufc47 is good card, but there are more good cards coming up.. im looking forward to see cheik kongo again and especialy against mirko.. good european top kickbox brawl :) but thats not yeh point here in this part.. :P
grtz
