UFC Quick Quote: George Foreman is hungry for more ... UFC

"I love the UFC. I love it. If they had had that back when I was coming up, in 1966, it would have been my sport. Man, I love it. And you know what? Nobody would have pulled the rope-a-dope on me."
-- Professional boxing legend and former champion George Foreman tells Yahoo!Sports.com that he enjoys watching the UFC and has respect for 44-year-old heavyweight champion Randy Couture. Foreman came out of retirement in 1994 at age 45 to knockout Michael Moorer in round 10 to reclaim the title that he first won way back in 1973 against Joe Frazier.

George Foreman is a little nutty, but its great to hear a boxer lend credibility to the sport. Foreman is one of the greatest heavyweights ever. And his grills are pretty sweet too.

I’d like to see Foreman get in the octagon for one match and knock out Tim Sylvia. Would anyone else like to see that?

I would LOVE to see that. I have so much respect for George Foreman, and he always comes off as such a nice, respectful, genuine man. I love it when George Foreman is on Conan O’Brien or Jimmy Kimmell. Once he gets going with one of them two, he is hysterical.
I will always wish nothing but the best for Good Ol’ George Foreman.

Funny how some of the old school boxing advocates have publicly knocked MMA. Yet here is Foreman — one of their heroes — and LOVES the UFC! Gotta love it.
I’ve always liked Foreman. I was a young man when he came out of retirement. Never saw the fight, but was fired up to hear that he’d reclaimed the title.

I think more boxers like the ufc than we think they just dont want to admit it. For example bernard hopkins was bashing the ufc before his fight with winky right saying you can go to any bar and see a fight but then he comes out in a affliction tshirt and didnt randy couture a mixed martial artist start that line of clothing. I think the boxers that bash mma like but they are to scared to step in the octagon because they know they will get the crap beat out of them.

..If Tim wants to stand with him..it’s a wrap..Getting Foremans’over hand right in the face is like getting smaked in the face with a log.

..George Foreman is a legend in boxing and as we all see a supporter of our ever growing mainstream sport of MMA. With more of these iconic figures expressing their opinions and positions on MMA..even if its good or bad..its great for MMA here in the U.S., because it must be on everyone’s mind. That Jim Lampey(HBO) guy and the PTI guys love to hate MMA/UFC..and at the end of the day it makes me chuckle a bit..MMA FOREVER!!! " 10 years from we’ll still be on Top "

All George would have needed to survive in the UFC is takedown defense, cause no one would want to stand with him. He would break your face in half.

randy couture did not start affliction, he just has his own shirt with them.

What I think would be the best is if one of the UFC fighters did commercials for the Foreman Grill; wait a minute I got a better idea: how about a fighter coming out with their own line of grill. I would so buy a Couture Grill.

Foreman is just a good all around guy. Made an assload of money off his Foreman grills, and made a lot of boxing matches legendary.

I think Jon is right. Affliction started out as a denim company awhile back and im pretty sure RC had nothing to do with it. Affliction has a signature series of clothing by Randy Couture called Extreme Couture as well a series by Liddell also.

Very true Bob Jones. I saw one episode, and he gave every single invention a ‘yes’ vote, except for the one invention which was a machine where a person inserts 50 cents and a boot swings out and kicks them in the nuts.

Yeah gotta like George, real good hearted guy, imo. Wouldn’t ever want to be on the recieving end of those sledgehammers. Reclaiming the title was a great moment to watch as a fan of the guy. Go George!

I have to agree with the member that says that there are probably more boxers that like MMA and they won’t admit it. I just hope that the other style of thinking goes away. It’s as if boxers feel as though they’re taking something away from boxing by saying MMA is good. I like the fact that George Foreman spoke his mind as well. It’s good to have someone that’s respected speak out saying that the MMA world is good and not call them a bunch of neanderthals.

^^ haha he probably wakes up screaming at night “GOD DAMMIT ALI”
But yeah he could have easily been heavyweight UFC champ back at UFC 68 in place of couture no prob.

He could promote the sport and be an official spokesman if he wanted. That’s what Wayne McCullough does now. I reckon that would be pretty cool.

I would pay any amount of money to see Silvia get man handled by a real champ and a real fighter like George Foreman.
Much respect for Foreman!

He can promote his grill with UFC fighters like Travis Lutter, BJ Penn, and Tim Sylvia. They can all be eating hamburgers saying “Pounding away burgers from this grill help my pudgie physique absorb some blows in the octagon.”

Well with MMA we should have Mixed Commentators..A Boxing Guy, BJJ Guy, Wrestler Guy..All commmentating together at one event..With experts in all areas it would make for some intresting comments..;)
Goerge Foreman, Randy Couture, Renzo Gracie.just an example idea..
Yo remember the Jim Brown era??? I watch the Old School UFC broadcasting..and I just can’t help but laugh..cause it’s a trip.

I was pretty young when he came out of retirement, like 8 I guess, but I definitely remember that fight. Well not so much the fight, but how crazy the adults were going when he won. Its good to see a guy with that much talent and heart giving respect to MMA.

Sorry to get off topic, but has anyone noticed that we lost Takanori Gomi to Hero’s. Proves once again Dana is a tool. He let an unquestionable top 3 Lightweight fighter sign with another company. I dont care if Gomi wanted to stay in Japan. Everybody has got a price n once again White is to cheap to dig in his pockets to get it done.
I dont care who the LW champ is, unless we c Gomi vs. Penn II fought inside the octagon of the UFC. The winner would be the real LW champ of the world.
and please no one chime in wit those amatuer comments like they already fouight in ROTC, and that was a cage. I dont care, I already know, hell I own the freakin DVD.
Im just venting cuz Im furious to c Dana let this kid get away from him. what the hell isnt he supposed to be signed with PRIDE who is owned by the UFC? Someone please clarify this whole mess to me… cuz Im Pissed off right now
by john on Aug 17, 2007 6:08 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
john: Pride contracts were non-transferable. Some of the fighters were willing to be transfered or have new contracts negotiated, especially those who have a lot to gain by fighting in the UFC.
But Gomi is worth a lot more in Japan to K-1 than he is worth in the US to UFC. UFC does not have a monopoly right now. As such they have to act like a competing company and sign fighters based on what they bring to the company, rather than just snatching up all the fighters regardless of cost.
Gomi is worth a lot more to K-1 than to the UFC, so they were unquestionably willing to pay him more than the UFC. Its just and fair for all parties in question.

It’d be very hard and expensive to get Gomi. K-1 is based in Japan, where Gomi is a star. In America, Gomi is a nobody. The only fight Americans have seen is Gomi vs Diaz, if that. In order to get him to fight in a foreign country where he’s unknown instead of a promotion based in his own country where all his fans are, it’d probably cost UFC a ton of money.
That ends up being negative on two fronts. One, it’d be a disproportionately large salary compared to what the other top UFC fighters are getting paid, and they would rightfully be upset about it. Two, the UFC would probably end up paying more moeny to hire Gomi than Gomi makes in revenue for the UFC.
It sounds strange to say this about a top fighter, but he just isn’t worth it. It’s a free market, and Gomi is getting an offer from K-1 that the UFC simply cannot compete with.

FOREMAN IS PURE CLASS.
HE COULD SAY THAT BOXING WAS GREAT AND ALL THAT, BUT INSTEAD HE JUST EXHIBITS CLASS AND SAYS HE ENJOYS THE SPORT.
COOL GUY, CHRISTIAN GUY TOO.

Michaelthebox: You made some accurate points that make a lot of sence. I wrote that post as soon as I found out the news and was so pissed. When u break it down and talk about Value, u r absolutely correct, Japan cannot afford to loose him and it isnt in the UFC best interest to get in a bidding war with them especially since we got bigger fish to Fry(FEDOR)

It is absolutly great to here this from a boxing legend like Foreman, all the boxers that have nothing good to say about MMA now their opinions are insignificant, they will just have to accept MMA is the best combat sport in the world and will stay that way from now untill the end of time.

Foreman vs. Kimbo
Foreman has to do better then ray mercer did
Does anyone think we will ever c KIMBO in the UFC. He is a novice at the sport, and far from being ready for the UFC at this point in his life. However, I hear Bas Rutten has been training Kimbo, a year or 2 wit Bas n who knows what kind of fighter he can become. Who wasn’t surprised to c him beat mercer via guillatin?
Note: This is a far fetched scenario but possible, because unlike other “freakshow” fighters like Bob Sapp who weighs 300 lbs. Kimbo weighs 260 lbs, and could easily be within the weight limit to fight in the UFC heavyweight division.

Foreman is a class act. Very comical guy to see interviewed and I’ve not seen him dis anyone on camera. Comments like his about the world of MMA and UFC are what’s needed, not a load of bulls**t from stupid boxers who know nothing about the sport, not mentioning any names FLOYD the mardy little prick, just cos they KNOW they’d be OWNED 100% if they had the balls to get in with an MMA guy instead of talking shite.

Actually since Nick Diaz beat Gomi, (I STILL don’t understand why it wasn’t a title fight???), he should be considered the current PRIDE LW champion.
