Martin Kampmann sets his sights on early 2008 return

Quoteworthy:
"The injury is getting better. But slowly and still a long way to go. I've started boxing again, but still no grappling or wrestling yet. Don't have full range of motion in the knee and still lacking muscle, but working on it in rehab. I hope I can return to fighting in the beginning of the new year. I miss it a lot and can't wait."
Kampmann is rehabbing a knee injury that he sustained during training prior to his scheduled bout with former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin at UFC 72: "Victory" in June. He boasts a perfect record inside the Octagon with wins over Crafton Wallace, Thales Leites and Drew McFedries.

Bah…I guess it will be good to have another decent fighter in the division when he gets back. Hope he gets back to contender form upon return.

Yeah, Kampmann is no joke. Not gonna predict he takes the belt or anything, but Leites and McFriedes are two tough competitors. Wins over them definitely speaks volumes about Kampmann’s talent.

McFedries was beating up on him till it hit the mat, but he showed good heart pulling off the sub.

He has a great chin and standup plus he can submit very well .. I thought he was going for mount on Mcfederies but hopped right over too side choke , was very very smooth ..
I think this guy and possibly Mcfederies will both get title shots if not champs one day.

Yeh he was really getting destroyed by mcfedries, he showed warrior spirit in weathering the heavy mcfedries storm to finish the figh with a nasty arm triangle.
Hell kampan aint the greatest fighter but compared to other fighters at 185 he looks amazing. That division is the trash of the UFC and its a shame because it boasts one of the best and most exciting champion that the UFC has at this point.
Hendo, Misaki, get someone in this damn divisioln

Instead of the stupid TUF season featuring Welterweights which is the most stacked division in tghe UFC, how about u do a middleweight TUF. WW division is so good that whoever wins the season wont be considered for a title(if all goes well in his career) till about the year 2011
TUF would be most useful for a 185 lb season. Get 16 middleweights and lets pray that one of them becomes a star cuz that division is weeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkk!

My initial reaction was yeah, who cares? But the guy did look impressive in his fights and it’s too bad he got injured. People have to separate out this Brandon Vera holdout crap versus someone not fighting because they are injured. Although if that injured person happens to hold a belt like Sean “Needle cheeks” Sherk, that pisses everyone off.

I do. The middleweight division is really weak. Kampmann is a great fighter who is undefeated in the octagon. UFC needs more middleweights like him. I can’t wait for him to return!

I don’t know if you have seen his fights or not, but this guy has a wicked chin, is a pretty good boxer himself, and the Arm Triangle he pulled was pretty wicked (Went from side control, and passed up mount to get side control on the opposite side and secure a sick Arm Triangle). I’m pretty impressed with this guy. I thought he stood a chance against Rich Franklin. Who knows, if he would have beaten Franklin, you might be seeing Kampmann vs Silva for the belt at 77. Then you would care if he was there or not.

jjdnb, Martin Kampmann is a skilled striker that also posseses submission skills. He is undefeated in the octagon. He is an exciting fighter. And he fights in the weakest and most boring division of the UFC. So as a matter of fact, I really do care if he comes back. In case you didn’t know, Kampmann was the one that was supposed to fight Rich Franklin, not Okami, to be the #1 contender to fight Anderson Silva at the upcoming PPV. But due to injury, he had to pull out.

TUF 7 almost has to follow your advice. Its pretty obvious that it is the weakest division.

I care!!! For Kampmann that is. This weight class needs all it can get. Need some good healthy fighters.
Paulo Filho would be my first pick.
Then encourage little LightHeavyWeights that are good to drop.
Kendall Grove is up and comming and if he wins his next fight he should be looked at as a real contender.
Wish Kampmann a speedy recovery and would like to see him in a good ground fight with knowledgeable opponent.

If TUF 7 isn;t about middleweights. Then some decision makers will need to be fired. 185 lb’ers r exciting fighters, y does the UFC contionue to ignore them.

Gotta get Hendo down to 185… he’ saying he will stay at 205 cuz the $ is a little better, Dana better make the money equal for Hendo at 185, because as of right now the only 185 lb title fights that would excvite me would be:
Anderson vs. Hendo
Anderson vs. Filho
Anderson vs. Lindland (wont happen cuz matt n Dana hate each other
All these other title fights we c at 185 r fun to watch becasue anderson silva is so damn exciting but come on lets be serious. Dana tried to sell us Anderson vs. Lutter as a title fight. Come on man, thats a disgrace to the middleweight title. Thank God for Anderson Silva
Yes kendall has heart and potential
Kampman is needed
Dream Match that would never happen:
Anderson Silva bulks up to 205 to fight Shogun! WOW! only in my dreams!
