UFC 77: Doug Evans out against Jorge Gurgel
Boy that was fast.
Just a few days ago we passed along news that Jorge Gurgel and Doug Evans would clash in a lightweight preliminary bout at UFC 77 on October 20 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Today, MMAWeekly.com is reporting that Evans is injured and will not be ready in time for the bout.
It's unclear at this time who will replace Evans against Gurgel. For now it's just Gurgel vs. the ultra-tough and very formidable, TBA.
We will, of course, keep you posted when the 155-pound opponent is announced. In the meantime, check out the latest UFC 77 fight card here.
The pay-per-view event is headlined by the 185-pound title fight between UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and former division king, Rich Franklin.

is this the worst ufc card ever? the gurgel v. evans fight was one of the better fights on a very weak card. i wouldn’t pay $10 to see this slate of fights.

I live in Cincinnati, and I was all happy about hearing the Silva/Franklin Rematch fight, then once the other fights started to happen, this was the only other fight I was looking foward to except for the Bonnar/Ravishing Red fight.
Jorge should fight Sam Stout, Alvin Robinson, Corey Hill or Manny Gamburyan. All of those fights would be fun to watch, Jorge needs to ebcoming more mainstream, because he is one heck of a fighter.

I think TBA is a beast and will thrash Gurgel.
I don’t think Gurgel is a “heck” of a fighter. TUF turned him into this supposed star. He barely beat Abbadi. ABBADI!
I rest my case. WAR TBA!

Because to be honest, I do not remember the last time that Jorge has been fully 100% healthy. He goes out there at 60% and when he fought Danny he is probably at 45% at best.
Jorge has one of the best BJJ in the game today, you just have not seen it in his full function.

Told ya guys Doug rejected the fight. Can’t believe it took the press three days to realize it.

Gurgle only gets fights cause he is friends with Franklin. If it wasen’t for the ACE Gurgle would be long gone from UFC cause he cant fight.

TBA is tough, but I’m not sure if he can finish a fight. We all know he’s in great cardio shape and can last 5 rounds, but he might have trouble with Gurgel’s ground game. I predict TBA by KTFO in the 1st.
Also Danny Abbadi is that man and would beat Gurgel in a remath.

I think Gurgel is a good fighter and will eventually have a real solid performance showcasing his MMA skill set.

Jorge Gurgel vs Sam Stout sounds like a good matchup to me.
But damn, why do so many upcoming UFC cards suck ostrich testicles?
