UFC Quick Quote: Cote predicts quick finish of Grove at UFC 74

Patrick Cote

"I'm sure I'm 10 times more powerful than him [Kendall Grove], so I'll go there and do my stuff. I'm very, very confident about all my skills for this fight. I will test his chin, I will test his cardio and I will test all of his skills. When the bell rings, that will be a hell of fight. Trust me ... for the next fight, before the bell to end the second round, the fight will be done."

-- Canada's Patrick Cote tells FightHype.com that he will stop Hawaii's Kendall Grove less than 10 minutes into their scheduled middleweight clash at UFC 74: "Respect" on August 25. For more on this match up, including videos from "The Spyda" leading up to the bout, check out our UFC 74 archives.

Let your fighting do your talking..cause the way he hyped it up I’m expecting to see Lil’ Anderson Silva come out of him..I hope this isn’t another one of those BIG talk small fight types.

I doubt it, even though Kendall is a bit of a clown he will win this fight without much of a problem.

kendall grove has been improving greatly and he looked excellent in his last fight. cote is in for a hell of a bloodied face and a quick trip to unconciousness. kendall grove by ko

didn’t he lose a decision to chris leben? that says a lot about whether or not we’ll see a little anderson silva

You know what they say, “Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face.”. I have a feeling that’s how this is going to go. Cote says he is stronger, but when Kendal gets his legs up around Cote’s head and putting on the triangle, Cote sure as hell won’t be thinking that Kendal isn’t strong. I expect Cote to try to strike, and when Kendal is beating him down with the long range jab, that Cote will try to take him down and get caught in a submission from Kendals guard with those long legs of Kendals. Should be a fun fight to watch no matter how it turns out though.

Who really knows ? Could end up being a three roun spilt decision. I dont actually know if either can finish the fight based on how they match up …

by Kevin Kelly on Aug 9, 2007 1:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Lol, every fighter predicts they will end the fight in the first or second round. Then when they lose, we get to hear about all their injuries coming into the fight.

Cote needs to put on a better performance than he did against Smith, man that fight was a snooze.
I like Cote but I think that he hasn’t had much luck in the UFC, both in the wins department and on fights worth remembering.
I haven’t seen him at any of the Canadian events (TKO etc) but I have read that he’s done really well so I wonder if he’s a lot more relaxed and more exciting at the smaller shows…
Anyone seen Cote at any of the smaller Canadian events?

Cote’s got to be kidding! Did anyone see his fight against Steve Smith? He had Smith in a bad spot and didn’t go in for the kill. Cote has no killer instinct. For him to claim that he is going after Grove is laughable. Good luck Cote, you are going to need it.

by Tapout Kid on Aug 9, 2007 1:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Cote is a good guy and a descent fighter, but I think Grove has the tools to put him away and further his pth of becoming one of the top 185ers. Franklin,Silva,Okami are in a whole other category but after this fight I see Grove getting into the mix with guys like Lutter and kampmann.

Scott Smith yeah. Smith is a C class fighter on top of that. He really has his hands full with Grove.

Grove by submission: rear naked choke round 1.

Watch Kendall’s fight against Chris Price to see how he has the ability to just overwhelm an opponent with kicks, knees, punches, and elbows.

I don’t any reason Kendall won’t come out like that against Cote.

Cote runs his mouth for so far being a BITCH in the Octagon.
Dont sit there and say that you are much stronger then someone that has a DRAMATIC height advantage (talk about ground game, leverage is worth more then anything else..)

Sounds like Cote is looking past Grove here. Something a fighter who hasnt put much into his most recent fights definitely shouldnt be doing… Kendall’s been nothing short of a highlight reel since he’s left TUF. Cote better come prepared or his night will definitely be a short one… Grove by sub 2:40 in the 1st…

Cote has never done anything besides drop Tito to one knee in a fight he ended up losing. All talk. Grove by submission in the 2nd round, if not the first

by Cocoanutt on Aug 9, 2007 2:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I would like to see Cote win. He has had bad luck in the octagonm but now is his time. This is make or break for Cote so I see him pulling the upset!

by Scott on Aug 9, 2007 2:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Cote is ALL BARK AND NO BITE. This guy needs to learn to shut his mouth until he gets a win inside the octagon. Winning a decision against Scott Smith doesn’t really count when its your 8th try.

I saw that fight with Leben replay recently. It could have gone either way and that was one of Leben’s best. That is still a far cry from Anderson Silva’s level.
Cote has been around for a while and seems to have maxed out while Grove steadily improves. Bet the house and toolshed on Grove!

by Mamas Boy on Aug 9, 2007 3:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Grove is going to get KTFO. Cote has to win to stay in the UFC. Grove hasn’t fought anybody yet and like many TUF fighters (Swick anyone?), he will have to learn the hard way.

by Hardcase on Aug 9, 2007 3:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Grove.

I see Kendall walking right through Cote in similar fashion to how he did against Chris Price. Elbows, kicks and knees until he’s a bloody mess on the canvas.

by ViolentMike on Aug 9, 2007 4:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Kendall Grove by submission, easily.

I saw Cote’s fight with Jason MacDonald, and at the time I was pretty impressed, but Jmac’s stand up has been clowned by RF and Chris Leban… He banged up Jmac pretty good, and avoided all Jmac’s subs, and fought out the 5 round decision. It was MFC 185 championship bout in Edmonton Alberta. Who know’s maybe he has a chance.

Patrick Cote has never lived up to his potential in the UFC. He is very similiar to Joe Riggs. They both have a ton of talent and seem to impress alot of top level sparring partners. But, when it comes to step in the octagon, Riggs and Cote haven’t been able to put it together.

Riggs made the move to bolster the WEC’s middlewieght division. I could see Patrick Cote doing the same thing. This should be a great fight. Patrick has good striking and Kendall has been knocked out twice before.

Sounds like a load of promo bollox to me. Hell they probably get a damn script for the promos. They’re all like:

“Hold on…Cut…Can I do that again, I don’t think I looked angry enough”.

i see cote first rd ko, or grove first rd submission i dont think it will be a long fight, Both have the abillity to win but will Cote actually fight 100%

by thenovemberact on Aug 9, 2007 5:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I promise you that Grove ends him by the third round. It is a joke these two will be in the same ring. Cote is average or even below average fighter.

by ventura on Aug 9, 2007 6:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i believe that it will end in the first for sure but cote will be on the losing end COME ON BRO U ONLY WON ONE FIGHT IN THE UFC

by richard on Aug 9, 2007 7:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Kendal should have the title he is the man.
I think he will put cote to sleep.

by kickbox beginner on Aug 9, 2007 7:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Even if Kendal wins, he’s got a long way to become a contender. When he beats Yushin give me a call.

by Gweedo on Aug 9, 2007 7:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Lutter is a great submission specialist. Although he made quick work of Patrick on the ground I don’t expect things to be so easy for Grove. I favor Grove to win but I wouldn’t put money on this fight. I would not be suprised in the least if Cote wins. Cote is an animal & is well rounded. He’s hard to put away.

I predict Grove in a 3 round decision. Cote will have to finish the fight to win. If he does I think it would be via ground & pound.

by Kevy B on Aug 9, 2007 7:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think this will be a fun fight to watch. In the least there will be lots of anticipation because this should be an exciting fight.

Grove will win.

Cote is so outmatched it isnt even funny. What the hell is cote talking about “I’m gonna test his cardio” (grove is team punishment, cardio is the only thing Tito does right.
Grove will be in better shape, he will use is wingspan to keep cote away, cote will get frustrated and take grove down, from there it wont take long for grove to sink a submission in.
How about the D’arce choke……..sweet

Grove by submission 2nd rd

Cote’s heart cannot match up with kendall’s heart, for that reason alone Grove will win

Training wit Randy, i gaurentee he fights better than he has ever fought in the UFC.

He went from Tito to Randy……. I expect big improvement from grove in this fight

The Guida fight should be on the main card, not this :(

I agree with John, Grove 2nd round….if Cote can last that long..

All things equal.. Kendall should come out on top. Cote has power in his hands but can be sloppy using them. He has to fight smarter and stay calm when the going gets tough (and it will). Kendall has such long limbs but he is aware of his being so tends to not leave them out and get caught. Cote has to fool him with a takedown and get off that one shot to win. Kendall has the advantage in many ways and unless Cote had a heart transplant, Kendall should be the victor.

and what is cote’s record in the ufc lol?

by Brandon Aquino on Aug 10, 2007 4:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I dont even care who wins Cote is decent and so is Grove nothing to write home about though. If i had to pick i would say prob Grove but he wont climb to far in the Div he’s in.
