It's official: CSAC suspends Hermes Franca until July 5, 2008, for steroids

hermes franca steroids suspension
Props: MMAWeekly.com

Quoteworthy:

"Despite being suspended from competition until July 5, 2008, the suspension will have no bearing on Franca being able to corner fighters. Hermes stressed the importance of being able to corner his fighters to the commission and the commission ruled that the suspension will have no affect on him obtaining a corner-man's license."

For more background information on Franca testing positive for the banned illegal anabolic steroid known as Drostanolone following his unanimous decision loss to Sean Sherk at UFC 73 click here.

Took it like a man.

Thats a long time out the cage, will he be allowed to compete in any other competition? (I assume his UFC contract would stipulate otherwise)

Stand up guy….. Now sherk stop your pussy appeals and take your suspension like a man. Time to step up sherk

I totally respect him for coming forward and admitting he took some juice. It takes a lot more to admit than to deny deny deny……..Oh my lawyer is on it.

Since this fight was in California, could he fight in Nevada? I presume they are different athletic commissions but work together and respect each others rulings/suspensions.

he said that we wanted to take some time off from fighting to train his other fighters if he lost to sherk. so i guess he got what he wanted

He technically could, but I doubt the UFC will let him, because the CSAC tends to get pissed off when organisations let fighters fight elsewhere, and letting him fight in the UFC will cause bad blood between the CSAC and the UFC, which I doubt the UFC will risk.

Stand up cheater guy. Props for admitting to it after getting caught. I wish all the juicers would get caught, but that’s a perfect world we don’t live in. Just own up Sherk!

I was disappointed to see Franca get smoked by Shrek in the title bout. To his credit he just raised his hand- like when a guy fouls in the NBA. Get it over with and move on. Franca will have to come back clean next year, win a few progressively difficult bouts and maybe he’ll get another shot at the title in 2009.

If Sherk cleans out his system all his mass will slough off and he’ll either look like fat bastard or he’ll develop hooters and become an IFL ring girl.

Really sad to see one guy fess up and admit he was wrong as well holding himself accountable while the other guy holds the the ufc and mma accountable for his actions. This reflects poorly on the sport of mma and if I was Dana I would tell Sherk listen take it like a man and lets get this out of the media already your hurting the sport, or if he is not guilty to push the hearing and get a judgment already. I hate giving any fuel to boxing to cut up mma about especially when it could completly have been avoided.

Ehhh. If he is in fact guilty, than he is only prolonging his suspension and in effect making it longer. So basically, he is only hurting himself.

Thanks for ruining the IFL ring girls for me.

agreed, sherk needs to nut up and admit to it. he’s just delaying everything. until all this gets cleared up i think the ufc should just go ahead and schedule penn vs. stevenson, or huerta,(florian and the winner of fisher thomas also would be good to fight penn)in november for the interm belt. if sherk clears his name he fights the winner for the undisputed champ, if he’s guilty then the interm champ becomes the undisputed. i really dont think they should wait for sherk.

I thought people get cynical with age but to be honest I no longer feel passionate about any sport at an elite level. Grass roots is what it’s about for me. MMA, Track and field, cycling are swimming are all tainted beyond repair for the next quarter of a century. There only remains a couple of field sports that have some amount of credibility left.

I’ll start by saying, I’m not a Sherk fan, I’m not a chemist and live in China(limited MMA broadcasting), so I wonder….

Is it possible, that if you mix the legal enhancers together and then work out like a maniac, you could show a failing test?

You guys make me laugh. You guys are biblical “Crucify Him” type of crowd.

Did you guys check out the show (I forget what its called) where the UFC makes a show based on the champions trainning style before the match, they did it with Sherk I think its called UFC All Access.

Look at how many supplements the guy takes a day (I think it was like 6 which he takes 3 times a day) it would be easy for one of them to in conjunction with another cause some chemicals in his body to spike. His trainer may of added a new supplement or replaced one with a supplement he thought was better and it resulted in those results which were only slightly above normal.

They both were on steroids yet the man showing the lower levels still absolutely over powered and dominated, which shows it was more than roids.

I don’t believe or disbelieve Sherk I’m just waiting, roids or not he trains like a beast which is what led to the victory, he has never been found positive before, which since you guys are putting so much faith in the results of this test will mean that he has never juiced before, so what your saying is he didn’t juice for GSP or Hughes future hall of famers but decided he needed the extra help against Franca. He has only been beaten by Hughes and GSP (32-2-1).

With his dedication all I say is let him make his case before you stone him.

Yup and the rules state if the chemicals in your body are over a certain level, you get punished. They were over that level, now he gets punished.

There is no real arguement.

Sherk is going to whoop up on his ass and send him back to Hilo, Hawaii to smoke his bud and hit cops. It isnt like you guys Royce Gracie this kind of treatment when he tested positive for a substance, nor did you guys bitch when Melvin Guillard tested positive for cocaine. Even if you did, none of you were doing this much bashing, but because its Sean Sherk and most of you guys are BJ fans, you want to crucify him. Get over it, he will pass his hearing like it or not.

..All this appealing and moaning and bitching makes me wonder..what the F’ is going on here?? I respect(Hermes Franca) the fighters that respect the sport. By Sherk going down this path he is clouding the minds of many..why wait?? 3 more months to settle this when you can get it over NOW..at this pace if he retains the belt he would have like 2 title defense in 2.5 years..that is BS!! Lets keep it moving..more action, more fights..more title defenses..get tested b4 you fight. MMA/UFC needs to a wake up call. Take affirmative action.

I hope you’re right. I would like to see a Sherk fight that is enjoyable. Even if he beats BJ, as long as it’s a good fight I will be happy.

Today’s spelling and vocabulary lesson of the day. The word STRIP, as a verb means: Take away possessions from someone
The word STRIPE is a marking of a different color or texture from the background. An example would be, A tiger has stripes. The word STIP is not in the English Dictionary. This completes your 1st Grade Vocabulary lesson. You both failed.

Wow, you hate BJ Penn so much that you would be fine with MMA developing a steroid epidemic? We need to stop this $#! before it starts.

-Royce no longer fights in UFC. He is not a UFC champion.

-Melvin Guillard isn’t very good, or at least well-rounded. He is not a UFC champion. Also, if people are going to stick up for Nick Diaz they don’t have any room to complain about Guillard.

-“The Muscle Shark” is a UFC champion, one who has already made a habit of long lulls between defenses. You really think the only reason people are criticizing Sherk is because they are BJ fans?

a good argument but it doesn’t change that fact that the tests came positive. What could he possibly show in his appeal that will change the facts of the test?
He is doing this because he almost has that idiot Dana White convinced that it was some mistake and maybe Dana will let him keep the belt while he is suspended. And from recent reports from Dana, he sounds like he might be willing to help Sherk out in some way or another…
Sean ‘the juice shark’ Sherk…yes crucify him and set an example for the rest of the fighters

After Sean loses his appeal if Dana lets him keep the belt or something and has an “interim champion” or some other inane bullshit like that I’ll probably quit watching it. But he can’t be that stupid since that would ruin any rep MMA has, the average joe would just figure its another form of wrestling.

That’s classic! Its a good thing you copy/pasted this post from WORD and did spell check because you would have never heard the end of it if contained a single mis-spelled word.
