UFC Quick Quote: A must-win for Babalu against Heath at UFC 74

renato babalau sobral ufc

"It's a very important fight because I have to step away from my losses and I have to come back stronger. I've lost twice, and if I lose again, I'm pretty much done. It's almost like a title shot."

-- Renato "Babalu" Sobral tells Thomas Gerbasi via UFC.com about the importance of his upcoming light heavyweight tilt with David Heath at UFC 74: "Respect" on August 25. The Brazilian -- who blames personal issues for his most recent knockout loss to Jason Lambert at UFC 68 in March -- is looking to rebound from back-to-back losses and work his way back into title contention.

I love Sobral, even if he was wearing his own t shirt when he got arrested. Hes still one of the best.

Anyone ever watch the Sobral vs Emelianenko when they were younger? I looked that up the other day and couldnt believe it.

I don’t know about anyone else, but with the current state of the LHW division, I don’t see Babalu getting back into the Top 5, never mind title contention.

And yes, I know he has a win over Shogun, but I don’t see that ever happening again if they were to fight again.

Couldn’t believe it???? They couldn’t punch in the face when down. If they were allowed to it would have been over for sobral in like 45 seconds.

I hope Sobral doesnt get KO’ed. He needs this win and i hope he gets it. I think he needs to work on some standup. He deff cant afford to get KO’ed a third time exspecially in a row. Heath can only out strike Babalu other than that there both good wrestlers and Babalu has the edge in BJJ. so heath is gonna want to keep it standing and Babalu is gonna want to take it to the ground. Heath has decent skills but i dont see him in contention for anything anytime soon if ever. Babalu if he gets some f*cking standup game could be top 5 easily again.

I couldnt believe after the beating Sobral took from Liddell he went into his next fight having learnt nothing and charged in with his hands down,he deserved to loose that last fight,if he still hasnt learnt he will get KOed again.

Sobral will win this fight. He is still good enough to be amongst the top 205ers

I like Babalu, and he needs this win. I don’t know why but I see him losing.

I don’t know how much weight Babalu cuts, but I think that he would be in the top 3 or 4 at middleweight. That is, if he could make 185.

he needs to lose the weight again and get his life back on track. he wont be around much longer and really is just being used right now for the rematch that shogun wants with him. doesnt even matter if he loses this fight or not he will fight against shogun regardless at some time in 2008. if he could ever get back down to 185 again he would be much better overall. in between his 2 loses to chuck were like 10 wins in a row but with his recent personal problems im not so sure he will bounce back.

when he is in shape he is a great fighter to watch and he has great subs but its been awhile since he has shown those skills. hope he gets back on track cause he would make a solid top 10 205’er for the ufc i just cant see him pulling himself together at this point in his life.

I see Babalu sub on heath fast…heath is too pudy to win this fight and babalu has got killer skills. I can’t wait for Sobral vs Shogun #2!!

David Heath is a HUGE underdog in this match. I am definitely putting some money on Heath. He actually has a nice shot here too.

Even if Babalu loses this one, he will definitely be down but maybe not out. Look at BJ Penn… Chris Leben… and Stefan Boner. Just like the Cubs… lovable losers.

Chris Leben.. Just like the Cubs… lovable losers.

exactly what is lovable about a guy who pisses on someone and cries like a bitch every time he gets punched out. Which is often.

is it just me or does babalu look like a coked out bam margera?

I’m glad to hear that he is training with boxers, he should have been improving this aspect of his game along time ago, along with his ground and pound. He just never seemed to punch with “bad intentions” but more to set something else up. Babalu is my favorite fighter but the rest of the field has caught up with him and bjj alone won’t do it anymore. I hope he not only wins but keeps adapting and improving his game.

If Babalu comes in at 100% he will destroy Heath, but lately the boy acts like hes got to much on his mind. I hope he wins, Babalu has always been one of my favorites

It seems like he was just mentally destroyed after the 2nd loss to Liddell. He hasn’t been the same. Have there been any updates about that recent arrest of his for trespassing and battery? That was pretty dissappointing to hear.

I don’t care, I still love him. Even if he does lose. I’d love to be his nurse and take care of him after one of his fights. Just once! Let a girl dream!

Renato Sobral should certainly win against a guy like David Heath who is a short lil dude at 5’ 11" who cant hang at LHW. Heath’s biggest win is against Victor Valimaki who himself has not won a UFC fight. If Babalu cant earn himself a victory in this spot, he may as well go teach the art of looking tough with scary eyes and bad tribal tattoos.
