Sherdog vs. UFC: Dana White responds to Josh Gross?
In the blue corner, Sherdog.com Executive Editor Josh Gross. And in the red corner, UFC President Dana White?
The other day Gross penned a tongue-and-cheek "Open Letter" to White, calling for him to fix the steroid problem in mixed martial arts. He did it, however, in a rather sarcastic and colorful tone.
Never one to be outdone, White apparently responded to Gross on an Underground Forum thread.
There's no telling if it is White 100 percent, but if it is not, he has an Internet doppelganger who sounds identical to him.
Nothing like a testy, insult-laden debate for a Saturday read.
Enjoy.

If that really was Dana’s response… hats fucking off to him. He is totally right about fanboys and their needless bullshit. Being a fan of the sport is just that, being a fan, you dont need to be critical.
Now give Chris Lytle more fights! He was clean.. =D

Baseball has been around for over a hundred years and yet they are still struggling with steroid problems. MMA and even more so UFC has only been around for about two decades. I say lets cut Dana White a break and give him time to develope a solid plan on how to handle these issue’s. He has done well in the past and I am sure he will handle this the same.

I’m curious to see if this turns out to be the same thing as the Kos comments re:Fighter paydays. Is it really Dana? If it is or isn’t, it’s still kinda funny. I like the comment about who are you to slam pro athlete’s when you haven’t done anything athletic in your life. Good point.

I agree with what Dana says but if I have an opinion about somthing I will say it whatever subject it is,but that tw*t on sherdog was just being a d*ck head,I personaly think that Dana should make an example of Sherk as he was supposed to be a champion of the sport and kick him out of the UFC for good.

saucylv33 = Beth at Zuffa so it’s him.
As I posted in the same thread over there:
Wow, Dana by complete beatdown. And whether you love him or hate him, you have to appreciate that he’s passionate enough to get involved in stuff like this and doesn’t pull any punches no matter what the topic. If he led the UFC from an ivory tower, things wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining!

Dana White is funny. What a character. Dana’s favourite slag is “That guy is fucking retarded.”
by RobH86 on Jul 21, 2007 2:43 PM EDT reply actions
It’s definitely a legit Dana rebuttal. saucylv33 works for the UFC and she’s been posting exclusive stuff on mma.tv for a looong time – even though Dana has an account on there as well, i’m guessing she posted it on his behalf – he’s probably up to his neck with paperwork, meetings etc, especially with what happened with Sherk and Franca.
I read the post when it was posted and i thought it was great, he made some great points.
Also, Dana has used the term “fanboy” plenty of times before, amongst other terms, usually directed towards sherdog and as for there not being enough swear words – it’s no surprise since most people don’t write the exact same way as they speak – also with writing you have more time to think of what you’re saying.

Wow! Front page of Yahoo. That’s a wide audience getting the dirty news of MMA and the UFC. I really hope something is done.
This just gives fuel to the folks that want to move MMA back into the underground. It infuriates me that fighters are putting their sport at such a risk.

It would be nice if an adult was in charge of the UFC. Dana comes off like a 14 year old smartass boy in that letter. There was no dignity in that response. it was unprofessional and like most of what he does lately, counterproductive. Why does he alienate Sherdog and and other UFC websites? How does distancing the UFC from popular UFC related websites help his business? Sherdog’s website is popular because its forums and inventory of fighters are user friendly and thorough. It is a superior website and he’s damn lucky someone has made it with no expense to the UFC. Why when in negotiations with the one fighter in the world who has the ability by himself to propel the UFC to another level of popularity, fedor emelianenko, does Dana call publically fedor’s handlers, “crazy russians.” why make a war with nick diaz? Dana stop making business something personal. You are on top now but you only get to make so many enemies and so many mistakes before actual business men come in, steal what you did well, but are mature enough not to make the same STUPID mistakes you are making.

“Most of these guys that fight in the UFC are my friends and I care about them. My job isn’t to smash them publicly and ruin their lives. Apparently, that’s your job. My job is to help them through whatever problems they might have- professional or personal
Tell that to Tito Ortiz, whom in which Dana White bashes at least once or twice every week.
Dana White is a joke, and I love it how everyone on that board is like “YEAH DANA! YEAH!!! YOU TELL HIM!” and nobody speaks their mind on the topic and they just bash Sherdog calling them pieces of shit. Sherdog does a good job (not as good as UFCMANIA of course) and they know what they are talking about. Dana White is just a hippocrite and he does need to clean up the UFC.
I have so much dislike for Dana White.

well. dana is a business man, he has no morals. he wants the most exciting fights to put the most money in his pockets. if that means protecting fighters (huerta, liddell, cro cop, anybody from TUF) thats what he’s going to do. we aren’t on the level of boxing yet, but its headed there, the natural progression of things.
i pointed out before how quick he was to belittle the guys from tuf 5 who got into a scuffle, and verbally ban them from the ufc. but here he gave a bland diplomatic response to the testing positive of steroids in the ufc.

And the responsibility doesnt just rest on Dana’s shoulders its each and every fighters responsibilty. You cant sit here and blame Dana for not cleaning the sport up cuz Dana aint the one using F*cking steroids. The athletic commisions and the UFC are doing the best they can to discourage Steroid usage. They dont want the negative backlash of UFC fighters testing positive for Steroids its just not good business bad mojo. Like him or hate him Dana white has done alot for MMA and the UFC.

As much as I do not like Dana White, I agree I respect him for all that he has done for MMA and the UFC in general but as a person I do not like him. Tito Ortiz and Dana White yes do have a personal grudge and both have verbally came out and bashed each other, but still Dana is a partial owner and the figure of the UFC, he should act with more class and just not make everything verbal about his dislike for Tito and the name calling of Tito. I mean could you imagine Bud Selig calling Barry Bonds a big headed steroid abusing player? That would just make Bud look really bad and cause a negative effect on the game of baseball.
I know Tito is partial to blame for the outburst of Dana, but still Dana is the owner and should act like it and not call out his fighters who call him out infront of press, they should just take it behind doors.
But that is the kind of person Dana is.
I know that the UFC is nothing but humans fighting and nothing will ever be perfect in the UFC and occurences like this may always happen. But Dana White is a very pivotal piece to help calm down the useage of Steroids in MMA. He could call all the guys together and explain to them, you take steroids you could possibly be banned from the UFC for I dunno 3 years? You know something amungust the lines of that. Or tell them no matter how much they fight, they wont get a title shot unless the pass a years worth of drug testing. There are ways of protecting the fighters from them taking steroids. Does Dana go up to all of them and say hey here is some steroids take them? I highly doubt it. But as the figure face for the UFC, he could help try to contain the steroids by laying down more sufficall laws, because obviosuly a 1 year suspension is not enough if guys continue to use steroids in MMA.

The article by Kevin Hole makes some good points about the UFC needing to lead the way in cleaning up the sport since they are the major “legit” venue. They’ve done a lot to take the sport from “human cock fighting” to where it is today and the latest scandal just shows their work isn’t done yet.
The problem wasn’t caused by the UFC but they are in the best position to crack down and send out a message.

That’s a very good point. I think that that is borrowed from the boxing game. It seems to be working because they’ve pumped up the interest level for every event (except the ‘72 disaster) as though you have these two freight trains colliding for the title. Most people haven’t caught on to what you pointed out though- how they channel contenders up.

As with Sy Sperling of hair club: “I’m not just the president- I’m also a fan”. I think White really does admire most of the guys in the organization. If for no other reason, they are making him a boat load of money. Out of the hundreds of guys they have had under contract in the past six years, you’re going to have a few pains in the a$$ like Tito Ortiz, and the Shamrocks; fat bouys Gabe Rutibeger and Travis Loser; the three dufuses who fought in the house; dopers like Shrek, Franca, Stefan Boner, Tim Sylvia, Nick Diaz; dopes like Andy Wang.
He seems to be quite a politician in that he loves you when you’re winning but you’re a nobody when you lose. Maybe he just likes to stir the pot and keep these “fanboy” boards in business.

while tasking the UFC to “FIX” the steroid problem in MMA is a bit zealous the UFC does need to put it’s foot down and make a statement that steroids will NOT be tolerated. THey need to kick Sherk and Franca out as examples and from this point on NO steroid use or your contract is null and void and subject to termination.
ps. 72 and 73 were great, 72 better than I thought and 73 had some good technical fights worthy of PPV, I feel sorry for you if you though they were boring, perhaps you should watch a different sport.

Pardon me Mr. White, but I don’t let anyone think for me. If you want to turn whatever brain you have over to Dan, go right ahead. I’ll continue to be as critical as I feel necessary and if you have a problem with that, sue me.
Now you’re complaining about Iole reporting the news? Yeah, lets all cover up for the fighters and promoters. Obviously the secrecy policy hasn’t helped. Iole is only doing his job as a reporter. Or maybe you think he should just report what Dana tells him to.

“Sean Sherk had the gall to go on a national television show and brag about his training routine when he knew it was all fake.”
This statement is way too strong! Just because Sherk tested potive for steroids doesn’t mean he was intentionally taking them or “cheating”. The press needs to give him a fair trial before saying things like this. The line between legal supplements and banned substances isn’t always that clear. An athlete i know once had a win taken from his record because he took an allergy pill the day before the competition.
I dont know enough yet about this situation and wont pass judgment until i at least hear his side of the story.
If a fighter tests positive for a banned substance he must have the win taken from his record (even if its an allergy pill). It doesnt always mean the fighter is a cheating roid monkey.

People think that just because you’re taking supplements or even steroids that you somehow grow ‘magical’ muscles without lifting a finger. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Athletes who take steroids or any other performance enhancing substance have to work just as hard, if not harder, to become a champion.
The only thing that I see wrong with taking steroids is that they are illegal and not everyone does it, giving an ‘unfair’ advantage to the athlete who is taking steroids and fights an athlete who does not use them.
To say that someone’s training is all ‘fake’ just because he uses steroids is totally ridiculous.
