UFC Quick Quote: Fitch signs UFC 76 bout agreement to fight Sanchez
"I signed my bout agreement today to fight Diego Sanchez at UFC 76 in Anaheim California. This is the fight I have been waiting for for so long. I am now back from my trip to Japan and have already begun my training. I will be ready for this fight and cant wait to dish out another of my world class beatdowns. I also want to thank all my new friends in Japan for showing me so much respect and showing me such a good time. Thanks Killer Bee's and thanks to New Japan Pro-Wrestling."
-- UFC welterweight Jon Fitch confirms his upcoming bout with Diego Sanchez at UFC 76 on September 22 via MySpace, news of which we passed along earlier here. There's also a poster for the event making the rounds on the forums -- I cannot confirm if it is genuine or fake. It just looked cool.

Great news. In fairness this card hasn’t turned out too bad, on paper three explosive fights. Just hope that Lidell doesn’t get any knocks to prevent the clash with Silva later in the year.
Nice new look to the site btw

As I mentioned in the post, it COULD VERY WELL BE FAKE. But RUMORS began to surface yest. that Griffin has replaced Machida.

Hell yeah, can’t wait. Lets hope Liddell can come through and eventually avenge his (2) losses against Jackson.

maybe they should switch Shogun vs Chuck, Jardine vs Forrest 2..that be ok with me…but im probably one of the only people thinking Forrest has a chance at shogun…also it it just me or does the Chuck vs Jardine poster look like two bad ass construction workers going at it?

also, im sure thats not the actual poster it will be, Forrest looks young and like his mom just gave him that haircut..im sure it would be updated…but it looks cool like that showing all six guys

I sure hope its real. I don’t know why someone would take the time to create a ‘fake’ ufc poster.
If I was going to do so, I would have put nonsense matchups such as:
Shogun vs Weems
Chuck Liddell vs the 1 2 3 Kid
And the headliner = The battle of the Forrests
Griffin vs Gump.

It’s tough to believe that Forrest would get such a jump in competition after his fight with Hector Ramirez. I could see if Griffin was fighting a guy like Machida, but Shogun!? This poster seems to be fake, but I hope the three fights featured on the poster are true though because two of the three fights are solid. The Liddell vs. Jardine fight is decent, but I don’t consider it to be a sold fight because I think Liddell will knock Jardine out silly. Jardine was losing his fight with Forrest up until he clipped Forrest and evenutally got the TKO and we all know what happened to Jardine in his last fight. Hopefully the Griffin vs. Shogun fight is true.

I was pumped for this fight, and now they have ruined it. Shogun vs. Machida would have been awesome. They are definitely the two most technically sound fighters in that division.
The only good thing is that Griffin is definitely more high-profile than Machida, so everyone will see how good Shogun is after this.

Why do so many people feel the need to hate on Machida? HE IS UNDEFEATED. HE DESTROYED FRANKLIN. HE OWNED BONNAR.
I just wish the UFC would give him a worthy adversary so that everyone could see where he is at, in terms of skill level.

76 is gonna be awesome, a chuck/silva main event would have made it the best card ever, but there are still some great fights…sanchez/fitch is going to be a war, as a sanchez fan i’m really nervous for the possibility of 2 losses in a row and as a fitch fan i’m really excited that he has an opportunity to really prove himself against in my opinion a top 3 ww, still i’ll be cheering for diego though, but regardless of who wins this fight we all as mma fans are going to win because this one will be a fight of the year top 5 for sure…

Griffen’s gonna get KOed as long as Shogun fights to his potential and not like some of the PRIDE signings for the exception of RAmpage. If Shogun comes out as he should that fight should be over in the first round similar to Griffens loss against Jardine.
Liddell should eaily finish Jardine first round as soon as he makes a mistake. No later than 2nd round
Sanchez/Fitch will be fight of the night

I agree. I really don’t see Shogun or Chuck having too much trouble in their fights, but Sanchez/Fitch is a toss up between two very explosive guys. I’m just glad Fitch has such a high profile fight in front of him. He has been on the undercards for far too long

The main problem with Machida is his style just plain isn’t exciting to most people (myself included). The ufc knows how good he is, but they perhaps don’t want someone who could be as unpopular as Sylvia was as champ. His ufc 70 fight being removed from the US broadcast is proof of that.
Hence, it could be a disaster in their mind if he were to upset Shogun, something he has a much higher chance of doing that Forrest. That is why Shogun is fighting Forrest. He is a fighter who is well known, will make it exciting, and isn’t as much of a threat to Shogun. Machida isn’t well known, won’t make it exciting, and is a huge threat. It is just more logical from a business standpoint.

i doubt that Forrest will fight Rua in this ppv…the poster is a fake…
diego will destroy fitch….we saw a limited diego in his fight against kos, and kos didn’t do shit to him. diego will own this division (with gsp) and will one day hold the belt
jardine presents an interesting fight for lidell…there’s no way he’ll approach this fight like he did Houston Alexander…this could be closer than people think…people forget, jardine’s actually a good fighter who has been defeated only once since TUF (not including the bonnar fight – he was robbed in that one). he’s a multi-dimensional fighter…
lidell better be at his best, or he could very well drop a second straight fight

by TonyDrip on Jul 18, 2007 4:26 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think Fitch takes this one. It will be a great fight. Anyone who thinks Diego will roll over Fitch is clearly not very educated on the UFC WW division. Fitch beats Diego by KO in the 3rd. Then Fitch fights Karo sometime late this year. Then they place Serra to fight Fitch in Feb. after Serra is destroyed by Hughes. The Fitch Fights the loser of St. Pierre and Hughes mid year 2008….and FINALLY if he can pull that one off (which would be amazing) Fitch fights for the fucking WW title late next year!!
Hellzzz Yeaahhh!!! Maybe I am dreamin here, but it makes sense. Hughes and St. Pierre are my only concerns with this plan.

You must me on something. No way Diego will own the weilterweight division. He’s a very good fighter but he has a very good chance of losing to Fitch and GSP or Hughes would throw him around like a rag doll. And if you think Jardine is a threat to Chuck you are crazy. Sure hes a decent fighter he beat a bunch of mediocre opponets since TUF but he’s not even in the same class as Chuck he will get KTFO in the first round.

Sorry you are so testy, had a brain fart and re-checked my shit. Beating Kenflo at a weight disadvantage, not that impressive. Same with Diaz. Riggs is garbage. Fitch was caught in a submission and escaped. He did the same thing against Hironaka (triangle). I’m not saying this is a good thing, but to be tested like that and still come through and win the fights in a dominating fashion only makes him a stronger fighter! In MMA, everyone’s going to get caught in a bad situation….it’s how you handle it that matters. Fitch ends it in the 2nd!

I think they should’ve put Houston Alexander against Chuck, but I guess they wouldn’t want to risk chuck after a loss. I think Diego is going to comeback the killer that he really is, the one that doesn’t get KO’d or submitted. Fitch is a good fighter, he is just not explosive as Diego is. I say diego finishes Fitch 3rd round ground and pound

I think Fitch will take this fight just because he’s a better striker than Diego and is equally talented in wrestling. One other advantage Fitch has over Diego is KOS being his trining partner. I thought I was the only one not to be impressed with Sanchez’s first few wins.
Mismatch in size with Kenflo; Diaz did most damage with upkicks while Sanchez punched the ground and won on take down points; The Riggs KO was a fluke; …but he did dominate Gassaway.
I was impressed with the third round in the win over Karo.
