I am a little bit skeptical. When they show the trailer and do not have any clips of the actual game play, worries me. I don’t see how they could mimic the actual fighting without making it like a boxing match but I guess we will see.

That’s looking sweet. Things I would want with the gameplay:

- Body specific damage
- One-strike knockouts
- Timing-based grapple counters/defence (pulled off by how quick you react to a shoot or submission attempt)
- Strike-and-shoot combos
- Stamina meter is very important, everything from striking, wrestling, submission attempts, pass attempts, sweep attempts take stamina. Repleneshing the meter is based on conditioning (fast if you’re Sean Sherk, not so much if you’re BJ lol).

if the controls are anything like fightnight, i think the game will be good. a good idea would be, for like punches.. its default, u just hit the stick like in fight night.. for kicks.. you should hold down one of the r1 r2 or L1 L2 triggers.. and so on. there should be a button for shooting in, and as ur doing it, press a combo for a certian take down. and on the other hand, theyll be a way to clinch, and u can just press that button combo and do a take down. idk i think thatd be cool. but hopefully the guys at THQ leave the shitty wrestling games theyve made behind and think of some breakthrough stuff

YEs…ive been reading a lot about this game and just waiting for a video to finally come out…heres what i know:

Basically all the greatest fighters will be in it of course. Look at the last UFC game on Xbox made in 2002 and most likely every fighter from there will be in it. All the newest pride fighters will most likely definately be in it.
It is made by THQ who has the rights to make UFC games until 2011. THQ does all the WWE Raw games so look at their character selection compared to whos popular in WWE now and they have almost everyone. probably wont see a lot of the new ultimate fighter guys (UF5 and UF6 coming out) but (UF1-4) it should have (rashad, forrest, jardine, bisping etc.) If you know a well known bad ass pride fighter (cro cop, fedor, etc. they will be in it!

Next, the company that made the previous UFC games was a unknown crappy company. THQ is HUGE and will make this game 1,000,000 X better than the previous UFC’s so dont even begin to compare the old games.

Gameplay: not sure how the gameplay will work but i do know that in the old UFC games there was a life meter and when it was gone u were kncocked out…aint happenin in this game…also the submissions were random and impossible to dodge…once again aint happenin. More than likely if u want to pull a triangle while getting beatin down u will be able to…as well as reverse it if your the one beating down…if u think your guys in position for a kamura…u can go for that with different button combinations…etc
Heres a hellova idea for THQ though. like fight night, with a touch of a buitton u could switch from head shots to body shots. imagine if all 4 buttons (X, Y, A, B) could be used for different combinations and punches to the head..hold the Trigger and they go to the body. Then if u just tap the R Trigger it switches to kicks so u have 4 types of kicks to go to the head or body. could get real technical and badass if they can pull this off.
The real thing thats gonna make this game or break this game is the submissions. imagine another control layout where each anaolog stick is a leg movement or arm movement. imagine youur in full guard on the ground and u can literally takee the left analog and as u move it ur legs move and u can wrap your legs around his head to bring in a triangle..that would be bad ass. And vice versa on top you can have your control set so your analogs are each hand and u can see the submission atempt coming and move the anaologs around to get out of it.
In all this game has potential to be the best fighting game of all time!! I know i will definately be preordering this one!!

My guess would be that if you are in the position to perform a move a prompt will come on the screen to do so and if you miss the opputunity you won’t be able to do the move until you gain the right position again.

Dang, that preview was awesome!! If we were able to get comfortable doing Hadukens in Street Fighter at the age of 8, we can definitely handle some more advanced schemes on this game.

Anyone play any of the previous games. Not that fun. Kinda difficult. To be honest, I’d rather get in the ring with a pissed off Fedor than play those games. Hopefully they did some serious thinking for this one.

whew thought i might have been the only one! this game looks awesome, if it is half as good as this preview leads me to believe then i guess im gonna have to ante-up and get a PS3 on the ol’ credit card…

I think this will be a working progress with the stand up being really good but the submissions letting it down. However THQ are the best when it comes to these sort of things but it will take a while. Maybe UFC 2009 (getting a bit ahed of myself)will have a scheme that will work with the submissions, at least thats my prediction, but for once I hope I have got it absolutely wrong.

Orrrrrr, you would just have to input button combinations to attempt a submission. The more advanced the submission, the harder the button combo.

To answer some dumb questions this game will not come out on any other systems except PC, Xbox 360 , PS3 and maybe a crap version on the wii cause any other system would explode trying to play a game with graphics that good.

It’s for both(and with the insane development costs for games now, it doesn’t make sense of a 3rd party developer not to), and there isn’t a problem with buying a PS3 either as that thing doesn’t self destruct like the 360!

I’ll buy mine on the 360, since the PS3 online gaming is nonexistant, provided my 360 is still intact when the game releases!

Have any of you ever played the UFC game for PS2, probably the most horrific game ever made, controls are garbage along with the gameplay and graphics… I am praying this game will be better because I’d love for a good UFC game, especially one I’d want to keep..

even though that’s not real in game footage, im confident the game will be great. I have UFC: SUDDEN IMPACT for PS2 and that was an awesome game. That was released in 04’ so imagine how much better this game could be considering it would be running on a next-gen system and they’ve had 3 years to work on it. The only thing I’m worried about is how smooth its going to be. What I mean is that it will be hard to show fighters passing guards, being in theyre guard, etc smoothly. but you never know with Ps3 and 360. this games gonna be fuckin sick.
