UFC Fight Night 11: Din Thomas vs. Spencer Fisher

UFC veterans Din Thomas (20-6) and Spencer Fisher (20-3) will clash in a lightweight bout on September 20, headlining UFC Fight Night 11 from the Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, according to FightNetwork.com.
The report indicates that "Dinyero" has verbally agreed to take on the Miletich-trained Fisher.
Thomas has been on a tear since the UFC re-introduced the 155-pound division, dispatching of Rich Clementi at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4 Finale, surviving a rollercoaster bout with Clay Guida at UFC Fight Night 8, and submitting Jeremy Stephens at UFC 71.
Fisher of course recently headlined UFC Fight Night 10 in June, engaging in an epic three-round slugfest with Sam Stout en route to a unanimous decision win. After the victory, he stated that he wanted to face Joe Lauzon. Likewise, Lauzon stated the same after he toppled Brandon Melendez at the TUF 5 Finale.
Looks like we're going to have to wait awhile to see that showdown. But I'm not too upset about that.
This match up will no doubt vault the winner near the top of the crowded UFC lightweight title contender picture.
In fact, crowded may be an understatement -- BJ Penn, Joe Stevenson, Frank Edgar and others make this the division to watch.
Interestingly, the Thursday night Spike television special will take place immediately before the premier of TUF 6, which is the latest in the reality series that will showcase 16 up-and-coming welterweight prospects.
Can't wait.

When does TUF6 air?
That would be a great fight. I think Thomas might edge it out though.

According to this report, right after the event on September 20. At the usual time I’d guess — 10 p.m. ET.

i like din thomas a lot, he was my pick to win tuf 4 ww, him and spencer fisher have contrasting styles, it will be a fight decided by who can impose their game plan the best, the king is a banger and will no doubt try to keep it standing, and din is more bjj and submissions and will try to work the ground game even though his stand up is pretty decent too…i give this fight to din thomas because i think he’s more well rounded, his advantage on the ground over fisher is way more than fisher’s advantage in the stand up, i say din thomas by submission in the 2nd or 3rd round…

Spencer Fisher is going to defeat Din Thomas in the third round with a nice knockout. I was not impressed by Thomas’ fight against young Jeremy Stephens. The kid was controlling the second round before he was PLACED in a submission hold. I will say it again, I’ve watched THE REPLAY OF THAT FIGHT at keast 3 times and the kid never tapped. Just another string of fights where the refs are calling them prematurely.

I would guess that it will start at 11 pm ET. Usually the Ultimate Fight Nights are 3 hours. They have never started a fight night before 8 pm. So if the Ultimate Fight Night starts at 8, it would run till 11. Then TUF 6 would follow at 11pm. Of course they might start the Fight Night at 9pm, which would mean that TUF6 wouldnt start until midnight. Or they can start at 8, and only be a 2 hour Fight Night, then TUF6 would be at 10. But my guess would be UFN from 8 – 11 and TUF6 11 – 12.
As far as the fight is concerned, I think that this is going to be a great match up, with a great contrast in styles. I just hope that the fight doesn’t go to the hands of the judges. But then again, when does anyone want a fight to go to the judges, not counting Tim Sylvia…

As much as we can say Din’s groundwork is WAY better than Spencer’s – to be fair – Spencer really hasn’t had a chance to showcase his groundgame much, and he is a Miletich trained fighter, so you know is groundgame is tight. He submitted Thiago Alves and a few others, so he does know what he’s doing on the ground, but the nod does go to Din for a superior groundgame, but if Spencer can goad Din into standing for awhile it could be a quick KO. I like Spencer in this fight, but my opinion will probably change three times by the time this fight roles around…thanks for the info MANIA…cheers all.

Din has some FAST hands, and definitely an above average fighter. I dont know how Din is a step up for Fisher though, but (shrug.) Still gonna be a good fight.

Din has this in the bag. Spencer is gross off his back. Boxing edge to spencer though. Spencer swings for the fences and Din will drag him down and submit him. Din was nasty in his last fight with flawless technique

To Seamus-
“He is a Miletich trained fighter, so you know is groundgame is tight.”
Ummm…So is Jens Pulver. And we all know how great his ground game is.
This fight will be a deja vu of the Stevens/Thomas fight. Din by armbar, round 2.

Spencer will destroy Thomas. Spencer is in the top 5 lightweights in the ufc. Thomas looked vulnerable against a teenager in his last fight (barely squeeking out a victory – questionable tap). This one won’t be close.

6 weeks to heal bruised/broken ribs then 6 weeks to train? Dont think that is doable for Emerson…

I think Gray said he’s fighting in September and that it is NOT Emerson because he’s still banged up. He mentioned it at the UFC 73 fan party post from yesterday.

This is a great match up. You could of easily thrown one of these newby’s in like Edgar or Griffen in against him but I think the Thomas fight is awesome. Fisher showed much improvement with the hands and Din has always had great hands. if this fight goes to ground Din will end this fight quick

Fish has the hands, but who knows if they would fight, seeing they both train in the same gym. Din ALWAYS has a puncher’s chance… that dude is FAST. BJ of course, can beat anyone he faces…
