Phony Baroni: The New York Bad Ass tests positive for steroids

Phony Baroni

Former UFC fighter and perennial loudmouth Phil Baroni has tested positive for Boldenone and Stanozolol Metabolites following his loss to Frank Shamrock on June 22, according to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

Baroni has been suspended for one year and will be fined $2,500.

Boldenone is intended for use by veterinarians, mostly to treat injured horses.

Baroni now joins Stephan Bonnar (who also tested positive for Boldenone last September) in the steroid hall of shame.

It seems like every time the world of MMA can make the slightest bit of progress, some insecure goon is there to push it right back.

Nice job, Phil.

I think anyone who takes steroids is an absolute twat, and anyone who cheats in sport should be banned for life.

I don’t think they hurt you. It’s just that when a fighter is normally taking them, it’s cause he is up against a way better opponent, and wants the advantage. I’m still shocked these idiots think they can get away with it

people found guilty of taking steroids should be suspened for more than a year and fined alot more than $2500, so that it will be a deterrent for other fighters to take steroids

No, they do hurt you. Just because Frank was “Way better” does not mean that steroids dont hurt you. Especially drugs that are intended for animal use only.

Boldenone is used for stacking with other steroids in bodybuilding. And guess what Baroni used to be?

Baroni with this bodybuilder physique- taking steroids??! Noooo! It’s just beyond belief!!! He’s pals with Mark Coleman who happens to have a freak physique too. I’d check him for juice.

id expect over 20% of all athletes to be using some kind of performance enhancing drug or to have done so at some point

mma fighters just seem to be tested and caught more frequently

i cant see why you are knocking baroni
hes a true warrior who has given many great fights over the years

the guy is fearless aand even tho his skills may not put him in the top 10 at 185 hes definitely in the top 10 for a guaraunteed good fight

if people want to take drugs that should be their choice… suspensions for cocaine or getting high are also a joke.. these guys fight in a cage what difference does a little pot make

i dont like the way certain fighters seem to get longer bans than others, it should be a set period of ban for each particular substance

hopefully baroni will still be able to fight overseas where nsac have no control over him

im hopeful cage rage can stump up the cash and bring him to the uk but id expect bodog to allow him to fight in russia or wherever overseas they hold another event as he is a big draw fighter who fans will happily pay to see

Can we please go a week without another well known MMA fighter getting caught using steroids, weed, or cocaine??? The damage done to MMA’s reputation in general is going to be huge once some major news outlet decides this is worth talking about. I think MUCH more strict penalties must be put in place to stop this from happening immediately. How about first offense: no fight purse and gone for a year, second offense: no fight purse, gone for two years, third offense: lifetime ban. That would get the users’ attention real quick.

Even with Roids, Baroni looked tiny next to Shamrock.

A lot of PRIDE fighters are ON ROIDS.

Baroni
Coleman (shamrock of pride)
Randleman
Wanderlei Silva (juicer)
Big British Guy that stomped Frye recently
Arona

They all have to get clean now that they are going to be fighting in the U.S. and the Yakuza isn’t running things anymore, where a piss test could be easily lost.

And losers would get paid more money (rampage) by getting KO’ed or tapped, but less if they were to KO or tap the favored japanese fighter.

Freak show fights like Giant Silva and Zuluzinho, ran by the yakuza, a criminal organazition, numerous fights involving Champions but without the belt on the line(gomi/diaz), the lame-ass BOXING ring with numerous rope stoppages, bankruptcy.

The best thing that could have happened to Pride happened, when the UFC bought them.

I don’t know man, the NFL has a player arrested every week, guaranteed. Plus NFL players always piss hot for roids, drugs as do all other athletes in every other major sport in America.

The NFL has also had numerous former players go down or get charged with murder. (O.J., Rae Carruth, Ray Lewis) Cincinati Bengals already have stripes on thier uniforms to go along with half the team being arrested.

With all that garbage, The NFL is by far the most popular sport in America, go figure.

These reports really havn’t had any effect yet, we shall see in the future.

All of the fighters take steroids and they should be aloud to. Randy “The Natural” Couture- the reason why they call him “The Natural” is- it’s an inside joke, because he uses so alot of steroids. No one could ever hold that much muscle after the age of 40. Look at Rashad Evans he has excess fat around his nipples from taking too many steroids- only surgery can get rid of those bitch tits.

Here is a list of obvious steroid takers, and I should know I have taken steroids for over 5 years and can pick them out with ease. Randy Couture: too much muscle for over 40, Chuck Liddell: belly fat from holding too much estrogen. Gabriel Gonzaga: extremely aggresive, plus he is naturally a small frame and there are photos to prove it. Jeff Monson: I think I saw a fight with him where he forgot to take the syringe out of his ass. Ken Shamrock: the worn veins in his arms clearly show steroid use. Jason Von Flue: because he is just plain HUGE. Anyway I would say about 85% of all fighters atleast take some sort of steroid- like a pill aggression booster taken for a week- works in three days and is not detectible. I would take Steroids if I was a fighter not only to be more aggresive, but to put more water in my joints to prevent injury just likr the baseball players do. Those who are against steroids do not know anyhting about them. Most fighters take them, and they should be aloud to. SO GET OVER IT.

-Isn’t it injected intramuscular or in oral form? not in veins?

I would say his body has looked pretty much the same for years but his budda belly is growing…maybe from HGH as that could cause your organs and bones to grow.

For everyone accusing every MMA fighter of using Steroids or illegal enhancers… STOP and Shut up for a second. It’s obvious some are tested positive and are rightfully punished. But to accuse guys for using them without ANY bearing of truth is just being irresponsible and frankly degrading.

If you don’t have evidence accusing guys like Randy or any other MMA fighter that is not proven to abuse illegal substances, don’t bring it up. It’s easy for you to accuse someone, But its not fair to the athletes or the sport itself to deal with some BS you just fabricate for your own amusement.

In other words, Prove it with evidence or STFU.

Could it have been the fact that no one can get insanely pumped up while remaining so shredded like that without the use of anabolic steroids ? Too bad it couldnt even help him defeat a former top fighter who oh by the way has been out of serious competition for the past 6 years.

So 85 % of fighters are juicing it? I think they need to get some better drug tests going or maybe they should get Pond to over see the tests?

I will drop my two cents of knowledge on this subject in…

Its like this folks

Your body naturally produces testosterone. When you unnaturally increase those levels, your body will seek to reset the balance by increasing the estrogen in your body. This is easily detectable thru various characteristics such as the over development of the pecks where they start to take the same more of mammory glands rather than male pecks. Also the tissue around the nipple begin to retain water (Wrestling fans in here will remember there was a time when The Rock had the puffy nipple syndrom and he had surgery to correct this). Also other signs depending on the type of steriod you are taking is the constant swole look. When you lift weights your muscles tear and for the moments after you leave the gym your muscles are swollen and can be seen easier and more defined than if you were to just wake up in the morning (this is why alot of body builders will lift right before going out to put their body on demonstration but Steriods gives you that perpetual swole look this is more commonly described as AIR Muscles because you may or may not be any STRONGER but you certianly will look like you are.)

Another sign contributed to that term AIR muscles is the un natural rapid loss of body mass when someone cycles off steriods and does not off set it by working out more. This is apparent in Jason Giambi and is also apparent in Fernando Vargas after the De La Hoya fight. This is also the reason why most people DO NOT believe that Roy Jones Jr took steriods to make the heavyweight limit to fight John Ruiz because he was unable to lose the weight and had to stress his body to make weight for the first Tarver fight. Steriods are mainly used for its ability to cut recovery time in half. There was a comment made by Frank Shamrock once where he talked about how when he wakes up his knees hurt and he has to take joint pain meds to build up the lube in his joints. Steriods would help him with that as well (See Barry Bonds who’s knee issues have been known for the last 5 years and yet did not effect him until AFTER the steriod investigation brought his use under question)

It has been stated NUMEROUS times by VARIOUS fighters that in Japan the rules are so lax that its well known amongst the fighters that some of them are juiced up and others are not. I think it was Rampage who mentioned that in an interview before. I mean lets just look at the before and afters.

Ken Shamrock (Before he first left UFC) compared to when he fought Don Frye

Don Frye when he was in UFC compared to when he was in Pride

Wanderlie when he fought Vitor Belfort compared to when he fought Cro Cop

these are grown ass men who seemingly gain and drop muscle mass like as if they still had the metabolisms of teenagers.

Oh yeah and by the way the name THE NATURAL IS a inside joke, but not because he juices its because of his life style. The guy doesn’t drink, doesnt smoke, doesnt even drink soda, and has a strict regimen that most people could not adhere too. Similar to a Bernard Hopkins Randy Couture lives his life like a freakin sparten. and keep in mind he is not walking around at like 230 or nothing like that he is still a VERY SMALL heavyweight which is why he was able to make the light heavyweight max.

Well Baroni is a former natural bodybuilding champion so thats probably why he looked big.

I got a few friends that are nutritionists and body builds… lemee tell you, they are ALL on banned substances. Clen is practically a mainstay for these guys… which is what Tim Sylvia got busted for. You cant cut down to sub 3-4% body fat for a few hours without a performance enhancing drug. As far as Baroni, or anyone else… I’ll believe it when I see it. Its guilty when caught, not by assumption.

Its not hard to get as big as guys like Randleman and Monson, anyone that has ever been really built will tell you… you get there, and its very easy to maintain. Its getting there that is a pain in the ass. Look at Shamrock, that guy has been an animal from UFC2. Dont doubt the human drive to suceed, you can push your body to do just about whatever you want, with or without substance. Nutrition goes a hell of a long way, trust me on that one.
