UFC 74: Kendall Grove vs. Patrick Cote

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season three middleweight winner Kendall Grove (8-3) will take on TUF 4 185-pound finalist Patrick Cote at UFC 74: "Respect," on August 25, according to MMAWeekly.com.
Cote also confirmed the bout on a recent Underground forum post.
Grove defeated Alan Belcher in his most recent bout via submission at UFC 69 in April. In his last UFC tilt, Cote coasted to a unanimous decision win over Scott Smith at UFC 67 in February.
It did not go over well with fans or UFC President Dana White.
"Da Spyder" turned in an impressive and dominant performance over Belcher. Cote, on the other hand, headed back to TKO in Canada for a fight -- and a first-round technical knockout win over Jason Day -- to prove that he still belongs inside the Octagon.
This is a tough fight for Cote, who is 1-4 in UFC competition despite being extremely talented. Grove is going to make him work for 15 minutes ... if it lasts that long.
Maybe we'll see a different Cote at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, now that he has that elusive first UFC win under his belt.
Interesting fight and a solid addition to a card that has some nice match ups thus far from top to bottom.

Talent-wise, they’re pretty comparable, but Cote has succumbed to the pressures of fighting on the biggest stage. But Kendall, needs a new nickname. There’s another “Spider”, and he’s the champion of the division, no less, lol.

Pat,
And they are both Mauy Thai BJJ practitioners, haha.
I really like Kendall (because of his fighting style) so I’d like to see him win this, and I think he will.

their nicknames aren’t exactly the same, Silva is the “spider”, and Grove is “Da Spyda”. LOL I know thats lame, but who really cares about nicknames really?
My prediction, “Da Spyda” will destroy Cote. What has Cote ever done in the UFC anyway? Seriously he didn’t win his last fight against Scott Smith, he just didn’t loose.

The only thing I hear about Cote is “In Canada he knockedo ut this guy, submitted this guy, dry humped this guys face causing him to black out”
But every fight he has been in for the UFC has been LACKLUSTER, and not one of them was an exciting match up.
Go Kendall.

i like it, i hope kendall gets another win and keeps climbing the ladder, he seems to be getting better and better with every fight, team punishment has no doubt been really good for him and his career, i look for him to come out aggressive and submit cote early much like lutter did in the tuf 4 finale, if he doesn’t get an early sub i still think he has the skills and the length to stay away from cote’s power, i like kendall’s chances in this one…i’m really liking 74 too, some really nice fights with some top talent from every division except lhw…

Cote’s gonna take this one…too strong for ‘da spyda’…and I don’t see this being a boring fight.
Mr.NC-17 – is that supposed to be funny…because we Canadians talk like that? Tomato Can… And by the way, you only use "" when you’re actually quoting someone…Tomato Can

Lame match up. What is Kendell the Mike Bisbing of the 185 guys? they have to protect him by giving him this retard? Kendell is undefeated and Cote is 1 for 5 in the UFC, get a clue. When will they challenge this guy? give him Yushin or anybody with a winning record for christs sake.

DOES COTE EVEN HAVE A CHANCE???
i guess he has a punchers chance but really he isnt gonna win this fight. cote will be outta shape as always and kendall will push the pace. cote is like elvis there both cans that are just there to build up and coming fighters.
im not buying 73 being there isnt any fights, besides the tito vs rashad(i dont want to be forrest)evens, that i want to see. but 74 and 75 are looking great.
i just think that silva’s, sherks, and big nogs fights will be one sided. ill be suprised if any of them lose and wont care if any of them do. if i had to pick one that might lose it would be silva but i doubt it.
im still waiting for
randy vs fedor
chuck vs shogun
tito vs rampage
hughes vs gsp III
arlovski vs crocop
karo vs deigo II
dont care who wins any of them just want to see them.

Guys want to know which matches if you had to choose 1 from each division you would want to see:
Heavy weight – “Cro Cop vs Vera” or “Couture vs Arlovski”
Light
Heavy weight – “Shogun vs Ortiz” or “Wanderlei vs Lidell”
Middle weight – “Franklin vs Silva” (only fight I really want to see if you no a better one let me know)
Welter weight – “Hughes vs GSP”(part 3) or “Hughes vs BJ Penn”(part 3)
Light weight – “Franca vs Sherk” or “Stevenson vs Florian”
If you have a better option in a division lets hear it
by Holdin Ropes on Jun 28, 2007 2:39 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
@ Holdin Ropes
Heavy Weight: “Fedor vs Gonzaga” “Noguiera vs Couture”
LHW: “Liddell vs Shogun” “Ortiz vs Arona”
MW: “Paulo Filho vs Dan Henderson”
WW: “Karo Parysian vs Matt Hughes” “GSP vs Sakurai”
LW: “Frank Edgar vs Joe Stevenson”

With all the recent upsets- I wouldn’t be so sure of fights being one-sided.
Silva should be the most favored. We’ll see if success hasn’t spoiled his training ethic yet. Nog has already beaten the fish but he might not be taking the fight as seriously then. Herring has some cage experience now which Nog doesn’t. Then Shrek should win if he keeps this on the ground but Franca does have submission wins and he pounded out Spencer Fisher in his last win. I almost have to say this last one is a toss up.
We don’t know if Sherk is really the champ because they just picked him and Florian to fight for the fresh LW belt. Way more pressure on Sherk than Franca.

Dream matchup? By a wide margin, I’d mostly like to see Matt Hughes against any of the following:
Hughes-GSP III
Hughes-Parisyan
Hughes-Koshcheck
Hughes-Fitch
Not as excited about Matt vs. Matt because I think Serra will get his ass whooped.

Cote is a bum. He shouldn’t still be fighting in the UFC. Especially with all the PRIDE talent coming to the UFC. He should just continue to fight in Canada. I am not a fan at all of Kendall Grove, so I will actually be rooting for Cote. I never like Grove’s personality, especially after joining team punishment. I remember in his last fight, he defeats Alan Belcher and goes into the whole entire Tito Ortiz with the hands, and digging the grave, and all those retarded antics. Totally uncalled for. I can’t wait to see Kendall lose a fight soon (unfortunately it probably won’t be against Cote).

In my opinion, the fight he had with Joe Doerkson was a good matchup for both of them…It was up down the whole fight until Pat got caught in a rear-naked choke.A lot of transitions took place.Nonetheless…neither really “made it in the bigtime.”

Patrick “Pillsbury Dough Boy” Cote and his beer belly takes on Kendall “string bean” Groove. Am I the only one who thinks this is a pointless match up? Gotta love Dana and his “kid gloves” approach with his ultimate fighter guys haha. All about the marketing dollars as they are heavily invested in these TV stars. At least Kendall has some moxy to him where as Michael Bisping probably thinks in his head that he is a legitamte 205lb. er lol.
The Golden Boy of the UFC gets coddled by Dana White much like a new born infant.

BJ Penn is the Pillsbury Dough Boy. How about Patrick “Win? No Way” Cote and Kenall “I let Tito teabag me every night” Grove.

No way. BJ was cut in his last fight. Give him some credit.
The other nicknames are acceptable, even though I like Grove. He was seriously impressive in his last fight. Cote, however, was not.
This fight should be more interesting because I dont think Grove will let Cote sit back and put us to sleep. He may even put Cote to sleep.

Hell yes he was.
Even though Cote is 1-4 in the Octagon, he always has a chance. Id give him the edge on standup, but Grove the edge on the ground due to his leverage and admirable Jujitsu. Grove gets a negative mark though, seeing as he immitates Tito waaaaaay too much.

Agreed. BJ looked terrific in his last fight. The last time he looked that good physically, he still had a full head of hair.

cote only has a punchers chance and i highly doubt he even has that. he will get sub’d in the first round against grove. as for franca, ive watched his last couple fights again and really dont see why he even deserves a shot at the title besides beggin dana for one after his last win. sherk has been in 5 round wars, he will out muscle franca and ground and pound him to ref stoppage. i dont even care who wins that fight. sherk isnt the smartest or quickest lightweight but he is one of the strongest and he will matt hughes his way to victory.

I think you are dead on. Sherk will take this fight, and move on to face BJ. Franca has done nothing to make me feel like he deserves a shot at the title. If BJ shows up to that fight looking like he did last Saturday, BJ will be the next LW champ.

Karo Bin Laden Parisyan Is a really boring fighter and would get owned by hughes/GSP/serra/sakurai. Randy Would Overwhelm emelianenko. Rampage would whoop tito, cro cop would get punked by arlovski hughes vs gsp would we awesome but hughes vs penn 3 would be better.

I can’t beleive everyone but 2 of you guys think Grove will crush Cote. Sure he’s 1-4 ( in the UFC) but he didn’t exactly get easy fights. His first fight in the octagon was against Tito Ortiz and Tito couldn’t finish him. I’d like to see Grove last 3 rounds with Tito, good luck. Cote beat Jason Macdonald last year and he is better and stronger than Grove. Sure Grove might beat him, but crush him ,no way.
