Looks like some people really do meet the fighters in the airport, haha!

Didn’t it look like noone in the airport knew or cared who he was. Thats funny.

i think if dana is gonna give him a title shot he should stay at lw, win the belt, defend it once or twice then when hughes beats serra he should go back up and win the ww belt and have both belts at the same time…theres probably too many people at ww in line for bj to get a shot after hughes/serra, but that would be cool…even if that doesn’t happen i still think he should stay at 155 and win the belt he never got, him and sherk would be an awesome fight…

Yeah Penn isn’t as well known as a lot on this site would think, no one I know who isn’t into the UFC knows who he is, they only seems to recognize names like tank abbott, dan severn, royce gracie and ken shamrock….the old UFC. I too would like to see Hughes and Penn go at it again with so much contraversey over there last fight, and also St.Pierre. Split decisions suck, I still don’t think it should have been a split, georges to me anyway clearly won rounds one and two and landed twice as many hits in round one, he just got eye poked and then had his nose clipped breaking his nose. Those would be great fights, but Penn fighting any of the top welter weights would be a good fight…….diego, karo, koscheck all good, he would give any of them a run for there money.

has penn always had that facial tick? I noticed it on his website note to. I’ve never noticed it before… can anyone confirm?

by naphta on Jun 26, 2007 11:00 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I meant he clearly won rounds 2 and 3 and round one was close, with gsp landing more shots, but penns were more damaging.

ya, i was really dissapointed after going to his site after the fight. not only did it crash, but it had nothing. i wanted his opinion on the fight, jens, and the whole rogan thing. and u know bj is never short on commentary, so i was really dissapointed. i really think he could be the only legit guy to have the lw and ww title at the same time. if you look back at his fight with hughes he DOMINATED the first two rounds then gassed hard. with his new conditioning/nutritionist coach i really think no one can touch him. in either weight division. but i guess we’ll see if this new bj penn stays or if he goes back to his old way of conditioning… surfing.

His post interview fight is on there now. Boy am I glad I logged on to see it too or else I wouldn’t have seen him thank everyone in his life down to his 2nd grade teacher and say a whole lot of nothing.

See what you mean. I’ve never noticed before. I’m pretty sure it isn’t a facial tick. Maybe he needed to pick out a bogey or something.

I think BJ should shoot for a belt. Weather it be the LW or WW, why wouldn’t you take the route that is more promising (takes less time). I don’t know what kind of guaranty he can get from Dana or the UFC, but that would be my motivation. If Hughes is standing in his way of the belt,OK. But a title should be his motivation, not Hughes.

I think BJ would do great in either division, but it seems like he might have a better chance in LW. It is deeper, but I think he might be able to beat just about anyone there, if he keeps his cardio up.

In Penn vs Hughes 2, BJ was really whoopin that ass in the first two rounds, but what happened was that he diddn’t get tired. Not, that I couldn’t see why people would make that assumption, he actually injured his rib in round 2 trying to take hughes’ back. If that hadn’t have happened he would have kept on kicking Hughe’s ass. Kindsa like manny vs nate.

Now Penn is my Favorite…so don’t get mad….yeah I know it was his rib and he didn’t gas…but if that fight went the distance, Matt would’ve had it anyway. I think BJ needed to finish that fight period. I remember jumping out of my seat, when BJ took Matts’ back and had a reverse-triangle,thinking it was almost over with a smile on my face…almost was right. As much as I’d like 2 c a rubbermatch w/ Hughes…I think Hughes will retire b4 BJ has a shot 2 get him!

I’ve never noticed BJ having a facial tick before, but something is definitely going on there. My first thought was that he’s all coked out. He looked like he was “jawing” big time…a la, that chuck liddell video on youtube where he’s all geeked out at a UFC event. The sunglasses certainly don’t help his cause. He seemed wired on something. Ice maybe?…that’s a huge drug in Hawaii. I read an interview with his training coach where he said that BJ had quit ‘partying’ and alcohol in the months leading up to the TUF5 finale so he could focus on training and cardio. More often than not, when the terms partying and drinking are presented seperately, partying is usually synonymous with drug use. But who really knows…I’m just unintelligently speculating.

Only way Penn could beat Hughes is early on, Hughes is too strong for Penn and would tire him out with his strength. I really don’t think its Penns “conditioning” he goes all out against guys like St.Pierre and Hughes who are much stronger than him and gets worn out. Even without breaking his rib I’m pretty sure he would have lost, and if the fight with Gsp went longer 4 or 5 rounds he would have been destroyed. Everyone seems to over look this, its not Penns conditioning he’s just fighting guys to big and strong for him, so he gases, Penn will never (unless he puts on 20 lbs of muscle) go the distance with St.Pierre and Hughes, he has to beat them in the first round.
