UFC 74: Respect is now official; Couture-Gonzaga to headline

UFC 74: "Respect," which features the heavyweight title fight between champion Randy Couture and challenger Gabriel Gonzaga is official, according to UFC.com.
The blockbuster event will air live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 25.
We've known about this show β and a few rumored match ups β for some time now. It's good to finally hear the official word.
Here's a snip from UFC President Dana White on UFC 74:
"With Gonzaga coming in and beating Mirko βCro Cop' the way he did and Randy Couture defeating Tim Sylvia the way he did makes for one of the most exciting heavyweight fights in UFC history. I honestly can't remember the last time I was this excited for a heavyweight matchup β I can't wait to see these two get in the Octagon at UFC 74."
Agreed. But, that's not the only intriguing fight on the card.
Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will take on Josh Koscheck in a battle to see who earns the right to compete, by all recent accounts, for the 170-pound title later this year.
St. Pierre is coming off of a crushing and disappointing loss to Matt Serra at UFC 69 in April. Koscheck outlasted Diego Sanchez that same night to earn a unanimous decision.
It will be interesting to see how "Rush" handles Koscheck's dominant wrestling ability, and how Koscheck handles "Rush's" well-rounded skill and athleticism.
Let's just hope the Canadian has it all together upstairs this time around.
Tickets for UFC 74 will go on sale Sunday, July 8 at 1 p.m. ET. We'll share more details about the sale when the date gets closer.

Dana White pumps it up: “This is the most exciting fight to have occurred since the last event!”
“You won’t see anything this exciting ever again until the next event which I guarentee will be even better than this one!”

Koshcheck – St Pierre is a high caliber matchup. If Koshcheck pulls off the upset, let’s see if Rogan lets him take the microphone again like he did after the Sanchez fight. Maybe Rogan and Koshcheck will throw down in the post-fight interview.

I see Kos giving GSP a harder time than anyone else in the division. That is until Penn puts on some weight and joins in the fun.

I will crap a live hen if St. Pierre loses to the blanket.

I bet Fitch gets Sanchez before Penn does. And you’re right, Fidel. Kos’ BS lay n pray won’t get it done against GSP.

I hope that Kos gets KTFO. I hate him. I’m pissed at Diego’s “performance” when they had their fight. GSP is one of my favorites and was shocked when he lost to Serra. GSP should win this fight fairly easily and hopefully get another title shot. If Kos somehow blankets his way to victory then he should get an imediate title shot.

If that onsale time is correct, 7am ET, that means I’ll have to buy tickets at 4am in my hotel room in Sacramento. Does anyone else think that timeframe is odd?

It is odd — because it was wrong. It’s 1 p.m. ET. 10 a.m. PT.

This will be an awesome fight. The card is jam packed with great fights. That Gove/Cote fight is new to me but damn I’m all for it. Grove should put this one away easily but Cote has a damn tough chin. GSP/Kos will deliver, but I want GSP to shut that damn clown up already. RC all the way, but Gonzaga will be a tough fight.

First off I cant stand Koshcheck and I believe that Diego had a very valid excuse for loosing that fight,he should never of fought after a scare like hep C.I think Kosh is gonna get whats coming to him and that is,as all Americans say “an ass woopin”.
Second I dont hate Gonzaga at all but I cant help but want revenge on him for what he done to Cro Cop who I am a huge fan of.
I think this is a very dificult fight for Randy to win but I just hope he comes up with one of those Einstien like gameplans to defeat the Brazilian who reminds me of the charcter I hated most on street fighter, remember the green guy with the quick hands.
Well it looks like the next four UFCs are gonna be,as all Americans say “AWESOME DUDE COWABUNGA!”

Kendell Grove versus Patrick Cote did I hear that right ? Somehow I think thousands of us just said “who the f0ck cares”
Seriously Cote is a lil chubster and Grove is just another boring guy who will never amount to much in the boring division of the UFC.
Welterweight showdowns
1. Serra vs. Hughes
2. St. Pierre vs. Kos
3. Karo vs. Fitch anyone ?
4. Diego vs. Burkman seems only natural right ?

Far from a boring division…I think many would disagree with the Grove not amounting to much

how can you say kendall grove is boring, everyone of his fights have been fun to watch, and he keeps getting better and better with every win, he’s making himself into a contender dude, and is far from boring…grove/herman was a badass fight, then he dominated price and belcher, plus he’s 6’6" and has all kinds of subs and great cardio and he’s only 24, he’s got a really bright future…

i didn’t realize gonzaga was only 6’1, i thought he was bigger than that and had a size advantage on randy, i guess i was wrong…i’m liking couture’s chances more and more in this fight as the weeks go by, he’s just a confident guy and he trains hard, its gonna be a fun fight to watch…i see it going the whole five rounds and being a really close decision…
