Let me see what I can do about that. Hopefully we can push it off the front page with another post. Sorry about that.

I’m giddy as a school girl for TUF5 finale:

155 lbs.: BJ Penn (10-4-1) vs. Jens Pulver (21-7-1)

155 lbs.: Roger Huerta (17-1-1) vs. Doug Evans (2-0)
155 lbs.: Manny Gamburyan (5-1) vs. Nate Diaz (5-2)
185 lbs.: Floyd Sword (9-2) vs. Thales Leites (10-1)
155 lbs.: Brandon Melendez (7-5) vs. Joe Lauzon (14-3)
155 lbs.: Andy Wang (5-6) vs. Cole Miller (11-2)
155 lbs.: Rob Emerson (6-6) vs. Gray Maynard (2-0)
155 lbs.: Leonard Garcia (9-2) vs. Allen Berube
155 lbs.: Brian Geraghty (17-9-1) vs. Matt Wiman (6-3)

This is gonna be a career death match for Penn and Pulver. Loser’s career is pretty much over. If they action is stalling in the second round, maybe someone will toss a machette in the cage. Loser may as well die- why not.

Looking forward to seeing Huerta fight again. Dude looks really tough. We’ll find out if this “Doug Evans” is another Houston Alexander timebomb or if he’s just a sacrificial lamb.

Not really that interested in Diaz-Gambo. Both winner and loser will continue to compete in future events. Out of all the rest of the TUF fighters, I’m only curious to see how Lauzon does after his surprise loss. See if he is back to his old self.

And I’m curious to see Leonard Garcia again. He seems to be very good at avoiding damage but can he dish it out?

I agree I am not excited about the Manny/Diaz finale because we all know that Manny, Joe, Nate, Matt W, Gray, Corey, Cole and possibly Brandon will all be in the UFC.

I love the “sacrifical lamb” comment, but I think Evans is just going togo in there and get mauled to death by Roger, maybe even a 15 second knockout.

If someone was to throw in a machete into the octagon I would laugh hysterically, I am not that interested into this fight, but I would love to see Pulver pull it off, in MMAPlayground I got a couple of dollars on Penn.

Anyone else think that Wiman is looking like a whiney bitch and sore loser? I hope Geraghty takes it to him.

The 185 fight looks good on paper…
And yeah Huerta is a maniac… not Maine-ac

Well it isn’t unprecidented to get knocked out by a slam when you are the initiator, Mark Kerr did in his last fight ever, plus Lindland did it once if I recall correctly.

So disagree…you cant hold your arm up over your head like that if you are knocked out!!! Who does Rob Emerson know….getting a THIRD fight after losing the first two, and losing again, then having it called a draw!

Yeah BJ Penn pissed me off about the choke, Steve tapped him I dunno probably 8 times then BJ pulled back then let go and that is trashy, no matter how much you hate the guy, when Tito and Shamrock (better rivalry) and Tito stopped shamrock he did not continue punching a broken down Shamrock.

Faber vs. Pulver

Faber takes Pulver down and (T)KO’s him.

I predicted all of the fights excepted for the Melendez/Lauzon fight correctly, I placed 20 bucks down on Melendez, and if I would have won I would have got 220 back.

Gray was out. No contest b/c, well, HE WAS UNCONSCIOUS. If Emerson wasn’t injured, he would have won the fight. Calling it a fix or comparing it to WWE just shows a lack of knowledge and respect for the UFC and MMA.

Penn looked good. He won pretty handily. Though Pulver did a great job defending. Too bad that was almost all he did. They said that Penn is going to 170, that’s a pretty deep pool for him to go swimming in. I guess it’s pretty good for him that he’s a big fish. I just hope that his conditioning doesn’t suffer from the move up.

All in all, pretty interesting.

Oh yeah, Andy Wang BUH BYE! Seems like a nice guy, I hope he gets a job as a BJJ trainer ‘cause I don’t think that MMA is going to work out for him.

by chris on Jun 24, 2007 12:09 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well it was a 1/2 decent show.

Andy wang sucks, why in hell do they put him in there.

Floyd was pretty much spoon fed to Leites

Evans performed well and really could have been the winner of his match but it just wasnt meant to be…

Mendez was not too bad, I am actually starting to like him.

Gray and Emerson are big liars, Gray knew he was out(heck after making his knees he had his head in Emersons crotch) Emerson didnt feel Grays weight go limp, if he were tapping due to pain he wouldnt have any clue what else was going on.

Manny had an ice pack on at the finals last week, I thought it looked wierd. He had it all over Diaz. Nate is very lucky.

Pulver and Penn, From the get go you could tell Pulver was out of the game. He didnt throw any and was on pure defence the whole time on the ground. Penn definitly has the tech over Pulver, I thought he held the Choke on too long… Just a little dirt.

They really have to do something with the whole “TEAM” thing on TUF, its kinda dumb. Once you get so far along in the show the team mentality kinda gets lost.

You almost need 4 coaches each with 4 fighters. Randomly draw from a team then randomly draw a fighter from the team.
and the following week its the other two teams who draw who fights. Or I suppose the Fighters could be selected by the coach and each coach presents his choice simultaniously.
That way you get less potential for lopsided fights.

I would like to see an International version of TUF.

Yeah, but BJ is crazy and who knows what was going through his head when he was doing that. I agree he should have let go sooner, but I wasnt the one in a fight.

What pisses me off is how Penn wants to go back to 170. I understand that his whole philosophy is that martial arts enables the smaller man to take down the bigger man, but his body doesnt seem to want to get much bigger. At least, not as far as muscle mass goes.

I would like to see him stay at 155, but BJ is crazy like that, I guess.

Robbie and Matt can’t say nothing about BJ not letting go right away. They post themselves doing on their sites. If they can man it out after the fight, who are we?

well it look to me bj is on a mission an i think he mite stay at 155 to see how many wins he can rack up his first lost he will then move up to fight matt for a ruber match

Gray should have got’n the win he forced emerson to tap, like Hughes slamming Newton down,= even tho they were both out

true but, because people know this was “controversial” it will make the UFC more $ in a rematch!

WOW, I cant even watch the UFC anymore, it reminds me of the WWE/F.

Pride will always be #1.

Greg Maynard won that fight!

Greg Maynard? We have a new member to ufcmania who just started watching UFC.

imagin BJ walking the streets…a van pulls up..MFS crew gets out and surrounds Penn…you spot BJ in trouble and decide honor is for in the cage…this is street rules…pull an AK and blast them fools like Scareface BITCHES!!! Hilo in this motherf*cker…

BJ looks REALLY good…. best shape he has ever been in. Pulver stole that round at the end though… just like the first fight.

Maybe you WERE watching the first fight lol. BJ owned the 1st this time around.

Yeah. That little quirk combined with a dislocated shoulder and simultaneous tap/ko made this the weirdest UFC night that I can remember.

at 1st, i thought he made a mistake – giving up a good position for a submission that wasn’t there…but he transitioned nicely…i shouldn’t be impressed because I’ve known BJ was good, but damn…way to go man…my f*ckin hero!!!

I always pulled for Gray, he is a bad ass to be sure. BUT to act like he didn’t get knocked completely out with that slam is just stupid and makes him look bad to me. To see him watch the replay and swear he was right as rain there? Just enjoying the win huh.

if Serra beats Hughes…oh..i think i just came in my pants….that wood b the best thing ever!!!….i’d b-cum an instant Serra fan 4 life…but right when people really start 2 believe in him he’ll lose the belt 2 someone like Karo…the cycle will continue…

i think serra has a good chance against hughes, but even if he beats hughes he will have to fight gsp again. i’m asuuming gsp beats kos. but the matchups at ww are endless, even the non-title ones.

by Jo on Jun 24, 2007 2:08 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Diaz is a puss. the only fight that he did good in was his Emerson fight. all the others he got the shit kicked out of him and then got a lucky submission. i think most of the season was luck for Diaz. Corey was beating the crap out of him, Gray was beating the crap out of him, and then he gets lucky and Manny’s arm disslocaded after Manny just got done beating the crap out of him in the first round. I cant wait until Nate gets to fight people who are experienced. He wont be getting so lucky then. And as far a Gray go’s….I dont know. His arm was up yah but he was definitely knocked out when it first happened. then when he rolled over he woke up and thats when he put his arm up.
and remember. DIAZ IS A PUSS!

BJ looked like he could have ended it earlier, but preferred toying with Jens.

As for the WW division, I think Karo-Fitch would make a lot of sense, with the winner being 2nd in line for a shot after Hughes/Serra vs. GSP/Kos.

by Pat on Jun 24, 2007 3:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree with Pat, Penn could have ended it earlier and should have. It seemed like he just let Pulver out f the armbar and just played with him the rest of the fight. Penn all the way!!!! He is one of the best pound for pound fights in the UFC!!!

by t-bone on Jun 24, 2007 3:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I thought that Grey should have retained the win the guy tapped out before he went knocked himself. I also though that Spike interviewed Pulver and recapped with him disrespecting Penn’s win. I think that is what he meant about of you want to know how I feel right now go to BJPenn.com. They treated his win as if it were nothing more than a draw to the show so people will watch. Which don’t get me wrong I know it was to a certain extent but I know just by their facial expressions it was a fight they felt needed to be fought again. But the way they pushed him out of the way so the loser could speak, I would have walked out of the ring. I was just wondering if anyone else seen this too? As for the wb sight I too tried but am getting a error page so who knows it could be a big joke to make a statement I am going to try again tomorrow. See if it, is a real sight being over ran by people wanting to know want he really thought about the way his win was over looked or treated as something staged……just wondering

BJ represented da 808 tonight! The camera shot on Hughes, during the rear-choke submission must have brought back “memories”.

by a1ea808 on Jun 24, 2007 4:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think nates nose is screwed and his tongue is fat or something, I can barely make the guy out.

That whole I am a bad guy routine isnt very convincing.

I am glad he did stand up and stay stuff about his bro and how he thinks hes mistreated… but really its their oraganization they can do what they want.

So Jens is gonna work out with BJ, Weird… He should have done something like that before and teamed up with a top quality Bjj guy.

Maybe Penn felt that Jens had too much momentum going up or he managed to spin his arm, either way he know what hes doing.
I am sure its not a rating thing.

wonder if Hughs started to cry when BJ won

he did, i caught him….he tried to cover his face….like watching the movie Titanic, you knew what would come to happen…sooner or later…against BJ, you sink! Matt Hughes should remember that when BJ moves back up for a rubber match with him later.

by Gweedo on Jun 24, 2007 8:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Bottom line – BJ wants Hughes again. And Ill tell you, Im a huge Matt Hughes fan… but if BJ keeps up with his strength and conditioning, its going to be the hardest fight for Matt Hughes ever. BJ was in absolute phenominal shape… even his arms were huge. Dude keeps working as hard as he did here, he really can be one of the best MMA fighters ever…

by Luppers on Jun 24, 2007 8:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Luppers, lets hear your predictions for Stacked. I say Nate M over Silva, Rashad over Tito, and unfortunatly Sherk over Franca, Fickett over Lytle, Big Nog over Heath, Florian over Robinson, Bonnar over Nickels, and I don’t know enough about Edgar or Bocek…I got 2 go 2 sherdog and c the records…

by Gweedo on Jun 24, 2007 9:17 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i wish Sherk could be more entertaining…its just not his style….Rogan called it a “battle of nutrition” type of fighter…true but boring because we always know what his plans r…ya know

a no contest????
Your kidding me?
A Draw in the UFC, that is a firsti n a while, how do you knockout yourself out from a slam

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Hughes was “out” by a triangle when he slammed Newton to win the title. He had to be told he won. maynard is no different

that was some pure bullSHIT how diaz won

manny was clearly winning the fight and wouldve won the fight had his shoulder not popped out

this shows just how much heart he has; it takes a painful freak accident like that to stop him

manny deserved it more

i hope dana white realizes this and doesnt underestimate him anymore..

I think Gray was out. I watched it in hidef and when he rolled off of Emerson from the side shot his eyes were rolled back in his head, regardless of where his arm was, you get knocked out things go stiff, arms, legs, ect. I’ve been stunned pretty hard a few times in my life, got hit hard enough once to put me down for a stoppage, I could see the guy coming in, could see the ref pull him off, but just couldn’t get my arms or legs to move. Seemed like it took for ever. I wasn’t ‘out’, but it took at good 15 seconds before I could even sit up or focus my eyes completely. So if he wasn’t completely out he was really, really stunned. However to compare it to the Hughs-Newton fight is comparing eggs to oranges. Its what the refs sees at the time, and watching the Hughs Newton fight each time I still wonder if he was out, stunned or what, because it was obvious he didn’t know what had happened. However like the refs decision or not its the decision, and the respectful thing to do is accept it and move on and end the fight decisively next time. I bet Gray learned to not tuck his head down so far on the slam next time.

I think Nate is an underrated kid, hes young and his talent will improve. I do think Manny would have out muscled him eventually, but you can’t take anything away from the kids ground skills. Also someone said the only way Diaz won was by lucky submissions— that shows an ignorances of ground fighting. Theres no such thing as ‘Lucky submissions’. A good ground fighter waits for those opportunities and takes them.

I was pulling for Jens simply because BJ came off like an ASS in the show, and I’ve always been a Penn fan, and anit-mfs (except maybe Spencer Fisher). Sure Penn may have let go of the armbar, but with out being the guy holding the arm you can’t know why. I doubt it was to ‘dish out more punishment’. It was likely he knew that it wasn’t working, or wanted to transition into something else— he did make a nice move into the triangle which Jens did a nice job of pulling out of. BJ showed his true nature by holding that choke well past the stoppage and Jens was 100% class by letting this all be squashed.

gray should’ve WON!! I feel so bad for that dude. He should have won since he fully owned that fight. Emerson barely gave him ANY fight-backs!! I’m glad cole and joe won their fights…soo obvious they would! and of course, NATE DIAZ WON..I was rooting for him the whole time…too bad for manny..hope he gets better.. I know manny will be back for sure! haha I bet that bitch karo is pissed nate won!

So disagree…you cant hold your arm up over your head like that if you are knocked out!!! Who does Rob Emerson know….getting a THIRD fight after losing the first two, and losing again, then having it called a draw!

do you even know what you are talking about? this call was bullshit, matt hughes knocked himself out with a slam and he won his, he didnt even know what was going on. gray should have won that fight.

Yeah but Matt Hughes was came to and was clearly in the better condition. How do you call it when one man is KO’d and the other can’t get off the ground writhing in pain? Not nearly the same thing as Hughes/Newton.
