UFC 75: Michael Bisping vs. Ken Shamrock (Seriously)

Michael Bisping will face Ken Shamrock (26-12-2) -- not Matt Hamill as previously reported -- at UFC 75 on September 8 in London, England, according to Loretta Hunt at FightNetwork.com.
Shamrock -- a UFC Hall of Fame inductee -- retired after his third lopsided loss to Tito Ortiz in October 2006. Besides a technical knockout of a broken down Kimo Leopoldo in 2004, Shamrock hasn't won a fight since 2001.
During that time (2000-present), in fact, "The World's Most Dangerous Man" has been horrendous (2-7).
Shamrock was a coach on season three of The Ultimate Fighter, during which Bisping was a contestant and eventually the light heavyweight winner.
There's no explanation for Hamill no longer being the opponent, especially since Ticketmaster.com promoted the match up.
I can only hope that this is a sick prank being played on Loretta over at FightNetwork.com.
Let's wait to hear the official word from the UFC, which is expected to come in the next few days, regarding this bout and the wisdom behind it.
This should be interesting to say the least.

this has to be a joke, theres no way shamrock would stand a chance. say what you want about bisping he is a top level fighter and shamrock hasn’t been a top level fighter in 7 years. also this would do nothing for bisping moving forwards in the lightheavyweight ranks, whereas beating hamill would have done, on top of that bisping-hamill could have been a great fight

HAHAHAHAHA…….I think it would be great to see shamrock get his face bashed in again, thats always fun for me. Thing is though, Bisping is a true talent in the 205 weight class and the fight would do him no good, theres no step up in competition there for him from Elvis Sinosic (then again I dont think Hamill is that much better than Sinosic either). A great fight would be Bisping vs. Tito or Bisping vs. Bonnar or Forrest, but we would have to wait a while for one of those since all 3 have/will have fought soon.

ok seriously, if this is true, than i am going to lose a lot of respect for bisping. eventhough ‘the count’ doesnt schedule the fights, i am sure he can reject a fight like this. what is he hiding? maybe a weak chin, maybe a lack of focus as we saw in his slight lapse against elvis.
with the recent influx of light heavyweight’s in the ufc, they couldn’t match him up with anyone with a remote chance of beating him? i thought that the hammil fight would have been his first true test in the ufc.
bisping don’t be a company man!

wow.. thats all i have to say, i rather see him figh hamill.. this isnt goin to get bisping anywhere.

I like Bisping ALOT. But I dont think he is at the top of his class yet and dont think the UFC wants to push him forward tooooo fast. This may be good for him. Shamrock a crafty veteran will really give bisping an old school challenge. I think if this happens, we should look at this as a postive. Let these TUF winners go up the ranks and earn a title shot. Lets not expect a title shot to be automatically thrust upon these guys and let them grow. I think the whole point of the show is to allow people to compete in the UFC and work there way up. Shamrock, Tito, Chuck, TitleShot. I dont think it would be bad. I just hope they dont push Bisping too fast. I think in 2 or 3 more fights he will be ready. Just my opinion. Shamrock may not be the best opponent but I think it will be a big growing step for Bisping.

I don’t think Hammill would be a “test,” but it’s a lot more worthwhile match than fighting Shamrock, who was over the hill 5 years ago.

I mean seriously, does any Bisping fan want to see him matched up against… lets say… Shogun right now? Lets let him grow and learn more through training. He is not ready. But I do like him Alot!!!

I think if you take Baby Steps with Bisping, he will grow to be an amazing 205er. Dude is still young, why try to rush it. Seriously, If he fought like Tito and lost, how many people will jump off the Bisping bandwagon. What if Tito fights Rashad and comes out like the old school Tito? Hard core wrestling and vicious ground and pound, even Bisping should look out because I dont think he is ready right now. He will be though.

I too hope that this is some kind of joke with whomever wrote it poking fun at they way they have been babing Bisping’s career. I was really looking forward to the Hamill fight, especially with thier dislike of each other in the TUF house and the contrast in styles.
I can’t believe that Shamrock would be begging for a beating like this. I thought the last ass whooping Tito put on him was his last UFC fight. He hasnt been a decent fighter for at least 6 years.
Bisping is still young, there is no need to rush him, but why put him up against a 54 year old has been? I’d rather see him fight a UFC new comer than fight Ken. I wonder if Bisping was scared to fight Matt Hamill and possibly lose. The fight had be be a 99% done deal for TicketMaster to advertise it. An interesting fight for Bisping would be to put him up against Wilson Gouveia. That way a victory for him would actually mean something. Can you imaging if Shamrock knocks him out? I can’t, but still….
I am a big fan of Michael Bisping, but if had had ANYTHING to do with getting this fight with Ken Shamrock to happen, I lost almost all respect for him, and will be rooting for Shamrock, even though he has the same chance of winning as Tommy Morrison does against Fedor in a real MMA match.

If this is true, they are just trying to give him a recognizable name on his win list. Same thing they did when Franklin fought Shamrock. I agree, I would rather see Bisping fight Hamil. That would be a better fight, but you never know whats going to happen in that cage. Who thought Serra would beat St. Pierre or Gonzaga would beat Cro Cop. Anybody with hands, feet and a pulse has a chance to win.

I’ve heard fighters say they like being punched in the face. Shamrock must honestly be somewhat partial to knuckle-sandwiches. That, or he is broke.

This is crazy but honestly I think Shamrock will put up a better fight then Hammill.I know alot of you like Hammill and think he would beat Bisping but just take a look at that matchup from the prespective of someone who dosnt care for either fighter,Hammill is a great wrestler his standup is awfull and he has no ju-jitsu,Bisping has great standup and great ju-jitsu so what would happen,Hammill would rush at Bisping and take him down,he cant be active in Bispings gaurd or he will get submitted so the ref keeps standing them up and if Hammill tries to strike with Bisping he is gonna get hurt badly.
There is only 2 possible outcomes for that fight Hammill gets submited or he gets KOed.
I dont think it is fair on Hammill to fly him over to London to fight a far better fighter infront of a jeering crowd of 20,000 brits.I honestly think it would be sending the lamb to the slaughter.
A fight against Shamrock may actualy give Bisping the confidence that he can beat the big names and it will be a good show for those Brits who are new to the sport.
I gotta say though this was somthing I never thought I would hear but be pacient we Bisping will fight top names and the best fighters oh and maby even Hammill if he can improve enough.

If you are right about this he will be a force in the UFC’s weakest weight class. There are too many guys with the adition of Dan Henderson (who may drop back down to his natural weight class with a loss), Wandy and Sho Gun who are going to beat Bisping in the lightheavy weight divsion.
A fight I would love to see is Renato Sobral against Bisping. Sobral is coming of back to back losses in the UFC but is still a big name in the lightweight divsion. That would be a fight to see. I agree that Wilson Gouviea, who has 3 UFC fights in a row would also be a great match up or even Lambert after his win over Sobral but not Shamrock. His first loss to tito weent the distance so I didn’t mind having a rematch and then he got creamed but there was conterversy so they fought for free which was cool (and got the highest rating of any fight night I do believe)so it was all right to end his carrer that way. But to come back…I think Shamrock saw what couture did and thinks he can pull off a big win over a rising star or something which is a ridiculas notion!

Oh I hope this is a mistake. I can live with Bisping vs Hamill but vs Shamrock is silly. At least with Hamill there is at least some compelling story background, this is a joke all around.
I will seriously laugh if Shamrock beats Bisping (which IMO is a real possibility)…how are they going to sugar coat that loss.

Yeah I think that they are throwing Shamrock in there to be a stepping stone for Bisping, I really hope it blows back in their faces.
I want Shamrock to win so bad, I got to see a Shamrock vs. Ortiz IV.
So Ortiz can literally beat him into retirement.

Most other MMA organizations have a non-exclusive contract… IFL coaches are non-exclusive, but Im pretty sure their fighters (with the exception of a few decently-main named veterans, tiger white, josh neer..) are exclusive.
Please tell me I am not the only one sitting here hoping that Shamrock brings a fight, show off some of the hay-day Shamrock we all miss seeing.

I think that strangely enough this match-up works for everyone involved.
A) The Bisping and Shamrock TUF connection ensures easy promotion for the UFC
B) The card is stacked with 2 top fights as main events (Rampage vs Hendo, Cro-Cop vs ??) and this fight will do the card no harm.
C)Shamrock draws in the casual fan, he is still a name in the world of mainstream MMA and will always ensure a higher buyrate due to prior activites in WWF
D) Bisping beating Shamrock is a fair match, Forrest has just fought and was not an option, Tito and Rashad are matched up and Bisping isnt ready for the likes of Chuck (banned anyway), Wanderlei and then the top 3 Shogun, Henderson and Rampage. A win puts a big name under bispings belt
Think it would draw alot of interest in England this match up and am kinda hoping its for real…

read an article saying bisping has had a trial run at dropping to 185 but doesn’t feel he can fight properly afterwards an he thinks the LHW division is more stacked so wants to stay there.
i think a drop to middleweight would be great for him. 1st he is not a big LHW an could easily shed off a bit of fat as well as cuttin weight. also he would have a much easier route to the belt

This matchup has to be a joke. I will lose much respect for the UFC if this goes down.
They dont need to baby their fighters. I would still like Bisping after he fought and lost to one of the top fighters. I would also respect his game, a lot more. Seeing these guys handle a loss and come back is part of enjoying the sport.
Plus Shamrock is too old and is now affilliated with the IFL. I highly doubt they would let him fight on another promotion.

I don’t see a lot of extra flesh on him… not like a Jason Lambert or Terry Martin (who made the move already). He would have to be like a natural 195 to make 185. I don’t buy that on weight class is easier than another- not in modern times. Maybe 5 years ago. The level of competition just runs too deep.

Ummm, dude… you see UFC fighters at the IFL events cornering all the time. Tim Sylvia wearing his HW title… that kinda shit.
Dana is under the impression (as most MMA fans are) that the IFL is inferior to the UFC, which if you have watched… it definitely is. There is 100% no competition with the UFC by the IFL for TV time, selling arenas… etc. Granted, I watch IFL, I would go see the IFL live… but would that tear me away from the UFC? Not even for an episode of TUF… Id DVR IFL (shit, thats a good idea, can get passed most of their stupid ass fluff.)
The IFL has a good stance on having a lot of common name coaches… but the blendings and sharing of fighters and cornering mates is getting thicker and thicker in MMA. For instance… we are gonna see Baroni in the UFC if he can KO Frank Shamrock… Baroni has a non-exclusive contract with Strikeforce… Dana made it public that he wants Baroni back if Baroni can make this statement.

Just from a match-up standpoint, I don’t think this is a good fight. Ken Shamrock is over the hill. But in terms of selling tickets and what is good for the UFC organization’s bottom line, this will turn out great. Shamrock is a gifted smack talker. They will splice in clips of Ken saying he feels great and is in the best shape of his life with footage from 10 years ago and you’ll almost be able to hear the register drawer opening.
I just hope they put up subtitles for Bisping’s responses.

Shamrock definetly is chasing the cash. i thought there was one good fight left in Ken. The Rocky Balboa story. I thought Shamrock/Gracie would of been great for one last time. The match is marketbale for one more run and had potential to be a co mian event fight. Open weight of course with both fighters dtermining their terms.

Infact I have actualy been thinking about this and I think its BS,for me neither Shamrock or Hammill is a real interesting fight, hed walk through both of them.
Id love to know how comes when Forrest had his first 2 fights in the UFC no one said anything about his opponents(Sinosic and Mahood) as they have with Bisping.
then forrest’s third fight was against tito ortiz…bisping fought schafer and then sinosic, its time for someone better, ken shamrock is not that someone better, but hamill is no pushover and would be a good test for the count at this point…i want to hear more about this move down to mw, is there any truth to that, he would be a badass mw, i still like him at lhw, but at mw he’s a contender…

Yo whats about fighting Keith (Dean of Mean) Jardine. That would be sick! Even Lyoto Machida might be worth watching as he has beaten Rich Franklin in the past. I’d even rather see Bisping fight Houston Alexander than Shamrock after that demolision performance he gave.

Ken’s agent Donohoo(?) said that he is in negotiations for a comeback, but that NOTHING has been signed, no opponent mentioned, and no dates mentioned. The reporter who broke this, Loretta Hunt, claims a source inside the UFC and one in Bispings camp has told her the that the fight has been proposed. “Proposed” is a looooonnnngggg way from being anywhere near done. The legality of Ken’s IFL affliation is a huge obstacle from what I understand, as he is still a coach of the Nevada Lions. There have also been questioned raised as to whether or not KS can pass a physical. So, just wait on this one. It’s far from a sure thing.
And Mirko has not signed a bout agreement yet for the Kongo fight, so that is also on hold. He was at the press conference announcing UFC 75 in London. Hopefully YTed can get us some Croation news. Some are saying he’s holding out for a bigger named opponent. AA anyone?

I heard the same MTU about Ken’s negotiations. Nothing was brought up at 75 press conference today about the potential Bisping/Shamrock showdown. As for CC I still want him to face Vera

Bisping should be fighting any of these guys not Shamrock(unless Dana wants us to witness Shamrock tarnishing his HOF reputation further):
Forrest Griffin (an english-irish matchup would be HUGE for a UK crowd, bigger than any Cro Cop vs. Kongo/Arlovski/HW can)
Houston Alexander (this guy IS DUE to come back)
Keith Jardine (perfect fight for both Bisping/Jardine to advance in the division)
Tito Ortiz (won’t happen but like Ortiz/Griffin would really allow us to weight Bispings worth in the UFC)
Rashad Evans (again won’t happen because Evans won’t be ready and Dana won’t pit 2 of his rising stars against each other, but would seriously make a hell of a fight)
As for Shamrock, I wopn’t pay to see him fight again unless its some kind of personal grudge match like Frank Shamrock (who he hates). But seriously Shamrock was done since 1997 when he joined the WWE circus and became a rodeo clown. Post WWE Shamrock= free ride for ANYONE with some talent.

I actually see Ken Shamrock winning. He much much bigger than Bisping (who I think should be a middle weight) and I believe that Shamrock has the experience that Bisping lacks. Also, I believe that Bisping is conciderably overrated…

I thought Bisping could make 185. I mean he has fought at 199 lbs before I think. But I saw him after UFC 72 in Belfast in the Hilton hotel and he is a fucking tank. He was playing about with Rampage and let me tell you he’s bigger than him. Given Rampage is probably about 215 after his recent bout with Liddel and Bisping isn’t fighting until September 8. We guessed his weight at around 225 lb. No way is he 6’2’’ though. Myself and a friend saw him waiting to get into the elevator so we decided to get it with him for the laugh. It comes down and who steps out only Quinton Rampage Jackson himself. The lift stopped at the 2nd floor and this kid was standing there and he goes ’Aren’t you one of those fighters and Bisping goes ‘Me!…No.’ Bloody hilarious stuff. Anyways Bisping gets off at the next floor. We get off at the sixth and snook back down to the lobby. We saw all the fighters up close except Okami who was nowhere to be seen. Couture and Vera were there too. All the fighters were having a few drinks except Randy and Rich who went to bed pretty early I think. The rest stayed up all night hanging around the lobby having a few guiness which is rotten let me tell you. Nobody really got smashed, one fighter took this fucking whale of a northern irish woman to the men’s bathroom for oh…I’d guessa a quick bj. I ain’t going to reveal his name though. Sounds like a crock of bull but it’s true swear on my life. Oh yeah security also had to throw out this hooker twice. Most of the fighters left at 8 and others at 11. Poor old Scott Smith had to get the train back to Dublin with us where so he could catch a flight out of the country from. The train is just over 2 hours so it’s not too bad. One last thing, I’d never been to Belfast before but it’s a tiny little deserted shit hole that is an embarrassment to the country, talk about urban decay. Can’t imagine how happy all the fighters and crew were to get out of there.

Bisping would find it difficult too make 185 lbs for sure. Shamrock, Shamrock, poor old Shamrock. If this is true then maybe he’s had one too many Tito elbow smashes to the head. Or maybe he just wasn’t that smart to begin with. Would he really need the money?

I was there to and have better stories than you but I’ll keep my mouth shut, you prat. By the way Randy went to bed at about 2 in the morning after having several LOVELY PINTS OF GUINESS. Take if you were smashed as the docks in Belfast are beautiful were the Hilton and Odyssey are. The outskirts are still a bit rundown but name me any city anywhere in the world that either suburbs or inner-city don’t have poorer rundown areas.

nooooo,,,I didn’t understand, what are they doing with Bisping??? man he’s undefeated, besides he’s one of the top lhw fighter in ufc.he should fight someone top fighter.last time they’ve put him with sinosic(who’s ufc record is 1-5 or something).now they are going to put him with shamrock who has no wins the last times.I’m not agree with that.I think everyone thiks me….

I have lived alot of places Belfast,Derry,Dublin,Newcastle,Dorset,London and even Paraguay and everywhere has its shitholes but I have to say there is nowhere quite as depresing as Derry and Belfast.I was suprised when they said they were having a UFC in Belfast. If they had one in Derry theyd have to hold in the Bingo hall or something like a UFC fight night or somthing with all the LOOsers from the TUF series like Hammill and them lot.
It would have to be free as well coz 90% of people in Derry live on their £80 every two weeks jobseekers alowense.

can a comp your stupid, ..
i really think if shamrock comes out of retiremant he should go up against lesser competition than bisping. bisping is really getting better and better i dont seem to think shamrock could handle the britt. shamrock should fight someone like sean salman, rex holman, jeff newton, victor valimaki…… or even go down to middlewieght i think he would be a tank in that division.

Hamill lose, when exactly, did he not win but wasn’t allowed to fight his next fight and has a 5-0 record, some loser he. Will definitely go to Derry to see ‘them lot’, losers like Bisping, Sanchez, Serra, Evans etc. Get a grip. Suppose pikeys do travel !!!

Give old Ken a break he never got the big money in his time.
It is like giving John Wayne an oscar when he was over the hill.
Ken in his day he could whip all of these young studs.
May his mighty soul and lantern jaw rest in peace after this fight.

Ken is no longer part of the UFC…Dana White released him just recently. He called up his agent Rod Donohoo and told him…not Ken. Dana said that there is no place for Ken in the UFC anymore. Soooooooo….the fight is off. According to Rod…He and Ken are working on some “incredible” things that they will be announcing soon.(Holding breath…)can’t wait for this one. You can get the full radio broadcast on sherdog.
