Nate Marquardt to appear on 'Any Given Saturday' this weekend
We've got some great news.
Nathan Marquardt -- the top contender in the UFC middleweight division -- will stop in tomorrow during the postfight portion of our online radio program, "Any Given Saturday."
Nate will talk with show host Luke Thomas about his upcoming bout with 185-pound champion Anderson Silva at UFC 73: "Stacked" on July 7, as well as provide some thoughts on the UFC 72 showdown between Rich Franklin and Yushin Okami.
He will also -- maybe -- take a few calls from listeners live on the air if time permits.
So let's recap:
Nate Marquardt, Frank Trigg, cash giveaways and more this Saturday afternoon. And, each show only lasts a half-hour each for those with attention deficit problems.
Talk about packing the show wire-to-wire.
Not bad, eh?

I like Nate Marquardt, but in his first title defence he will lose his belt to Rich Franklin.

marquardt is boring and theres no way he can win 3 out of 5 rds. against the spider, he just doens’t do enough, he’s a good fighter, but most of his wins recently are by decision and thats not gonna work against silva, silva is too much of a precise striker to dance around him the whole fight, and he’s got such long arms and legs if the fight goes to the ground nate’s in trouble there too, sure nate is an accomplished grappler, but silva is a different match up than he’s seen…he’s got a chance for sure, he’s strong and smart and could somehow pull off a submission, but i dont’ see it happening unless its something crazy like ryo chonon did, silva is too smart and nate’s not good enough…it would be terrible for someone so boring to be champion anyway in my opinion, he hasn’t even been televised that many times, most fans would be upset if he were to win, rich would knock his ass out anyway if he did win…

That is certainly possible.

Because unless Silva KO’s or hurts him early on the feet, Marquardt is going to demolish him on the ground. Aside from being an Abu Dhabi-level competitor, he’s also got excellent top control. Worst case scenario he rides out a boring decision.
Silva won his fight against Alexander Otsuka, but Otsuka – strictly a wrestler – was able to hold Silva down the entire time. A much more well-rounded, submission and ground/n/pound savvy fighter like Marquardt is going to give Silva all sorts of problems.
Interestingly, he said on Any Given Saturday that he thinks he has the edge in every facet of the game. Ballsy call. Gotta love it.
