Video: Tyson Griffin vs Urijah Faber at GC 42

UFC lighweight Tyson Griffin has been asked a lot about his win over WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber (his only career defeat) in the run up to his showdown with Clay Guida at UFC 72: "Victory" this Saturday.

Griffin says Faber wants no part of him. And I can see the reason that might be true after watching this clip.

This fight took place at Gladiator Challenge (GC 42) "Summer Slam" in 2005. Griffin won via technical knockout in round three.

Boy, did he ever.

Mania, is there a link I can click to see this video? For some reason, I am unable to see the QuickTime videos on this site. I see the ripped film strip with the blue Q in it. I REALLY want to see this fight, and have wanted to for some time now.

Thanks a lot,
ViolentMike

I’m not sure if you’ll have better luck at youtube.com. To check out the direct link click here. It’s highlights — not the full fight — but shows some real nice action.

Urijah Faber would take a rematch with Tyson in a second. This was urijah’s 9th professional fight and i think he has greatly improved since then and i dont any fight that would duck anybody especially a guy that they want to get revenge against.

by KOOLGUY on Jun 14, 2007 12:24 PM EDT reply actions

it was early in Griffins career as well, Griffin does have a decent size advantage against Faber, and caught him clean when Faber tried that super man punch…i still dont get why they have those outdoor fights

It looked like Faber was winning up until that last round, as much as I could tell from that shitty video, at least.

Does anyone know what weight this fight was at, 155 or 145?

UFC 75
On Saturday 8 September, the fastest growing sport in the world is back in the United Kingdom with UFC 75! The O2 Arena will play host to an incredible night of UFC action. The full card is yet to be confirmed, however one fight has been signed that has the entire country’s attention – Great Britain’s own Michael “The Count” Bisping will face Matt “The Hammer” Hamill in a rematch from The Ultimate Fighter 3. This will be the toughest challenge that Bisping has faced yet.

One of two major fights, yet to be announced, may include Mirko Crop Cop’s return to the UK. Mirko is coming off of an upset loss he suffered in Manchester earlier this year and is looking to reaffirm his status as one of the most devastating strikers in mixed martial arts.

UFC 75 – live from the O2 Arena in London – Saturday 8 September!

Bisbing vs. Hammil
Not sure if you have seen this, from the ticketmaster site.

Even in defeat, Urijah looked impressive. I didnt know Tyson was that good of a striker. This just made Frank Edgar look even better.

by Mahde on Jun 14, 2007 12:51 PM EDT reply actions

can a comp, i hope that fight doesnt happen..it seems crappy, but ive heard that prior…i want to discredit it, for the simple fact that they said its a rematch, and those two have never foguht before

also, just to clear things up, fight finder has Tyson Griffin at 2-0 before this fight, and Faber was 8-0 professionally..another convincing win Tyson has is over Bang

I didn’t know about that, Im a little more interested in his next fight now.

I got my first glimpse @ Faber on the WEC show the other day. Dude has talent…
Griffin is a stud, no doubts there, Ill have to try to find this fight later today.

Faber is the destroyer in the WEC, he is fun to watch n tyson is not goin anywhere with his carrerr look at my boy Faber he is d champ now, if him and tyson had a rematch i would definitely watch it and i already know whos goin to win.

The sun was in Uriah’s eyes!

Yup i can tell i was there n it was hot as hell. n mostly everyone was wearing shades. even Faber;s corner man was wearing it.

both those guys are sick ass fighters, faber would do well at 155 and needs to come to the ufc, he’s crazy and people love that, he’d be easily marketable, and tyson griffin is one of my favorite fighters and i think he’s gotten better since that fight too, a rematch needs to happen…

by tha spida on Jun 14, 2007 3:41 PM EDT reply actions

Like someone said, this was a few years ago and he’s won all the 11 fights since.

The rematch will be a huge win for Faber!

Faber is a much better fighter now but I still see Griffen pulling the win. Faber is very unorthodox fighter. Odd movement, ood choices. I’m sure Faber will make the move soon. He will probably come over as the WEC145 Champ introducing the new 145 weight class to UFC. I can see many guys making moves to 145 like Griffen, Garcia, and Pulver as mentioned in another post.

Any fighter can lose to any other good fighter in any given fight. Lidell v Rampage is 2 – 0, but if they fought a third time, I think the odds makers would keep it at or near even. Faber is an awesome showman, but I would like to see him fight some of the higher caliber opponents in the future. After watching Tyson and Faber’s recent bouts, my money would be on Faber. Who ever wins, it would be worth paying to see it go down.

faber would kill griffin! what a joke. Urijah was winning and griffin got a lucky shot. anytime anyday give faber a rematch!

Urijah went up to 155lbs to fight Griffin. Urijah is a 145 lb fighter… It doesnt seem that Griffin could make 145 lbs he’s good size at 155 lbs. Giving 10 pounds differance for a lightweight fighter is giving a lot and to give it to a scrapper like Griffin makes it even tougher.

faber is the man you cant count this one outside in the sun come on how do you expect for fights to be well fought in hot heat thats like flipping a coin anyone can get lucky put them indoors i guarnte fabe will destroy tyson (peter) griffin

by bry guy on Dec 13, 2007 11:07 PM EST reply actions

faber killed curran, and frankie edgar beat tyson. faber would destroy griffin. he’s garbage. all he has is muscle. thats it. faber sumbmitted a black belt under the gracie system in curran. dont think for a minute faber couldnt do the same to griffin.

I would like to see little man Faber fight a real size opponent say a 185lb fighter, its one thing to be the king of the runts but I dont care if you want to act tough and think your a bad ass you should not be afraid to fight anyone. if you ask me they should have a league for real men where their are no weight classes if you want to be a bad ass you have to get in the ring with whoever, maybe the little guys dont want to admit that the tru men are over 200 lbs. 5’ 6" 145 lbs pfft i was that big in 5th grade.

It’s why they have weight classes. Tell you what “true man”, why don’t you scrap with Silva, he’s not 200 lb.
