Spencer Fisher says Joe Lauzon is next

spencer fisher wants joe lauzonSpencer Fisher wants Joe Lauzon. Joe Lauzon wants Spencer Fisher.

And according to "The King" in his post-fight video interview on UFC.com, the lightweight match up is more than likely up next for both fighters.

Fisher — who outslugged Sam Stout in an epic three-round war last night at UFC Fight Night 10 — beat Lauzon's younger brother, Dan, at UFC 64.

Lauzon — who's wrapping up his stint on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 — upset Fisher's Miletich training partner, Jens Pulver, at UFC 63.

The two have some marketable history ... I can already hear the pre-fight promos. It also happens to be a great match up between two aggressive fighters.

As a semifinalist on TUF 5, Lauzon will be in action at TUF 5 Finale on June 23, whether it's in the championship or consolation bout. And since it's less than two weeks away, both fighters have the benefit of timing.

While not yet official, let's hope this happens sooner rather than later.

That would be a good match up. Fisher looked pretty damn good against Stout. I think Fisher would have the advantage though.

Now that would be a great fight. From this, can we conclude that Joe is in the finals? Why would Spencer be calling out someone from TUF5 that wasn’t in the finals? He shouldn’t be calling anyone out from the show except for the eventual champion. Otherwise I find it to be a bitch move. But by no means am I considering Joe to be a bitch. I just find it comparable to Thiago Tavarez winning his fight, and then calling out Andy Wang. It just wouldn’t make sense.

The way Fisher keeps calling him out he must be. Why would you keep calling out a show loser? Someone else beat him and you want to fight him? Not likely. Aren’t Fisher and Pulvedr from the same team? I always disliked Fisher before last night. Dirty looking joker, but I must admit he showed real skill and heart. After the fight he showed class as well. Hard to believe he is a MSS fighter.

dont they all pretty much fight that night on the undercard? I know thats how theyve done it in the passed. So with the exception of the two backyard brawlers, i would assume that most of the guys in the house are training and getting ready for a fight that night

of course its a leak of the outcome of the semis…do you really thing manny stands a chance against a guy who beat jens?

I picked gray maynard to win the tuf 5 finale from the very beginning. He looked almost irish to me and seemed like he was not all about tv time but more about winning his fight. I was hoping he was going to fight Nate or Manny but fighting Lauzon in the semi’s will be his true test to if he will win or not. Only thing that sux is gray is more of a wrestler and if u look at lauzon whens he does his personal time talkin into the camera HE HAS NO NECK!! i guess grays gonna have to submit him some other way other than chokes…lol.

As much as I dont like the Militevich camp, I have to admit, Spencer Fisher’s hands are quick. He defiintely outstruck Stout who showed what an iron jaw is like.

I say Lauzon takes it to Spencer though. Spencer looked like Jens out there, which is a good thing, but Lauzon showed his style matches up nicely against that kind of game plan.

This should be a real good fight, with a good backround behind it. Another fight i would really like to see based on last nights win for mcfedries is Terry Martin Vs. Drew Mcfedries. Both fighters are unbelievably explosive and i still think martin needs to win a few more fights in the middleweight division to get a shot at the title.

Set up another “Giant” for Joe “The Giant Killer” Lauzon. Joe will take down the King in the first minute, pummel him until he’s satisfied with the payback for “The Upgrade” in the next minute and if the ref hasn’t stopped the fight from elbow smashes then Spencer will roll over to escape the punishment and he will go to sleep via RNC.

I give this fight to The King if he fights anything like he did at UFN 10 i think joe will wilt under that kind of pressure. I like both guys though i have always liked Spencer. Joe i think is a great fighter but is rated so high in peoples opinions because of his KO of pulver. either way it would be a good fight to watch.

by Thor1982 on Jun 13, 2007 1:33 PM EDT reply actions

You guys don’t think that he’s calling out an up-and-commer who whooped one of his friends and team-mates? He’s probably just looking to avenge the loss for Jens.

Regardless of the TUF, there’s been a lot of buzz about Lauzon and Fisher is just trying to shore up some more buzz about himself. Besides, Fisher is no dummy and he knows that the Promos would be great “Fisher destroyed his brother. Lauzon destroyed his best friend and team-mate. Now, they meet to try and destroy each other.” YadaYadaYada. Where’s my paycheque.

by Freddy on Jun 13, 2007 1:34 PM EDT reply actions

I imagine he is calling him out because he is getting some popularity right now and he knocked out Jens not to long ago. If Fisher and Pulver are training partners, I can only assume that they are friends, and if someone beat one of my friends, I would want to beat that person. Not to mention on the other hand that Fisher beat Joes little brother. It’s just a highly marketable fight, even if Joe loses the consultation fight (hypothetically speaking), I think Fisher will still call him out. I predict Joe winning at the end of the first with some GnP.

by Matt on Jun 13, 2007 1:36 PM EDT reply actions

What kind of call out is Joe Lauzon for Fisher?? Fisher fought a good fight last night but whats the big deal with Joe. My guess is Joe is in the Championship against Nate Diaz. I actually have him winning that. Which would put them in good position to fight eachother following the finale. Fisher is on his way up and Joe the new 155 TUF Champ. They got beef but I didn’t think it was that serious. Hey…I wont dispute seems like a good fight on paper

Wow I didnt even think of this match up. I guess I wasn’t very impressed with Mcfedries until last night (bad performance against Kampman) but yeah that fight would be explosive as hell. I really hope Joe Silva thinks about that match.

by Stafo on Jun 13, 2007 1:47 PM EDT reply actions

You guys need to do a little more research on Joe Lauzon. He is the real deal and not because of the Pulver fight. The people from the New England area are very familiar with the force that is Joe Lauzon. The rest of you need more convincing. I suggest you find the video clip which shows most of Joe’s fights including beating his brother Dan on a grass lawn. Spencer Fisher keeps calling out Joe because any serious MMA fighter wants to beat the best out there. Spencer knows that the man to beat is Joe “The Giant Killer” Lauzon.

I think its HILARIOUS that anyone on this site thinks of Lauzon as ‘a young fighter’ or barely pro. Lauzon is an ANIMAL, Fisher is calling out Lauzon because Lauzon is seriously one of the guys to beat in the division, its not because he is a weak fighter or still young and developing.

Id love to see this fight.

Mania is busy changing diapers ( ;) :p ) so I’ll take this one. Its a sub match, just like an ADCC bout. No striking of any kind. They will start standing just like a wrestling match. Winning is on points or via tapout. I’ll have to check this, but normally to instill aggression, there are no points awarded for the first five minutes of the bout. It gives the fighters freedom to shoot without fear of getting turned and lose points.

And to the old school UFManiacs, how many times have I posted that J-Lau video? ( Wow, we’ve been around long enough for some of us to be old school now…scary ).

In my opinion, fisher would get beat. Fisher has great striking skills, but we haven’t seen much of a ground game and with lauzon being as bright as he is i believe he would exploit fishers weakness on the ground. I really don’t get why they are in a feud right now, but i think lauzon is going to win tuf and then beat fisher also.

You all know Babalu is my favorite fighter, win or lose. But this isnt MMA. This is ADCC style grappling. Comparisons to MMA dont apply. It’s like back when the ADCC was going on and ppl were ragging on Elvis. Love him or hate him in MMA, he is very good at this game. Same with these two. Mir may be washed up cause of the accident and Babalu may have been in too many wars early in his career for either to continue successfully in MMA, but both still have it in this kind of match. Mir outweighs Renato by at least 50 lbs but then again 170 lb Mach once beat 285 lb Ricco Rodriguez at the ADCC so anything can and does happen.

it bothers me that everyone is raving about the fisher/stout fight. brawls suck
this is what we learned…

stout does not move that well
fisher has only moderate power
stouts chin is pretty good
fisher cuts easily

i really think the ufc should start putting brawlers like mcfedres up against guys that are sick at subs. i really dont want the ufc… dare i say it?… to turn into bare knuckles boxing. remember that this guy just barely got choked the eff out by kapmann.

Fisher’s not calling out Lauzon because he’s one of the guys to beat. Let’s be for real it’s personal. Lauzon is good but the top guys in the division are Sherk, Franca, Florian, Stevenson, and Penn. Not to mention some of the talent that will be coming over from PRIDE soon. It will be a great fight. Fisher looked crisp as hell last night but I will still go with Lauzon.

by Stafo on Jun 14, 2007 1:02 AM EDT reply actions

I don’t see why fisher should be calling Joe out until after TUF finale. Face facts Joe did get a little lucky with Pulver in UFC63, and I think he will admit to that cuz the way he landed that punch it woulda knocked out anyone in that weight class. But its MMA and this type of stuff does happen. I’m not saying Joe is a complete fluke, just that the way that fight ended in UFC 63 is not something you can expect to see every time the two of them confront each other.

Ficher just wants to avenge his teammate, thats all. And with all the defeats that camp has suffered recently, including losing 2 titles from hughes and sylvia, they are itching to make it back to the elite ranks. Fisher beating Lauzon, Hughes beating Serra and Sylvia restablishing himself among the HW contenters in the next 6 months will get them back as an elite team in the UFC and MMA in general.

As for seeing Fisher fight Lauzon, I gotta go with Fisher in that bout. Lauzon is highly overrated right now with his ufc 63 upset and his wins in TUF5 but he has a lot of potential. Fighting him sooner than later will be a much easier task for Fisher and will certainly position him in line for a shot at the title. Fisher has the advantage of size and experence, and if you match up all their strengths, fisher does look like the stronger fighter.

I do think that Joe is a good fighter, just not championship contenders material yet. A few more fights in the Octagon and some better training will change all that. I can eventally see him as a champion one day, just not in the immediate future.

by liukangstoupee on Jun 14, 2007 2:11 AM EDT reply actions

somebody mentioned mcfedries on here earlier and i have to say i wasnt that impressed even last night….if you go back and look at the fight you’ll see (I did anyway) that it doesnt even look like he ever hit radev that hard, except for when he was already out. but going back to fisher vs. lauzon….yeah lauzon is def a force to be reckoned with at 155 and it is a very marketable fight. does anyone else have a problem with fisher’s usual attitude in the octagon? Take his fights against Wiman and Dan Lauzon…he beat them fairly easily and then danced around the octagon like he accomplished something huge. Way to go spencer, you beat a couple of kids. He was pretty classy last night though, I have to say. Sorry for the long winded post, lauzon wins if they fight.

by Gary Lester on Jun 14, 2007 6:20 AM EDT reply actions

Spencer is simply trying to use good business sense. He is, by nature a shithead, after he wins a fight. The reason he wasn’t after the Stout fight was because he knew the result sets up another big payday for him with Fisher/Stout III. The rivalry thing is typical UFC ala WWF audience bait. He has nothing against Joe Lauzon other than he knows Joe could be his next meal ticket.

I watched Fisher vs Stout on SpikeTV the other nice. It was a amazing fight for people that do not like grappling as much. Slug fest at its best, and i don’t mean wild swinging of arms and legs, with technical striking of arm and legs. Fisher and Joe will be definitely a good fight, but joe is still my choice, this beast puts the pressure on and doesn’t let off. I pick Lauzon to win TUF 5. Gray is my 2nd choice. And its good business to announce who u wanna fight in the next fight and picking a HOT opponent at that.
