UFC Quick Quote: 'TUF Killer' ready for Singer at UFC 72

"... I am fully recovered from the [Rich] Franklin fight and am ready and eager to step back into the cage. I leave for Ireland on Monday June 11. I have trained very hard for this fight and I look forward to getting back to my winning ways. The TUF killer is back!!"
-- UFC middleweight Jason MacDonald updates his fans via MySpace regarding the upcoming bout with former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Rory Singer at UFC 72: "Victory" on June 16 from Belfast, Ireland. It's a fight between two well-known fighters -- both coming off of recent UFC losses despite prior success in the Octagon -- that not too many people are talking about.

I still don’t understand why he calls himself the TUF Killer when he’s lost to Kalib Starnes, Patrick Cote and Shonie Carter.

Im thinking he may get Kendall if he beats Rory. Could be a good fight but McDonald would have to do something about that stand up.

I swear we’re brothers. I just said that not 7 hours ago at training today.

i say mcdonald by rear naked choke in round 2, and if he fights kendell next that would be a damn good fight, but they wouldn’t be calling him the tuf killer after that one…

Exactly…. Not to mention the guy was outclassed by light years against Ace. I would like to see Singer win this and I can’t stand the guy either

Rory Singer has no business on a PPV card.

I am no big fan of Rory, but I am nor real fan of McDonald. I say Rory loses, by either GnP or Decision.

Any one look at how close some of MacDonald’s fights are? He got KTFO 2 weeks before his fight, 30 seconds 1st round. Gotta be a little gun shy after something like that. Not saying Franklin wouldn’t have rocked him if he hadn’t had that fight, but thats gotta take something out of you.
Anyway, kid fights alot, and he’s entertaining win or lose.

Other than Grove and Bisping, noone off TUF3 impresses me. I don’t think I’m alone on that one and that’s part of the reason why they went with guys who at least had some exposure for TUF4. I’m not saying Singer, Starnes and Herman will never amount to anything but they have a long, long way to go.
I’ve kind of delighted in watching Okami and McDonald put these “TV stars” away.

Excellent match up- that would be a step up for Grove and a gotta win for McDonald. Grove would probably try to keep it standing I would think.

This might be a good fight Singer looked good against Okami.

To be fair, he only became the TUF Killer once in the UFC. Those losses were all previous to his UFC career. Once in the UFC, he has been 2-0 against TUF competitors so I think it is fair.

To be even more fair, Cote and Carter were UFC vets and recognizable names long before appearing on TUF. Starnes is the only one of the bunch who is known because he was on TUF.

That is one aweful pic of J-Mac. And I think that it is difficult to gauge a fighter on fights that they’ve had a couple or three years ago. These guys train hard and improve quickly. Look at Kos’s stand-up, isn’t he a wrestler? But he’s gotten much better over a short period of time. And isn’t there some guy named Serra who just showed that he could get a lot better at one aspect of his fight game in a realtively short period of time. I just think that you have to weigh each fight as it comes.

MacDonald needs to work on his standup, but I like him in this fight by sub. Singer probably naps at the end of this one.
by SaVaGe on Jun 6, 2007 10:33 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He’s eager for another beating eh, I wouldn’t mind seeing it. I agree with SaVaGe he really needs to work on his stand up he looks like shit on his feet, almost as if he has no stand up training. He is dangerous on the ground though, I’ll give him that, for some reason I don’t care for the guy and I’m Canadian too.

I dont think I would put McDonald much higher then alot of the TUF fights on the depth chart. Guy is a good athlete, but not a refined fighter… as Franklin showed.

It’s looks like he’s humping the dude. But yes, we like to have little fun with banners. Glad some people can find the humor in them.

Luppers,
I would rate him a bit higher than that, especially on the ground. That Herman triangle was brutal and the Leben choke was sick. That’s two TUF guys that he handled, though he was in trouble with Leben a few times standing up. He has got to do something about his striking to progress. He is not an A tier fighter like Ace, but much better than TUF IMO.

DIdnt Rory used to train Franklin in jiu-jitsu? I say Rory handles MacDonald. He has much better standup and his ground game is good enough to avoid any serious danger on the ground. I know that Herman submitted him, but I think that was just a style thing. Rory cant defend the wrestler. MacDonald is no wrestler.
by Mahde on Jun 6, 2007 1:26 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
MacDonald fought Starnes, Cote and Shonie before any of them were on TUF. Semantics.
I agree that Rory has no business being on ppv, let alone in the UFC. Does this guy strike fear into the hearts of the fighters he fights? I doubt it.
Hopefully this year, with the remarkable addition of so many Pride fighters, etc, will be the end of D-tier fighters wasting our time in the UFC.

With that gloved hand in the shot, it looks more like he is being consoled after his proctology exam.
