UFC Quick Quote: Shogun to debut in July?

"There is nothing right yet, but I believe that I will be back to fighting in July."
-- UFC star light heavyweight acquisition Mauricio "Sho Gun" Rua speculates via Tatame.com that he will make his Octagon debut in July -- he did not mention an opponent. However, the only event on the books for that month right now is UFC 73: "Stacked" on July 7, and that card is complete. Stay tuned.

That card is complete. He’s either mistaken or another event will be added that month with him on it.

I posted that link, well the you tube version of the link on another story, but I think he has the skill set to do very well. I mean a NCAA Champ Training with MFS (hate them or love them, they do bring people up good, Pulver, Hughes, Sylvia just to name a few) Training with Renzo Gracie = A very good recipe for a MMA Fighter in my opinion. The imense power that Brock has is insane. The way he passed threw that guys guard with no effort what so ever was insane. I would love to see Brock up against some better competition. Myself being a former WWE fan and remember all of Brock’s short lived WWE career I would love to see him one day make it to the UFC but I guess a more relastic and sooner thought would be the WEC.

Cant say that is the best idea, just because I am a HUGE babalu fan, and I would not be very happy if he lost 3 straight and found his way out of the UFC.
I would LOVE to see Lyoto Machida vs. Shogun Rua that would be a great amazing fight to see.
But it does not matter, the time is only ticking on Rua, because Tito Ortiz is going to take him out, only a matter of time.

If this guy has some hands and a decent chin I think he could give even Couture a hard run. History shows Randy wouldn’t like fighting such a big powerful wrestler. Plus I was pleased to see Lesner come in around 265 the UFC max weight for HW. Just a little to early to crown him yet but he is only 30 so he has a little time. I don’t watch that type fighting and didn’t know they had people of that caliber.

Rua/Sobral seems great but a Sobral loss would take him out forever, which at this point probably is of no worries to the UFC. If he joins the Stacked card, it will truly earn it’s name of Stacked. That damn card is already awesome. I can’t see him fighting on Spike, but maybe to expose him more to the American fans. Love this guy. Very excited to see him fight

As much as I or anyone else would like to see Shogun fight on a free event, Dana White would not be THAT generous. Furthermore, ufc73 card is pretty much solidified. If they threw Shogun in ther it would not be fair to him or his opponent for taking a fight on such short notice.
I honestly think his appearance would be on UFC 74 or more likely 75. UFC 74 is already looking to be a pretty good one with Couture/Gonzaga which also expects to feature Sylvia/Mir, and the 1st appearance of Big Nog (and possibly St. Pierre/Koscheck). Shogun on that card would make it stacked, but won’t leave much room for ufc 75 which should see the return of Cro Cop. Furthermore, he is an international star, which will make him an ideal attraction in London.

Yeah 73 is done for good. Sylvia and Mir have apparently been scracthed from 74 according to a prev. arcticle. And BIG NOG is on 73, which is another reason it is stacked. Pretty much 74 only has Randy/GG, Shogun should be on 74 at the latest.

Crocops got better stiking than Shogun and look what happened to him,he might just take the transitiion from ring to cage too lightly.

I think he should fight Matt Hamill as his first UFC fight.

Babalu won the 1st fight why doesn’t antone think he can win this fight if it happens and alright there is alot of people that says Shogun is unstoppable but, sure everyone says that about Chuck and look what happened to him.

I have been thinking about this, and I would LOVE to see Shogun debut in UFC 74! Particularly now the Sylvia/Mir fight looks as if it is dead in the water – introducing the UFC faithful to Rua & Nogueira as some juicy little entrees to the Gonzaga/Couture main event would ensure an absolute BELTER of a card!
If they name Shogun on that undercard – I will put in my PPV booking tomorrow – put it that way! Not that I’m gonna miss Napao put Randy down on his backside live anyway……but still…
Come on – DO it Dana!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know you want to. And you know we want you to – so what’s stopping you? ;)

It was a hard-fought victory for Sobral. Now that Shogun is more polished, the task will be that much harder. Especially since Sobral’s recent tendency of thinking that he’s a striker which he demonstrated by trying to stand with 1st Chuck & then Lambert. If Sobral has learned something from his last 2 losses & plays to his strength’s (ground game) then he still stands a chance.

Shogan vs Machida(Sobral) UFC 74
This would be a match-up that would bring the best out of both fighters. I think it would be a perfect situation for both to showcase their skills but it’s too early in their UFC careers for this fight to happen.

Man, I want Shogun to get some exposure first before he steps in with Machida. Machida has a habit of beating the top level talent, and I still feel he’s a top five fighter even with the recent influx of Pride talent. He has one of the most important tools in MMA, a brain. The dude fights smart. He’s incredibly technical. Big difference between avoiding contact, a la Poopie and AA, and fighting your game to grind out a decision.

And go to DM and search “Machida” and watch the Heath fight. If you dont find that thrilling, you may not yet understand all the aspects of MMA. It’s a good fight to appreciate the mental aspects of the game. Great performance by both. How anyone can call that boring is beyond me.

A card might be good, but is it worth all the hype. just wondering. what if Tito get knock out in 2 second or what if sherk trip in the octagon while he is entering and broke his ankle. huh
by St. Amour on Jun 5, 2007 10:20 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I would rather see Rua/Bonnar or even Rua/Sobral in his debut. Rua/Machida is too risky. He needs the exposure but he needs a name to stand in there with him. I’m sure he would love to get tha loss back from Sobral. Machida posses a strong threat in 205 and I would like to see him up there as well. A loss for either one of these guys would throw them out of contention. His debut is looking more like 74. Which would be great! Already have RC/GG, GSP/Kos, and Rua would be a great add. Sylvia/Mir looks like it’s out. This event is stacked as well if it looks like this. Plus Huerta is scheduled to fight as well, probably opening bout of the PPV.
