UFC Quick Quote: Spencer Fisher calls out Joe Lauzon

"Joe Lauzon. I'd like to fight him.... I think he is a one trick pony. Not to take anything away from when he fought Jens. He always goes for the takedown and I think I can capitalize on him coming in. I know exactly what he is going to do. He's going to try and take me down and I just have to stop that and bring it to him."
-- Top UFC lightweight Spencer Fisher tells MMANews.com in a recent interview that he wants to fight The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 contestant Joe Lauzon sometime in the near future. Lauzon beat TUF 5 coach and Fisher training partner Jens Pulver last year and Fisher has a UFC win over Joe's younger brother, Dan. Some nice background there.

That would be a good fight. Spencer is the Business and J-lau is the business of the ufc light weights now and tomorrow. I would for sure want to see these 2 square up.

to be honest, i just lost a little respet for Spencer..whats his record in the ufc, calling out a guy with only one fight in the ufc, whats the point? especially saying he wants to fight him becuase he knows he can beat him…i think it would be a good fight, and joe could avenge his brothers loss to spencer, and spence could avenge jens loss..is this a foreshadow of who is gonna be in the finals of the show i wonder?

Men to tell u the truth i Think Spencer will get dominated just like His buddy Jens. Lauzon’s ground n pound is ridiculously strong. One punch from the mount n it is over for fisher. N he finishes his fights.

How’s J-Lau not championshp quality? He defeated the 1st and possibly the greatest UFC Lightweight champ ever. Call that punch luck or a fluke, but it was Pulver’s fault that he didn’t come fully prepared to fight.

What is his deal with saying that Lauzon is a one trick pony? Lauzon didnt GnP Jens, he knocked him out. I would respect Spencer a little more if he called Lauzon a two trick pony. But then again, you have to look at the leg locks he was putting on Cole and he is suddenly a three trick pony.
SPencer should be proud though. He beat up Lauzon’s younger brother who was like 18 at the time.

Not sure what his deal is, but isn’t Lauzon going through the ranks at the TUF series? Why talk about a guy just because you think you can beat him. IMO, I think he’s looking for an easy win, and a way to keep his name in the papers.

Fisher’s crap anyway. Hopefully Joe would kick his ass into another time zone

Wow, who would expect this sort of dickheadish behavior from a Miletich fighter?

Yup dickheadish. They should call there camp The Dickheadish Camp.

Gree this fight would be good, but Fisher better hope he gets through Stout first. As for Joe he has done nothing but impress the organization and the fans. Mazzagatti was getting on my nerves with that hitting on the back of the head thing in his last fight against Cole. Even with the point deduction Joe was by far the more superior fighter. My prediction says Lauzon will win the show as he deserves. He already holds that"W" over Jens Pulver. This guy will soon be ready to compete amongst the top 5 155ers. Fisher is good but I will go with the upcoming stud on this one (Joe Lauzon)

Mazz was all over Lauzon during a ultimate fighter semi fight. What the hell was up with him during that Terry martin/Ivan Salavery fight this past Saturday? It was prematurely stopped and it ended on several hammer fists to the back of the head.

And my question during the fight was why deduct a point from Lauzon for the elbow, but let Cole get away with kicking a man in the head while he is down?

not takin anything away from joe, but u think fisher would call out someone wit a little more experince. this fight wouldnt get fisher up in the rankings. and it would make joe look real good if he won.

I said the exact same thing to my buddies. Keen eye Stafo.
Also, Spence needs to focus on getting past Stout & stop hating on Lauzon before Stout Mui Thai’s him into submission.

Wow thats what Fisher is looking for huh. That’s as bad or worse then Timid Tim wanting to fight Frank Mir at this point in his career. Another classy move by this team.

I like Spencer but I don’t think he’s gonna get past Stout. I saw Stout fight my jiu jitsu teacher Fabio Holanda at the last TKO show in Montreal and Stout was a monster. He has better hands than Fisher and his takedown defense is phenomenal. Gonna be a great fight, I can’t wait!

Ding, we have a winner. Exactly.
Calling Joe Lauzon a one trick pony is ridiculous. I took what Fitch said to heart the other day, but then Fisher pops his head up with this crap. J-Lau has BJJ, Gnp, boxing, MT, and wrestling. He is VERY well rounded for a kid his age. I guess Spencer cant use a PC since there are a ton of vids out there showing Joe’s complete package.

If Joe Lauzon wins TUF, him and Spencer Fisher will be the next coaches on TUF 7 before they fight =(
I think if this match-up were to occurr, I must say I think Joe Lauzon would win via (T)KO because if you look at Hermes Franca and you look at Joe Lauzon they are almost similiar and what happened to Spencer Fisher when he fought Hermes Franca?
I’ll leave that for you to figure it out.

Man, and Spencer Fisher was one of the few Miletich guys that I actually like. It is definitely a punk move on his part calling out Joe Lauzon. I hope he gets his fight and gets KTFO in the first round.

I can’t recall where I read it, but Joe has said in a previous interview that he would like to fight Fisher—mostly because of all of the shit-talking Spencer did to his kid brother (Dan) after he won that fight (which Dan took on very short notice if I recall).

I’m feeling Joe Lauzon/Nate Diaz in the finals. And as past Tuf Finales it’s going to be a war. Penn Pulver fight to follow. Wow! looking forward to this free event

I think Spencer is feeling the pressure of the new blood about to hit the lightweight division and he’s getting nervous. He lost out on his title shot by losing to Franca so he’s resorting to talking junk to keep some press and exposure on himself. It’s a Tito Ortiz type move

Fisher had his hands full with “Handsome” Matt Wimans before Wimans basically asked Spencer to knee him in the face.
Spencer Fisher, the TUF 5 killer?

Yep, its totally a ‘my brother’ type of thing with Jens and Spencer. Fisher is a NASTY fighter, but Lauzon can beat anyone in the 155lb division outside of the muscle shark – which he just might be able to beat aswell..

Same here, I hate the Miletich camp, but I do love King Fish. Kind of ridiculous for wanting to fight J-Lau though.

Whoa, uhh, No. He’s a reality TV fighter, who knocked out Jenns Pulver. A really good reality TV fighter, like Forest Griffin, Joe Stevenson, Rashad Evans, and that is awesome, but he is no where near the caliber that Sherk fights at, or any 155 contender. Not Yet anyway.

Spencer was in alot of trouble and got slamed hard against his little brother and i see Joe a much better fight than his brother, so i think Joe has Spencer’s number in this one.

I like fishers style of fighting, but I definitely think J-louzon would submit or GnP him.

Name some names of fighters @ 155 he cant beat? Kid has banger style along with some appearent sick jujitsu.
I dont mind someone saying Im wrong, but please drop some names. Outside of Franca, Stevenson, Sherk… I dont see many UFC fighters giving this guy a fight. Especially if he continues progressing the way he has.

You guys are going nutz over nothing. He was asked a question and answered it. The Kings not gonna get a title shot for a while, he wants to fight some of the bigger names in the division. I dont agree with Melvin being top in the division but the ufc did.

Spencer Fisher is the “poor man’s Jens Pulver” he is a joke. Lauzon is young, talented and tough!
Guys like Lauzon will be the future and I think Fisher has a ego problem. the guy is insecure.
Why not just call out Sherk or Franca?
I just call out someone I Think I can beat? Sounds like a school bully….. and bully’s always get their asses whooped.

i think fisher is just like all the other millitech fighters, whine and make excuses when they lose, brag and snicker when they win.
by bw on May 31, 2007 12:52 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Joe is on the way up and Fisher is on the way down. He is simply trying to grab on to Joe’s coattails in an attempt to get back on top. A fighter must never look past his current opponent. As far Joe vs fisher, Joe could beat him with one ear tied behind his back.
by MrFye on May 31, 2007 1:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
lol thats funny the whole ear thing. but to be serious i think Joe would dominate. Joe is good at everything. expeacialy his ground and pound. if your fighting Joe you had better hope he doesnt go for the take down. why? because first he will slam you with a lot of force then once your down you had better look out for his elbows. did you see his fight with Brian on TUF 5? he nailed him into the ground once with it (Brians lucky that he didnt get knocked out on that one) and the second time it barly missed his head. did you see how hard his elbow hit the ground??? if he does that to Fisher…well Fishers done.
by MurrCat on Jun 1, 2007 11:36 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Joe would bang out fisher just like he did jens, and his brother dan would have banged him out as well if he had more than a week and a half to train. fisher was training for 3 months for the fight, dan trained for a couple weeks, and dan looked like he was going to win until he gassed. either one of the lauzon brother would beat fisher, and i cant wait to see joe make light work of him. and who ever thinks he is a one trick pony or not championship quality hasnt got a clue. in another year Joe will be at the top of the 155 pounders

spencer is the best fighter at 155 in the ufc mark my words he be champ. He is just out of joe’s league
