UFC Quick Quote: Fitch winds down training forCarneiro

jonfitchufcfighterinterview.jpg

"Thats right, its almost fight time. This is the last hard week of training and then I will taper it down in order to recover so that I will peak right at fight time. Im feeling great and getting really excited about fighting on Spike TV, especially after watching UFC 71 last night. A lot of good fights, it always gets me amped to compete after I see a show. I am also excited because after my fight I am doing a seminar back in Indiana, it will be nice to go back home, its been a while. Ill have more details about the seminar later."

-- It's almost fight time indeed ... UFCmania.com-sponsored fighter Jon Fitch provides an update on his training via MySpace for his upcoming bout with Roan Carneiro at UFC Fight Night 10 on June 12 in Hollywood, Florida.

Since he’s winding down, could we get his reaction to 71, possibly. Be interesting to here what he thinks.

more upsets? they have all happened already, all the belts have swapped. And I dont think Franca is that much of an underdog against sherk.

-180 at most.

I personally think that Franca has a legitimate shot at Sherks title. However, a prepared Sherk at 155 is a real problem for anyone to overcome. If Franca can catch him with one of those wild over-hands or manage to put Sherk on his back then we may see that belt change hands. On the other side, if Sherk is able to shake off that rust from being out for a year now then Franca has a long road ahead of him at UFC 73. Damn thats one mean fight card!

Question: What does Roan bring to the table against Fitch?

by Machine on May 28, 2007 7:58 PM EDT reply actions

My reaction to this past weekend and to the rest of this years upsets is that they aren’t really upsets at all. Most fans, even the die hard ones dont really know anything about the fighters they watch. Just because you haven’t heard of someone does not mean they are not a better fighter. I would say fans really only know what they are told as far as fighters go. To much hype in the sport, I feel that we should just let the fighters fight and see who wins. Enough with the this guy is so great talk. Let their fighting do all the talking.

Roan brings sick BJJ and great wrestling. He is very fast and very strong. I am really looking forward to the challenge.

Thanks Fitch, any idea where I may find some video on him? Also, what do you all think of his chances against Jon Fitch, in other words, how do the 2 match up?

Thanks Jon, for chiming in. It means a lot.

I posted a review of this bout ( ouch, Jon said we should just shut up and watch, but hey, what’s being a fan all about anyway ) on another thread. But as the man himself said, Roan is a BJJ animal, great wrestling and grappling, and quick as he77. His hands are not much of a threat past a puncher’s chance. But like most Brazilian fighters, his Muay Thai is very good. JF is the complete package, skills in all areas, but I’m sure he isnt taking Roan lightly at all. All BJJ guys are dangerous. And anyone trained by Master Murilo and Big Nog IS a dangerous opponent.

This should be a fanastic “Hello World” moment for Fitch. Finally we get our guy in front of the masses.

Good luck, Jon from all the guys and gals at UFCMania. I know your stoked to be on tv FINALLY!
Peace, MTU.

Well I dont really mean shut up. Just know that in order to really be an expert about a fighter you need to have seen every one of his fights, seen his sparring and who is sparring with, who his coaches are and for how long they have been with them, how their trainers have done training other fighters, and how the fighter does with certain styles. Know all that and you still are only getting to the surface of the fighter.

And yes, I am really fucking excited about getting to be on TV!!!!

Thanks Fitch & MTU. Much appreciated.

Fitch,
I wish you the best of luck on the upcoming match. It’s good to see they put you in a good position to be on TV.

I thought you should have had Burkman’s slot against Karo last weekend.
