Kalib by sub eh? Man, that would mess up Leben’s plans. The Silva loss and even the loss to McDonald are not huge problems. Those guys are at and near the top. This is probably just supposed to be a confidence builder for Lebeen and a GTFO for Starnes. The TUF fighters have to be shown the door at some point.

Rampage will give Chuck no space to operate..Rampage is a super beast..don’t get me wrong Chuck is a warrior, but my heart and head tell me Chuck will get powerslamed a few times, he’ll get up maybe twice, but there’s that last slam where Chuck will not get up from and Rampage is on top..overall it will not be a good night for the iceman when he meets the icebreaker.

Yes he will. Rampage is going to make Chuck look bad. Styles make fights and Chuck’s style does match up well against Jackson.

Don’t speak too soon. Rampage is not Tito, Babalu etc. and can definitely take a hit and is not scared to take a huge hit. Iceman’s fans are going to have to come to realization someday and know that the Iceman can be beat.
Rampage – TKO GNP
Salaverry – Sub
Parisyan – Dec.

Interesting little article about Hackleman on Liddell here:

Whenever he hear lately a fighter is “on his game” he seems to lose. We shall see.

I hope Chuck wins, but I’m starting to lose confidence…
Did anyone else notice that Spike TV was really promoting Rampage in lastnights UFC 71 Countdown, and then again on UFC All Access? I won’t be surprised if Chcuk is the underdog going into this fight (in terms of betting).

IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!

I agree LongIslandGuy. Kalib is going to pull of the submission. He’s a good fighter. He lost to Okami, but Okami is a beast. That’s a loss most middleweights would have if they fought Okami. Leben’s losing streak continues. Good pick LongIslandGuy.

Dag, almost Xact opposites. We both took Jardine so he’ll probably lose. If we split the others we’d be tied with a sucky 2-3. BUT, since I’m gonna be 5-0, that puts you at a very sad 1-4. Hope you don’t have any retirement money in there.

UFC 71 Winners:
-Liddell
-Salaverry (apparently he’s a Canadian boy – so l’ll pick him)
-Jardine (a future contender for the belt)
-Parishyan (this is the toughest fight to call, I see Parishyan and his ego holding the belt one day)
-Leben (Leben rocks!!! Though Starnes is a Canadian, he’s got a shit attitude and little wotk ethic, as seen on TUF. Some of you will say Leben’s an idiot, but I find him funny and hope he knocks Starnes out)

Another Junkie reader makes his presence. Could we get a little explantion and analysis over here please. Sean Salmon will KILL Fedor in their next bout. Danny Abaddi has challenged Chuck Liddell and I guarentee he’s gonna win.
It’s so easy to post…..but to try and prove…..with a little INTELLIGENT INSIGHT….please?

I guess it got deleted since I dont see that post. Pretty funny stuff. That is the type of stuff I just leave alone or write T-R-O-L-L-I-N-G and Mania comes a deletes it.
All we ( the usual crew and others ) ask new ppl is for you to explain your thoughts. No one, and I mean no one of importance here, will rip you to shreds if you just explain what you post. We ALWAYS disagree here, what fun would it be if we didnt, but it is usually respectful and painless. So dont be afraid to put your 2 cents in with some commentary. Just keep the trolling over at the Dog and the Junkyard.
If this guy has seen Houston fight, great. I havent and know literally nothing about him. If he could clue us in to his game, his strengths and weaknesses, etc that would be a big help for all. But your boy is getting thrown in with a lion, I hope he has a whip and a chair.

Yes, you are right about it being years ago, BUT both of them have changed in 3 1/2 years and both are better fighters. Chuck is not stronger than Rampage guaranteed! Rampage was KO’d by Wandy via kness (multiple knees) at that and not by the hands of Wandy. That goes to show you what kind of animal Rampage is. Not to take anything away from Chuck, but if the fight goes to the ground then Chuck is in BIG trouble. What happened when Coture took Chuck to the ground? Chuck was in big trouble and Rampage has the strength to get him there.

Hey everyone, this is my first message on here. I will give my picks with an explanation.
Chris Leben vs Kalib Starnes
Winner: Leben
Reason: Leben is a tough son of a gun. Starnes has all the potential in the world but he has NO heart. He has not fought any really big names succeffully and basically gave up in the fight with Grove. It should be competitive at first until the going gets tough. This is when Starnes will fall aparts.
Ivan Salaverry vs Terry Martin
Winner: Salaverry
Reason: Salaverry is very technical. He is not the most exciting fighter but he is good. He went 3 rounds with Nate Marquart and has submitted Joe Riggs. Terry Martin has not been tested and has only fought on the undercard if I am correct. Salaverry is too experienced and too much of a veteran to lose to Martin.
Houston Alexander Vs Keith Jardine
Winner: Jardine
Reason: I have never seen Alexander fight. This is his first fight on the big stage and past records show that debuts against tough fighters are not that great. Also Jardine has a great camp with plenty of resources. I expect Jardine to be just to much for the newcomer.
Josh Burkman Vs Karo Parisyan
Winner:???
Reason: This fight could steal the show!! I am really looking forward to this fight. Karo is very tough and always puts on a good fight. Josh Burkman is fan favorite that likes to slam peole like Hughes. The only concern I have is that Karo’s cardio hasn’t been the best. It has been good, don’t get me wrong. I hope he doesn’t look like he did against Diego when he gassed in the third round. All and all this is a close fight where I can not pick. But if I had to I would sheepishly say Karo…
Main Even- Chuck Liddel vs Quinton Jackson
Winner: Liddell
Reason: I know the Hall of Famer Randy Couture picked Rampage to win. I am not convinced. Rampaged last fights were against a couple of people that many never heard of and won a split decision to Matt Linland who is a weight class below Rampage (I thought Lindland won the fight), followed with his debut in the UFC with a shaky win over Eastman. On the other hand Chuck has beat Tito twice, Randy twice, Babalu, and Jeremy Horn. My pick goes with Liddell.

MORETHANUFC, quit makeing yourself look like joke, and no one is against chuck, alot of people just think that this FULL SPEED AHEAD Rampage is going to overpower him. This is my prediction, chuck wins by TKO by 2nd or 3rd round. I think Chuck is more motivated to keep his title than rampage is to take it. OK, so have at me for makeing that statement.

Who the F are you talking to dude? I didnt say a thing about Chuck you jackazz. I asked for some explaination of the guy’s bold statement to bet on a 34 or 36 year old fighter who picked up MMA like 3 years ago against a Greg Jackson trained lion. Are you new to blogging? Did you notice the NUMEROUS quotes above my post?
Anyway, came here to pop up some UFC fighter predictions I found on the web. Serra, Poopie, and Forrest “Stapho” Griffin are picking Nyquil and only RC is picking QRJ.
by MoreThanUFC on May 23, 2007 6:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Well, since no one who is picking Houston can tell us anything about the guy, I had to do my own raw research.
Sherdog has almost nothing on FF so I REALLY had to research this one with nowhere to start.
He is aggressive, a fairly good wrestler, better on his feet, and could win this one, if Keith Jardine slits his own throat trimming his goatee. I have no idea why they are letting this guy fight in a cage in the UFC. None. The talent level he has faced compared to what Jardine has faced are night and day. HA has been fighting guys who two weeks ago were fighting behind their high school.
To his credit, he has fought in an MMA tourney before, but I have not been able to find out why he has so many gaps in his career. He is older for a “new” guy in MMA, and looks like he has some skills and may one day be good ( if he were a little younger ).
He hits hard, so he has a puncher’s chance, but I’m pretty sure this one is gonna be over quick. I see flashes of Crocop/Sanchez.

yeah i actually just saw a youtube video of huston alexander…small shitty show, bad camera….bye the way he looks horrible, and looks like he should be fighting welterweight…anyways the guy took him down, got him in the full mount, but they went under the ropes, so the ref tried to restart them in the middle in the full mount position, and huston would not go back down, the ref repeatedly told him that was the rule, and he didnt do it, too scared, fight over…no heart…..Jardine 1st round, something extremely viscious…the dude has no place in the UFC, this particular fight is a joke for someone who is a contender

You sound like you think this is going to be like the first fight. Don’t tell me you didn’t notice than Randy (king of takedowns) can not take Chuck down and pound him out like he did in the first fight. Haven’t you noticed that nobody can take Chuck down anymore ( he fixed that big weakness that attributed to all his losses). He hasn’t lost since he hasn’t went to the ground. Rampage is awesome and I’m not a big CL fan, but I give credit where it’s due . Chuck will KO Rampage simple as that.

MTUFC, you are the Shit. I completly missed this article, and I am glad to finally post in it. There is some strait up man love here :) “Just kidding.”
As for Picks, I hate picking lately due to the completely crazy underdogs recently but I have to aggree with every fight that Nathan stated, except for the Liddel Fight.
I would like to see the fight play out in some of the same ways it did the first time.
I really think that Rampage will have a little harder time this go around, but in the end will be victorious. I think that some view QRJ as very confident, but I think that he will be going into this fight with less confidence then the first. He knows that Liddell has been going around avenging his losses, and that he has been doing it with good success.
I think that they will both come out strong, with QRJ trying to throw some over hand punches and while doing so he will be taking some good stiff Jabs from Liddell. Once Rampage gets woke up a little (if not knocked out :) )I think he will look for the take down! To QRJ surprise Liddell will show him how much easier it is to get back up in the cage. After a couple of Attempts at keeping him on the ground, I think QRJ will slam him into the center of the ring, and ground and pound Liddell for the Ref stoppage.
This would be my Ideal fight!
I cant wait to see the outcome, and in the end I will cover my ass once again by stating “The reason we love MMA is due to the Surprises.”

Ivan over Martin by Sub.
Im gonna say Karo over Josh B by Sub.
Jardine over Houston cuz i dont know who houston is.
Leben over starnes cuz he’s just a better fighter.
Them are my guesses oh and go chuck!!!

Thanks for the comment Chris V. It is kinda weird. My head says Chuck. My heart says Chuck. BUT! My gut instinct is telling me Rampage. It should be one hell of a fight. I noticed with Randy in fight 2 and three Chuck had a tendency to get popped up the middle. This is going to be interesting.

Huh? Since when was JMac near the top? Kalib dominated Jmac and Leben got choked out. I know mmamath doesnt work, but c’mon Kalib’s only loss was to Okami, who is easily a top 5 middleweight in the UFC. Lebens only chance is one of those wild punches ala Santiago.

I like chuck and i think quinton is a hell of a good fighter. Im glad i didnt buy the PPV. I had an idea that chuck was gonna lose and the only other fight on the card i cared about was the Parysian fight. I think at this point even if there were to be a third rematch it would probably end the same way. Thats not to say that chuck will never hold the title again stranger things have happened. But its not like chuck was undefeated its a loss and that sucks exspecially since it was a title fight. I wish the fight would have went longer i feel bad for other fellow Iceman fans that paid for the PPV.
wonder what the future holds for Chuck Now.

Actually Chuck did not get hit with an uppercut he got hit with a good defensive right hand square on the side of his cheek, and then was elbowed in the head when he then went limp.
As for people claiming that it did not live up to the hype, then you are crazy.
I never like the knock out, I prefer the BJJ, but for all you people who always look for the knock I am suprised you did not like this. If there was ever a fight that I wanted to see someone get knocked out and knocked out early it was this one. Definitely not fight of the year, but a great knock out.
Also I did not have great pick tonight, but the one fight that I stood by was Rampage, and he did exactly what I was hoping. He got inside when chuck tried to through that body hit, he stood up throwing a right hook putting chuck on his ass.
Love It,

I think the fans of the Iceman were dissapointed in the fight because of its briefness. No one likes to see their picked fighter knocked out wether it be the first round or the fifth. I like both KO’s and submission wins. But i like to see a fight before a knockout not just a min into the 1st round then its over. Fast first round knockouts are impressive but always leave ya wanting more. Ya gotta give it to Rampage he did what he said what he was going to do. I still like chuck and i always will. Now is the fur gonna fly between Liddell fans and Jackson fans i hope not cuz it gets pretty redundant.

Technique. Every fighter throughs that right hook as defense after the big left right. Diaz did it to Rawler. It landed, Most the time it don’t but when it does its bad. Jackson landed and it worked. Sooner or later technique will be victorious. Jackson exploited Liddells wide hands and beat him with technique. I love both You guys win or lose.

This is awesome for the light heavyweight division. There had been so much talk of Liddell and Ortiz that it was kind of getting boring to even think about. Now we can start thinking about who gets the title shot after the Hendo fight and rework the rankings, especially after the Jardine fight and 73’s Evans/Ortiz fight.
I wouldnt be surprised if they give Chuck Gouveia in his next fight. That or Jardine. Maybe set it up as a chance-to-get-back-on-track fight. Either way, I’m happy for Rampage. I dont think he will have any problems performing in the limelight.

I went back and re-watch the Chuck and Rampage fight over and over again… Chuck didn’t do much, he keeps backing away the whole fight. Maybe he had flashbacks of their first bout? So I went back and re-watch their first bout, the Pride fight. During their first meet Rampage landed a lot of hard punches, good thing the gloves have a little more cushion. I think Rampage’s barrage of punches from the first fight really got to Chuck mentally… In this fight he tries to get Rampage to drop his right hand by throwing a body shot with his left, but that leaves Chuck’s left side wide open… as Chuck backs away anticipating a counter punch from Rampage, Rampage saw the oppounity, moved forward and went after the open spot… BAM!!!… Chuck is down…

I wish I was on this board before today, i would have been 4-1 on the predictions. The jardine loss would have got me. but I was impress with Kalib on the TUF show. His work eithic on the show was poor because he was playing the game, he was trying to stay healthy, but look at the guys shape, he doesn’t look like someone who can’t motivate himself when he wants to. I was impress with his show of skills. I thought he had a future in this sport. Leben is a knock out wonder, wonder being the operative word. all in all, i’m glad leben lost, no problems against jardin, but i don’t like his style, he seems too stiff to me. I love karo, i do think his ego probably is in his way at this point. finally, anyone dissapointed with the chuck rampage fight obviously are too in love with chuck for one not seeing that rampage is a bad match up for chuck and are just mad he lost. seriously, look at all chuck’s fights, guys lose because they are scarred of him. Tito has the skills to beat chuck, if he can get some guts and toughen his chin a bit, he can make chuck look silly. chuck does well against guys who try to scheme against him too much. you gotta out work him, and you gotta be able to eat a good one to close his space. I don’t like chuck’s style, because he backs up too much, and think he could have better power in his punches if he stepped forward more instead of standing with both his knees bent all the time and his butt back. but who knows… I’m an amateur…. PS. Joe Lauzon went to my school, watch this guy, his a future star. He’s a student of the sport. He’s a geek wonder.

To all the REAL Liddell fans ( Tommy etc ), it just wasnt Chuck’s night. To all the the nhers who couldnt possibly imagine Liddell ever losing, welcome to MMA.
Glad I hedged on Houston. Some ppl in real life ( smokeymcpot ) can confirm I actually picked him, and woulda bet on him if I still bet on sports.
Great card. Lil Heathen lost but definitely is for real. Ivan needs to retire. Salmon is a joke, as is Leben, as is Burkman. Karo is back in the 170 race. Well worth $40.
And whoever said it was boring or Liddell had it in the books or it didnt go long enough or that it went exactly as you predicted…
1) that fight was over at the weighins IMO.
2) Liddell had it in the books alright, as a loss 3 months ago
3) It didnt go long enough? Welcome to MMA
4) NO ONE ON HERE EVER MADE A CASE AND SAID PAGE WOULD WIN IN THE FIRST. NO ONE.
Someone said that this would be bad for the UFC. Yes, I agree. I watched this at home, then went up to the bar when this site was all screwed up. I dont even talk to ppl about the UFC if I dont know them, no point to it. But you should have seen all the ppl who were shocked that the indestructible, undefeatable Chuck Liddell lost. These “fans” and many of the posters today and yesterday will never order another UFC PPV b/c the chic to it all just wore off. The only fighter they’ve ever even known just got KTFOed. These idiots dont have the attention span it requires to be a real MMA fan like most of the regulars here. They just dont get it. No one goes 40-1 in this sport like they do in that sham called boxing.
If all is well with Chuck, he’ll be back, probably either fight Wandy or move up to HW and challenge Randy or Mirko.
What did you guys think when you saw Page wearing the UFC belt, but fondling and longing after the Pride MW belt? I loved it.
Anyone thing we’ll ever see Lord Parrish again?

Now with Chuck losing, every frigging noob is gonna be all over Hendo for the next 4 months. I might just have to retire like Crocop. I dont think I can take much more of this… j/k. I hope a lot of you read my breakdown of Dan’s career over the last four years.
But this does make it interesting. One of those guys is gonna be the undisputed World Light Heavyweight Champ, whether both belts are on the line or not. And where does Shogun fit in to all this?

I’m 43 just like RC so I’m posting my picks:
Chuck Liddell Vs. Quinton Jackson – Liddell (T)KO
Terry Martin Vs. Ivan Salaverry – Salaverry Sub.
Josh Burkman Vs. Karo Parisyan – Burkman Dec.
Houston Alexander Vs. Keith Jardine – Jardine (T)KO
Kalib Starnes Vs. Chris Leben – Leben (T)KO
On the “may not be broadcast card”, I’d be mostly guessing.
I hope to be 5-0 on Sunday morning.

After a brief clinch, Silva tries to throw Irvin, but the Californian’s knee “buckles inward” ( key point right here ) while trying to defend the throw. The fight is over. Referee Herb Dean stops the fight at the 1:06 mark after Irvin’s right knee has blown completely out. Nasty sight in the Octagon.
I saw a pic of it, and Irvin’s foot was pointing down toward the mat, while he was on his back.

man talk about fanboys, where did all these page jock strap hangers come from?? i never thought chuck was unbeatable, but i did believe he had a short memory when it came to losing. randy wooped chuck’s ass, and chuck came back and beat him twice. i knew page had a chance, i just thought it would be a better fight. the LHW division is going to be a blast to watch for a while to come. i can’t wait to see who comes out on top. my money is on shogun, any thoughts???

I’m 43 just like RC so I’m posting my picks:
Chuck Liddell Vs. Quinton Jackson – Liddell (T)KO
Terry Martin Vs. Ivan Salaverry – Salaverry Sub.
Josh Burkman Vs. Karo Parisyan – Burkman Dec.
Houston Alexander Vs. Keith Jardine – Jardine (T)KO
Kalib Starnes Vs. Chris Leben – Leben (T)KO
On the “may not be broadcast card”, I’d be mostly guessing.
I hope to be 5-0 on Sunday morning.
u were 0-5 ur not very good and predictions are you?

I’m just sad to see the Light Heavyweight Title transfer from a respectfull hard working champion like Chuck Liddell who represents himself and the UFC profesionally to pretty much nothing more than a rapper who brags about only training or fighting “for da cheddar”. For those of you who don’t speak Jive, this means he only cares about a paycheck. Not very honorable huh. I can’t imagine Quinton is the face or personality that Dana White wants representing the UFC but what can he do? Quinton can fight and he does win. I just wish he would act different. I know it’s off subject but in my opinion Rickson Gracie is still the greatest fighter of all time.

Its pretty amusing seeing all the posts leading up to a fight and who picks who to win. In reality no one really knows because anything can happen in MMA. Everyone has a pick on who they want to win,. Some ride the fence because they dont really know and it can go either way. Then some fans dislike fighters because of how they act outside the ring. Im getting to a point where i dont care how a certain fighter acts or what kind of personality he has its more about what can he do in the ring/cage. Anyways far be it for me to cast judgment on anyone but the i told you so attitude when a fighter wins that you picked is somewhat childish. Cuz the only one that cares that your chosen fighter won is most likely you or in some cases you and a few friends at most. Making picks and being right is cool and saying you were right is cool too. But the i told you so hahahaha blah blah blah in your face BS is lame and boring to read . If thats your thing busting other peoples balls cuz they picked a diffrent fighter that lost then so be it but you cant win them all.

C’mon man save us the “Punchers Chance” or “MMA anything can happen” we have all heard it a million times and it is common knowledge. That dosnt take away the probabilities that someone will win becaues they have a better striking, or ground and pound, or whatever.
The people who’s picks get hated on are the ones that think they know what is gonna happen, and bash people that say different, those are the people that get reemed, and rightfully so. Other than that, a little “I told ya so” ain’t so bad.
