UFC Quick Quote: Rampage eager to show his 'new side' at UFC 71

rapage jackson signs contract with ufc

"That was a time [2003-2005, with three losses via T(KO)] when I was sparing with amateurs preparing for a professional fight. I don't think I was at my best during those times. I'm not going to lie. It was preparation.... I know I needed sparing partners, and I'm not ashamed to say when something isn't going right. I found some pretty good sparing partners, and I'm getting my (butt) whooped every day and that's the way it needs to be. They frustrate the hell out of me, but it makes me better. I'm more disciplined in the way I eat and train. I used to have to cut 15 pounds the day before the fight, but I don't have to do that anymore. That makes me stronger, and I've been working on some things, but I haven't been able to show it in my last couple of fights. I haven't been able to show my new side."

-- Quinton "Rampage" Jackson tells the Houston Chronicle that he has stepped up his training and preparation for his upcoming bout with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell at UFC 71 on May 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

IF there is no early stoppage than rampage will win.

I really don’t think Rampage is ready for this fight. That’s why it was set up, to make the Iceman happy. Him and Dana are too close of friends. After Rampage’s first fight against Eastman, I don’t think anybody out there felt that he deserved a shot at the title. That was a sloppy and piss-poor performance. I see the icemand KO’ing him in the second round.

Rampage is a animal..and the way it’s looking his a smarter, better trained, and looks prepared for war…That is the word WAR..I feel Rampage will win against, again. Most people by just looking at the first fight in the UFC really won’t grasp the reason why he is getting the title shot. Rampage is MMA vet..he has proved his time and time again..his fights are crazy. To beat him, you have to beat him down literally. He is no the one punch knock out victim. When he loses he loses bad, and when he wins he wins BAD..That is BAD MOFO..This should be a great main event. Rampage has the chance of his life, and Chuck has a chance make up for his first loss to Rampage..that is a great story line.

He may be training harder and smarter, or he may be on the couch eating potato chips. I don’t know.

I do know that prefight comments are usually motivated by entertainment and/or strategic purposes (ie intimidate/mislead), and not by the need to speak honestly.

Ranpage will be ready to give a good fight. I don’t know why people underestimate this guys training and conditioning. This guys in phenomenal shape, and although he lost both fights to Silva they were both wars.

Who has he beat since fighting Rampage? If you really sit and think about it… NOONE!!!! And if you think the piss poor Tito or the old non-striker Couture is somebody then thats a joke…

by Fo Shizzle on May 21, 2007 5:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

rampage took a beating from a better striker than chuck… wanderla silva. Silva would completely destroy Chuck and Rampage took his shots and didn’t go down without one hell of a fight. Chuck’s hands aren’t even in the same category as wanderla’s. So Chuck will not knock out Rampage… GUARANTEED

by Fo Shizzle on May 21, 2007 5:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

chuck has fought noone- babaloo, Jeremy Horn (joke), Tito Ortiz (joke..sissy),Randy Couture (joke for being in Light Heavyweight at his age) EXACTLY!

by Fo Shizzle on May 21, 2007 5:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Seriously… I would rather get hit by chuck than get hit by an angry Wanderla trying to tee off on my head.

by Fo Shizzle on May 21, 2007 5:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Rampage also gave wanderla a beating…They fought 3 times that night also. A fresh Rampage will take everything that Chuck can dish out and some…

by Fo Shizzle on May 21, 2007 5:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

good point..fo shizzle..
I did not see the RUA fight but I did watch the fight against wandy which was an all out war that i have never seen chuck in…ever…So to me the question is what is chuck prepared to do if his knockout attempts fail and he is forced to exchange round after round..

by Mr. mayn on May 21, 2007 5:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Noone on the list of the last 7 fighters that Chuck has fought had any type of hands… All you people who think Chuck is the best and only one… I just can’t wait to hear you whining come next monday after Rampage slams him into the mat. Going home… later

If you realy sit and think about it, you wouldn’t call Randy,Tito Horn and Sobral noone. Wake up to reality buddy, Couture is HW champ ,that’s definatly somebody.

You should go get both of them to hit you in the head and let us know who hits harder.

Gord wake up, dude and pay attention…Randy, tito and horn are all fucking jokes in comparison to the opponents that Jackson has had to face…Randy(old ass), tito(pussy ass), Horn and Chucks overrated ass would get murdered if they had to face Wandy which is just one of the superior fighters that jackson has had to face..Becoming a HW champ in a division where a no-talent lucky mofo like Tim Sylvia is champ does not make you somebody…Plus if you take your head out of your ass for just one second you will realize that NONE OF THE COMPETITION THAT CHUCK HAS HAD TO FACE HAS EVER PUT CHUCK IN SERIOUS EXCHANGE OF PUNCHES…WHILE IN THE MEANTIME RAMPAGE HAS CONTINUED TO BE TESTED AND CONTINOUSLY FOUGHT WARS IN THE RING…

If Chuck hadn’t of lost to Jackson there probably wouldn,t be a title shot for Rampage right away. And for his first fight in the octagon I think he performed well enough.

Jackson speaks about his new training that he hasnt shown. Know what it is? You’ll see it in this bout coming up. I’ll let ya’ll sit and stir in anticipation. It is the way he is going to win. I here a howl coming up….

Would he really say any different for a pre fight hype?
This dosnt mean anything, only the fight itself will say anything. To close to call. Can’t wait, again, this week is gonna go by soooooo slow.

Ok, ok. He’s been training Muay Thai and his kicks. Liddell has been hand fed BJJ and grapplers for years now. Lets see what ol’Nyquil can do against the clinch and muay thai leg kicks. I see CC/Yoshida or Silva/Franklin… If he takes the GG gameplan, eat one on the way in to get the clinch or double leg takedown, Rampage is gonna GnP his way to victory.

I know I have said it 100 times. But I don’t think he can do any of that until Chuck gasses. Even in there first fight it took a couple take downs and wearin down for Quinton to be able to hold Chuck down longer than 10 seconds. And leg kicks? If anything I think it will be the other way around. In the same way you can’t do anything to Chuck on the ground, it applies to all grappling. Ever see anybody do any damage to Chuck in a clinch? Randleman couldnt do anything. Chuck is an awsome grappler himself, and strong in the clinch. I still think that it’ll be difficult for Rampage to do anything grappeling related to Chuck.
But the fight is so far away, shouldnt even be talking about it yet. ; )

I ain’t gonna even argue as you are clearly completely biased and will not see it any other way. But prepare to be suprised, as Quinton will not be able to do anything to a fresh Chuck.

Dude, I got the Bomb-EST points. The second part of your comment just goes downhill.
Randy Tito and Horn, and Babalu you all called not legit opponents.
Randy I can’t even begin to explain lest I write ten pages. Tito is good, just not the best, can kinda understand your point there. Jeremy Horn has been fighting and holding his own against the best since the day he started fighting. He is very legit opponent. Babalu I might add, has a win over your God of a man Shogun, via Guillatine. Chuck demolished him twice.
Bottom line, im pretty sure 90% of all real MMA fans would agree the “Pussies” you named, are not pussies at all.

Fo Shizzle.
And another thing. I’m not sayin by any means Chuck has this in the bag, or its gonna be easy, I just think your insane for thinking Rampage does. Come Sat, if your wrong, are you gonna
A) Pretend this never happened
B) Disappear forever
C) Man up and admit you were wrong
D) Make some lame excuses

This is due by Thursday, no late work accepted.
