The plot thickens…
I think the issue is, Albrecht was really passionate about making this happen, now that he is gone, anyone that had any issue or animosity with him, is gonna do the best they can to make sure this doesnt go through.

Thinking the same thing. I dont wanna pay for HBO just to watch 4-6 events per year.

ok, 5 events = $200….
HBO is usually $15 a month…
Thats what? $180?
I have HBO, and love it… only add on I have considering I dont watch much TV. Worth it for Entourage and the occasional movie… and of course real sex.
I think one of the areas that hasnt been agreed on yet is that Dana still wants to do PPV, and TUF… but you would see monthly, maybe even weekly WEC and UFC fights. There is a lot of grey in what info has gone around about this topic.

If they cover UFC like they cover boxing, this will be a whole other ball game. I hope the HBO thing goes through. This will be an ace in the hole for UFC’s credibility. HBO runs a classy ship.

Dana White’s fleeting comments drive me crazy.
Here is MMA weekly’s prior article from 4/17 (first link under the ‘Related Articles’ heading):
—>White said that the UFC will be putting on live events for HBO and that the first UFC event on HBO will air this summer. When asked by a reporter if the HBO deal is “signed, sealed, and delivered,” White said, “Yes.” When asked if the deal should be reported as official, White said, “Yeah. We will be on HBO this summer.” White also spoke of struggling to sign the HBO deal in the past tense, as he said, “We would have never signed a deal if we weren’t comfortable with it.”

My last comments were cut off. To continue:
Now Dana says, “It’s unfortunate… [but] we haven’t come to a deal with HBO anyway. We’re still hitting that thing back and forth.”
I thought the deal was signed, sealed, and delivered?

Dont jump all over my shit for saying this.
A lot of ppl including Zach Arnold of FightOpinion, the editor of MMACalifornia.com ( cant remember the name ), Steve Severt (?) and others have been saying for the past year that while Dana was great for the UFC on the way up, be may not have the tools or education to run a multihundred million dollar company. His constant PR mistakes are a good example of this. Then, sending Liddell out to smear Tito over the boxing match is just immature and petty.
I personally think he does a great job, but I also think it’s time for more ppl behind the scenes to pull Dana back a bit, and let someone else be the press secretary. He does say a lot of stupid shit.

Pfft, dude… you are dead balls on. Dana does need to make sure his ass is clean alot more when he is trying to show it off.

Personally, I like Dana White. Sure he has made mistakes but thats going to happen. I like seeing him on TUF as well as the pay-per-view events. Hes funny, bold, and honest.. Tells it how it is. I hope he doesnt go anywhere.

Why would they want to rule out something that will only help ratings. MMA is only going to become more popular and the longer they wait (HBO) the less clout they will have over the UFC to air it the way they want to. It’s in their best interest to buy in while the buying isnt quite so expensive.

If ‘they’ keep waiting, MTV networks (spike) or ABC (espn) is going to pick it up for very long term and very high $$ ammount.

Nobody wanted it on HBO anyways. I want the legitimization of the sport which this would do, but I like the way things are run on the programs they are run on right now. And yeah MTUFC, about the Dana comment, I think you were right, good for improving a dieing business, not good for keeping the succesful one running smoothly.

Why go to a channel that the public need to pay additional charge you’ll just lose viewers like that.

You said it perfectly, you like the public personality Dana White. I like it too. But from the president of the company?
Could you imagine sitting across a table with this guy negotiating a 60 million dollar deal? With PUBLIC comments like, “Yeah, like Sakikabara, that fu.cking genius. He takes his number one Japanese star and puts him in the ring with every animal in the company. Fu.cking brilliant. Way to run a business.” Yeah, Dana, like put on the weakest card in 4 years, televise it at 3pm on a Spring Saturday, and charge ppl $40 bucks for it. Fu.cking genius.
I was gonna put the video of Dana White asinine comments up recorded after GSP beat Hughes, but I see Sherdog got wise and took it of their website.
No matter how big we think MMA is, it is still just a pen stroke away from being banned again. Sure, its growing, but it’s still only legal in 22 states, two states have voted to keep it illegal and none have decided to regulate in quite some time ( IL looks like it may ). Big sponsors have still not embraced the sport yet, as seen my Miller lite pulling out again after 3-5 shows. And having a president whose public word is about as trustworthy as a politicians aint helping the cause.
I hope everyone who has posted on this thread at least went and read the article to know what I’m talking about.

UFC does not need HBO..take or leave it..let HBO stay with their stone age boxing shows..MMA/UFC is the now and the future..if HBO can’t see that, to bad. MMA/UFC will prosper regardless if HBO likes or not.

I look at it this way: it’s not as if ALL UFC programming is going to HBO. I’ll use an NFL analogy:
You would have the Spike programming, TUF and Fight Night (FOX/CBS NFL coverage)
The HBO events (Sunday Night Football)
The regular monthly PPVs (Monday Night Football)
Every major sport is shown on at least two different networks, with different announcers and different presentations in terms of graphics and music.
It is the product itself (the fights) that creates consistency, regardless of the play-by-play man.

Yeah I understand that, im not sure if your analogy fits… anyway yeah im just sayin sounds like the HBO events would be a hassel for most people to see. But it would open up a new door of exposure, more legitamization. It’s all good. Whatever happens both has its pros and cons and its not a huge deal to me.
