See, GSP ain’t got nothing on Tank. Unfortunately, UFCMania cut off the video before it shows Tank winning the Boston Marathon (after which he celebrates with his patented standing double-backflip), wrestling a hippo into submission and swimming the English Channel. Tank Abbott – fittest man in history.

The legend says 600 pounds. There are some little biscuits at the ends there I see. But I counted 585 too on the larger wheels (12 of them) at least.

This reminds me of that King of Queens episode when Heff starts using “The Danny System” and the 45lb plates are made out of foam.

Tank Abbott vs Chuck Norris. Who would win that one??
by jd on May 16, 2007 11:08 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
No matter what you got to give it to TANK, he is a pretty strong guy and back in the early UFC days his did his thing w/ da best of the best. In that same breath i will admit that he is a perfect example of the old breed of UFC fighters and he shouldn’t even be allowed in the ring w/ da new breed of fighters for his health sake!

Cuck Norris has a superior beard. He wins hands down. And remember, there is no chin under Chuck Norris’ beard, only another fist.

Crap, I misspelled Chuck. Now he’s going to roundhouse kick me in the head all the way from California.

Bad math, its 12 wheels at 45lbs each plus the bar which is about 25lbs. So do the math its 565lbs at most. Tank’s benching technique is pretty poor, but still I don’t see a lot of dudes in my gym or MMA that can even bench 400lbs once. I heard Rob Vad Dam benched a lot, and Steve Blackman used to be the champ.

12 wheels @ 45 pounds each is 540 pounds. A standard bar is also 45 pounds, so that makes 585. Then add the smaller weights on the ends, which could be 5 pounds or 10 pounds, I can’t really tell, and you’re looking at either 595 or 605. Very impressive either way, but still no match for Chuck Norris’ beard.
by PW on May 16, 2007 12:59 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Bars are atleast 45lbs. and for that much weight im sure its more!
by jizzo on May 16, 2007 1:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The bar is 45 plus those end caps to keep the weight on weighs something. Danablk your the one with badmath. It’s really 13 × 45 plus those caps. See if you can recount that 585 plus whatever. Tank should take 3 plates off each side and actually work out. Thats why he went in the octagon threw his arms once or twice, if he hit you you were out, if not he was out of gas.

Olympic bars typically weight 45 lbs, I know I’ve actually weight some on a scale, they have either weighted 40 or 45 lbs. I counted 12 plates at 45 lbs each which is 540 lbs, plus the 45 lb bar is 585 lbs, looks to me there is a 5 and an 2.5 on each side which would make 600 lbs. It looks like 600 lbs to me but its not an official lift because like someone mentioned earlier tank could have tampered with the weights, the 45 might be only 25, like one might do in a magic show, things aren’t always as they seem.

As a former football player and bench press competitor, let me tell you his form is terrible. His grip is great, his leg position is alright, but he uses his chest to create such a bounce. He starts off great, he looked real sturdy holding the weight above, and then he drops it down quickly, and bounces it up. In half of the competitions I participated in we couldn’t even touch our chest with the bar so that we would have no possible chance of bouncing it. Could he bench that much if he paused an inch above his chest and then raised the bar back up? Maybe… but I guess we’ll never know.

It looked like that bar was about to go through his chest. I hope everyone in here can fight cause none of us can count

Current 49er (former Cowboy) Larry Allen can bench 700, granted he is much larger than Van Dam or Blackman

Is there anyway this guy never gets on your board again??? Mania, with mcanena it’s one stupid posting after another.
Tank is the man. The guy would fight a bear if he was allowed. I used to love his fights back in the mid 1990s. So he’s no longer even close to competitive, he’s still one tough sucker who could knock out the best of us.

yeah even though Tank sucks, I definitely wouldn’t try to out box this guy. I actually think I would rather take a punch from Kimbo.

Guys, let me school you, its 12 × 45lb plates, a 50lb squat bar, and 2 × 5lb plates = 600lbs

man… I was at golds gym at venice and saw tank back in 03’ looking wayyyy outta shape but benching like 300 or so in sets of 5……. I had a pic on my cell for ever untill i got a new phone……

So the bar bounces, and he has terrible form, and I bet half of you have never been in an actual MMA fight.
1) I wanna see the strongest guy on here bounce 600 pounds on there chest, even if you dont get it back up.
2) You cant have perfect form if your just trying to see how much you can do, which I bet he is doing.
3) Yeah he may be old, fat, and out of shape. However, that still doesnt mean he wont knock someone out with one punch, let alone kill them.
4) He’s not even really MMA look back at UFC 1-6. Hes a bar room fighter, he relies on instinct and pure brute strength to destroy someone.

I’m not a big Tank fan ,but it’s 600lbs. There is 12 ,45 lb plates =540 ,a 45 lb bar =595, and look at the black weights on the end of the bar, it is 600 lbs. Tank is one stong MF. He didn’t win as many fights as he did with skill.

Tank is a circus act , but look at the bar bend, that is a legit 600lbs. A fiend of mine benches 425lbs at 200lbs and when I was 175 I benched 320lbs so I don’t see why a guy the size of Tank couldn’t bench 600lbs. And those numbers are without the juice. A big guy like Tank could easily bench 400lbs , a few shots of juice = 600lbs easy.

A few to many beer after work. It should be 585 rather than 595 lbs.

Well, the world record is 715 raw, the 1015 record was set w/ a shirt. There is no one in the world that benches anywhere close to 800lbs, w/o a shirt. My double denim bench shirt gives me close to 300lbs extra off my raw bench, I am a powerlifter. And btw a 25lb. bar w/ 500 on it would snap like a toothpick, don’t know why you thought that.

I think that was a full keg of beer on each side, and thats how much he drinks in a day. That makes since now.Hunckle from H.B. still knocked him th f#@K! out. and he had to lift that much to get his bully fat ass off the ground.

I like the comment about the alum. weights, why is the bar bending like that then? It’s real.
Yes his form would not pass in competion, but it’s still a feat few can duplicate.
How many people on hear can even unrack 600lbs, my guess is zero.
by chris on Aug 8, 2007 9:21 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
It’s true that he refuses to put enough focus on cardio to be competitive with the top guys now, but as far strength goes, this guy is “SICK”(no bench shirt & steroid free). I have personally saw him do 605 for 2 reps, also saw him do 6 upright rows with 335. Insane !!!!! Another thing to keep in mind is that this guy is 42 years old. Get off of him, I guarantee you dont want him on you.

“I used to powerlift myself, and that is some strength there. His forms not that great but he toyed with that. Everyone that is bad mouthing Tank, you just don’t have a clue.” Me too and I couldn’t agree more. You don’t even know that an olypic bar weighs 45 pounds not 25. It is still a heck of a bench, especially for a guy his age.
