Video: Hallman submits Hughes twice

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes has just five losses in his 46-fight professional mixed martial arts career.

Talk about a successful track record.

The odd thing about those five losses is that two of them came to Dennis Hallman (37-12-2) -- a fighter who is now touring the IFL circuit.

Even more bizarre, Hallman needed just 37 seconds COMBINED to finish Hughes in both bouts.

He's either extremely fortunate or simply has Hughes' number. Either way, it was interesting to see both matches -- up until this morning I had only seen the rematch.

It all makes sense now…Think about it, what does this guy and GSP have in commone other than beating Matt Hughes. Backflips!

If you can pull off a backflip, you can beat Matt Hughes. Someone tell Koscheck to work on his backflips!

But seriously, why isnt Hallman still in the UFC?

Discount the first loss. It was Hughes fourth fight in MMA, while Hallman had 8 fights to his credit. The second bout was nothing more than what it appeared. MH got caught. His BJJ defense is much much better now. Great shots from the past, but really says nothing about the man today.

just shows that ANYTHING can and will happen in mma…

I don’t understand. Hallman thanked Jesus for letting him win that second fight, but Hughes also loves Jesus. Did Matt not love Jesus enough? Or did he not start loving Jesus until after this loss when he discovered that if he loved Jesus he would win? Does Jesus love Dennis more than he loves Matt? I need answers.

He’s not in the UFC because(i think) he’s lost every other fight.

That was long ago. Hughes is not the same fighter anymore.

trigg dominated hallman in the ufc, then got domianted by hughes…not to mention, Fickett as a new comer in king of the cage dominated hallman

Thank you Thank you Thank you. I needed that today, and now im in a much better mood. I knew about Hallman winning twice over hughes, and i’ve even looked for them but was unable to find them free… I wonder if Royce gracie watched those fights and was like “I can do that easy”

PW,

Hughes was not a Christian at the time.

Great point to ignore the fighter A beat fighter B and B beat C then A will beat C mentality.

I wish someone would do that to hughes soon so he will realize he isn’t that much better then alot of other guys in his weight class. I give him credit but hes not indestructible.

Get Aoki and he’ll submit him and make him cry. I only wish he’d leave his gay pants home at times.

Nice when Hughes tries to step on Hallman’s face when he knows he is in trouble.

Bouncing back after humiliating losses makes a fighter all that much better, it would be interesting to see matt and hallman fight today. Like someone mentioned earlier hes definitely not the same fighter and has great submission skills, to completely dominate gracie the way he did shows how far hes come. Matt doesn’t seem to have the explosive take downs like he once had but seems more well rounded today.

Mahde-
Watch the Jorge Rivera fight and you’ll see why he’s not in the UFC anymore.

Wow… that’s amazing. Obviously he wasn’t yet the Matt Hughes we know now.

It’s rocks, paper, scissors. A beats B, B beats C… no guarantee A can beat C though.

This guy may have lost every fight after that but he sure has hell has or had Matt Hughes number.

I too, love to watch him lose … (Ie: BJ Penn UFC 46: Super Natural 01/31/2004)… always have, always will.

As everyone looks at the losses, I like to look at the aggression they showed in his pe fight highlight. If Matt was to come back with some of the sam Ground and Pound agression that he had before he would be champion agian. I think that he has came to a time where his record has gotten to him and he believes he can win off of his talent, when he really needs to bring back aggression.

I am not of fan of Hughes, but I enjoy watching his fights when he is aggresive.

As for a side note, I recently watched another video of Matt Serra and I recant my prevouse statement that the title is not getting to his head. He was very cocky, and even said that at least he would sell tickets off of it.

Agree with part one. Dont agree with part two. Yes, his tights are gay, but that makes him who he is. I only wish he would just wear black tights and not those pastel tye-died looking things. I’m sure thats what you were thinking YTed. They are to his advantage, but I doubt the UFC would let him wear them.

Aoki is a 170er, but still, most UFC 185ers aint hanging with him. Aoki v Rich would be fuucking awesome.

As someone mentioned earlier about gsp not having a killer instinct, I totally agree, the man would be pretty damn close to unstoppable if he had an attitude like hughes or diego. He’s too nice for a professional fighter, and you can really see the difference when he dislikes some guy, total destruction.

It’s the Frenchman coming out of GSP.
