UFC Quick Quote: St.Pierre-Koscheck bout still UNofficial

ufc 74 georges st pierre vs josh koscheck

"Georges has never chosen an opponent since the beginning of his career, and he's not going to start now. We know we have to have one fight before the title fight, and he's [St. Pierre] going to fight whoever they
put in front of us to get back into title contention."

-- Stephane Patry -- the manager for former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre -- recently told FightNetwork.com that a showdown with Josh Koscheck is still "just an option" and could end up fighting another opponent at UFC 74.

i really really really hope this doesn’t fall through, i want to see gsp destroy koscheck almost more than any other fight i’d rather see, please ufc let this shit go down, gsp needs a big win and koscheck needs a big ass whoopin, works out for everyone…

GSP vs. Kos would most likely be as heavy a matchup as any in that division. I can see a bit of a rivalry starting with them. Kos is pretty much past Matt Hughes’s level. Sorry to all of you Hughes fans, but he just is.

by Mahde on Apr 30, 2007 10:34 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Geroges now a loss to Kos which i highly possible could put him out of the title contention picture for a while now

by Gus on Apr 30, 2007 10:52 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If you factor in the usual GSP training injury delay, a GSP title fight won’t happen until summer of 2008.

Especially since the Hughes – Serra fight won’t happen until late 2007.

Dana needs to speed things up alittle.

would rather see GSP kick the shit out of d.sanchez

I think this would be a awsome match up. I just don’t know if they will put to top contenders against each other. I think the UCF will give each of them crappy oppenents.

I bet Sanchez is a good possiblity.

I think that the UFC needs to feed Jon Fitch to the Dogs. Put him in there with GSP. He’s complaining about not getting any exposure. He’d get plenty after GSP wipes the floor with him.

by phillyblunt on Apr 30, 2007 11:50 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

GSP is ranked right at the top of the division, and even though most people would agree that Sanchez is better than Kos, Kos still has the head-to-head win and is going to be ahead of Sanchez in the line for a title shot. GSP will probably get Kos unless the UFC decides to feed some unknown tune-up to GSP.

by PW on Apr 30, 2007 12:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It may be a good business decision in the long run for the UFC to put Kos and GSP together right now, but it would be a very good fight. Who else (besides Sanchez- maybe) deserves to be in there with GSP? Too bad they can’t stick Hughes in there with either one of them.

that would be a bull sh*t fight dirty sanchez should fight gsp and kos should fight matt hughes and the winners of that should fight each other. and whatever the outcome the winner should take on serra. end of story!

by phiansouri on Apr 30, 2007 1:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Gsp vs koscheck would be a crazy fight because koscheck is also very fast and athletic and a superior wrestler. I think gsp would have an easier time with diego than koscheck but is still a much better figher in all ways other than wrestling, and I feel gsp’s strength would neutralize koschecks wrestling. This fight will probably happen as its the only thing that makes sense, to see who is the number on contender.

I do see this fight’s happening. The UFC always put tough opponents on GSP, so another one won’t shock me. Kos is a great wrestler but for some reason he was afraid of taking Sanchez down, and decided to counter fight. but whatever….I’m all for this fight and hope GSP teaches this boy a lesson.
Also, I do see why the UFC have Matt Hughes fights Serra. I mean, what better way to set up the GSP vs. M Hughes when M Hughes holds the belt, again??
I hope GSP makes him looks foolish like he did the second time around they fought.
I’m sure Hughes learned his lesson, but will loose regardless.

One loss in what? 3 years..? And the guy is done.

GSP would rip APART Koschek. I think you are gonna see a meaner, more hungry GSP now. Much like the GSP that beat Matt Hughes…

I don’t think the guy is done. I just think that I am more impressed with Kos’s overall game. Plus, Matt Hughes is dominant when he takes guys down, but Kos is arguably the best wrestler in the division. So, no, I dont think Matt Huges is done.

A lot of people thought hughes was done after he fought penn, one fight isn’t a great predictor to a fighters future. A hughes/koscheck fight would be great, Koscheck is the better wrestler but hughes is so strong, it would be interesting to see.

A loss for GSP would put him out forever, but I don’t see it happening no matter who he fights. He will beat KOS! GSP will be back come his next fight. The Serra fight was just a fluke. 9 out 10 times GSp beats Serra. GSP is the best in the division

by Stafo on Apr 30, 2007 4:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Great match for Kos if it happens, because without a doubt the winner will face the winner of Serra/Hughes. But at the same time I dont see why GSP doesn’t get a rematch aganist Serra right away like Hughes is getting? If the UFC didn’t have to give Serra his title shot for winning TUF then Hughes would have been fighting GSP in a rematch rather then Serra getting his title shot and everyone knows that. I’ll admit I hate Hughes as a fighter and person, but still I’d respect the fact if he earned this rematch but he hasn’t…. yet.

I can’t believe they are going to let Kos move up the ranks and into contention with GSP. Watching Kos’s fights is like watching paint dry. His last fight is 15 minutes of my life I will never get back. I can’t believe I am actually going to side with Leben on this one but he’s right when he said on TUF when he lost to Kos (although whining a lil too much) " This is the kind of fighter they want in the UFC" he’s a 100% right. Dana White had no rebutal, he knows he would rather burn his eyelids shut with lit cigarettes then watch kos fight again but he is winning so Dana’s painted into a corner.

I agree completely, i think Gsp will whoop some Kos ass though. he will kill Kos even if he tries his gay-n-pray. and on another note if serra loses to hughes i still want to see a serra-Gsp 2 some how

Kos as recently as yesterday has denied this fight. In the interview, he said that he keeps hearing the rumor and that the UFC bans fighters from discussing fights until they are official. If I can find a link, I’ll post it ( cant remember which site I read it at ), but honestly, he sounded scared or MUCH more respectful than he has in the past.

Seriously, I like Kos, he is cool and is pretty could, and still improving, but I dont think he could even be very effective in the wrestling aspect. Remember Frank Trigg? Remember how GSP handled him? There is skill and technique, and strengh. However strong Kos is, I dont think in a grappling match he is as strong as GSP. GSP is a beast. Hughes on top in fight 1 could not do very much untill the submission. There is no aspect of this fight I believe, that Kos will have any advantage. Sorry Kos.
And no, I do not believe Kos could do anything to Hughes, wrestling/grappeling wise. Hughes is just to strong, and an awsome grappler himself.

Hopefully these two trains will miss. I’d like to see both of them get title shots at different times. Maybe Koscheck gets Chris Lytel(sp) and let GSP bust Jenna in the silicon bags. They need to keep bringing along Diego too. So he has a loss now- so what?! I hope Sera TKO/KO’s Hughes and Hughes stubbornly hangs around for another few years as the #6 guy, doormat of the champions. Matt Hughes gets the Mike Tyson image award for an athlete who destroys his own well-cultivated public persona. He’s an arrogant trash talker ala Tito now. He’ll probably wrestle the belt away from Sera and setup a rubber match with GSP. Then I hope GSP kicks his head out of the cage this time.

all the more reason for him to fight gsp, so he can get his ass kicked and back dana white out of that corner…

Check out this Kos comment:
“Matt Hughes doesn’t want to fight me, and that’s a guarantee. I can guarantee you that he doesn’t want to fight me. It’s like, where does he fight me at? He’s not better than me standing up, he can’t take me down, and he’s going to be put on his back. He doesn’t want to fight me. I can guarantee you that. That’s enough about Matt Hughes because I’m furious that he’s fighting for the title next. There’s something about him. He’s kind of arrogant and kind of cocky. "
Who’s he calling arrogant and cocky?

You old timers are just jealous of pretty boy Kos, and all the poontang he gets. I like what I’ve seen of the guy, and I think acting scared of GSP is the smartest thing he could do. Make him think he’s a nice guy so GSP wont “let his punches go”

Funny, but interesting perspective. I also like Kos’s comments about Hughes. Also funny. Not sure he’s on the money there, but I guess he was speaking out of frustration. Let’s hope for the GSP-Kos fight so we will have a clear next contendor for the title. Personally, I see a Serra-GSP rematch early next year.

Koshcheck is f**ked and he knows it, he knows he can’t take gsp and I don’t believe he really thinks he could take hughes. I think he’s really pissed he doesn’t get the first shot at serra, because he knows he has a good chance of beating him. I personally think both hughes and gsp are too strong for koscheck to handle. Remember how fast diego got his back? Koscheck has a lot of potential but he’s not as good as he thinks he is, gsp will kick his ass.

It’s too bad that Hughes got a match with Chris Lytle to earn the number one contender spot while GSP has to go through Kos.

I guess Dana likes Hughes – I can’t blame him, especially considering how many title defenses he has but he kind of got a relatively easy road back to title contention considering it should have been against Kos, Sanchez, or Fitch. Maybe we’ll see Fitch and Sanchez now. Fitch is deserving of being with the upper top five guys, as is Parisyan. Don’t get me wrong, Lytle is great but he’s not quite in title range and shouldn’t have been Hughes’ fight for #1 contention. I guess it should have been a rubber match but Serra got GSP from the winning the show – and that was a monkey wrench in the system.

GSP and Kos makes for a really interesting match with a lot on the line for both. They’re probably the best athletes in the division. Although Kos has a wrestling advantage, GSP’s wrestling is underated. GSP also has a bigger arsenal of strikes and submissions as well as more experience. There’s always the chance of an upset, however, especially against a natural talent like Kos.

Everyone can tell that GSP eventually wants a re-match against Serra no matter who has the belt. In all honesty, I wouldn’t mind seeing Serra submit Hughes to keep the belt.

I also wouldn’t mind seeing Sanchez v Hughes or Kos v Hughes down the road. All would be good matches. I think Hughes could spank Sanchez but due to styles, Kos may out wrestle Hughes and win on points.

“It has been confirmed by Dana White that GSP’s next fight will be against Josh Koscheck at UFC 74.”
