UFC 70: Karma is a twist for Cro Cop
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic was on the receiving end of a devastating head kick last night -- something he's been doing to dudes for years with sensational success.
Without a doubt, Gabriel Gonzaga stunned UFC 70: "Nations Collide" viewers with the way in which he finished Cro Cop. Prior to the bout, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt told everyone who would listen that he would knockout the Croatian.
Boy was he right.
Gonzaga's now earned himself a date with Randy Couture later this year with the heavyweight title on the line.
As for Cro Cop, he had this to say during the post-fight press conference, according to UFC.com:
"I'm disappointed. I will have to look at the fight and see the mistakes I made."
When he got dropped, Cro Cop had his ankle and knee bend in a very unnatural direction -- it looked like he sustained some form of injury.
When he woke up, he did walk out of the cage. And, he made no mention of an injury during the post-fight discussion from what we can gather.
However, at the airport in Zagreb, Croatia, Cro Cop did reveal to Net.hr that he injured ligaments in his right foot but that it's, "nothing to fear." (Thanks -- AGAIN -- to UFCmania reader, Loken, for the assist).
We'll keep you posted on his condition.

He said at airport at Zagreb that he did sustain injuries with his foot. But nothing serious. He also confirmed that his remaining 4 fights are his last ones. And he admitted that way he fought he deserved to lose.

Also he said that this is not first time this has happened in his career (his lack of form), it happened twice (Randleman and Fedor) and he will rise up again like he did before.

In my opinion he should work on his defense from elbows. It was them who knocked him out, not that kick, that was mere formality, shocking and excellently delivered formality if I may add :)

Loken I can’t read Croatian but I see he’s talking about ligaments or something. What does he say exactly about the injury?
by SirMixALot on Apr 22, 2007 12:22 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Here is quick translation:
“Malo su otiÅ¡li ligamenti, ali nije niÅ¡ta straÅ¡no. I to je dio moje karijere, i to treba istrpjeti…”
My ligaments are injured, but nothing to fear. That is part of my career and that also should be endured.

What a way to lose for both cro cop and gsp, pretty humiliating. To gsp’s credit though I think he would have mopped the floor with serra if he never got caught, can’t say the same for cro cop. Gonzaga was clearly dominating him, no mistake with this one but at anytime cro cop could have landed that devastating leg kick, unfortunately gonzaga beat him to it. I felt bad for cro cop, after so much hype and expectations to lose so badly, with the irony of getting ko’ed with a leg kick. I hope he kicks ass on this next 4 fights of his contract and this loss not affect him in the future.

I said the last time I left a comment that Cro cop wasn’t the great fighter that everybody thought. When Randelman beat him he knocked him out with a right hand and a hammer fist and when Emeilinenko beat him after a close first round Emielinenko dominated him for the next two rounds so the knock out last night wasn’t a big surprize to me. I still think Branden Vera deserves the next title shot for some resson they keep dissing him.

He revenged his loss against Randleman, didn’t he (also in interesting manner, by choke) and Fedor, well Fedor is in his own class.

holy mackerel…“bums”? anyone who doubted what was being said over and over about Gonzaga being a very smart fighter has to realize the error of his ways now. the fact is, Gonzaga trained and tailored his game plan to beat his opponent, Cro Cop did not.

yeah the man has been beat. but he is still a legend. his loss to fedor wasent of course as humiliating as yesterday was. he definetly won the first round. but yeah he got beat last night but hes coming back. idk if the ufc will set a rematch for GG and CC, but i bet, the outcome would be completely differnt. i still would like to see cro cop vs. vera. i forgot who vera’s kickboxing coach is, but he’s world class and cro cop has faced him in k-1

I couldn’t even post last night cause I’m sure UFCmania would of deleted the post anyway. I’m sick to my stomach about it. I’m also angry to see cro cop lose like that, because I also fear that he won’t fight again. All night I was Like “just watch it, another upset, that’s all we’ve seen lately.” FUCK!! ok some thoughts…
Randy will be a better fight for Gonzaga because he is so smart (kinda like I thought Cro cop was) and I still think Randy will win because he’s an expert at putting his plan into action.
Now that cro cop lost, and Arlovski won without much Flare, maybe we will see cro cop fight Arlovski. wishful thinking.
God I hated to see that kick. It was like watching a friend get beat up and theres nothing you could do. I seriously thought Mirko might have been dead in the ring when everyone was crouching around him. Damn, I mean what does he do now, start from the bottom and fight Sanchez again? fuck I can’t stand it. sorry for venting guys

I butchered this sentence here :). Anyway you guys are forgetting that this bum, can as some you are calling Gonzaga is main contender for belt now, he now is at top of UFC.
Mirko lost, plain and simple. Why he lost? We cant say for sure. Not enough motivation, not enough training, and bad attitude towards bout (he tought that he will walk true UFC) are probably some of reasons, on other hand Gonzaga was ready, he was motivated and trained hard. Upsets happen in sport, underdogs do win. Gonzaga won, good for him. Mirko lost, well bad for him.

In My opion I don’t think we’ll see much more of Mr. Cro Cop in the UFC. Correct me if I’m wrong but, he only has one more fight left on his UFC contract and its not going to be a title shot. I see him going back to pride after his next fight where he was a dominate force! He walked in to his last fight listening to the pride theme song for god sake!
He just seems distant from everything UFC… Hell, they didn’t even show him on the UFC 70 preshow? Gonzaga, bisping, elvis etc. no cro cop?
I just get the feeling he likes the Pride setting more.

Forget his previous fights, if he had no other fights in the ufc than this one he would still get an instant title shot for destroying the #1 contender. The fact that it was cro cop just solidifies the deal.

Crocop v Poopie next makes sense.
No one is ignoring that Mirko said his next four are his last, we all know he is retiring; old news, dude.
Now the expectations are off of CC. He is again just another contender like he was in Pride. Might be the best thing for him really.
And no, Randy did not call it. Randy said Gonzaga would win via sub, thinking back to the Big Nog fight. With GG’s size, he figured he could take Mirko down, and with his Mundial-winning BJJ, that a sub would end it. He never said anything about a KO.
And stop all this BULLSHIT about CC having a weak chin. Two KO’s in his MMA career, Randlemans full force, clean hit overhand and the most devasting head kick any of you have ever seen. Fedor couldnt do it, Hunt couldnt, and Wandy couldnt. His chin is a lot better than AA’s, for sure. I’ve never seen Werdum rock anyone in Pride like he did last night.
Now, to who it fits, become more educated fans, and realize losses happen to everyone not named Fedor. Mirko is a very honest fighter, admitting he fought poorly, and will change and come back for four more. Those of you who claim to be so sure that this would happen, please screen shot your Betus.com wager sheet and post it, or stfu. I never once read here, or anywhere else someone say pre-fight that GG would KO him. Calling Mirko “Crocop” Filipovic “overrated” or “not that good” is disingenuous and shows complete ignorance of MMA. MoreThanUFC!

No way does getting knocked out by that kick make CCs chin suspect. It would have knocked out anyone it connected with. However it does show holes in his defense. Not training in a cage sounds arrogant to me. People say what they want but everytime Gonzaga has knocked someone out that I’ve seen, it looked brutal. Randy would have been able to get inside CC guard if he brought that game he brought last night. In all fairness though, Randy has never and could not have knocked Mirko out with a kick like that. Just too far outside of Randys natural talents. He would have got inside and drove CC to the ground and pounded him though. Getting caught hurt CC in Pride and now the UFC. Good news is now we can go right to the AA vs CC and let them fight it out. Cause so far I’m still unsatisfied with AA and he needs to prove himself.

There’s no way Cro Cop or Gonzaga would have a chance against Vera unlike Cro Cop Vera always has a plan when he fights. Ad that to his raw talent and he is the best fighter in the ufc, and he will be heavywieght and maybe even light heavywieght champion if Lidell isn’t careful!

On Gonzaga, he beat CC, anybody who does that, deserves a lot.
If Vera gets his contract figured out I would love to see him in the mix. He might very well be CC’s next fight. CC asked for him, and since it is fact that AA is the next in line for a title shot now, he is takin. Same with Gonzaga. So if you think about it, it makes sense.
Oh shoot I forgot though, NOG was rumored to fight Vera next. I dunno man, it all depends, especially seeing how this year has gone.
On you guys saying that the stand up hurt CC’s chances. Look at what your saying, STAND UP, HURT, CC. That’s like an oxymoron.
Apparently, CC needs to train on his ground game in the cage, as the cage greatly assists GnP. CC can’t handle BOWS!!

Just seen this on Cro Cops website
April 24rd, 2007
Mirko arrived to his hometown today, he was limping a bit. He said: I deserved that loss because of the way i was fighting. I fall down every now and then, i was twice in this situation, after Randleman and after Fedor and i got back up again, i will be back this time too, that is a part of my career. I have 4 more fights to come and i will do them all.

anyone think randy has a shot at this gonzaga animal?? or are we gonna have a new heavyweight champ…also whats the deal with top ranked fighters training easy for opponents they should beat, it dosent matter who it is its MMA train hard for every fight.
Totally agree with the training part of the comment. As for Randy losing to Gonzaga. Here is my early prediction…..Randy will beat Gonzaga. The Natural is much smarter in the cage and he will study this stunning victory for Gonzaga we were all shocked by last night. But…but…but..Randy called it “Gonzaga will win” I think it’s nuts that Randy called it, but this pick is what tells me he will beat Gonzaga. Randy is MMA right now. Pulling off the impossible over big Tim, calling out the Gonzaga victory. He will ddfend and prove to eveyone that he can figure out how to beat anyone. He will find a away. He will fight Chuck again. We will hopefully see Champ Vs. Champ soon

I’m so glad Gonzaga missed that punch after CC fell to the floor. That would of been additional damage that would of sucked. CC was obviousll out the second he got hit. The lights went out! That punch Gonzaga was following up with look like it was coming with some fury. Glad he missed it. Congrats Gabriel Gonzaga! Obviously this guy is the real deal. Looking forward to Couture/Gonzaga.

Being as I didnt notice anyone else mention it, I just though I’d give props to Herb Dean for the quick stoppage. He reacted the second Cro Cop went out and managed to pull Gonzaga off before he was able to punch the unconcious Cro Cop.
This whole quest for the belt thing seems less and less important to me. Obviously, it will remain most fighters motivation, but with all of the talent coming up, I dont see anyone holding it for very long in any division. That is unless Fedor comes over.
I’m with everyone else in hoping that Cro Cop is alright, that shit looked nasty. And I’m hoping that whoever his last fight is against, that it proves worthy of being Cro Cop’s final fight.

Hey big mouth, i was sayin GG would beat CroCop – i have my betting slip from bet365 – i can show it to you to prove it if you want – i am a god dam genious when it comes to fight outcomes – i also bet on Serra v GSP, i knew for a fact that he would win which is why i put my money where my mouth is, AND i also put money on Koscheck, who i knew would win from the weigh in dispute – again, if you want me to prove this to you, id do it gladly

Some of the comments here seem pretty ignorant. Cro Cop is an outstanding fighter who had a bad night. And no, the elbows didn’t finish him…he was clearly in control of his faculties when he got back in stand up.
He just got caught. Something which has happened to pretty much every fighter who steps in the ring for very long. And sometimes – for whatever reason – top fighters just aren’t prepared to fight. Even Fedor has caught punches or slams or moves from clearly inferior opponents that nearly finished him, yet Fedor always somehow escapes. Eventually, if he keeps fighting, even Fedor will have an off-night and a lesser fighter will take his belt. Liddell, Franklin, Couture, Hughes and all of the UFC’s great champions are a testament to that fact.
Is Anderson Silva as much better than Rich Franklin than he was on the night he took the belt from him? No. If you’d never seen the two, Franklin looked like a total hack, and yet everyone knows he isn’t. Franklin just didn’t have it that night. It happens in every other sport, and I don’t see that MMA is any different.
Cro Cop didn’t have it yesterday. Anyone who’s watched many of his fights wouldn’t doubt his immense talent. Only an extraordinary fighter could win the Pride Open like he did.
What’s most interesting to me is to watch Gonzaga and see how good he can be. He looked great on the ground and standing up yesterday.

I can’t wait to see Crocop heal up and return to the octogon, only to be knocked out again. He has NO defense on the ground. Perhaps he should stop focusing on his special police pursuit and concentrate on fighting. Maybe then he’l survive past round two.
By the way, as disappointed as I was about Crocop, how about Arlovski. The guy didnt impress me…even after fighting a chump. Too afraid of gettign his glass chin touched. Pit Bull my ass.

WOW! Werdum is not a chump. Go onto YouTube and do your homework Heywood. And Cro Cop has a pretty decent sprawl so I dont agree with that either. How about Cro Cop focuses on whatever he wants because hes still a legend either way.
For all of you “MMA snobs” out there, I am starting to agree with you. Too many idiots who don’t know anything past the last fight they saw are making overlyconfident statements.

Beacause Brandon Vera is the most overated fighter out there…the biggest name he has beat is Asuerio Silva…wow…have u heard him talk…I think he’s the only guy in the UFC who rides the short bus to all his events

I can’t believe this guy thinks so highly of Vera. Had he not gotten such a big head you would of been able to see Big Tim finish him. I wouldn’t even like to see him fight GG, AA,CC, Randy, Werdum, Big Nog, or Liddell. He would get murdered by any of those guys. Has no chance in HW. He should move down to LHW. Well well well…… Its really quite amazing how some of you think you know EVERYTHING about MMA and feel free to make this ridiculous comments judging Cro Cop’s fighting abilities.
Before you all start attacking my post, I do want to say that many of you as well make GREAT and well thought-out comments.
Cro Cop lost last night, SO WHAT? Oh no! Rather then being 22-4 he’s 22-5. The man is a BEAST, something not human. The points made were so correct, if ANYONE had been hit with that kick in the right spot as GG did to Cro Cop they would have dropped just the same. I am a HUGE CC fan and I must say the moment he walked into the ring you could tell something was off. He DEFINITELY was having an off day, and GG had the best of his career. I do give GG respect, regardless of the fact that my dinner was making its way up as I watched the devistating blow.
HOWEVER, if history comes close to repeating itself, this will do nothing but re-track Mirko. When he lost to Randleman he came back busting ass, went on a 7 fight winning spree which included beating Randleman in a rematch and won the Pride title.
CC is NOT used to the octagon OR to the whole UFC package. Once he corrects this (which this fight will surely do), he will be a DOMINATING force. Pride is MUCH more competative and had athletes on a different level fighting wise. I am not discrediting the UFC fighters, they’re great, however you will all see what I am talking about in the months to come.
CC has only got 2 KO’s on him, this will only cause more trouble for those opponents to come…..
All I can finally say is may some cosmic luck be on their side the day they step into the fight with the force that is CRO COP……
P.S. “Emelianenko, considered by many to be the best MMA fighter the world has ever seen, admitted FilipoviÃ"‡ to be his toughest opponent to date.”
and that’s no joke………

Wow! Allot of people have some comments on this. MTUFC I always enjoy the comments. I aggree completely about Cro Cop. I think that Cro Cop looked like he always did, but when it comes down to it I think he has one whole. Whenever someone pushes the pace on him, he has troubles, not always losses, but always trouble. Look at the Fedor fight. Fedor never let up and stalked him furiously. Take a look at the fight against Silva, he did when, but whenever Silva came at him, CC had some troubles. I also think that he had some trouble adjusting to the setup. Within pride you have allot longer to get into a groove, and with UFC you only have five min per round. There are times when CC comes out with aggression, but this time he did not. I believe he was worried about the BJJ and was trying to distance himself for kicks. I think he went in there thinking, if I where his legs and body out with kicks he will get tire and I will knock him out.
I Love CC and I believe he will do ok on his next fight. The only worry I have is that with every fight he gets closer to retirement and that means that the fights could be less significant to him, but I don’t know.
As for Insane, you need to prove you state. I don’t know anyone who would have said, Serra, Gonzaga, Koscheck. I am pretty good at guessing fights, and I would not have guessed all those. The only one I felt had a chance was Koscheck, and now I think Diego would tear him apart if they were to fight again. As for Serra, I will say it now like I said it then, I did not pick him to win, but I mentioned on numerous threads, before the fight that the reason I love MMA is due to the surprises. I have been watching MMA events since I was 11 years old, around 1994, and the surprises are everywhere. I may only be twenty three but I have watched allot of fights, and stating that Gonzaga was a win would be more luck than skill. When.
For all those wanting to show what they got on the MMA guessing game, check out MMAGame, with this link,

Thanxs for the link Chris. Didnt Randy say he thought the only way he could beat Goon-Zaga was by being more atheletic, I personally think hes gonna get knocked out. But I hope not, Gonzaga looks like a Brazilian Tim Sylvia to me, Think he would be a big draw as champ?. Cro cop got his HEAD KICKED OFF! I still cant believe it. I was hyping the crobocop to my no-pride knowledge friends who werent impressed by his win over Sanchez(dont ask, I dont know why not) and now they think hes nothing, sigh, the aa fight was boring! those two should never be allowed to fight again, anywhere, ever as a punishment for that boring ass shit. And the boos turned so fast when aa started talking at the end, just when you think mma fans cant get anymore fickle. Idiots! I don’t know if anybodys mentioned it but the way hes treated this defeat is far more honorable than Serra, Diego, Sylvia and many other UFC fighters, who can’t wait to whine and make excuses after they fail to perform. its kind of annoying when people say these things, they sound like they are in high school with the whole “oh this guys great!” deal over one lucky kick. cro cop is a master of the striking aspect of martial arts and he got caught by a kick he threw up probably just to chance it, and he actually got it. and over one lucky kick you hop on his cock and ride the bandwagon lol how pathetic.

Gonzaga vs Coutore will be a great fight.Thogh I don’t know if either of these guys is trully the best HW in the world. I am a Coutore fan 4-life, but it has been proven once again that anyone can win on any given night! Serra,Kos, and now Gonzaga all have “upset” the fans if you know what I mean. From now on, I’m not picking winners, I’m watching fights with the guy thats supposed to win get upset. I understand AA has also won a title shot. Should AA get another shot before Vera. Vera, like Gonzaga is undefeated in the UFC. AA isn’t. It just brings up ?s about Joe Silva’s matchmaking and to be honest….. I’m tired of him having that job!!!!!!!

Im wit yer there mate,Im a huge Crocop fan and I got that feelin too like watchin a mate gettin KOed.It was just the way it happened,I mean that headkick looked vicious and the way his leg folded up underneath him made it look all the worse,it was the worst possible outcome for me,the stuff of nightmares.I instantly thought that is the end of Crocop and for a moment I also thought he was dead.I hope he can come back strong like he did when Randelman KOed him,and I hope he gets that title belt before he retires. It would of been the icing on the cake that night to see CC win that fight but that just wasnt to be and to be honest ive been pretty depresed about it past couple of days.Next one is Chucks turn,Im just prayin he takes his training seriously so we dont have another upset in the main event.

its kind of annoying when people say these things, they sound like they are in high school with the whole “oh this guys great!” deal over one lucky kick. cro cop is a master of the striking aspect of martial arts and he got caught by a kick he threw up probably just to chance it, and he actually got it. and over one lucky kick you hop on his cock and ride the bandwagon lol how pathetic.
One lucky kick? He dominated Cro Cop, he gave Cro Cop a hammering then got stood up then booted his head in.
Cro Cop was and is one of my favourite fighters, but he was clearly beaten in all aspects, not just the other guy getting lucky. He’ll come back though and kick some ass.

Wow dude…who has vera beat again…..Asuerio Silva, and a has been Frank Mir…yeah Brandon Vera is the best fighter in the UFC who has never really fought anyone…maybe he will just fight C level fighters for the rest of his career and then he can retire undefeated like Fedor!!!!
First of all fedor is not retired second of all Vera has beaten everybody they put in front of him including Mir, Kemo,
and if you saw how he dominates in all his fights you wouldn,t say he’s over rated.

im sorry to say but though he has fought c class fighters, its not like he didnt completely dominate them. hes not like dirty sanchez who fights losers and then when put against some class fighters (kos) he gets his sanchez ass handed to him on a nice silver platter. vera does just as good vs those c class fighters as randy or mirko would. i think hes a class but im not so sure about him beating randy. randy actually studies his oppnents like in school and depicts every weakness they have.

Cro Cop got beat bad thats just the way it is he has some critical holes in his game and if he doesn’t correct them what you saw on ufc 70 will be only the beginning. He was so worried about being taken down he forgot these guys can kick too and got creamed. I want to see him fight again but if he keeps thinking that these fighters are all going to be intimidated by him he’s going to find himself on his back alot more. He needs to complete his mma skills.

Randy is great there’s no doubt but I would pick Vera to beat him because of Vera’s mui thai clinch is awesome and his hands are also great and he has a great sprawl as well. And as seen with Lidell Randy starts having trouble when he can’t take his opponent down. Eather way it would be a great fight to watch I just hope Vera gets his contract problems all sorted out so we can see him fighting again soon.

To the the blogger who said he “knew” cro cop and gsp would lose, you make me laugh, what a moronic statement. Nobody really knows who’s going to win, yes I don’t believe in fortune tellers and such I think there full of s**t. I just couldn’t bet on Gonzaga against the mighty CC, haven’t seen enough of his fights personally. Anyways, congradulations to you. Had to be a good night.

Tommy – Thanks man, much appreciated. I bet before Randy said anything, the little thing that made me put the bet on agaisnt CC is when GG said in a pre fight interview that all he knew he was going to do was “hit him very hard” he didnt say KO or Submit, just “hit hard” then you look at him and think well this guy is actually built like a brick shithouse so when he hits hes gon hit hard! – I bet o Koscheck for 2 reasons -1st – i hate Sanchez with pride, 2nd – Sanchez only wins when cool and calm, but what did he do? Pushed Koscheck at the weigh in, thats not a cool and calm guy, thats a loser. I bet on Serra because i believed it was his time. It had nothing to do with who he was fighting, i just had a feeling he was going to beat anyone.

You have got to love a sport where anything can happen. In MMA, anything can and does happen. The irony of a BBJ god like GG KOing CC with a high leg or Serra taking out GSP in stand up. That is what makes this sport so popular.
I like Randy – a true champ and HOF, but “he is so smart he can figure out how to beat anyone”? Did you forget his last 2 defeats to Liddell? He figured out how to beat that one – retire and come back in the lame HeavyWeight division. The HW division was full of one-dimensional fighters and I am glad to see the shakeup. Anyone think with the recent infusion of new blood in the UFC and the acquisition of Pride that any of the “old” chumps will still be around? Will Tim Sylvia ever be the champ again? lol…same people that called AA unbeatable or GSP the future of the UFC might think so.
Matt Hughes said of Royce Gracie that the game had changed too much. In no time, hillbillies like Sylvia and Hughes will see just how true that is. The real athletes are on the way…in a few years MMA will make today’s fights look like a 1970s NFL highlight reel.
It’s only going to get better with this added competition.
Any comments on BJ Penn vs Lil Evil?

Hello to all fans of MMA!
Guess I’m new here! I can only say that you haven’t seen real Mirko that evening! Believe it or not! I suppose he messed up his reputation but he’ll come back for sure! He oscillated before! His comment in todays’ press in Croatia was that he’d like go for a rematch against Gonzaga! GO AHEAD MIRKO!

I have watched that KO about 30000 times today and I think it was a lucky kick.I dont thimk CC took that fight seriously at all.He just didnt believe that Gonzaga could KO him like that.If you watch him just before the kick conects you can see he lets his concentraiton go for that one second and you know what happened next,he flinched and you can just see in his face he is not expecting it at all.I think this will be a big lesson for him and I dont think he would make that mistake again,if they were to fight again I am pretty sure it would be a different out come, all CC has to do is use his hands more and save that kick for when he has Gonzaga rocked with one of his straight lefts and then BAM he can kick a hole into the side of Gonzagas head, that was a terrible peformance by CC the other night and it seems very similar to the last time he was KOed when he fought Randelman.
He has four fights left and I have a feeling one of those is gonna be a rematch against Gonzaga for the title.
by mcanena on Apr 23, 2007 3:22 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised at the upset. No I am a CC fan but but here are my reasons:
1) CC wasn’t taking the fight to Gonzaga, Gonzaga was the one instigating contact the whole time and being aggressive.
2) Gonzaga Caught his kick beautiful and threw CC down. CC didn’t do much to set it up but Gonzaga really prepared well for it.
3) Gonzaga pulled out a stunning high kick CC style. say what you want but that was probably the best high kick KO in UFC, easily.
4) Gonzaga Deserved to win the fight, plain and simple.
As for CC now. I just hope he rests up and heal his injuries. I wouldn’t mind seeing him take a break until after his Parliament term is up and come back fully prepared and ready with some cage training. CC still has all the tools to win the HW title, this is a setback but nothing any great fighter doesn’t overcome.
I hope Gonzaga beats Couture, and CC eventually fights him for the title. That’ll really keep him motivated.

And if there is one thing that is true about Cro Cop its that when he has a loss…he always comes back better than before with with a big and vicious win streak…and yes I hope for a rematch with Gonzaga…the money is on Cro Cop…I mean who bet on randleman the second time he fought Cro Cop?

just watched the replay of sat night on spike. it reaffirmed everything ive been saying. that was not a lucky kick gonzaga landed, he practiced for that. those elbows and forearms are what won the fight for gonzaga. his gnp made cc tentative and took him out of his gameplan. and werdum is still the best slap fighter today. slaps are much easier to land than punches he was to afraid to committ to a full punch. and aa was coming forward the whole fight. he landed several good leg kicks and put werdum down in the 1rst with an uppercut.

And he’s looking at a career in LHW of being second tier fighter. I will keep saying it. Vera is not that good!
Vera is that good! He destroyed all the ufc put in front of him. Sylvia couldn’t finish Silva. Brandon did.Same with Mir(a lesser Mir ,but still).Randy speaks highly of Vera too,but what does he know, right.Randy used to wrestle with him. He knows how good he is. Not only would he not get murdered by the guys you mentioned, but he would beat most. We will find out soon enough. Brandons’ manager declined the UFCs’ offer without telling him. Brandon fired his manager and walked away from his half ownership of city boxing, so I don’t think it was as much his big head as it was his manager wanting a big wallet. One would have to be blind not to see his talent.

I’ve been whatching this sport fror a long time now and for me to be as high on Vera as I am he has to be something special like you said even Randy speaks very highly about him to the point that in an interview he nad before he came back he said Vera was the fighter he would like to face least.
Of course now that he’s fighting and champion he can’t say that anymore because there a good chance that he really will fight him.

I’m not saying Cro Cop won’t come back strong in his next fight he probably will but after a couple of fights he’ll get knocked out again by a somewhat weaker opponent. To be a great fighter it’s not even important to win all the time what is important is to give 110 percent everytime you fight and I just don’t see that from Cro Cop I sorry if that gets anybody pissed but it’s true !

I agree on that night CC was gonna lose no matter what, but, the reason being is that CC underestimated GG,I mean no one can say that they expected GG to win via headkick KO and the most shocked person that night was definitly CC.
That Werdum guy is CCs jujitsu coach and he has a win over Gonzaga so Im thinkin CC has been thinkin, hmm if I was to fight werdum Id knock him out easy and he has beat this Gonzaga guy so Im just gonna fuckin kill him.He underestimated this guy and CC got caught and yeah he deserved to lose that night,
but if Gonzaga was to face a Crocop that was focused and knows that his opponent is dangerous and has KOed him before the out come is gonna be very different and Id bet my left kidney on that.
Crocop can manage not to be taken down by bigger stronger guys that GG and their is practicly no one alive who he cant KO.There was a reason every one was backing CC for that fight and that is because he has the tools to beat anyone. All he has to do against GG is use his hands more and not be so eager with that kick of his, only use the kick when he has GG on the defence and even if gonzaga has a chin of iron CC could keep the fight standing and pick gonzaga apart with his pin point striking and head movement.

Also if you watch crocop at the stare down you can see how unimpresed he is with Gonzaga, gonzaga goes to touch gloves with Crocop and he doesnt untill the ref tels them to and then you see Crocop wipe his hand on his shorts with a very disrspectfull look in his eyes.

NO,buddy I’m saying the exact opposite of Randlemans lucky punch. Randleman didn’t dominate CC for 5 mins and GG did. If they fight again CC will lose (even without a head kick). He didn’t get caught with a lucky stike. He got caught in a game he couldn’t play . He won’t be able to play Veras, Randys or Chucks game either. Mark my words. Randlemans lucky punch?? and that head kick Gonzaga threw wasnt just as lucky?? yeah he had cro cop on the ground…because crop cop threw a kick without setting it up with strikes..which is unusual for cro cops style..had he not been so foward he could have just out punched Gonzaga on his feet like hes done so many times before..had the lucky kick not come the fight would have gone to the second round..and most guys who are lucky enough to get mirko down once cant do it again..maybe with the exception of Fedor who did get mirko down more than once..but thats because hes Fedor, and if history tells us anything its that when mirko loses he comes back with a fire under his ass and goes on a big and devastating win streak…when they meet again Gonzaga’s gonna be the one to see what getting dominated is..I almost hope he beats Randy just so Mirko can face him again..and U know what the UFC’s gonna do..they will give Mirko one more tough fight as a comeback…likely Silva, AA, maybe even Vera. Then give Mirko a title shot

Mirko disappointed the hell out of me….but he has also thrilled me with fantastic fights….he seemed so out of sorts in the cage….he has got to start taking this ring-to-cage change seriously…..this will require ALL of his future training to occur in a cage situation…and his lack of aggressiveness was his undoing…if he had attacked Gabe and brought the fight to him, instead of standing flatfooted and unfocused, he could of dispatched of his opponent…I don’t know, maybe he has simply had it with fighting and if this is the case, I will be so disappointed because of all the great fights I have seen him in throughout his career…there is just something about the dude that makes me feel totally in awe of him…..thanks…..later….

Hey mcanena, if it makes you feel any better , if the ref didn’t stand them up, Cro Cop wouldn’t have lost because of a lucky kick, he would have lost because of a lucky takedown and lucky ground and pound and 5 mins of lucky domination.
LMAO! I can’t believe I missed this post the 1st time. Hilarious, Gord!

hmmmm, think he got careless, nothing else, gonzaga is no match for filipovic, as he is no match for randy couture
lets see if he can take a rematch with filipovic….

what i mean is that the victory is not for gonzaga, it is for the lack of interes/ preparation/ motivation of filipovic…
the situation hapened before, and the aftermat is also known…
