this blows. since so many of the top fighters are coming out of canada the least dana white could do is acknowledge the canadian fans.
UFC is by far the best MMA organization not just because of the fighters but the commentators and the camera angles during the taping of the fights as well. Is UFC going to start looking like king of the cage, not being able to see shit from the fence, under the new HBO crew? DON’T fix something that’s not broken!!
i’ll miss you joe rogan

I dont know about this move. Alot of people dont have HBO. They are always talking about making this sport so huge. Seems like putting this on HBO is going to restrict the UFC from the broad audience of regular cable. I hope HBO doesnt fuck this up. I bet they’ll put Dennis Miller and Larry King in the commentary box.

Wow this is some crap! What I dont understand is that Dana is such a proud person if HBO is contoling the production and the commentators then what did UFC get out of the deal. Sounds like HBO got everything they wanted and the FANS get screwed! Definetly not happy with the path the UFC is going down

Man this sucks..too top it off, u shouldn’t throw a couple of guys who think they know it all,…U got to have the same team, or at least one of the same guys commentating..I mean Rogan has been there since the start…It won’t be the same..considering, us as M.M.A. fans with passion, study our fav fighters, know them on a level that a couple of HBO who’s, will just bash this wonderful sport, we have all come to love….I mean let’s be realistic..It’s just business to them…This is the start of future, that consists of not caring for the real fans..who Take part in philisophical conversations about UFC, Pride, M.M.A. etc…on a daily basis…Again to repeat what some of the other bloggers have said…Thx alot Dana White..

This is bullshit. Where the hell am I gonna watch UFC now? I’ve seen every single UFC since the first one in 1993. Now I have to download it off the net because Dana wasn’t happy enough turning his 2 million investment into 1 billion. Just keep making more money Dana and forget about the thousands of Canadian fans you’re screwing.

Golberg, I guess he is fine, Rogan? Finally, I never liked that guy, I don’t like him commentating, and I for one are glad he is gone. And to ndnman, WTF are saying? HBO will bash sport? Why? What philosophical conversations?
And BTW, did any of you actually red that article? JUST ONE OF YOU? Read this bit here, than proceed to read rest of article, and stop bitching about problems that dont exits, OMG NO MORE TEH SPIKEZ ON KANADA, TEH UFC IS FAILING, I AM IN KANADA AND KANT WACHT ON TEH HBO, WHERE IZ THE SPIKEZS TV?
White inferred that the HBO events will be higher in stature than the Spike TV events but still lower in stature than the pay-per-view events. As an example, White said that you could expect to see the winners from future seasons of The Ultimate Fighter have their first post-TUF fights on HBO after they win the TUF competition, whereas the UFC Fight Night events would be the home for all of the fighters who are on TUF and get UFC contracts even though they didn’t win the TUF competition.
As another example, White said that you can expect to see Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira fight on HBO, and he added that Nogueira “will fight one of the top guys right off the bat.” White said that fans can expect to see top-quality fights whether any given UFC event is on HBO, Spike TV, or pay-per-view.
White said that the UFC’s June 16th event in Belfast, Northern Ireland will not be the HBO debut show, as he said that the June 16th show will be “on Spike TV or pay-per-view.” The UFC web site previously said that the June 16th would be on Spike TV in the United States.

Yeah, cause I’m 36. Ray Mercer was an Olympic boxer who did ok as a pro. My guess is this is gonna be a strike-only fight. CFFC has done those before. No ground fighting allowed. Basically, a boxing match with 4 oz gloves. No confirm on that, but I’ll keep checking.

Do you guys actually think there won’t be angry Canadians venting about Dana’s decision to omit a huge Canadian fan base? Some fans like myself havn’t missed a UFC event since the first one in 1993. Where does this leave us now, awaiting the results on ufc.com? Or watching poor quality versions on the internet? Not too impressed Dana.

I agree with the Canadians, and I’m from Cali? What’s with all these UFC changes? HBO?? I don’t pay the montly charges for that, but I’ll pay the every few month PPV buy to listen to Rogan and Goldberg. I first thought it was gay how fights were in rather interesting cities such as Sacramento, then Cincy, and TX. What happened to the fight every 3 months in Vegas at the MGM or Mandalay?? Now we are going to the UK, then Ireland next? I can’t wait to hear about the results over the net, then drink beer with my bros and act the least bit excited to watch it on tape delay the next night. It sounds like Dana’s head is getting too big, and they are trying to grow the ufc and sport too fast, and might lose some of the old school fans for new HBO suits. Just my thoughts.

I have to assume that most of you who said this will suck, either didnt read the article or are from Candada. HBO is and has always been the shit. It said that it wanted more objective commentators that Joe Rogan and Goldberg. While I have no problem with Rogan, who’s MMA knowledge makes up for his voice, Goldberg definitely is more of a hype man than a commentator.
For all of you who think that this is going to suck, you will only be that much happier when you see the final product (unless your in Canada).

This whole HBO nonsense sounds a lot like the monopoly MLB tried to pull together with Direct TV. Good Work Dana…the acquistion of pride this month onbviously wasn’t enough to satisfy your appetitie….Screw the fight this weekend…I’m just looking forward to seeing Chuck shut up Rampage, and all those loud mouth kooks that play grab ass at Camp Tito. Still gonna have PPV, still gonna have some junk on Spike. Just means more guys get some TV time. Think Raw, Smackdown and the Saturday Superstars show for wrestling. Different announcers and caliber stars but same product.

Some of you people are being complete morons. UFC will still be on Spike and PPV, HBO is just getting a few shows a year. Don’t have HBO? Tough. Having to download a couple of shows out of the year is quite the small price to pay for the advancement of the sport. HBO is mainstream, it’s THE boxing channel. A mainstream entity like HBO endorsing MMA is NOTHING but good for the sport. Stop crying about Goldie and Rogan too. They’ll still be on Spike and on PPV. As much as I like them as a team, they DO resemble pro wrestling announcers more than sports commentaters. Watching UFC with objective announcers will be interesting, let’s just hope they bring in some guys who actually know something about the sport.

This is off topic but who checked out that TIto Dana bad blood thing on spike? Is it just me or did Dana seem a lot less bright on this show. Usually he comes across as a pro, killer business man, but he seemed like Homer Simpson meets Mike Katz. RETARDO! I think he does have brain damage! Tito did let himn off the hook, he would have got his ass kicked! That show was a childish attempt to make Tito look bad("which Im all for most of the time) but it was lame and transparent. Canada has lots of HBO programming that is sub licensed. Most likely for these events they will be pay per view liek the boxing events. Unless someone sub licenses them from HBO and plays them live. I suspect that TSN or Sportsnet will show these fights say a week later on a Saturday night much like they do boxing even though you could have watched in the week before on pay per view. I’m a Canadian and I’m not too worried.

If the broadcasting of UFC events is similar to the way boxing events are Canadians will loose out.
Right now Canadians get to see every live event. With 3 streams for UFC (Spike, PPV and HBO) Canadians will miss out on some live events (the HBO ones). We may get some of the HBO stuff a few days or weeks later on some screwed up ever changing TSN schedule that causes us to miss unique events.
For the guy that said we get HBO Sopranos up here….for years we got delayed viewing of the episodes.
All we can hope for is a deal that has HBO broadcasting the events….since it is so popular in Quebec, Quebec might get a separate deal just for them.
So, yes this deal sucks. Before Canadians got 100% of the broadcasts and now we will get less. Hope someone at the UFC is listening.

Large number of you want MMA to expand, right? HBO means that MMA is getting more mainstream, if this means that you will lose small percentage of your broadcasts so others can get it than why not? You will not die for not seeing every UFC show live. And besides, we are in internet age, it is not hard to find video of fight you missed

Just to clarify that I am not a self centered knob:
“So yes, this deal sucks”
Should be
“Yes, this deal sucks for Canadians in the short term; and unless Canadians eventually get 100% access it sucks in the long term too”
Dana White or whoever is a freakin genius for TUF and other Spike broadcasts that are “free”; it helped popularize MMA/UFC and we have had it good. Nothing lasts forever.
And about Pride: All I ever see on pride is the PPV stuff so I don’t watch it with the same interest as UFC; I cannot see that any HBO deal it makes would affect anything in Canada; we will still get the PPV.

Tommy, desert storm was a war, it wasnt a slaughter like vietnam…but a soldier would see some shit and most likely kill or be killed…anyboy who did that has my respect
also, anyone have HBO, the channel suuuuuuucks, i dont have it and i dont know anyone who does, so im gonna have a hard time watching these fights…also is hbo going to try to compete with the ufc production wise…meaning, changing stuff so their production looks better or worse than other ufc events…..if Frank Mir isnt fighting he should be the HBO guy with the “mma knowledge”

whose jeff rogan?? ahahah joker it’s joe rogan and he’s an intense dude when he calls fights which is cool and there is no one who has a deeper voice than goldberg haha.
Loken it still sucks for us Canadians who want to watch every live event because that’s what we’re interested in. yea we can DL things but it’s not the same by any means, also if Dana wants it to expand why take it out of Canada, we all know GSP is the future of the welterweight division and that his fan base is growing quickly here and i’m only speaking about my area of toronto who knows how big the UFC is in the rest of Toronto and Canada

UFC is not going off Spike – there is simply going to be more content available now. All the same things on Spike – but even more on HBO

The HBO broadcasting will be in addition to spike and the ppv’s, SO we wont lose any of the broadcasting just more for people with HBO
