UFC Quick Quote: Garcia still has reason to smile

"The smiling [throughout the bout] was just basically to let Roger know when he watches this fight, as hard as he was hitting me, when he sees me smiling, he's going to have that doubt. He's definitely a fight I'm going to want to have again. With a little more time, I think he knows, and I know, he has no chance against me."

-- UFC lightweight Leonard Garcia talks about his debut at UFC 69 and his opponent, Roger Huerta, with the Houston Chronicle (here and here). Based on his gritty performance, UFC President Dana White has assured the Greg Jackson-trained fighter at least one more shot on the big stage.

Good for Garcia—-I think with a little more time to train he wouldve won that fight. It didnt look like anything Huerta hit him with hurt. But he looked tired I’m not so sure about a round 4. He can do some damage though at 155 if he is in shape and stays active. He is a tough SOB.

That dude was crazy… I have never seen a guy so happy to have his face beat in. A little more work and that guy is going to be a major force in the UFC.

dont get me wrong this guys tuff as nails BUT i believe its the other way around if they fought again it would be another tuff fight but he would have no chance against huerta ya he wasnt hurt by huerta but did you see his face i dont care if your not getting knocked out but your getting pummeled and all those punches were scoring huerta is just that much better and if you look garcia threw some big shots and huerta diddnt pause for a seccond he just walked right through him in my mind there is no need for a rematch dude got beat and in my mind got beat pretty damn bad but of cource he wants to save face…. he needs to stop and work on his hands he was resorting to just throwing and greg jackson was yelling at him for it

i agree wit dazzle. it was a fun fight to watch and garcia is a tuff mofo but he got dominated. how is he gonna say that if they fight again that huerta has no chance? huerta is a stud. word to garcia… youre tough, but you were gettin ur ass beat. win a few fights before you start saying ur opponents have no chance

This was the fight of the night. Hope they enjoy their bonus. Huerta should actually thank Garcia, any other opponent would have not made it out of the first round.

i hope ufc does open up a 140 or a 145 super lw division, this guy would fit in perfect there…

This guy fought like a beast! Did anybody notice he would swing with his eyes closed, and sometimes with his head down. Hilarious! The kid has a lot of heart, and obviously needs some fine tuning. He will be great oneday

Eight in a row, fought twice in the last 4 yrs. Takes everything Huerta has to throw. Impressive, but not a TUF fighter….

Yeah, I don’t know why he thinks Huerta will have no chance against him. He’s just lucky he has a solid chin. He’ll get batter at striking, but so will Roger. And Roger is getting better at everything. Did it look like Roger could have chocked him out in the first to anyone else? It really looked like he could have finished it, but wanted to beat up Garcia instead of submit him.

Usually when a fighter smiles he’s hurt just like Hughes.

That was an excellent fight. If he was a little more accurate with his punches, it could have definately gone the other way. A bit more training in this area and he’s going to be trouble for everyone in his division.

Garcia is a great fighter with lots of heart and untapped skill. He has never been trained by the pros and once he has that i think he will go far in the UFC. That kind of grit is not developed with time or practice. That is an inherent attribute that he possesses from birth. Championship material!!! Good Job Garcia.
