UFC 70: Andrei Arlovski likes to think

Andrei Arlovski
There's a proverb from Confucius that I read way back when that still sticks with me to this day:

"Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

I think I might have found that here at UFCmania, but I've only scratched the surface.

Once I can retire from the nine-to-five corporate grind, blog in my boxer-briefs, make my own hours and get paid, I'll consider this a "job."

For now, it's just a very time consuming hobby.

So what's that got to do with anything?

Not much, really.

But I just read an interview with Andrei Arlovski on NBCSports.com about his upcoming fight at UFC 70 and the former champ reveals he reads philosophical literature to prepare for fights, including the work of Confucius.

Call it a terrible segue, but at least it's a decent clip.

i’ve watched some werdum fights recently, the ones i could find and i think arlovski matches up nicely with him, i’m counting on the pitbull to get a win here by some kind of tko or ko…

yeah most people who follow Pride and Werdum seem to think it will be an easy fight for Werdum…i predict it will be a good fight, and i think Arlovski has to much for Werdum…Win by ko or tko

That Arlovski chin freaks me out. But I think Werdum cant hurt him on the feet and Pitbull can handle himself on the ground. Arlovski TKO round 2.

Pitbull will pull off the win. As for the literature I think it’s very coll that he reaches to the classics to relax him before a fight. It’s very different approach on how to prepare yourself for getting into a caged brawl.

What is this you say?… A good matchup in the HW division?… I was starting to think it would never happen.

A lot of fighters read Sun-Tzu before a fight, nothing new. And the K`ung-fu-tze is standard reading for any MMAist, but before a fight, I hope not. But this fight is the only reason I’m watching. Mirko v. Gonzaga is a joke fight, and Bisping v Sinosic I hope is another upset like we’ve seen lately.

Bush read “three Shakespears” and surfed the “internets” as he prepared for the surge.

Hopefully, Confucious can help AA from turning his career into something that resembles Iraq.

Please please do not overlook Werdum. I’m as much of a fan of AA as anyone. I root for him in EVERY fight he has but Werdum poses a very real threat to AA. I say AA pulls out those Sambo skills of his, blows the dust off & puts em back to work for this fight. Fyi, Werdums never been KO’d or submitted. His only losses come from decisions.

I have money on the fact this fight will not reach round 2, and Andrei will come out on top

Arlovski all the way. Would love to see him fight CC. Anyway it happens, I dont want to see another guy from pride walk in and dominate, somebody stop CC, arlovski, Couture, Vera, rally the troups!!!

Thanks for more Arlovski news, keep up the good work. I think with a win he should get the next title shot (after CC). But if he has to fight once more, like he said, whoever the UFC chooses. Oh, and I’m going to try a new signature after my posts now, see how it feels, cause I want the world to know:
Hate Tim Sylvia.

After reading the interview I am confident AA is taking this seriously, he knows that the 1 thing he needs to do is keep on winning!

Machine….Vladi matusenko was never Koed untill Arlovski…i think alrovski can keep it standing for most of the fight…and if that happens, Werdum is in trouble…although you never know what could happen

As much I like CRO COP also I have respect for AA. I think he is great fighter but he needs to now with CRO COP in UFC he has one
chance less to get a belt.

by 2pac on Apr 19, 2007 4:53 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i think id have to put andrei and crocop as equals in the striking game. you cant say one is truly better untill they actually fight. you can get a rough estimate however and analyze the stats of them. both are explosive, both have nice reach. crocops kicks are more devastating but arlovski has very hard explosive punches aka andrei sylvia 1 and 2. andrei does have submissions so even if crocop got the edge in the strikes he could turn it around with a nice submission, assuming crocop didnt pound his face off beforehand. all in all i put crocop and arlovski as equals.

P.S. you should see how many ppl i owned in the sanchez koscheck thread. hahaha i figured kos would win

Hes got some good competition this time around…..if he does win there shouldnt be any reason why he shouldnt get another title shot. We cant count him out just becuz the UFC is building there heavyweight devision. Hes an awesome fighter who seems to have been kinda looked down on since hes miserable loss to Tim, which in a way is understandable but every fighter has there days….look at GSP right now

CRO COP is the man for a belt.

by 2pac on Apr 20, 2007 5:50 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

What was missing in his last few fights were the low kicks. Look low, look high and second guess Arlovski and you gona die…..
