Taking nothing away from Serra, but GSP did look very conservative and stiff like he said. He made no excuses and you have to respect him for that. I would like to see an immediate rematch, although they will probably give Hughes the next title shot.

GSP is a class act and last night just wasn’t his night. Serra has bricks for hands and GSP got snuck. unfortunately for Serra he’ll have to fight either Hughes or GSP again and that doesn’t fare well for him. lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place. Overall though last was probably the worsy UFC card in quite sometime, Dana can’t be very pleased with the outcome

GSP is a class act, makes no excuses, gives Serra all the credit he’s due. We’ll see him back, though…he’s only 25..imagine the fighter he’ll be in a few more years when the nerves don’t affect him as much.

Hughes looked really happy last night. I hope he gets his match with serra and gets his ass kicked. Serra even said he would rather fight Hughes, and not St. so maybe he will be even more ready for Hughes.

GSP will be back. He was definitely not the same as he usually is when he is in the ring. It was kind of weird I could almost sense that he was going to loose in the first few moments of the fight. Hats off to Matt he won fair and square and GSP is disappointed but also very classy in the loss. Matt stay away from all the Italian food because I think there is a redneck that is thinking you will be his next pray and he take what he “thinks” is his belt back.
Keep the belt away from Hughes!

Blame Rachelle Leah! Its the damn UFC All Access curse and we all know it! I’ll do my best to have her passport revoked so she can only screw local fighters up.
by YouTapped on Apr 8, 2007 4:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I thought I was the only one who knew about the curse!!!! Cancel the show, its unfair to the fighters!!!
by PACO on Apr 8, 2007 4:10 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Nah man, I have my eyes on that curse for quite some while now. I’ll camp outside of Cro Cop’s gym and snipe Rachelle Leah on-sight. I won’t let her screw up my man Mirko as well.
by YouTapped on Apr 8, 2007 4:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah everyone does have a punchers chance, and its refreshing not to hear excuses, he knows he will be back.
Not implying this is why he lost, but how many times does someone have to slip on those damn ads on the octagons canvas???? WTF….

My first thought after the fight was “And the Curse Continues”
by wildbill on Apr 8, 2007 5:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The “curse” didn’t get to Liddell.
Babalu? He was already beaten once by Liddell. Hughes? He tried to stand with St. Pierre.
Who else? Franklin? He didn’t lose to well after his All Access.
Explain this to me….?

i thought GSP had no excuses, he said he lost to a better fighter, now he says he felt stiff, number one GSP is young and still lets nerves get the best of him untill he gets it under control he will have alot of trouble, i still see him winning it back eventually, but Serra wasnt nervous and has more experience, Go New YawK

lol. Let’s see… Rich, Arlovski, Babalu, St.Pierre, Tito, who else?
I’ve only actually seen Tito’s & Babalu’s all accesses.

YT i hope u dont snipe Rachelle, she’s too hot to be harmed. Matt Hughes better not get the a title shot, i think he should work his way up like everybody else or Hughes should fight Diego for number 1 contender and GSP sholud fight Kos for a title shot.
by jason bang on Apr 8, 2007 6:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
After his fight, I think Kos could definitely handle Hughes and I wouldnt be surprised if Diego submitted his ass. Hughes is obviously strong and a solid fighter, but these guys are evolving so fast that it surprises me a little every event I see. GSP will get his belt back, but with the competition, especially in his weight division, has gotten so stacked that Im not sure he will hold on as long as Hughes did.

GSP will bounce back from this loss. It looked like he had jitters on his first title defence.
by Bishman on Apr 8, 2007 9:56 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
GSP still rules! Whether he takes a short or long path back to the top I know he’ll still get there. I have to admit I like the idea of sanchez vs matt hughes, and GSP vs Koz. That Kos fight was for shit. Koz got lucky that Sanchez froze like a deer in the headlights, maybe Koz used some vodoo curse om him. Sanchez should have taken it to the ground, all Koz did was throw his right hand. Koz might take GSP down but he wouldn’t finish it.Just remember all the people GSP has bulldozed, Sherk, BJ, HUghes, Karo.

Watch serra’s last 5 fights and then watch gsps last 5 fights if anyone out there thinks serra wasnt lucky.

Tito beat the curse his all accesses were aired in preparation only for the two ken fights and not for the chuck fight.

georges seems to have problems fighting people he likes and didn’t seem himself, he is very talented but still needs a lot to improve in the mental game.

Does anyone else think St Pierre threw the fight? He could clean up at thoses odds. I watched the action in super slow motion, and the “punch” that started it all was a glancing blow off the side/back of his head! Then he stumbled around like a drunk, and when he was on his back getting pummeled, threw his arms up and barely defended himself. Come on… FIX!!!!
by Andy on Apr 9, 2007 2:00 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Hughes should get his rematch with GSP to compete for a chance to fight Serra – funny how the tables turned – only the other month was Serra competing to fight either Hughes or GSP

Hey Randleman caught Cro cop, these things happen, like Patton said, “success is the way you bounce off the bottom” is it just me or is George sticking to the bottom. When Forrest lost he got up, and ran to the gym to start training again, thats what George should be doing, not mooping around!

Didn’t anyone see how happy that freaking red neck was. And he and Serra don’t even like each other. It just showed how much of a punk a** he is. But it’s Ok Mr Red neck, you’ll never get your hands on that belt again. There is a new breed in the division, and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. They call him GSP, but you aready knew that…. So go back and raise your chickens and cows. As far as I’m concerned, You won’t even get by Kos or Sanchez.
by luke on Apr 9, 2007 9:55 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Luke I hope your not referring to serra as the new breed..LOL. Man it sure LOOKED like gsp threw the fight he could make a fortune on it, like someone said a head graze and the drunk act, I could see it happening……do I think he threw the fight, I don’t know, one thing I do know is he was extremely un characteristic of himself never even defended the punches, weird and in 14 fights was never rocked and gets rocked by serra. To be honest a thrown fight is the only thing that make sense, gsp almost acted like he didn’t want to hurt serra, slips a couple of times, doesn’t try to take him down immedietly on getting rocked and doesn’t defend himself, very bizarre to me.
by nathan on Apr 9, 2007 11:01 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Sanchez is another that BEHAVED like he threw the fight very uncharacteristic of diego also, for either gsp and diego it was either a thrown fight or nerves one or the other. Gsp could totally afford to throw it because he knows he could get the belt back again and could make a lot of money, sounds like motive.

Why does it make someone a punk for being happy that the person who beat them lost? You wouldn’t feel somewhat the same in that situation?
by Trayl on Apr 9, 2007 1:17 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
No, “Trayl” I would not, not even somewhat. It’s like Oh, I can’t beat you but look at you now, blah, blah. Come on, man.
Nathan, I saw it first! No, seriously man, that overhand throw did graze over GSP’s head. I just don’t see how he could be dazed by that and allowed Serra to move in for the kill. I still don’t get it. I still like to believe there is no fixing in the UFC. But god damn it, it still stings.

Lets be real for a moment. The reason that Hughes was so happy was because he would MUCH rather fight Serra than have to fight GSP again. I know anyone has a ’puncher’s chance’ but anyone that thinks that Serra can defend this title is dreaming. But then again I could be wrong.
I also wonder if GSP was messed up because he liked Serra? I know it was probably easier for him to punch Hughes in the face than Serra.

told you guys these fools maybe throwing fights look at my last posts may be Dana white is trying to strategise to make more money, look at some past fights like where Tito fought Chuck the 1st time and dude got hit and then just covered up from there and then dropped and said i got a finger in my eye that looked set up or even when St. Pierre beat Hughes to get the belt that even looked set up, I don’t know but these idiots better keep it real or I’m gonna stop watching this dump

I wouldn’t say there’s fixing in fights, but then again i’m just a fan. In cage rage there have been a couple of fights that was fixed but cant remember when and we all remember that Yakuza scadal so maybe there is.

Both fights did not look good to say the least. There will be alot of tough questions for the UFC after this card like where was Sanchez?.
It’s hard to comprehend that a fighter that barely got by Shonie Carter in tuf4 and lost the final in most peoples opinion could stand with a guy like GSP. Anybody can be knocked out (Sanchez vs Riggs) however it is the way that it happened which will be questioned. GSP has gone through everyone he’s fought in this division, most of them in dominant fasion, Serra can not boast the same or compete with that record. No offence to Serra however he is not championship material by any stretch of the imagination. I am sure GSP will come back stronger than ever and with a vengence. Hopefully,he now will develope that killer instinct mentally which is the only thing he is missing in my opinion. If this happens I feel sorry for his next opponent and the rest of his division. A sudden flow of money in any sport does funny things to people. It is my hope that this sport stays clean as I have given up on most of the other big money sports. My opinion is strictly neutral.

Did you see the GSP/BJ-PENN fight?
Search YouTube and you will see GSP in the hospital for precautionary measures. Looks like he ate a few in that one. Looked better after the Serra loss.

I know GSP personally (not a close friend, but we used to run in the same circles). I saw some of his very first fights live in person. He would not sell himself out. No way. I also have seen him have to fight close friends of his back when he started fighting here on the south shore of Montreal. For him the ring is the ring.
He would fake a loss if it meant saving 10 kids with cancer. He would not do it for money.
by Nic on Apr 12, 2007 10:25 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Nic its good to see you stand up for GSP. I’ve never even seen him live but I’d bet money that he DIDN’T throw the fight (oh the irony lol). Also to the “set up” believers I have to ask you, have you ever taken a good puch to the head? (And NO the ones from your girlfriend don’t count). If you havn’t then you shouldn’t make QUICK comments about ppl gogin down so fast. I’ll be honest with you, I’ve seen a few fights (ortiz/liddle 2, GSP/serra, another that I can’t place the name right now) that it looked like the fighter just laid down, I was astonished!!!! but when I watched the reply, 9 times out of 10 there was a solid blow to the head/jaw that rocked the guy. Some fighters know where they get rocked like that and just go to their back as defense and recoup time. It sure looks weak but I bet if GSP had his time back he would have done it rather that slip all over the place trying to stand back up. Then Either the ref would have stood him up o

If you watch the replay, Serra lands some really hard shots before GSP goes down. Most of the damage was done upstairs. We don’t have a good angle on the ground and pound, and I am no expert, but this doesn’t feel fake to me. The Lions could beat the Patriots and Tyson could lose to Douglas. It’s sports.
