UFC Quick Quote: Serra humbles White and Rogan

matt serra talks about ufc 69

"Joe, I'm really hungry, man. I was wondering if you and Dana had some humble pie in the back?"

-- UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra quips during the post-fight interview with ringside announcer Joe Rogan about beating Georges St. Pierre at UFC 69, which seemed impossible to not only most fans, but also according to pre-fight remarks from Rogan and UFC President Dana White.

The great thing about Serra is he didnt take any of it personal. He knew everyone was picking against him, and he didnt get bitter or act like an ass. He just believed in himself got the job done and was still humble afterword. No “I told you so’s” no garbage smack talk, just a good dude. If any1 in the UFC deserved to win an upset like that its the Terror.

I think honestly he expected to get “hammed” and surely he was shocked to see that georges was hurt, and he had the presence of mind to react

UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra, is a champion the walter weights need. He makes no excuses and tells it like it is. “DEEDS NOT WORDS”. Matt Sera has the skill and Maturity to beat “CRY BABY” Hughes

How can Big Nog be in the top three? He hasnt even had a fight in the ufc yet. Iknow hes awesome, he even tapped out Crocop but he isnt established yet.

I thought that big nog couldn’t fight in the USA because he couldn’t pass his medical.

I would put Fitch higher than Kos, Fitch has never lost a fight in th UFC

I hope Serra defeats Hughes and wipes that cocky, “I’m getting the belt back” smile off of his face. And while I def agree that Kos showed he is better than Diego, niether one really impressed me in that fight.

Sometimes that’s the way fights go.

I would like to see Serra beat Hughes. Although I actually think Hughes is OK. Looks like he is underestimating Serra by his laughing. Maybe he was laughing out of shocked surprize & obviously he’s got to be a little nervous about fighting GSP after last fight. They’re all good fighters and all deserve to be at the top. These are interesting times.

I’m a GSP fan & hope to see him back on top again. Stay mentally strong. There will be great fights coming in the welterweight division.

I have to admit that I didn’t give Serra a chance so I’ll have to eat some of that humble pie as well.

I was fucking wrong.Damn,Serra beat his ASSSSSS!Somebody made alot of money in Vegas.Serra looked very good in the short fight.St.Pierre just lost;how i don’t understand but to use a football qoute,“Thats why they play the game.”Serra shocked me but he deserved every god damn bit of it.He trained hard and heard the noise about him not belonging in the same ring.Kudos Matt Serra ,you fucking did it.

You’ll see Serra/Hughes fight but Im afraid Hughes is going to ground and pound his ass. You can be cocky when you’ve won 41 out of 46 fights and beat the who’s who of mma fighters. Dont hate Hughes because he’s beat your favorite fighter. Will be bringing the belt back to the midwest. Go Hughes

i think that guillard blows and hes not a top 10 in 155 and no ones gonna beat sherk at 155 he’ll just huge you for 5 rounds

Sherk, Kos, O’Brien. Anymore evidence required for knees to the head of a grounded opponent?

Naw, Hughes is laughing because he can’t believe that he let GSP beat him and Serra beat GSP. I love Serra, I think he get overlooked at his true potential and skill. Hughes is too arrogant, he deserved to lose to GSP. GSP is good in his own right too though. All in all, Serra is a good dude, then GSP and then anyone other than Hughes.

by Jim on Apr 8, 2007 9:37 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Hughes may be arrogant…..but I still don’t know who I would pull for in a match between him and Serra. I love Hughes, GSP, and Serra. What a tough pull….

Prediction….Hughes beats the crap out of serra…badly, gsp destroys koscheck, gsp ko’s hughes again and by the fall is champ again.

I know this is off the subject but how about the “african assasin” Sokojou over there in pride? He knocked out little Nog at pride 33 in like 20 seconds and now he just knocked out Ricardo Arona at pride 34 in the first round. both of those guys are top 10 fighters. Look to see Sokojou fight Crocop in a crossover fight between the two companies, because that guy has amazing high kicks just like mirko

Anyone knows where I can watch this online?

Another thing, hows the arrangement? Hughes gets the rematch first, then gsp?

I still can’t believe it though, GSP freakin’ lost.

Woooo, go Serra! THough I have to say, you son of a bitch, do you have any idea what this means? Fighters are going to go into fights more cautious, UFC is going to get 40% more boring just because of no one is going to make a “mistake”. I have got to give it to The Terra though, wow, I bet on him too, woooo hooo, you do man Serra!! This is off topic but, did anyone see how fast Dana was when Sanchez shoved Kos? He was on the ball, hopefully we’ll see those reflexes beating Tito’s face real soon, hahaahah Serra rocks!

Congrats to serra, nobody gave you a chance. Jaw dropping awesome! Can you beat Hughes? He barely got by his last bought I thought and I am a HUGE fan! Best of luck to you both! I will pull for you both until fight night!

I dunno why everybody has heat against Hughes. The guy is arrogant, but look at the guys resume and tell me he doesn’t have the right to be. part of being a champion is to believe that you are better than every other challenger out there, and it is a mental edge that gives you confidence instead of having to deal with other mental barriers.

by Liukangstoupee on Apr 9, 2007 9:56 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hughes really does have the mental part of it down, extremely important, he’s been there, done that and doesn’t choke. I totally agree with kevin B , and think he was completely stunned as was everyone else and his laughing was more nerves as I’ve seen people do before.

Serra enjoy your 15 min of fame while it lasts you lucky bastard.

If you knew anything about boxing and fighting, you would know there is nothing lucky about a punch that is thrown with intent. Let alone numerous punches that landed afterwards before Serra even got St. Pierre in the mount. Stop hating and give Matt Serra the props he deserves. He trained his a.. off and for people to say he got lucky is just a reason to get out of eating a slice of the humble pie.

Im sure that GSP enjoyed his 15mins… losing the belt on his first defense of it.

If I knew anything about boxing and mma? LOL you really can’t be that stupid can you? Any human being can get stunned, thats a fact it is POSSIBLE for ME to knock out chuck leddel and that would make me the better fighter? YOU obviously have no f**king clue what your talking about, yes skill is involved in boxing to avoid getting hit, but the luck factor comes in when you stun a guy or not, I’ve been around and have seen guys get hit pretty f**king hard and not get fazed and then barely get hit and get rocked. Skill has NOTHING to do whether or not a punch will rock someone or not, please pull your head out of your ass and smell the fresh air, its wonderfull out here.

LOL. Thats true it really doesnt matter as much with how hard you hit someone as where the punch lands. I will say that Serra saw the opening and took full advantage so I dont think it was all luck. I dont think he could do it to GSP again in a rematch though. As soon as the fight was over I couldnt help but to smile. I just couldnt believe the bastard did it! Now will someone please pass the pie!!!

by Matt on Apr 10, 2007 2:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Of course Serra has skills and landed the punch based on skill but the effect the punch had was totally random, it might have also done absolutely nothing which is my entire point. I would bet my life on it if the fluke stun didn’t happen and it went to a decision gsp would have won a easy majority decision if he didn’t ko serra in the next 2 mins. Both gsp and hughes are slow starters and I hope gsp learns from this one and really opens up from the get go. I give Serra full marks for taking advantage of a stunned gsp unlike he did with Karo, he learned and did very well. I’m still convinced gsp would win 9 out of 10 fights, and won’t jump aboard the band wagon. I still don’t think serra is in the 10 top welter weights, I base the top 10 on over all performance not a lucky punch. Look at diego and riggs, one ko and he thought he was chuck liddel but his next fight was very telling, you don’t go from an o.k striker to chuck liddel over night.

I think Serra might get more than 15 minutes of fame… His first title defence is against Matt Hughes, and ironically enough I think he has a better chance of beating Hughes than he did against GSP. Who wins, a gound n pounder vs a thick body jujitsu ace? I am thinking Serra has more skills on the ground.

by TRavis on Apr 10, 2007 10:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hughes has a great record against BJJ guys. but I agree Serra does have a better chance with hughes than he had with GSP.Even though Serra beat GSP I still think Hughes will take it though.
