Koscheck sends Sanchez a holiday message

It didn't take Josh Koscheck's MySpace administrator long to fire back and send a friendly message over to Diego Sanchez' page.
Just hours after "Kos" handed "Nightmare" the first loss of his professional mixed martial arts career at UFC 69, he had someone post a comment wishing Sanchez a Happy Easter.
He even threw in some love with the "xoxo."
Perhaps it's the final barb between the two.
But I tend to think this feud just got much worse after that bizarre fight last night.
Put simply, it was for the most part a poor sparring session.
And that's exactly what Sanchez wanted it seems, telling Koscheck in his initial MySpace comment that he "has no hands."
Whatever.
For now, the two appear headed in different directions -- the UFC welterweight division just got turned upside-down.
Here's a post-fight remark from Koscheck in the Los Angeles Times on the situation:
"This division got definitely stirred up tonight. Now I'm one step closer to my goal of winning the belt. I proved tonight that I'm capable of fighting for a belt. That's why I'm in this."
However, newly-minted UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra could very well make his first title defense against Matt Hughes in the near future. (By the way, wasn't he just a little too happy last night?).
In the meantime, St. Pierre could rebound and possibly fight Koscheck for a number one contender spot.
And maybe we'll get to see Sanchez fight another American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) product -- and Koscheck training partner -- Jon Fitch in the near future.
Who knows ... anything is possible now in the Wild, Wild UFC Welterweight West.

I can only pray. I want to see hughes fight serra and gsp to fight koscheck so we can see gsp destroy hughes again and koscheck. And to give the obviously delusional serra a reality check.

Myspace? What are they 15 now? That’s ridiculous. It’s not like Koscheck put Sanchez into the hospital or anything. Now that’s a fight. But winning by decision isn’t, especially if you saw the match. Koscheck needs to get pounded. Actually they both do because they both suck.

KOS is the man! Love him or hate him…..Diego’s record is now 19-1 hahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaa! He should have had the warrior gods hand him a rabbits foot before the fight… I think Josh wanted to hand Diego a loss more than trying to beat him up…. I LOVE IT!!!!!

Diego and Koscheck… How do you land only 5 shots in 15 min. and come out with a decision win? Koscheck looked more like a track star than an MMA fighter. Every time Diego tried to push the fight Koscheck would run. This whole thing was a joke to Koscheck. He didn’t want to win, he didn’t even want to fight, he just wanted Diego to lose. This fight was the main reason I paid the $40.00. As far as i’m concerned they both own me $5.00.

Why does the Diego Sanchez myspace say he is 20-0? I thought he was 19-0 going into last night’s fight? Or did he actually include last night as a win either pre or post fight?
by wts on Apr 8, 2007 4:38 PM EDT reply actions
You win a fight with few shots by the other fighter not landing any…. I think that IF Diego shot in KOS would of man handled him on the ground anyways!!!! KOS!!!!!! YEAH!

I agree the Sanchez/Koscheck fight was boring. What was with Diego? He had to have known that he was losing going into the third round yet did nothing to even try to win. Why would he be afraid to take it to the ground? During the end of the first period he was able to get Koscheck’s back but the bell rang.
Also, I believe Diego was the only one not to do a post fight interview. If someone could please find one and post that link that would be awesome because I couldn’t find one.

Did Sanchez think he was hitting Kos? I think Kos should have stood still and not have wasted his energy as Sanchez’s shots were so pulled he would not have been hit. This does not sell the UFC concept.
UFC should have a no activity disqualification to insure engagement and not waste fan’s time and money (maybe 10 running minutes of shadowboxing would be the rule, or, Hearing high levels of snoring and booing in the crowd that would represent the frustration index of the match). I had to take a second look at popular betting odds to try to figure out a financial angle, Hmmm, would take arrangements to make it worthwhile.

I’m waiting to see how many of the Diego groupies will finally admit that he wasn’t ready for the bigtime yet… like I said how many weeks ago? How about ya, “thaspider”, you gonna own up to not having a realistic opinion of his abilities like I said before?

haha, your right man he looked like shit, i wrote somewhere else that both fighters deserved the outcome they got, something was wrong with diego man, he’s better than that, i’m real disappointed to say the least, but he’s still one of my favorite fighters and i’ll continue to support him, at the end of the first round when koscheck took him down he was able to reverse that pretty easily and took kos’ back, too bad the round was over, but for some reason greg jackson kept telling him to stand and trade which is not the style that got him to 19-0, i know i’ve been a little over the top with my support for diego, but the diego i’ve been talking about for weeks is not the guy that fought last night, i don’t know who that guy was…but i’ll admit koscheck fought the smarter fight last night and deserved the win, but i still hate the guy…

Hey we may like one of the players or despise, etc., the point is that there was more action at the weighin. There will be many fighters at this weight level that will go in for a quick finish and things will go on. Need some rules of required engagement for both to not hug gently to the end for lame decision…..bring in Pride, other new blood and get the UFC passion in the score card.

Hey there man, I hate Diego Sanchez but one think you cannot dismiss is that he is a maniac, and is a MMA Mastermind. I aggree that Kos only did what he had to win, and it was a very boring fight, but with that said “you do it”! They showed a multitude of respect for one another skills, and whether they hate each other or not, they were nervous!

Oh! and for those of you thinking that Kos was running, boo hoo! Kos sucks major ass, but the one thing he did was avoid being hit, and put a couple of strong solid punches out there. I think that Kos hit him with big hard bombs, and on the button with ok accuracy, and the only thing he showed was that Diego can take a punch. I hate Diego, but that man has a iron chin. Look back on the fight with Joe Riggs, Riggs is a monster, and throws huge, hard bombs that knock people out, yet he hit Diego solid as a rock, but did not knock him out.

the fight really reminded me of the last arlovski sylvia fight where arlovski couldn’t really do anything because sylvia was keeping his distance by using his long reach and superior size, but in this case koscheck kept his distance by holding that left arm out there and backing away(running) every time diego tried anything, it was a very very smart fight by koscheck, but everyone was pissy about it when sylvia won with his boring style, and this is the same thing, if you don’t like tim sylvia there is no way you can like josh “the most boring fighter in the ufc” koscheck…the dude above is 100 percent right about the yellow card system, we need it or else anytime we have a fight like this that means something its gonna suck…koscheck should have been warned in the first round and had points deducted in the 2nd and 3rd, he knows if diego hit him on his weak chin he would have been done for and after he took diego down in the first he knew he was beat on the ground too, so all he could do was punch and run, it was pathetic and dana white should be pissed he built this fight up the way he did only to have koscheck ruin it, i’ll say koscheck hits hard and surprisingly had some nice high kicks too, but why didn’t he try to finish the fight??its cause he’s scared to get hit just like diego said…please dana white make my year and give me koscheck vs. gsp so koscheck with get shut the hell up

not every fight is going to be packed with big action or knockouts. some fights are tactical, some explosive. anyone can beat anyone on any given night, just ask gsp. that’s what makes mma so interesting. kos got the job done. plain and simple. sure they both have big mouths, but give kos credit. could you hold of sanchez for three rounds?

By the way I never said that Kos did not run, I just said Boo Hoo. I hated the fight and think that Kos sucked ass, as I put it in a previous comment. The only thing I think good came out of it was that Diego lost. When it comes down to it Koscheck did what he knew was the only think that would work for him, and even though he won does not mean he is a great fighter, it only means that he can be a smart fighter.

Matt Hughes looked very happy because he figures he has a better chance of beating Serra than he does against GSP. Remember on the TUF comeback season Serra called Hughes a “dick”, he was also undecided about who he wished to win that fight, he personaly liked GSP but would rather fight with Hughes.
This kills me, Matt Serra is an Abu Dahbi Champion who just knocked out GSP (the Hottest Fighter in the game) to win the UFC championship, he has won his last four fights and still gets very little respect as a fighter.
What does a guy have to do?

I dunno which fight some of you guys were watching, but to me, Koscheck stuck to a pure counter punching strategy, and Sanchez just pussed out like an amateur. I dunno what De la Hoya did to him, but Deigo displayed chicken**** tactics like the one De La Hoya displayed against Felix Trinidad when he lost his title.
How many take down attempts did Diego attempt? Zero. This is MMA, a submission/ground and pound specialist is EXPECTED to attempt to shoot for a take down and win the fight on the ground. Diego displayed NONE of the intensity he had in any of his previous fights, and honestly Koscheck while also boring didn’t need to take any risks because Sanchez was only beating himself employing a tactic he knows he can’t win with.
Koscheck’s sportsmanship is pretty crappy, but Diego didn’t do himself any favors. The crowd was CLEARLY Booing his effort, because it simply wasn’t there.

Since everything is all $crewed up in this division I say they should have a mini tournament to see who is where…
Hughs vs Karo
Diego vs Fitch
GSP vs Diaz
Koscheck vs Burkman
Throw in 2 other non tournament bouts…
Winner of TUF 5 vs winner of Pulver/Penn.
Second place finisher in TUF 5 vs Loser of Pulver/Penn
You could also substatute Penn for Burkman to make it better and figure out maybe some other “Filler”.
Call it “Organized Chao’s” “The Gauntlet” or “The grinder”
What a ppv that would be…
Next ppv would be called “The test”
Winner takes on Serra!!!
Winner of TUF5 & P/P vs Sherk
Chuck Liddell vs Tim Silvia
A.Silva vs Babalu
Kurt Angle vs Tito Ortiz
Gomi vs Fisher

Definately not the end of Diego, (I am not retarded, just excited man) but it is the end of his undefeated streak and thats for sure. So stoked that he lost to a nobody in his own mind, and a B level fighter in most of the fans minds.
The guys is a good fighter but is not “greatness” as he gives himself credit for and 80% of the bloggers give him credit for. He will be around for a long time but no longer undefeated
hate the guy, and was sick of his “undefeated”, protected, BS record (19 – 0 with only 3 decent opponents was and is BS, IMO). and that part of the nightmare is over and in no way can ever happen again. Sorry, to P in your boys Cheerios but let me Gloat for a minute…..

watching the fight… i could tell immediately that it was going to be shitty. diego clearly was out of his element and it was quite obvious that kos was fighting to do nothing more than make sure that diego lost. personally… i do not favor either fighter and was watching in hopes to see a great battle… instead, i saw perhaps the worst fight of the year and definately the worst fight of the night. the botton line is this, koscheck is not a true fighter, and i do not see him doing anything big in the future. diego, on the other hand will most likely come back better than ever after the loss and i think it really helped him more than it hurt him

Would bar both Kos and Diego and not feature them on a ppv unless they add 3 tough wins. No training camp dropouts on ppv, they went off the screen. Who wants a paid venue and a repeat. I respect nervous, but not a washout fight. I can respect a hard fought record, an off night, a lucky shot, but no driving the race in neutral. No interviews, no big fall flat UFC marketing hype.

I dont think Diego was off his game. We saw him having trouble dealing with Alessios strength even. He couldnt take kos down, and couldn’t out strike him either, it was like watching Hughes have nothing on GSP, or Tito having no answer for Liddell, he was outclassed! No excuses. And much like Tito and LIddell 2, the second time around will be the same. Im not saying Diego is a chump, just that Kos has really improved. He’s a great wrestler, and is going to really make GSP work for that title.

diego couldn’t take kos down, but he took his back in a matter of seconds when kos took him down and didn’t seemed rattled be kos’s takedown at all. im not denying koschecks improvement, his athleticism, or his wrestling… but i agree with diego when he said he is not a fighter, and does not like to get hit.

Ashamed to vent so much on a negative Kos/Diego performance. Maybe UFC management will learn how to stop the pointless dancing and shadow boxing, use of non-combative reverse, etc. I don’t question talent/potential, they just did not use it. All the respondents also seem to have a big question about what really happened. Too bad there wasn’t a lucky punch early in the first round, so we could really and gut-wise want a rematch. Did we see the veneer of really poor professional wrestling translated to the UFC? They could have faked a much better match. Weigh in was a good start for this type of venue. Lets have this on special UFC fill ins on Spike, but not on ppv.

If history has told us anything is that anybody can have a very bad night, and just about anybody can get lucky. Betting pools serve the purpose of showing us who is favorite to win in any sport. Granted, this sport’s mainstream has created a lot of pseudo-self-proclaimed experts, and a lot of people just follow the herd. I believe, however, that betting pools give us a general idea of the average talent of a fighter as perceived by experts(real and pseudo), sports analyst, other fighters, and the public at large.
Diego was poised to win with a 3 to 1 ratio. That translates to a 75% chance of winning. People believed that Diego would win. Why? … Well he has beaten Koscheck twice before (yes, the TUF is not the first time they had met, contrary with what Koscheck was leading people to believe). The “Kos” was avenging not one, but two loses in a row. Diego had, moreover, dominated a lot people with big names in this division. People that where once poised as number 1 contenders in the division, whereas Koscheck had been beaten long-ago-forgotten-has-beens. Although Koscheck made improvements, Diego had improved as fighter as well. People just expected Diego to keep winning.
WE JUST CAN’T TELL WHO’S GOING TO WIN ANYMORE … RIGHT?
WRONG.
The same night that Diego Sanchez lost, people were stunned by perhaps the biggest upset in MMA history. Matt Serra defeated GSP. Let me rephrase that: MATT SERRA DESTROYED GSP [OR ROLLED OVER HIM, STUMPED HIM, KICKED HIS ASS]. Do I dare say that I can predict, or anybody else for that matter, Serra defeating GSP twice in a row. I don’t think so. Then again, he might prove me wrong. In the end, we just don’t have enough information about how they match.
Diego did lose the fight. I wouldn’t call that a win for Koscheck but Diego did lose. Could we predict that Koscheck would beat Diego again? I wouldn’t think so. The score is 2 to 1 this far. Chuck Liddel lost once to Jeremy Horn, once to Randy Couture, once to “Rampage” Quinton Jackson. He has avenged his loses. I guess, it’s a little premature to say who is the better fighter. We need more data to actually run the numbers. With a 2 to 1 score between Diego and Koscheck, and the fact that Koscheck had everything to prove, I’ll give Diego the benefit of the doubt and say he had a bad night. Next time they meet, I will go with the stats and put my money on Diego. I think Koscheck has shown all that he could ever be. I think Diego has more still to show.

A lot the fighter records that you see today seem to be in very heavy dispute. If you check the official records (i.e., Sherdog) as compared with UFC posted record, there seems to be a discrepancies. Not only as to number of fights, but wins, loses and draws. Accordingly, a lot of this fights are not very well documented. If you recall, it was only until recently that MMA was again legally and officially sanctioned in the USA. A lot of this older fights went, pretty much, undocumented.
Go to sherdog.com and look up Diego’s record. You’ll only count 18 bouts with 17-1-0 record, whereas UFC [should] says his record is 19-1-0. The problem is that the UFC only documents his UFC fights, and show no record of fights previous to the UFC. I can recollect the actual event, but I am sure they have fought before. I am absolutely sure that this was actually mentioned when Diego and Koscheck fought in TUF 1.
Unless, there is conspiracy theory of trying to keep Koscheck down, I’m sticking with was mentioned in previously aired media venues.

Well, I would say loosing via guillotine or rear naked choke is more of one of those things anyone can get caught in. My 15 year old cousin caught my 25 year old “goon” friend in a rear naked choke, it happens. I stick by my story, Diego with no answer for Kos anytime they fight.

I think my suspicions about pseudo-experts are becoming ever more fortified. Anecdotal accounts are not records nor evidence. So grandmas with a cane tripping a 300 lb wrestler do count as a take down.
I am counting on statistics and numbers, and some “Maine-iacs” are counting on tattle-tales. Perhaps, they’re better suited for WWE. OR IS THAT FAN BASE MOVING TO WHAT IT ONCE WAS A SPORT FOR PEOPLE WITH TRUE LOVE FOR FIGHTING?
